It was an unusually chilly day in Hargeon. It wasn't too terrible, but it came as a shock to suddenly need a jacket outside when the weather had been so beautiful down in the southern beach city. Even for Hargeon, it appeared winter was not yet over. It seemed it put a damper on people's moods. From what Atani could tell as she looked out the window of her room and sipped herbal tea, the streets were unusually quiet. Less people were about. She imagined they were shut in enjoying the comfort of home like she was, though she did not intend on staying inside forever.

Polishing off the last few drops of her drink, the elf got ready to go out on the streets. Cooler weather always put her in the mood for warm comfort food, and there had been a small noddle shop she had been meaning to try out for a while. It was a dish she found surprisingly delicious. It was not a staple of Athalran. When she tried it for the first time in a Fiorian town, she was disappointed they didn't have it back at home.

Atani walked along the stone streets, gazing at the various shops and restaurants she passed along the way. Soon enough, she came to the small restaurant sandwiched between two larger ones. It wasn't elaborately decorated and as such was easy to miss. Upon entry, it came as no surprise to find that it was relatively uncrowded as well, which was what Atani preferred. She grabbed a seat at the far end of the bar to be away from others and was given a menu.

"I'll start off with green tea please," the elf said before looking back to the menu. Everything looked so good, it was hard to decide what to choose. Perhaps the miso...

It was an uncommonly chilly day in the port town of hargeon. But that only meant more people would be coming inside to keep warm as opposed to enjoying what the outside had to offer. While it was cold outside, it was quite hot in the kitchen with Manzo being hard at work, cooking up a storm for the patrons of his recently acquired tavern.

Hard to believe a hitman gave up that life for something like being a cook, and owning a restaurant but it did bring him joy in his everyday life, and it allowed him to be a public member of the guild, and leave his house before nightfall. Which was certainly something that made him happy.

As he finished up the dishes for the current patrons, he saw someone at the lonely corner of the bar, seemingly peering over the menu. Which of course meant that it was time for him to take their order, or at least make some kind of a suggestion to them.

He walked out of the kitchen door, conveniently located behind the bar. It was not a large place, some could even call it a hole in the wall, which it was. But it made the atmosphere feel far more homey than anywhere else he had gone to. Which he thought gave it a nice amount of charm, as well as his own personal collection of plants the decorated the inside.

He walked over to the woman, not really paying attention to the persons face, he saw a lot of faces.
"Hello and welcome what can I get for-" He stopped dead in his tracks when a familiar scent came over his senses. Someone he had smelled before, someone he had grown close to. "You." He said in a tone of disbelief.

It seemed like no time had passed at all before she was served a warm cup of green tea. Blowing on it gently, Atani lifted the cup to her mouth and sipped on the liquid. The elf pursed her lips as a bitter taste singed her tongue. At home, this was never an issue, for she usually drank chamomile green tea. Otherwise, she needed extra flavor. She had forgotten to ask if there was any lemon to go with it, but no matter. Someone would be around again to take her order soon enough, though she still had no idea which dish she wanted to try. There were all so many, each one coming with its own unique flavor palate. She wasn't even sure what she was in the mood for at this point.

Atani looked up from her menu at the sight of a blonde-haired man appearing from the kitchen. It looked like he was coming to take her order, but the girl still was not ready yet. She was prepared to ask him what he recommended from the place to make her decision easier, but was caught off guard when his sentence momentarily trailed off. It seemed that she had surprised him in a way, though she wasn't sure why.

"Is... something wrong?" she asked, puzzled as to what could have been the matter. It couldn't have been due to the fact she was an elf, was it? No, he sounded stunned. Not repulsed or awe-struck, the two most common reactions she got from humans who hadn't seen elves before. So what was it?

Was something wrong? No, just as though he felt as though a ghost from his past had walked through the door after two years of nothing. No this situation was perfectly fine, nothing wrong with it at all, in fact it was super. Oh the sarcasm that went on in his mind.

"Oh no, it's nothing, your face just reminded me of someone I used to know." He said with a laugh. If she didn't remember him, perhaps this wasn't the same girl as before. But that would not satisfy him. He would now do some little things to test to see if it was truly her. Not wanting to make a fool of himself in front of the customers just because of a case of mistaken identity.

