Jin slunk into the ghostly town. An Erie air permeated about, with the forest of monsters not far enough away from civilization. Jin slid his tunic up higher over his shoulders and situated the satchel of goods and wares. He stretched wide with a yawn and drug his boots to the nearest tavern. A group of crooked faces peered back at him.

"Gimme the goods," He sunk into a chair at the bar. The barkeep cocked a brow and looked at the members-only sign that hung above the doorway, that somehow the mage had missed.

"You should probably leave," The barkeep titled his head with a bit of sass. Another man slid next to Jin. "Listen up punk. Don't know who you are. But you stepped into the wrong place pal."

"Awe come on...can't we just all enjoy a nice drink?" Jin smiled. The man cocked back his fist when the doors slammed open. A barrel-chested man kicked in the doorway with a gun in each hand.

"I'm here to take back what's ours!" The man howled and his buddies charged in behind him. The bar erupted in conflict. Jin sighed and ducked a flying body that sailed over the counter. The body smashed into the bottles of alcohol. Jin held his empty cup beneath the free-flowing ale, and dropped some coins on the table.

The battle continued and Jin slide down with his back against the counter. When he saw any serious injuries he would cast as sneaky a healing spell as he could. "It's always something isn't it."

Odin †

The Crimson Quarter of Hosenka was always a lively place, it reminded Odin much of Oak City. While Oak had once just been a hive of scum and villainy, under his rule it had become a much more prosperous city, and part of that was the numerous bars and pubs that had sprouted around the city, not that any of them were on par with the Swineherd. That was due in part to Odin's own knowledge of how to run a good establishment, he'd been doing it for years now, but a lot of it came from the Lich's exploration of other cities and venues. He found the best food, the best wine, hell even the nicest candles, from all over Fiore so as to make his pub the best in the country.

Sometimes, however, that meant visiting pubs that he knew wouldn't give him anything useful, just in case he found a diamond in the rough. Such was the case with today's excursion, as Odin entered a awful looking pub, albeit one with a great deal of life about it as a tavern brawl was currently in full swing. Everyone seemed to be engaged in the fight, barely anyone noticed the marble-white of Odin's skull as he glided through the commotion towards the bar itself, recognising someone sitting there and spotting the small magic circles that appeared every so often, just before someone got knocked out. Sitting down next to Jin, and grabbing a bottle of wine that had survived the brawling so far, Odin couldn't help but muse aloud at what he saw, "Isn't it arguably more evil to heal someone in a losing fight than to just let them fall unconscious?"

A new figure entered the bar. Jin glanced over his shoulder, but at first, didn't see the skull that was bobbing beneath the dark cloak. The being sat on the bar next to Jin, just as the mage had healed a gunshot wound that pierced a patron's lung.

A twinge went through the paladin's spine as a familiar voice spoke. He smiled at the light musing of the skeleton. Another man crashed into the bar and toppled over it. "Yeah, you could make that argument," The corner of Jin's lip inched upward to a lopsided smirk, that held back a chuckle. "I'm just trying to keep people from knocking on death's door."

He took another swig of his drink. It had been a little while since he saw the man. Not since the war over countries and that fiery onslaught they faced from Brunhilde. It was funny to think of how much more fragile Jin was back then.

"What brings you here? You move around pretty boldly for a skeleton. Not that I'm saying I mind. Just that it must be inconvenient,"
Jin replied jovially looking up from the floor as bullets peppered the counter.

"Who's to say death is all that bad? It's worked out for me pretty well."

Odin was glad to see Jin, as he had wanted to see the mana again. He was a light mage, member of Blue Pegasus, but something about him gave off a different vibe to the standard light mages Odin encountered. He healed people sure, but there was a darker nature to him. He had beliefs that didn't necessarily align with those of his guild, and he was strong. That much was definitely true. perhaps there could be a place for him in Eternal Nightmare, maybe he had that same interest. To join a guild with someone that had already been an ally once before, and be free to follow his own path. His current guild master hadn't supported Hildegard: more dark mages had flocked to the half-elf's side than any other heir, despite how just she was. The world hadn't been ready for that. Dark mages putting a good guy in charge. Because they weren't evil people, just people who sought for change, who wished for the current regime to end. A regime that had made the same people profit again and again at the expense of the less fortunate. Odin wanted to change that, and Hildegard was the first step.

