The bright winter sun was hell on earth. Amir spent the night being romanced and was not ready to greet the day. Still he got dressed in his regular attire and prepared to head out. As Amir was packing up he checked over his documents in jewel count. Doing quick arithmetic he concluded that he overspent on his attire. At the time he was too busy trying to buy it to notice the price was too high. Since he could not return it, he thought it best to get a new job.

The bulletin board was looking pretty good. Amir picked out a request randomly and gave it a gander. It was a simple job to watch over a smithy shop. It was something Amir believed he could do in his sleep. The deterrent of Eternal Nightmare made the town a surprisingly safe place on the surface. The real crime was in the underworld and Amir would check to make sure the store was not a front. He would not want to involve himself in anything troublesome. It would be such a weird conversation to have with Khal about.

Amir took the walk to the shop in question. It was his first time at a forge and he wanted to scope the place out. It was better for him to do it now than wait till he already had the job. It was just one more way that Amir planned and thought ahead. He noted the windows backdoor, and neighbors in the vicinity. To the outside people Amir was looking just as shady as everyone else in Oak.

The knock on the door was light and raspy. Amir put on his best smile and nice demeanor. It was an easy job to do and he wanted to do it. A giant man opened the huge door while still taking most of the space at the frame. Amir almost thought he was a humanoid bear at first look. The giant looked down at Amir before huddling back into the shop as if saying to follow. Amir went inside well taking a look around.

The shop was warm as expected of a forge. Various scents of metal lingered in the air. It was warming in a cozy way that made Amir feel the urge to nap. He sat in a small chair present in the room and started to chat. The details of the job were simple. Try not to touch anything and watch the place. Amir could not shake his head fast enough. The giant was happy that someone would do it. He grabbed his coat and headed out to get to the drinking contest. Amir would have entered and won it himself, if he was not so tired.

Standing up from his seat Amir decided to look around the inside of the forge. He could avoid not touching but he was curious to see all that was around him. Amir was busy reading some forge blueprints that were open, he did not touch them. When he heard some noises from outside. The first couple of times he attributed it to critters in the garbage. When he started to hear voices he decided on going outside to check it out.

When he was opening the door he could hear swearing, and the sounds of people running away in a hurry. The outside of the shop got messed up. Paint smear, trash, and various things were out of place. The little hoodlums dirtied the place and left before Amir could retaliate. It was an annoyance but it was Oak city. Amir did not think for a second his own guild city in Astera could be as bad.

Amir used water from the house to clean off the fresh graffiti, the garbage was picked up by hand. He erased the presence of the hoodlums as if they were never there. It took a couple of hours as he was one person doing the job of approximately three hoodlums. He still finished the work up in a timely manner. He wanted to get back to looking at those sweet blueprints. He had just gotten to sit down when a rude knock was made on the door. Amir felt a twitch in his eye as he hated to get interrupted when trying to read.

Amir answered the door and saw a group of people with knives. Acting quickly he lashed out with his magic aiming at the neck of the closest one to him. He would use this one as a barrier if given the change. Amir did not know that his impromptu actions stunned some of them. Usually people new to Oak would freeze in fear when confronted with weapons. Amir was too battle ready. You could not live long on the streets pulling punches. The thug in front reacted quickly and tried to move out the way. He was blocked by his friends pushing forward. It was enough to nick him. Amir followed it up with a swift kick to the leg.

“I hope you bastards are prepared to meet your doom. I spare not those that come bearing arms against me.” His voice was frigid cold as he stared at them.

Amir did not give them a chance at a proper retaliation. Taking and seizing the initiative was the most important. Amir tried to throw a few punches but settled for magic. His body was too physically weak to handle the strain of a brawl. By the time Amir managed to knock them all out he was breathing really heavily. He had to put his hands on his knees and take some deep breaths. He tied them up tightly making sure they were bound. He left them on the sidewalk. He did not have the energy or inclination to bring them in.

Heading back into the forge Amir relaxed till Rander returned. The man commented on the thugs in a laugh riddled voice. He was drunk but seeing the trussed thugs tickled his funny bone a lot. The jolly giant gave him his jewels and escorted him out of the forge. Amir went back to his hotel happy about the income and battle practice.
