The light of the sun’s beams peaked over the horizon and covered the land in a welcoming glow. Another morning was rising up over earthrealm and like many others Hitomi was awake to greet it. In a world full of war, diseases, and many other things that have crippled the people of this world, sometimes just the beauty of another day was enough. Giving the view outside of her window from the room she rented on more look, the violet haired mage pulled herself away and in doing so walked herself to the immaculate bathroom her room provided. The hotel she stayed in was one of the best in the capitol and it had to be if she was to continue her work here. Over the months she had grown accustomed to the finer things in life, and that included where she rested her head. The pristine marble floors and walls gave a sense of luxury while the large obsidian bath, walk in shower, with soft lightning that could be changed with a bit of mana. Everything about the bath spoke opulence and that was just the bathroom, the whole hotel room itself was on another level of wonder as it took up the entire floor, the penthouse suite they called it. The whole top floor of the hotel to herself, it was practically styled like a very large apartment that was already furnished. With the newly gained funds that she earned, Hitomi wanted to treat herself while she was in Bosco.

All the work she had been putting in had paid off and another person was out of Hildegard’s way. Unfortunately there were still people going against her, the newest pain in the ass was Cassia. Without realizing it that purple haired wench had gained soaring popularity seemingly overnight. This sort of jump felt more or less the same sort of jump that knocked Brunhilde out of the running for the seat to rule Bosco. Turning on the bathwater to a comfortable steaming hot and adding in rose oil and petals she wouldn’t worry herself. Although the lead for Hildegard was lost for now, things have a way of turning around for the Beastmaster, and once Hitomi was done gathering herself up she would make sure to put in the work to balance the scales. Once the bath was full she slipped off her silk robe and let her body glide into the water. Hitomi let out a deep sigh once she was fully submerged up to her neck, the water working out the kinks and soreness she had accumulated while the scent of the rose oil relaxed her further. Luxury was so nice to enjoy when she could. She hated that she would eventually have to go out across Bosco and be robbed of it. After what seemed like a lifetime of stress melting away she would soon get up and out of the bath. Grabbing the thickest, plushiest, and absolutely sofestet towel she ever had the pleasure of wrapping around her skin, Hitomi dried herself up and set to work on getting herself ready to head out.

“ No Grandfather I won’t be needing any security. How come you always ask this? “ Hitomi chuckled out the words as her gaze fell gently on her grandfather who was giving his best stern face. Ever since learning of her family on her mother’s side the man had been ruthless in offering her protection and aid. When she said no he found a way to give it to her anyway and there wasn’t a time she was ever truly alone. It felt so strange having to be watched over this way but she could understand why he went through such great lengths to make sure his granddaughter was safe. She didn’t even need the answer to the question that she asked, but she knew he would answer it anyway. Brining the small cup of tea to her lips, her eyes made their way around the cafe. Not many people were inside and most of them were men from her family. They were the finest samurai and mages around and she had never felt safer with them, even though they hardly said a word. “ I absolutely refuse to lose you. We already lost your mother. You’re lucky I didn't take you back to Joya as soon as I found you. Fiore is no place for you and the sooner you realize that the sooner we can go home.” His words came out in a huff and when he was done he drank from his own cup of tea before placing it down and scowling at a man who was looking a little too hard at Hitomi.

Although she knew it was wrong she couldn’t help but giggle. It was still so wild to know that she had a family who loved her so much, and that she was a reminder to them that they might have lost a precious member of their family, but they gained another and loved her all the same. Placing her hands over her grandfathers to get his attention, their eyes soon met when the man who stared at her couldn’t take any more of the overwhelming pressure her grandfather exuded. “Grandfather, I promise that I am strong enough to protect myself. I know you are my family but I have people I love here too and I can’t just abandon them. Of course I’ll go home with you, of course I’ll meet the family and even stay in Joya, but I will go where I please, when I please. “ Hitomi’s words came out softly but they didn’t falter, there was only clarity as she spoke and when she was done her grandfather could only sigh. He knew she was right of course, she was just like her mother, and that’s why it hurt him so. For now he just had to trust her but of course a little extra protection wouldn’t hurt and that’s what his men were for, to watch her every move in case something did happen. Is this what having a family was about? To always be looked over and watched? To have someone worry and protect you? Hitomi thought about Odin and all that came with him, she couldn’t remember him doing these things.

