It was strange to be back in Myras of all places. Atani had done quite a bit of traveling since she had been back from Athalran, but frankly Myras was one of the last places anyone should have expected her to turn up at. She hadn't even went back to Astera, back to Infinity Wolves, back to Lee. Though she knew it was the right thing to do, she just couldn't pull herself to do it.

Not yet.

She just had to figure out the right way to come out and say it, say that she didn't want to be in Infinity Wolves anymore... but how? Atani had been there since the beginning. She along with Raymus and Konyo had founded a guild to bring peace and unity, but all of that was crumbling before her eyes. First there was the war in Bosco. Then, she was torn from her home.

She was gone in Athalran for nearly two years, but it felt far longer than that. Some days were fine, but others dragged on for an eternity. There were more details from her past that had come to light in that time, many of which she did not feel ready to share with others, not even with Lee. She finally discovered what sort of darkness lied within her all that time. That, at least, she did somewhat confide in LeeAnn with. In fact, it was the original source of her apprehension for joining Infinity Wolves as an ace, but oddly enough, it was not the main reason she wanted to leave now. Really, it stemmed from multiple factors, but truly the most plain and simple one was that she just didn't want to feel tied down anymore. Her whole life had been spent being restricted from doing so many things.

For once, she just wanted to feel free. The closest she could ever come to that was when she was in Athalran. But as much as she wished she could spend her days in the magical forest she called home, she had a life outside of that place. It would be a waste to sit there-- even if she was at peace-- when there were so many other parts of Earthland she had yet to explore and uncover the secrets of. That was what she longed to do, and Infinity Wolves restricted her from doing such. Under the banner of a light guild aligned with the Fiorian kingdom, there were certain actions she was not allowed to do... legally speaking. But aside from that, there were things that were implicitly restricted, not only due to being a member of a light guild, but due to being her guildmaster's right hand mage.

Needless to say, she would be leaving a lot behind once she left Infinity Wolves. It felt like such a selfish thing to do, but Atani knew it was the best choice for everyone. Not just for her own well being, but for the guild's as well. They deserved someone who would be there for them. Always. They didn't deserve someone who would spontaneously leave to another country without a word and then refuse to return home out of guilt. They didn't deserve someone who maybe won't be there for the sort of attacks Sieghart faced. It was best for her to be on her own.

And there she was, on her own in Myras. She didn't even like the cold mountains, but it felt suiting for her at the moment. She needed a place where she could disappear into the crowd and take on some work to earn jewels.

Another downside about spending time in Athalran: it didn't pay her usual salary. The Wood Elves there, they considered themselves to be separate from Fiore in nearly every sense of the word. Though jewels of course did exist there, they had significantly less value than they did in Fiore. Elves didn't quite see the meaning in cutting down trees or other sorts of plants to fabricate paper money when there were countless other means of exchanging goods. Of course Atani was biased towards that mindset as well, but she couldn't say she didn't understand human preference for bills. It did indeed simplify things, and it felt good to thumb through a stack of jewels after taking a job knowing exactly what sort of things she could purchase. Back at home, it could be a gamble. Exchanges often involved some form of haggling or negotiation in order to find the right price.

n Fiore though? Really you only had to do so if you were trying to save some jewels or you felt that you were being ripped off. Atani rarely encountered such a problem in her travels, as she would simply pass on things she deemed too expensive-- she was more than happy to settle for something cheaper so long as it got the job done. Case and point, the same bow she had been using for years. It was old and lacked the power of weapons other mages of her caliber possessed, but at the end of the day, it sufficed. It hadn't broken yet, and she intended on using it until it's lived out its days.

Speaking of which, Atani figured she would probably be getting some more use of it once she started her job for the day. Though she hated doing it, Myras' elite paid all too well.

Though truth be told, she could have ended up with a far worse client than the one she was to be paired with that day. She was actually to escort a rather young member of Myras' upper class. She was just old enough for her parents to be comfortable having her see the lower parts of Myras for herself, but not of course without adult supervision. Specifically, they wanted someone to guard the daughter at all costs. Though they knew she would not be as much of a target for hate as the adults were, there were plenty of other reasons why someone who was young, fair, and wealthy would be targeted... reasons that most likely went over the daughter's head at that young of an age. Atani of course took it upon herself to make sure that the kid didn't come into harm's way. Frankly, she didn't trust many others around here to do so adequately.