"Just here on business, but not the kind that would force you to call the knights on me, don't worry." Odin took another drink from his bottle as he continued, "Jin, I'm gonna let you in on a fun secret. There are about five people in this world who could probably take me down and would actually make a move to. Three of them are too busy managing their own guilds and the other two are trying to manage an entire country. That means none of them are going to come for me, which means I get to do what I want." Odin paused for a moment before asking his own questions.

"What about you? This place seems a lot shadier than where your standard Blue Pegasus mage would hang out."

Jin's lips pressed to the side with a nod. Odin was right. Being dead looked like it did pay off for him. "Fair point. Although The jury may be out on if you really count as dead. After all. I can't heal what's really dead. And you do seem to be getting around rather lively," he remarked with a bit of humor, thinking back on the time his magic had actually worked on the lich. The being stood as proud and terrifying as ever. Jin recalled the sheer power Odin possessed. His presence here was almost concerning. The last time these two were together, they helped overthrow a nation, after all.

It was odd to think that Jin had fought alongside Odin. An infamous Dark Guild master, more than he traveled with the members of his own guild. The two had fought in the thick of it together. Something Jin supposed guildmates would do, but Jin's values were different than those he aligned with.

Jin sighed, "Well that's good. Cause I'm not always on their good side either." For all the good Jin tried to do, it seemed he always ended up being chased or accidentally stepping into mayhem.

The Lich's words perked up the paladin's ears. What secret could the lich possibly want to share with him? 'Just 5?' Jin thought to himself. What kind of monstrous power puts someone on that level, and who were those five?

"Only five? And two are running a country. It's starting to sound like you are conjuring a dangerous plan," Jin cocked his brow both curious and nervous about what Odin would say next.

Jin looked around at the bar, and the sly way Odin shifted the conversation intently toward some greater reveal. "Always felt more at home in places like this. Plus I'm usually chased out of other places. Like I said. I have a habit of falling into problems that aren't mine," he shrugged, thinking about being chased by both police and thugs. He didn't really care who was chasing him, as long as his actions felt right to him.

"Truth is, I haven't met too many of the mages in Blue Pegasus. I tend to...be more of a wanderer." He pulled himself back up to the counter and straightened out a wobbly bar stool. "But this isn't the type of place I'd expect to see a disaster level threat either," his words landed like he didn't care that there was a bounty on Odin's head. He didn't care much about bounty hunting or bounties at all really. But he knew someone like Odin wouldn't come to a lowly pub without a reason.

Jin seemed very intent on finding out what brought Odin to the dingy pub on nowhere street in Hosenka, and it was going to be such an anti-climax when he discovered that Odin was just here to try their wine list for his own pub. Maybe they had some rare and obscure wine that could work very well in the Swineherd. He doubted it, but curiosity begged him to try, and so here he was.

Odin also enjoyed how much Jin seemed less than enthused about both the rune knights, and even his own guild. He was a wanderer, a strong one, and someone who had his own goals that he wished to see come to fruition. In other words, if he was interested, the perfect candidate for Eternal Nightmare.

"By this point you must've realised. I'm always conjuring up some kind of plan." One red orb flickered briefly, the closest Odin could create for a wink, as he looked around at the chaos of the bar. It was starting to die down a bit: some were unconscious, others had left and there were perhaps three men left who were badly beaten but going at it. It was an interesting spectacle to be sure. "A plan for myself, for you, for this country. Hell, what I have planned will change the world." Odin took another drink from his wine as two of the three men collapsed in a heap, exhausted and beaten. Only one remained, only one could stand above the rest.

"You don't seem to be the idle kinda person...being...," Jin shrugged and reached over to refill his drink from the busted barrel of ale, unsure about what label of existence to put on the undead. The ale overflowed his cup as the lich conjured an orb of light. Jin had no idea what to expect, from someone capable of such destruction but also patience. The bar began to die down, and Jin was too distracted now to spend more mana on healing injuries. No one was near death so the mage let them be.