The small lunch time Hitomi shared with her grandfather was just the boost she needed to start her day. She had a list of things to get through and each one of them catered directly to the reason why she was even Bosco. The first thing on her list was going back to the village of Normandi. Her last visit was with another mage who’s name evaded her but they had the task of helping the villagers create a sustainable food source. The two started with a garden and laid down the groundwork for the village of about seven hundred and twenty people. It had been almost two weeks since they had been there but the work wasn’t truly done. Heading back to her hotel suite she packed a few clothes and items before making the trip to the village, which was about a ten hour trip west of Bosco’s capital. Hitomi already prepared herself with a carriage and because they still had plenty of daylight she wasn’t too worried about getting there a bit after dark. Though the roads were dangerous at night she knew that it didn’t matter, it wasn’t like she’d be alone. Placing her bag in the carriage and getting in, Hitomi slept for the whole trip. She had sent word that she would be arriving and so she already had a place to stay within one of the empty homes the village had built. Normandi was a quaint little village that was built for the demi-humans who lost their home due to the rebel forces of stella.

Normandi was a village made up of demi-humans from different smaller villages living in one that would fit them all plus more. It had enough land that they could expand if they needed to. Due to the village being so new the villagers needed help with sustainable water, creating a safe way to get clean water into the village, and a few other things to improve their quality of life. Hitomi would be there to help with it all of course, and as she strode into the quaint little home that was neatly furnished she took her things into the room she would be sleeping in and put them away. Once she was ready for bed she quickly got under the covers and fell asleep.The night came, went, and Hitomi was up with the rising sun. She had better sleep in worse places but she wouldn’t dwell on that now. Looking around her room she sighed deeply. One could wonder where those bodyguards of hers slept, ate, and cleaned themselves. “ You all can come out now.. I know you must be hungry. You stay inside with me and you’ll have clean clothes, food, and a nicer place to sleep. “ Her voice rang out and for a moment she was only met with silence. A few more moments went by and still more silence. Even more moments went by and soon enough there was a knock at the door. Smiling, she went to open it and there were five men standing there dressed like her grandfather but in much more modest colors and designs.

“ Come on in. There are enough rooms in here for you all and enough baths for you to shower. I’ll go find some clean clothes for you but first let me get breakfast started. “ Shaking her head she stepped aside to let them men through and watched as they stood around. Showing them to their rooms the house had a total of f six bedrooms with five full bathrooms. Demi-humans tend to have big families so the houses that were built were made to accommodate that. As they all settled into their rooms and started their showers, Hitomi got to work quickly whipping up some eggs, bacon, hot cakes, and tea. She made more than enough and by the time she was done she had already eaten her fill and was back upstairs to clean and dress herself. Once she came back down stairs the men were eating and she was out the door borrowing clothes for them to have for a few days. Once the men were all fed she sat them down, if they were gonna be watching over her they were gonna do some damn work. “ Listen. I know my grandfather sent you out to watch over and protect me. I understand that perfectly. I have no problems with it either, but if you are all gonna be here you are gonna have to do some work with me. “ Since she had known about and met these men she had never heard them speak aloud. In fact now that she thought about it she didn’t even know their names. How could something like that just slip by her?

Pondering that thought, each man, as if knowing what she had thought, stood up. Each man said their name and thanked her for welcoming them into her home. They didn’t expect such kindness from her and they all apologised for being so...Distant. Hitomi, though flattered, didn't have time for their kind words or at least didn’t have the time to properly get into thanking them. She explained to them what they would be doing and she headed out to meet with the village elder, her little entourage in tow. The village elder was an older gentleman, a deer demi-human with long brown hair, kind eyes, and glorious antlers. He explained that the crops that were planted when they came last seem to be doing well. Hitomi was happy to hear this and the two spoke about the next course of action and what was to be done while she was here. The meeting didn’t last too long and once she was done she had her group of men spread out amongst the villagers. Each man would lead a group of the demi-humans in a task to help the village and once they were all done they were to meet Hitomi back at the house for dinner and such. The oldest of the group Takumi was to lead the strongest men in the village out to gather wood and few other items in order to help build a proper outer defense around the village. They needed walls to at least protect them and the crops from animals, attacks from rebels, and just as some sort of security. Along with walls, a few watch towers needed to be built.

