After Atani received her reward from the stage manager, she took off her Joyan style theatre wig, walked over to a vanity mirror, and started to wipe away her layers upon layers of makeup. As she did, Yua walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You're not going to the after party to celebrate?" she asked warmly. "You and Tomura truly stole the show."

"Oh... I would, but parties aren't really my thing," she explained as she continued to wipe off the makeup. Gods, this was taking forever to come off. Her cheeks were even turning a bit red from the agitation.

"Hmm, I see. Do you mind if I ask you something now then, before you go?"

Atani glanced over to Yua in the mirror as she started to rub off the final layers of her makeup. She supposed it wouldn't hurt to hear what the theatre manager had to say.

Evidently, there were a number of reasons Atani was hired as a performer that night. It appeared that the Hinoki Theatre, on occasional nights, received threats from a certain yokai-- or at least, a man in a mask who used the name of a yokai. He was known as Ayakashi, and he had attempted to abduct some of Yua's actresses after their performances. This play Atani had been part of-- starring two strong mages, one of which was a male lead-- was not one that would have drawn Ayakashi's attention thankfully, but Yua couldn't change the types of shows she put on forever.

In addition to trying to abduct her actresses, Ayakashi has been sending her notes as of lately as well. His most recent one threatened an upcoming performance that was scheduled for the next day. In it, he proclaimed that none of her actresses would be safe that night.

"So you need my help," Atani concluded. Yua nodded her head and mentioned how she could tell that from her performance tonight, she was a far more experienced and capable mage than she let on. Atani gave the woman a slight smile as she walked over to the dressing room. Her position as a mage right now was... complicated. Her powers were still in flux, but Yua was right about one thing.

"I've been doing this for a while now," she said with a shrug before stepping into the changing room to get out of this heavy kimono and put back on her regular set of clothes. From behind the door, she told Yua that she would help her out with Ayakashi. She didn't even mention payment as of yet; they would figure all that out once they both knew Ayakashi was not a threat anymore and the actresses were safe.

The next night, Atani went to Hinoki Theatre once more to see if she could try to find and stop Ayakashi. He unfortunately didn't show before the start of the performance, so while the play was going on, Atani took it upon herself to patrol various areas of the theatre, both inside around the stage and outside around the premises. At one point, she heard a shout come from the stage, and she came rushing in to see Ayakashi holding two actresses in his arms. He said he would kill them if anyone tried to stop him from stealing them away, which Atani didn't believe for a second.

She let him walk off stage with the girls, and then took that moment to call his bluff. She rushed at him, and he let go of the girls in a panic. They engaged in combat at a safe distance from the actresses. The man was much stronger than she was, but she was much more nimble and far more experienced. She was able to dodge the majority of his attacks and managed to land a decisive blow to the head, causing him to become disoriented. By the time the guards showed up to arrest him, there was little he could do but surrender. With the actresses now safe, Atani had successfully completed her job for Yua.