Only a few men stumbled at each other, before collapsing from fatigue. Jin finally swallowed down the ale and whipped his mouth on his sleeve. "Well...we worked together in the past," Jin replied, curious as to the depth of the Lich's plan that could change the world. He knew they shared similar world views as they supported the same governmental structure for a nation. Memories of chaos during the war, quaked across his mind. The bloodshed and horror shivered along his back. Whatever the Lich's plans were, he wasn't sure if he was ready for such violence again, but he had some kind of healthy trust for the being that fought alongside him.

"What are you thinking and how do I play a role in it?"

Jin was a smart mage, sharper than many his age and even many older. He had lived through, even partook in, a war for the ruler of a country. Albeit not Fiore, but he had experienced the world. He also knew the kind of being that Odin was, what the Lich was capable of and what Jin would be getting himself into if he were to side with him. However, the fact that he was still interested was ideal for Odin. Jin expected the death and misery that the Wizard Lord was known for to be present in all of his guildmates. Eternal Nightmare wasn't like that at all: the member's sought their own freedom and their own goals. And, just like in Bosco, they would accomplish peace and change the monarchy for the good of the country.

"Light guilds view Eternal Nightmare as a group full of degenerate ne'er-do-wells managed by a tyrannical despot. That archaic view is starting to change, in no small part due to what we accomplished in Bosco, as well as my guild members going out and meeting the people." Odin finished his wine, as pleasure was concluded. Now it was time for business, "A prominent member of Blue Pegasus, and someone else who aided Hildegard, joining forces with me won't look like another light mage falling from grace. It will show that we seek peace, and even you are beginning to see that. What we did for Bosco, I want for Fiore. And I want you to help me achieve that."

Jin bobbed his head left and right, having heard as much about the guild. However, his own opinion of Odin was different than the rumors. He had seen the Lich operate. And at a time when Jin was weak and more of a hindrance than a help to someone of Odin's strength, the Lich still didn't mind him being around. And now the light mage was strong enough to hold his own, and deliver more than a meager amount of healing magic. Jin took a deep breath and put the flagon of ale to his lips, pretending to drink, but he wanted to keep his wits about him.

"Eternal Nightmare members are going out and meeting people?" He asked veering away from the real questions but in the same vein. Odin was right. They had unified once already and it worked out well. He tried to put a finger on what it was that the Lich was doing but the light mage wasn't one for much subtlety.

"So..." he thought for a moment as to what they did in Bosco and how that related to Fiore. "So, you want to get rid of the ruling family and the nobles?" He asked outright. Fiore was in an odd shape now. A new King that had the ear of the people. But there had already been whispers that he was being advised to pay more attention to nobility. As far as Jin had seen, not much had changed.

"The real question is. What is the Goal of Eternal Nightmare? Assuming I joined. What kind of responsibilities comes with that," The light mage asked with his independent and wandering nature being apparent from his current situation in the pub. Although he already knew what answer he leaned toward. Blue Pegasus had strong members and they were nice. But Jin always felt he walked to close a line to law-breaking. A feeling of distance that felt clear after Bosco.

"Of course, you think we just hide in our spooky tower and never actually do anything? We've all got friends."

Odin's mind wandered to all the people in the various other guilds that he counted among his friends: Kazimir in some ways, Kenzo from Blue Pegasus, Raymus and even Tempris wasn't entirely an enemy. As far as Odin was concerned, someone who didn't want to kill him straight away was a potential friend. After all, the Lich was known for his silver tongue. Someone that gave him the chance to talk was someone who could be brought to see his point of view. The more friends Eternal Nightmare had, the easier the next stage would be.

A slight chuckle from the Lich at the simplification of his goal. Jin wasn't wrong, but it wasn't the full story, "We don't need to kill anyone, nor do we aim for it. We want the ruler of this land to be someone who knows the pains of growing up with hardship, not someone who has been pampered their entire life. The current king is just, but how just can he be if he doesn't truly know the struggles among his people?" Odin had to admit that Reign had amassed a following during his time as king, garnering favour from both the people and the nobles. But being a nice person didn't mean he was best suited for the job. Odin wanted his ruler to be the most competent person it could be.