"My name's Manzo I'll be taking your order, and subsequently cooking it. I do just about everything here." Ah yes the name test, if it was her, she'd remember the name of the man who she held in her arms to heal during a demon invasion. That kind of thing isn't something you forget so easily, even if time went on this far without them seeing each other.

"Also, love the ears, just so you know all species and races are welcome in my place. So please make yourselves comfortable." If she was the woman in question, the name and mention of her ears would be something to jog her memory. It was one of the first things he had ever said to her, a compliment of her ears. Which back then caught her off guard, a human who didn't find her repulsive.

Somebody that he used to know? Atani hummed a wondering hmm in reply. Elves were hard to come by in these parts of Fiore. It was strange she even reminded the waiter of one, being as they all had varying colors of hair and eyes. Perhaps it was just in the face-- Wood Elves tended to have delicate features, even the most wild of them all did.

"Manzo... Interesting name," she smiled to the man. It was not one she heard frequently among humans, not among Fiorian ones at the very least. "Are you from around here?" If not, then the two of them had that in common. Strange names coming from strange places. It too would have been surprising to see a Fiorian named Atani, but in Athalran it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Atani's cheeks flushed a light shade of rose at Manzo's compliment. She returned a sheepish smile and reflexively brought a hand to her pointed ear. "T-Thank you," she stammered, quite surprised at the man's words. It was not every day she received that sort of kindness. Completely lost in the moment, she had almost forgotten that she was supposed to be ordering her meal by now. Clearing her throat, Atani's hand fell back down into her lap. She looked briefly down at the menu once more before meeting Manzo's eyes again.

"Right, well, I still haven't quite decided what I wanted yet. Do you recommend anything? Oh- and before I forget, you wouldn't happen to have any lemon to go with my drink, would you?" It would be nice to have some before her tea got cold.

"you're uh, you're most welcome miss." He said with a warm smile on his face. Nothing, so maybe this wasn't the woman in question. He did know of potions that could change someone's appearance. He had used them on more than one occasion, the face he was wearing right now was quite new. But that wasn't the point at all. He had a job to do, and by god he was going to do it, same woman or not.

A tree sprouted from his shoulder, adorned with a lemon, he plucked it from said shoulder and began to cut it up whilst he thought about what he'd like to recommend to her. Everything on his menu was delicious in it's own rite, but at the same time he knew that a traditionally joyan menu could be quite intimidating, considering most Joyans don't venture far from the island nation.

"Let's see here, I guess my recommendation would depend upon what exactly ou were looking to have." He began to hum an elven tune he had heard Kerii sing all those years ago. It was simple and elegant. Much like he would describe the elves themselves. But it wasn't an insult to be sure, he always admired their way of life, very self sufficient.

"If you're in the mood for something to stick to your ribs, I'd recommend any of the udon dishes." He said as he washed his hands before taking a half of lemon into his hands and squeezing the juice into her cup of tea. Making sure to catch the seeds in his hands. He would wipe his hands on a towel that was kept behind the bar.

"If you're in the mood for sweet and spicy, I'd recommend the peanut butter curry. It's a favorite of most people on a cold day."
He then placed a lemon wedge onto the side of her cup for garnish, wanting to really drive home the presentation standards he strove for here.

When Atani had asked for a lemon, the last thing she was expecting was for Manzo to sprout a lemon tree from his shoulder the procure a fresh one for her. A mage running a Joyan themed noodle shop, who would have thought? Her eyes gleamed with delight. She hardly met any nature magic wielders these days.

"You're a nature mage too?" she asked excitedly. As a demonstration of her own abilities, she tapped her finger to the rim of her teacup and let a vine gently spiral around the glass, careful not to form any cracks. "I don't think I've ever tried to grow a lemon tree before." The thought had not really crossed her mind. Her spells mainly consisted of roots, vines, flowers, leaves... Never trees though. Certainly not anything fruit-bearing.