Upon arriving at the wealthy family's manor in the Silver District, Atani found the family to actually be quite pleasant. They weren't like the first noble she had to escort who went to the lower levels of Myras as a form of 'entertainment.' In fact, they told the elf that they rarely visited the place themselves, but their daughter had been asking time and time again to see it-- evidently one of her friends from school had told her about one of the trips their own parents had made to the Lower District. It didn't matter that the stories told of poverty and crime; they told tales of wonder that sparked the interest of the young girl who had never been outside the Silver City's gates. Nobody could blame her for wanting to see the town for herself. She just had to do so in a safe manner, hence Atani.

"Woah, you're an elf!" Those were the first words the girl spoke to Atani. She simply smiled and nodded. "I am."

"Eve, don't be rude!" her mother said, but Atani insisted. "It's fine. I don't imagine you see many of us up in the mountains, huh."

Even dwarves were not commonly seen in the Myras mountain range, so Eve's surprise was completely expected, but it was sweet her mother tried to correct the behavior anyway-- that was not something Atani saw among most clients she had, and especially not among her clients in the Silver District and other such places of high class.

Eve's parents briefly went over some things with Atani-- which places to definitively avoid, who not to let her interact with, when she should be home by, all that stuff. Most of it was fairly common sense in her opinion, but parents could never be too careful.

Atani assured the parents that their daughter was in safe hands and promptly began to escort Eve towards the borders. She began to pepper the elf with question upon question. Some of course regarded her heritage as a Wood Elf. Others were about the Lower District. And then there more about if she visited any other places. It was impossible to name them all, for every time she mentioned a new location, more questions piled up. While Atani appreciated a curious mind, this... was a bit much. Gods, was she that annoying as a kid too?

Thankfully, the questions came to a halt as they entered the Lower District. Instead, all Eve's curiosity was replaced with endless wonder. Atani allowed her to fulfill some of her wishes, but only those that she deemed safe. In her many years of being a mage, she'd become quite adept at picking out the frauds in these sorts of places.

There was a jeweler in particular who caught Eve's eye the most. There was a sapphire necklace on display-- or at least what seemed to be a sapphire. There were those who were genuine in their sales, and then there were those who were simply looking to make a quick buck. With the ever so increasing usage of magic these days, you could create fake gems that could even fool professionals at first glance, but in the end it didn't really matter if the necklace was real or not. Eve just wanted a souvenir of the trip. She had brought some pocket money with her and paid for the necklace herself, not even bothering to see if it was authentic or not. She excitedly held it up to the sunlight to see it twinkle and then asked if Atani could put it on. The elf did as she was asked.

"Are you about ready to head back?" Atani asked, hoping that Eve would say yes now that she had her souvenir. But of course, she was not. There were still several streets they hadn't gone down. Really they couldn't visit every single spot in one trip, but the young girl was trying her hardest to cram as much as she could into what little time they had left. Atani looked to the sky to judge how much time they had left and then concluded that it couldn't hurt to wander around some more, though she would have to keep a note not to let herself or Eve get distracted. It was approaching summertime, and that meant the late night hours sneaked up on you fast. One moment it would be light out, and the next you were starting at a sunset. Or well, you would be if you were up in the Silver District. Here in the lower parts of Myras, there wasn't a good view of the sky.

Eventually, it did come time where their trip had to come to an end. Eve wasn't too happy about it as there were more places she wished to explore, but if Atani wanted to keep her promise to the parents, she would have to get the girl home before sundown. Besides, from what she knew of the Lower District, she didn't feel as if it was safe for her to be there either. Though she could protect her from physical harm, she was certain there would be things that Eve should rather not see at this age.

Sapphire necklace dangling around her neck, the gemstone bouncing with each step, Eve returned with Atani to her manor in the Silver District where her parents were waiting. They were relieved to see that not even a thread of her clothes were torn and were glad to see that their daughter had a good time. They gave Atani her reward as promised and the elf bid the family farewell.