"There is no responsibility attached. If you believe there is something wrong with this country, I want you to help me fix it. In return, I will use all of my resources to help you attain your goals. This isn't some selfish game where I'm trying to grab power. I want the land where I live to be governed by the best person possible, and I want everyone in my guild to be free."

Jin sat back in his chair and laughed. "You got me there," Never in a million years would he think that he would be sitting at a bar speaking with a lich so casually. Let alone one that was a disaster-level threat. "I just didn't figure...well I guess I didn't know what all you guys do. Which I guess is the purpose of such a free-minded guild." It put his mind at ease in some ways to hear the lich talk about friends and speak candidly. It showed that the guild really wasn't anything like the people had made it out to be.

A relieved sigh came from the light mage as Odin said there didn't need to be killing. Jin eyed his spear that was leaning against the table. The bloodshed that had happened because of it was something he wanted to put behind him. The lich had Jin's full attention as the man spoke about the kind. In a lot of ways, he was right, and they were points that Jin hadn't really thought of. He knew that he fought in a war between countries and nobles before and saw the stain it had between nobles and the common man. Commoners always losing their life while kings and nobles sit at home.

"You're right. They don't understand what we go through out here," Jin's whimsy ceased for a moment. "Sounds like you're fighting for a better life for the people. One that'll last. And I don't have much love for nobility. First chance I got, I left and fought for a different country," Jin laughed to himself softly. The light mage cocked a brow of intrigue as the Lich spoke said there was no responsibility. Other than fixing the problems of the country. He sounded more like a light guild. But unfortunately, that status was only awarded to what the nobles wanted.

"No responsibilities. Fix the country, and you'll help me with my goals too," He liked the sound of that. Live free and do what he had to do. Jin was no stranger to playing fast and loose with the rules. "Well, Odin. My goal is simple," The wind mage stood up from his stool.

"My magic is passed down from generation to generation. But when it awakens in the next generation it takes the life of the previous mage. Healing magic that is powered sacrifice. One life lost so that many can live." He had not told anyone that before, but if he was getting help from the Lich then he was going to speak about it. "I'm just trying to break the curse."

"If your goal is freedom. being unbound and giving the land a ruler that really knows what the people are feeling...Then the next time you run through a wall of divine fire, I'll be there to heal you," Jin extended his hand to the Lich, agreeing to be a part of the dark guild for a bright future.

Odin listened intently to everything Jin said, even chuckling lightly at his remark about fighting for Bosco at the first chance, but it was the man's goal that Odin was really interested in, and the healer did not disappoint. A unique magic, one made stronger by the death of its former user. It was a powerful thing, Odin had read of similar magics in the past. Becoming stronger with each generation by consuming the wielder, but he hadn't ever met anyone with that kind of magic. Jin truly was one of a kind.

Odin took the man's hand, glad that he was accepting the initiation extended towards him, "We are going to do some great things together, Jin. And as long as you don't have any children already, I vow to you that we will break that curse. The next generation will gain their magic, and you will be there to watch them use it." With all said and done, Odin had to depart. The previous brawl had summoned some Rune Knights that would likely be there any moment. He bade Jin farewell, and offered him to swing by the guild hall whenever he found the time.

Another powerful mage joining the ranks.

Jin nodded to the Lich at the offer and acceptance. It was more calming than he expected to hear someone so clearly state they wanted to help the man get rid of his curse. A goal for a goal and many of their views seemed to align together already. Jin laughed a little, "No children yet. Haven't been ready to die," He made light of his situation. IT would appear that the mage was now a member of Eternal Nightmare. A big change for his life, and yet at the same time much the same.

The Lich departed and Jin let out a sigh as he finished his ale. The rune knights eventually burst into the doorway. "Of course. Jin. How did we know you may be behind this ruckus," the said and pulled weapons on the mage. Some of the thugs pointed their fingers at the paladin, so they could avoid the blame themselves.

"What. Oh come on," Jin said as the knights closed in and the wind mage jumped out of a window and tore down the street to get away from them.