Atani looked over the menu once more as Manzo began thinking of recommendations. Her train of concentration was broken, however, as a strangely familiar tune hit her ears, one she had never expected to hear in mainland Fiore. It was one she had only heard in the land of the elves. How would this man have known about it? She waited until Manzo was finished with his suggestions to inquire. In the meantime, she sipped on her green tea, now flavored perfectly with fresh lemon juice.

"I think I'll have the peanut curry then." Sweet and spicy seemed like a good combination for today. Atani's eyes then fell to the contents of her drink as she moved her cup in little circles, gently swirling the liquid together. "Hey Manzo, what was that song you were humming?"

"Oh yeah, I guess I am a nature mage." He said with an embarrassed smile on his face. But mainly because he was the strongest nature mage in the country at the time. There wasn't one above him, and all were below him, which was a pretty odd thing for him. It was not overly common for him to be the strongest in anything, not anymore.

"I'm known as the woodland dragon, well in the world of mages I go by many names. Sage of the forest, being the most common." How strange it was to speak about himself in such a braggadocios way. It was still strange for him to be a public figure at this time. Usually no one came into contact with him during these times of day. Though he decided after returning from the forests, that was no way for him to live.

"But uh most people areound here just call me Ace, due to my position in Blue Pegasus." He said as he began to walk away from the bar counter, propping the door to the kitchen open so the two could keep their conversation going whilst he worked on her meal.
Then the question of the song he was humming came up.

Truthfully it was something spoken in elvish, something that he had never asked Kerii to explain to him, usually because he would often times get lost in his singing. Mainly because the first time he heard it, she was healing a stab wound on his body. It became synonymous with feeling safe, so he just didn't think to ask.

"My elven friend sang it to me once, I actually don't know the name." He said with a laugh as he began to pour rice into the rice cooker in the kitchen.

"I'm known as the woodland dragon."

She blinked. Dragon, dragon? Sage of the forest too, evidently. She was surprised she hadn't heard of him before. Usually she was keen on identifying fellow nature mages, but perhaps she was still too new to mainland Fiore. And it wasn't like she was much of a social butterfly either. The most getting out she did was for jobs.

"Some people have called me the Sylvan Fay, whatever that's worth. Not nearly as cool as the Woodland Dragon though," she smirked. She was still puzzled as to how she had picked up that name so quickly. She understood that elves and healers weren't exactly common in Fiore, but she didn't think she did anything too special yet. Unbeknownst to her, of course, it was a title her old self had garnered in her travels as well as Lamia Scale's Draken, though the latter had not been mentioned in years.

Atani felt her heart skip a beat as Manzo mentioned that he was part of Blue Pegasus, but not just any member of Blue Pegasus. "Wait, you're the ace?" She felt embarrassed for not having recognized it sooner. "I'm sorry, I'm actually kinda new to the guild." She pulled down a bit of her shirt to reveal the green emblem just below her left collarbone. "Which... I guess means I should probably introduce myself. I'm Atani."

• • •

The girl watched as Manzo went back into the kitchen. The door was left open so they could continue their discussion. As for the song he was humming, another elf he knew sang it to him, though he didn't know the name of the melody. Smiling wistfully to herself, Atani took another sip of her tea before responding. "It's called Silith Dae." Her natural elven tones came through with mentioning the name of the song in Val'Elvharin. "It's one of my favorites."

"They only call me that because I'm elder dragon slayer of nature. I learned nature magic from the dragon itself. I found it by accident." He said with a laugh and a blush while rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. He pulled a soft pack of cigarettes out of his front pocket. Putting one in between his lips. He snapped his fingers to light his cigarette, blowing the smoke in the opposite direction of the food he was making, it was common in Joya for cooks to smoke in the kitchen, but he didn't want to get any of it inside of the food.

"Well, welcome to the guild then, Atani." He said as he used his free hand to lift up his own shirt to show her his guild mark. Above his six pack, on his defined pectoral could be found a black guild tattoo. He needed to have it filled in again, it was about ten years old, certainly needed a decent touch up. "By the way, guild members get a discount at my place. So you will not be paying full price today." He said with a laugh.

Ah so that was the name of that beautiful song, he had never heard the name spoken aloud in a way he could understand. Kerii was always a secretive one about her people's tongue and secrets. In fact, if memory served him correctly, he was one of the only humans to ever truly accept her, or compliment her ears. Talk about dejavu.