Taishiro was the twin of Takumi and he was to help a group of villagers direct clean water into the village. Since Normandi was next to a freshwater river it would be easy to get the water in. What would be a little more tricky was to centralize it and have it be able to flow throughout the village, on top of that they had to make sure the water was clean, something that could be done with a little bit of magical engineering, thankfully. Of all the men in her bodyguard group Taishiro was the most fit for this role, he actually volunteered himself to do it. The next person up was Taku, the physically biggest of the group. He was placed within the hunting group to gather up livestock for the village as another source of sustainable food. The last two of her bodyguards Takeo and Toshi would help with the farm. With everyone situated to a job the teams went off to do their business. They all would be working with the daylight hours since it was the safest for the villagers. This meant they had precious time they could not waste. Hitomi led her group to the large and mostly unturned farmland. Sending Takeo out with a smaller group and Toshi out with the same number out of that smaller group, she gave them the equipment they would need to turn the rest of the land. Hitomi herself would get geared up and take her group to the area of the farm where things had already been planted the last time she was here.

“ These things need water. “ She spoke the words under her breath as she felt the dry soil. It hadn’t been raining like it was supposed to and they hadn’t gotten the irrigation system up just yet so all the watering had to be done by hand. Nodding her head she split her group even further so that some of them went to get the water while those that stayed behind watered the crops.Since it was summer they had the option of planting a few things. Currently in the ground was corn and as soon as the earth was turned from Toshi and Takeo’s groups other things like peppers, okra, berries, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, shallots, melons, and a bunch of other delicious things for the village. The layout of the farm made it easy to get around and there were raised platforms to help the villagers get to places around the farm without trampling the crops already planted. Like a well oiled machine, water came and Hitomi and her group got to work. The groups though dry were still doing ok as the village elder said. All they had to do was maintain the crops and teach the villagers how to take care of them a little better. When Hitomi was sure that the crops were being properly watered she went over to Takeo and Toshi to see how they were doing and lend a helping hand. They were in charge of turning the earth and they seemed to be doing fine, but Hitomi had Takeo switch with her so that he would be helping water the crops and she would be helping turn the earth.

Hitomi figured there was no need for them to lose any work that they had been doing so this was a good trade off. Picking up a hoe she began to bring the tool down into the dirt. It was hard work of course but she continued to help turn the earth along with her fellow Demi-humans. It was a peaceful time and she got to learn alot about the villagers she was working next to and alot about Takeo and Toshi. It seems they had been training all their lives in order to protect her if they ever found her. They had to admit that they didn’t think they would but they never once faltered on their training and did it with all their being. Hitomi wondered why they gave their all to a person they knew they might not ever meet and that they didn’t even know when they were told what they would be training so hard for. For them it was simple. Family was everything and no matter what you didn’t turn your back on family. Their words nearly brought a tear to her eyes but she had to keep it together for the sake of the group and their work. Toiling away in the hot sun everything seemed to be going well. Takumi had come round the farm to Hitomi after a few hours to give a report on his group. The wood collection was going well and they were collecting wood from trees around the village in a way that would allow for expansion.

This made Hitomi happy because that meant when the time came for expanding the village there would be even more ample space. Takumi also explained they saved any of the seeds so they could replant the trees later. The collection of wood enough to build the wall would take a few days but they were more or less on schedule. Hitomi told them to take their time since they would be living in the village for a while. Normadi was supposed to be one of the bigger projects to bring the Demi-Humans together and create not just a small village but an area of land that they would rule and have their own set of laws and such but still fall under bosco’s law. With the Stellan rebels running amok all of the smaller villages around Bosco were being targeted and displacing the people in these villages. With Normadi being built it would bring those villages together and make them less of a target with more numbers protecting them. After Takumi’s report he left to finish his task, not too long after that Taishiro popped up and gave his report. Taishiro was tasked with getting clean water into the village. It was probably the biggest task of them all considering the construction it would take to route the water to the homes and areas which needed it the most. Before he could even think about the water itself he would need to think of a way to get it underground and flowing properly to each area.

