Xerxes wanted to fully explore the Northern part of Fiore before he decided to continue his trip abroad. To that end, he decided to make the trip to Worth Woodsea to explore that region. Worth Woodsea was an area filled to the brim with creatures, both intelligent and not. The mere mention of Worth Woodsea would typically strike great concern in the hearts of adventurers who dared to head that way. For Xerxes, however, he was filled with intrigue. Ever since he was old enough to realize the harsh realities of being a non-mage born in a family of mages in a world dominated mostly by mages, he strived for a power that surpassed them. A natural power that was not born from magical abilities. Something that was of his own power even without the help of magical items. He had heard rumors of ways to obtain power like that in Worth Woodsea and strove the seek it out and obtain that for himself. As he begins to leave Sleeping Calamity’s Guild house, he noticed a flyer on the job request board for the Worth Woodsea area. “Seems that fate is on my side today.” He mentions as he retrieves the flyer and begins his trip to the forest. A few hours pass and Xerxes finds himself in the thick of the forest, eagerly looking for the quest giver. The quest was from a member of the local Neko tribe by the name of Zimnur. Zimnur, unfortunately, gave very vague details as to what the quest would entail. The only real direction they gave was to head to the tribe’s location and request for Zimnur specifically. Even though the vagueness of the quest would generally upset Xerxes, he was excited to see this tribe. These Nekos could be the key to Xerxes achieving what he desired.

A few hours pass and Xerxes finally makes his way to the surprisingly large Neko settlement. The settlement, for all intents and purposes, greatly resembled a human settlement. Neko walked around in harmony, shipping, playing, enjoying the time that they have. A smile forms across Xerxes’ face as their harmonious display reminds him fondly of his homeland. As soon as Xerxes fully stepped into the settlement, all eyes darted towards him. Low growls filled the area as the young are ushered away. Xerxes continues his stride coolly and calmly, making sure to note where each Neko was. He did not come for violence and understood their concern. He hoped that this would end peacefully for all involved. A Neko, both older and larger than the others, walked towards him with sword drawn. His piercing yellow eyes glared directly at Xerxes. It was obvious that if there was any sign of aggression, this Neko would be the one to strike first. “You’ve no business entering our settlement without reason. We have warriors trained on your position should you try anything stupid. Now, state your business here Desiertian.” Xerxes could only chuckle at the Neko’s words, impressed that he determined his nationality immediately. He wondered briefly if he had been tracked since the very moment he entered Worth Woodsea. If so, if this was just a small example of the power he was looking, it was intoxicating. “I mean you no harm. My name is Sharyar Xerxes, an emissary of the Sleeping Calamity guild. We received a job request from someone here named Zinmur.

Murmurs rumble through the crowd as they slowly part to reveal a timid looking Neko staring directly at Xerxes. “So, you are the one who accepted my request?” Zimnur says as he moves towards Xerxes. “Why would you bring an interloper to your home?” the elder Neko demands. “When I went for supplies, I got harassed by the locals. In order to not bring any undue concern to the settlement, I opted to hire someone to accompany me.” The elder grumbles but relents, his grip on his sword easing up. He moves towards Zimnur and glares at him before whispering. “If anything happens due to this man, this is on your head.” The elder departs as the others attempt to return to a sense of normalcy.

Come with me. Quickly.” Zimnur says to Xerxes as the two of them exit the settlement. They walk in silence for some time until they are out of both earshot and eyeshot of the tribe. “Useless.” Zimnur mutters as Xerxes raises an eyebrow and clears his throat. “I wasn’t referring to you. I was referring to that jackass elder. The tribe is directionless. He attempts to command respect through fear but is that really respect or just simple self-preservation. When I am the leader, they will have the respect they deserve. The respect that will foster our tribe and bring prosperity to all.” “Then why are you not tribe leader?” “Because I’m not a musclebound meathead.” He says dryly. The two of them talk at length regarding Zimnur’s goals and how they closely parallel Xerxes’ own goal before getting to the task at hand. There were some wolves to the west of the settlement that threatened the sanctity of the tribe. While strong, fighting the wolves would ensure death for most of the tribe. To mitigate that, he sought it best to have someone else do it for him while he took the credit. Potentially considered underhanded but smart. The only caveat? He required the head of the Alpha wolf to prove to the tribe that he killed it.

As the duo reach the area, Zimnur suddenly stops and points towards a large cave opening. “The wolves are in there. I’ll wait here until you are done.” Chuckling, Xerxes draws his spear and begins his trek inside. The cave reeked of blood and decay; the soft sounds of chomping could be heard towards the back. As he progressed deeper in the cave, Xerxes could faintly make out the outline of seven figures on the cave floor in front of him. One laid motionless while five others had surrounded it. In the very back of the cave sat a larger creature moving slightly. He assumed that the motionless figure was lunch and the other five were eating the spoils of their kill. The larger figure in the back must have been the Alpha, the leader of the pack. Getting ready for the fight he knew he would be facing; Xerxes slams the blunt end of his spear on the ground, creating a loud clanging noise. All sounds stop as twelve piercing red eyes all direct their gaze towards him. Low, guttural growls filled the area as the eyes begin to lurch closer. The growls turn into barks as the pack, minus the Alpha Wolf, immediately charge towards Xerxes, eager to carve into their newest potential meal. One wolf leaps up and lunges towards Xerxes who skillfully dodges it before delivering a powerful strike to the wolf, killing it instantly. One by one, each of the wolves fall into only Xerxes and the Alpha remain. The Alpha steps forward, angered by the deaths of its comrades, and lets out a howl that reverberates throughout the area. Xerxes could only watch in admiration of its power before charging forward.

A few minutes pass and Xerxes exits the cave, slight scratches on his face and arms. In his right hand was the bloodied and severed head of the Alpha wolf. “Damn…” Zimnur says incredulously as the man hands him the wolf’s head. “This should be sufficient for whatever plans you have, right?” Xerxes says as Zimnur begins to pat some of the wolf’s blood on his clothing. “Yeah, this will work nicely. They’ll likely start looking for me by now as I should have been back by this point. When they discover this massacre, they’ll believe that I did this. Just a small step to my eventual leadership role. Here.” he says as he tosses a bag of jewels towards Xerxes. Xerxes catches the pouch and places it away as the Neko begins to leave. “You should get out of here for the time being. If you can, stay in the area. I’m pretty sure I’ll need your help again.