"So Atani, what does your name mean in your tongue. I've heard that elven names are usually handed down from the elders, and are in them selves very powerful."

"A dragon slayer." She breathed out a sigh of awe. She had heard tales of them in Athalran, but to meet one herself? Atani didn't think that would have come to pass so soon, much less one who used the same type of magic she did. And to think it all happened because he accidentally stumbled upon a dragon. "That must be some story, meanwhile I'm just here with healing magic." The girl laughed and shook her head. They were not nearly on the same level as one another. Not in the slightest.

As for the matter of Blue Pegasus, Manzo welcomed her to the guild and revealed that members got a discount at his place. "Thanks," she grinned, "though I have to wonder, what's the ace of Blue Pegasus doing running a noodle shop?"

It was strange. Not only was he one of their guild's strongest by that title, but he was a dragon slayer as well. Yet with all that power, he chose to settle down and serve Joyan delights for a living. One did not rise through the ranks, learn ancient magic from a dragon, and then do so little without reason.

The topic eventually shifted back to her and her elven name. It was interesting he brought that up. Whoever his elf friend was must have taught him a lot of things. "My name is a bit of a strange case," she conceded. "I'm a Wood Elf, but Atani is a more common name in Elvhenan where the High Elves live. It doesn't really have a direct translation from Elvarin, but I think the closest I can come up with is freedom. But aside from that, elven names are rather personal so..."

Her voice trailed off, implying she didn't want to go further into the matter. In truth, she didn't know a lot on the inheritance of her name, and for the significance Manzo mentioned, it was why she had tried to find out its origin. It did have its roots in Elvhenan, but she didn't know why. It was possible she had ancestors there, but that was rare for Wood Elves such as her.

What was he doing here? That was a good question. Well for anyone who doesn't know him, which is well everyone to be honest. There were people inside of Blue Pegasus who didn't know who their Ace was. Something that would hopefully be rectified at the next guild party, which he would actually attend this time around in all honesty. Something he had not done in quite a long time either.

"I decided, that I was more than a tool for taking life." He said as he began his work on the peanut sauce for her meal. His life as a hitman was finally over, he could be more than what he was. This is how he chose to be more than a tool. Forsaking a magic that's only use was for the taking of life, for something that had the ability to make life, as well as protect it.

As she talked about her name, he figured he wouldn't really get anything out of her. Just because he was kind to her, didn't mean she would be trusting enough to give him the meaning of her name. The elven people did after all believe in the power of knowing a name. Not to mention there were people out there who still very much wanted to hunt them, and take their ears for trophies.

Which he didn't understand, even as a hit man, he never killed for sport. Not once. It was always for the job, and it had to be for a good reason. A tool with a heart, a strange concept to say aloud so he wouldn't.

"My name means, thousand fold strong son. Which I thought was strange considering I was the youngest in my family. But I am the strongest, and subsequently the tallest." He said with a laugh as he stirred in the coconut milk.

Atani knit her brows at Manzo's reply. In all honesty, she wasn't sure she knew how to respond to that. It was not something she could relate to on a personal level. A tool for taking a life... That was the farthest thing from her magic. Even the mere fear of it had not once been a passing thought for the peaceful elf. The corners of her lips turned downwards to form a slight frown.

"I'm sorry," she finally replied. Sorry he had that kind of life. Sorry she even asked the question to remind him of it. She wouldn't ask him what he meant by that. If he wanted to stop that life and start a noodle shop of all things, chances were he didn't want to talk of it either— Total separation from his troubled past.

Atani was glad they had moved on to a less depressing topic. Manzo told her what his name meant, giving far more context than she did. He found the whole thing rather amusing. She smiled upon hearing his laugh. It was nice to hear, especially after that awkward moment.

"So, tell me Manzo," Atani began after taking another sip of her tea. "How long have you been in Blue Pegasus? What's it been like so far?"

She was curious. She hadn't been in the guild long and had initially wanted to be part of it due to its good reputation and similar moral standings. Aside from that, she admittedly didn't know much of what she was getting herself into long-term.