Not to mention he would need to think several steps ahead in order to make it easy to route the water to future homes and establishments. From what she gathered from the rest of the brothers Taishiro was the smartest of the group, often referred to as the tactician. What she learned about the brothers from themselves and from what each brother happened to tell her, she placed each person accordingly. Hitomi had to admit she was worried about the water situation but as Taishiro gave his report she began to be at ease. There were a few mages in the village who used their abilities to help Taishiro and he even taught a handful of the villagers and mages about the water system and how to maintain and upkeep it. They were lucky enough to have such fresh water right next to the village so this made it easy to keep it filtered. Taishiro pulled Hitomi to the side and pulled out the structural plans and blueprints for the waterways and such that would help the village in case anything went wrong or something needed going over. It was such detailed work over a few pages that she was more surprised than anything else. It had only been a few hours and so much work had gotten done. Talking over some of the finer points with Taishiro, Hitomi thanked him and sent him to finish his work for the day. All seemed well but as time went on one group seemed to be missing.

Taku and his hunting band were sent out to control the overpopulation of wolves by capturing them for Hildegard, find wild birds and hogs to be bred for food, and make sure there were no surrounding rebel camps in the area, and if there were to clear them out. Since Taku’s task sent him outside of the village she didn’t need an hourly report, but it had been enough hours that passed where they should have come back with something. The pens for the animals had already been built; they just needed to be put inside, and the cages for the wolves to be transported in were ready to go for the next morning. As the day turned into the afternoon and the afternoon turned into the evening, Hitomi and the rest began packing up and getting ready to send the villagers off on home or wherever they’d like to go after the work for the day had been done. Hitomi and her merry band of bodyguards got together and waited in the front of the village for Taku who came back happy, bloody, and followed by the villagers, lots of animals, and some tied up individuals. Hitomi was the first to greet Taku who had thanked her for the task he was given. Apparently it had been far too long since he was able to let loose and in doing his task he did just that. From the report that Taku had given the group had an easy time hunting down the wolf population and harder time collecting the animals requested due to the wolf population.

The growing number of wolves without any predators caused their population to boom and even with Taku and his group out it would take months to get it under control. Though they did find the animals requested they also found rebel camps. Before attacking these camps, Taku made sure to survey them, which is why his task took longer than it should have. The rebels knew about Normandi and they wanted it destroyed before it could be built because they knew it would be a much bigger problem if it grew to the size of a large town. The stellan forces were going to burn down the village but thankfully Taku caught them first. He and his group slaughtered most of them and the ones they didn’t capture were sent to the capital for interrogation. It seemed like the ones that were caught were the leaders of the operation at hand. Taku had done something surprising in bringing them here but once all the livestock was put away and the smaller details were handled, Hitomi noticed that there was no jail to place these people until they could be taken to the capitol. Sending the rest of the villagers home she opted to keep the rebels in the house they stayed in and the group would just take turns watching over them for the night. Hitomi was already exhausted but she would go home with her bodyguards and have everyone clean up while the rebels were placed in the basement.

Today was such a productive day and so many things got accomplished. The people of Normandi would be essential in helping Hildegard secure the throne, and Hitomi would make sure of it. Stepping into the shower she quickly cleaned herself before dressing down and heading into the kitchen to cook. Before she could even get there three of the brothers were already cleaned up and cooking. “ Please have a seat. Dinner will be ready soon. We’re making roast pheasant, rice, and a spring salad. For dessert, some cheesecake. We are also making a side of poragie and bacon fat for the rebels downstairs. “ Takumi’s voice was the first to respond before she could even say anything as Taishiro led her to a plush chair and began to massage her feet. She didn’t protest she couldn’t but she did have a question about where the other two were. “ Toshi is taking the first shift in watching the rebels and Taku is currently preparing a carriage for tomorrow when we take the rebels to the capitol along with the wolves. “ Hitomi smiled and relaxed in her seat, dozing off as she felt her body melt. She didn’t know it but today’s work took her out and she had to do it all over again tomorrow. Hitomi didn’t know how long she had been passed out but she was gently woken up by Takumi who led her to the dinner table where everyone already was. It was a pleasant dinner and the group learned even more about one another.