"Oh jeez, how long has it been now?" He said with a puzzled look on his face. He would have to take the age he lost his virginity and do some math, and then still finish the dish he was working on. So in order to do so, he removed his shirt and had vines sprout out of his back and begin to take over the cooking duties for him. Because he was going to need his fingers to do the math.

"Okay, I'm 26, at least I think that's how old I am. Time is huge blur to me. He would take his age, and then Alisa's age. Then it dawned on him, he had no idea how old she was. Which was sad, considering she was his oldest and closest friend. He was terrible with dates. He was terrible with most things involving time, for the sole fact he believed time was a man made construct and they were all just simply living in this point of existence.

But the discussion of time being relative was not something one had before they had their lunch. The vines then delivered to Atani the dish in which she had requested. Hopefully she would find it enjoyable, he worked on it with his own two vines.
He then sent another vine to procure for him a white board and marker in which he could do math on.

Moments later he would discover that he had been doing the advanced functions to explain times relativity to space and dimension, which not even he knew, that well, he knew. "If my math is correct, which it is, I believe it has been about a decade now." He said as the vines from his back were playing tic tac toe with one another.

It seemed that Manzo didn't have a clear idea how long he had been part of Blue Pegasus. For that matter, he didn't remember his age either. Atani gave a silent nod in understanding. Coincidentally, they were in the same boat. He estimated his age to be twenty six, which was more or less around where Atani expected hers to be. Oftentimes it was difficult for elves to know their age based on appearance due to their longevity and slowed aging-- some in their hundreds appeared to be no more than thirty-- but even having taken that into account, she appeared younger than most of the elves in Athalran. She had not yet advanced as far into adulthood as others, and that was where age began to become but a number.

Manzo's vines soon placed the finished peanut butter curry in front of her. "Thank you!" She gently stirred her spoon in the curry mixture. It smelled delicious. As soon as she let it cool a bit, the elf was sure it would taste even better.

"A decade, huh? You became a mage at such a young age then." She didn't know whether to be surprised or not. It would be strange for an elf to leave their homeland with such few years of experience, but Manzo was human. "Is that typical of people here in Fiore? Forgive me, I'm still a little new to this area."

Was that typical of Fiore? Hard to say as he was not originally from here. But if he had to put his finger on it, he would say, that it was probably somewhere in the middle. As far as normalcy was concerned. To be completely honest. "To be completely fair, I'm not from here. So I don't really have a whole lot of any idea if that's normal or not. But in Joya we start learning magic from an early age. Mostly basic stuff so the children can perform jobs to earn money for their families." He said as he cocked his head to side, thinking about how hard life was for him back then.

The children who show no promise, are usually taken by feudal lords, either as house servants, or soldiers depending on who it is you were taken by." He said as he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and put it to his lips. Remembering such things required him to smoke the pain away. Inwardly of course, where he kept the pain. Outward, he had gotten very good as masking the trauma.

If that was something he should be proud of, he was not certain, but at times, he believed it made him weak, not strong. The masking of ones emotions.

It seemed Manzo was rather unsure of the true answer either, for he was from Joya. So he was an outsider too. In that regard, the two of them were the same. Though her home of Athalran was by all technicality still in Fiore, Wood Elves were a reclusive race. They wanted no association with mankind and stayed within their mystical forest abiding by their own rules. As long as they did not bother humans and humans did not bother them, they could coexist as if in separate countries. There was even a language barrier between the two, as was evidenced now by a slight Val'Elvarin accent in Atani that was absent in her past life as Kerii.

"What?" she exclaimed, a bit louder than intended. "That's awful."

Her voice softened and her lips pursed into a frown. She couldn't imagine being taken away from her family just from being absent of magic. Made into a servant or solider of all things too? It was inhumane. She knew of plenty beings who were incapable of utilizing magic apart from lacrimas, and they were at times just as capable if not more so than certain mages. It was sad Joya did not see the same in those folk.

Atani took a bite of the peanut butter curry. She needed a physical sense to jolt her away from her frustration. "This is amazing by the way." Her frown resolved itself. "You're right, it really is good for a day like this. How did a mage learn to become such a good cook?"

The elf crossed her legs on the bar stool and pondered what she would do if she was not a mage. At the time, she couldn't imagine doing anything else but use magic and pursue her intellectual desires. It would take a lot for her to change her way of life as drastically as Manzo.

"Personally, I don't think I can imagine doing anything else in my life besides things related to magic right now. It's all just so fascinating... And it helps me stay grounded to nature, even when I'm far from the rest of my kind."

There was a wistful look in her eyes as she absentmindedly stirred the curry once more. She didn't realize how much she'd miss her home until she spent months away from it in Fiore. Those months would only grow longer.

"How did I become such a good cook? Well before I was sold, I tended to stick to my mothers side. Hard not to pick things up." He said with a jovial smile. Even though his story was rather dark. Not something he could avoid, it was his truth, and he had grown tired of running from that fact. Grown tired of running from his life has a convict as well.

"I really honed my skills when I was in prison, after being exiled from the guild." He wasn't sure how she would take such a thing. But at the end of the day, there was nothing he could do about it. "Food in prison is something that everyone agrees on. Let's just say, the food the prison serves isn't exactly good."

He would then pull a bottle of whiskey out from under the bar, pour himself a bit, as he mused to her about his past. She didn't ask for all of this information of course but, once he started talking, he had a hard time stopping. Just kind of how he was.

"What we would do, is sneak food out of the guards quarters, and make things in our cells like that. Funny how even in prison you can still commit crimes." He said with a laugh as he took a sip from his glass.

Atani was astounded. Every time she asked a question, it seemed like it had some association to Manzo's dark past. Yet, despite it all, he continued to smile. It was an earnest smile too. "Before you were... sold?"

Her voice was soft with concern. She didn't think Manzo had been one of those children in Joya. After all, he was a mage now-- A Dragon Slayer no less. The ace of Blue Pegasus, and he had been sold as a child when he lived in Joya? She would never have guessed...

She would never have guessed he had been exiled from Blue Pegasus either. That one came as an even greater shock to the elf. Not just exiled, but imprisoned. Atani was left speechless. She listened as he told his tales of how he prepared food in prison to make it better than whatever they served the inmates there. He said it with such a casual tone. He even laughed as he reminisced about the past.

"So let me get this straight." She swallowed another gulp of tea before continuing. "The ace of Blue Pegasus was exiled, sent to prison, and then let back in the guild only to run a noodle shop." She smiled to herself and shook her head. "That's some story."

Atani paused to eat some more of the peanut curry. There was no sense in letting it go cold on a day where she'd appreciate a hot meal. "I wouldn't even know where to begin with my own... It's not nearly as, ahh, eventful as yours."

"Well I can't say I've had a boring life to say the least. But those were just the cliff notes. I hadn't even begun to mention the demon invasion of a few years ago." He said with a relieved look in his face. But it was bitter sweet thing for him as well. Simply because, it was the last time he had seen his friend. Said friend who this woman reminded him of, almost creepily. That was still presently on his mind, how could it not be. She was just so, familiar, in a way he couldn't explain.

"Oh yeah I served in two wars to protect the country that did indeed imprison me. Isn't that a joke." He said with a laugh. While it was true, he was an ex convict of this country, it was for a good reason. He gave himself up for a friend. A noble cause in his mind. Maybe not the smartest thing someone could have done. But at what point did anyone think he was smart.

"Hey, you wanna see something cool? I don't usually show it to people I've just met, but something tells me, you could appreciate it."

The demon invasions. She heard about those. Athalran had been sheltered from them, but other areas in Fiore were not so lucky. Astera especially had suffered horrible losses, she recalled. All the blood and carnage... She was thankful her homeland had been spared, but all in all, she didn't believe she heard much of what ever came of it. The elves had simply only told her of the tragedy, citing it as yet another reason to ward off humans; they only brought bad luck and destruction.

"Wars and demonic incursions, gods." She shook her head. Atani ate some more of her peanut butter curry. She had chosen a good time to arouse from her woodland paradise it seemed. All those tragedies would have sent any elf fleeing back home to their native land. Most would think it best to let them deal with their own discourses for chances are, as long as they did not have conflict with the elves themselves, Athalran would be left out of it. However, that was not a sentiment Atani believed she shared with the masses, especially not now as a mage.

Thankfully, their conversation had drifted from the dreaded topics of what had happened in recent years. It appeared that Manzo wanted to show her something. "Sure, what is it?"

"Well if I told you what it was that would ruin the surprise now wouldn't it?" He said flirtatiously. Which was uncharacteristic for him with strangers, but well, what's done is done. He of course would apologize for it, if she found it strange or unsettling. But none the less, it was time for him to show her, the surprise. She was an elf, so he hoped she would find it a nice surprise.

He would open the bar door for her to follow him out the back through the kitchen. Upon entering the outside of the shop, she would be greeted with a luscious green house of plants, a natural hot spring in the middle of it all, made of stone he placed there with his bare hands. It was something he was proud of. He would have shown it to Kerii if she was around to see it. But this elf, Atani, he reminded him so much of her. It was almost as if he was showing it to her.

"So what do you think?" He asked with the tone of anticipation. He was genuinely curious to see if it was something she would find nice and inviting. If not, no harm done. But it was something he needed to do, for a reason he did not quite understand at this moment.

Atani gave Manzo an inquisitive smile to his flirtatious question. "I suppose it would," she answered in the same tone. Now, she was curious as to what sort of 'surprise' this would be. After all, they had only known each other for not even an hour. So whatever it was, Atani did not expect it to be too grand.

She abandoned what remained of her meal and followed Manzo through a back door. Usually they led to simply the outside-- a place for supplies and shipments to come though-- but not this one. No, instead, it led to a zen garden of sorts-- The most impressive she had ever seen in Fiore. All the plants were such a luscious shade of green. They had clearly been taken excellent care of. And the hot spring in the centre of it all filled the room with just the right amount of calming warmth and moisture.

"So what do you think?"

What did she think? "Manzo, this is incredible!" the elf exclaimed, emerald eyes still wide with amazement. She softened her expression to something more neutral before looking back to Manzo. "Though I guess I should expect no less from the Woodland Dragon Slayer. But still-"

She looked to one of the plants closest to her. Gently rubbing its lively leaves between her fingertips, she continued with her train of thought. "- It's good to see someone taking such good care of nature. How did you decide to do this?"

"I'm glad you can appreciate it, it means a lot to me." He said with a warm smile. It was true, that this was a lot of work for one man. But if there was one thing he learned from his teacher, it was that the things in life you want, take time. A lesson he would not soon forget.

"My teacher instilled a deep love and care for all living things. Also plants are easier than people." He said with a laugh as he began to undress himself and grab a towel to place around his waist. Not wanting to expose himself to her in such a manner.

"I'm going to have a dip, care to join me?" He asked politely as he began to make his way over to the spring. What on earth was he doing? Inviting a stranger into his most inner sanctum, what the hell was up with him today. Seeing this woman had sent in him into a tail spin.

"Feel free to say no, but there will be wine, and the chance for a massage later." He said with another laugh as he stuck his feet into the warm water. Letting out a sigh of relief. He had been on them quite a while and could certainly use the relief.

Atani respected that Manzo had such a great outlook on nature. It seemed they cherished the same values in that regard. It also seemed they shared the same sentiment that plants were far easier than people were.

"They are, aren't they," Atani laughed in agreement. The idea was well shared among elves she knew. It was not uncommon for some to seclude themselves for days on end with nothing but the company of plants and forest spirits. Atani had been among such elves. Interaction with others was simply not always a necessity.

The girl's cheeks flushed as she saw Manzo begin to undress. She hadn't realized he had planned on taking a dip in the hot spring. Furthermore, she hadn't expected to be invited either. He offered her an out, but she wasn't going to take it. After all, who would say no to warm waters and wine?

"Hmm, wine you say," Atani mused, reaching for a towel of her own. "Excuse me for a moment."

The elf went behind one of the thicker leaved plants to change. Though she was fully capable of changing behind a towel without being indecent, she did not want to take any chances. Once finished, she wrapped the towel around her body and pulled her long hair into a messy bun. Stepping back out, she too began by dipping her feet into the warm water. It felt identical to the hot springs in Athalran.

"Wow," she said breathlessly. "Did you do this with your magic?"
