Mikajia
It had been a while since he had worked with the Martellos. When he approached Remy, the man he had been dealing with during all his work for the family, the man mentioned how different Mikajia seemed, saying that he appeared much stronger and more capable than ever before. Mikajia gave a little smirk before nodding his head in gratitude, then asked what it was that Remy needed from him. He then explained he was there to hopefully secure a few pieces of very valuable art. From what Mikajia knew, this was simply another means for the family to show off their wealth and power.

Typically, a crime family was judged based on their wealth and influence. The more luxurious their homes were, the more it bespoke of their wealth, and as a result, their reach and power in the criminal world. However, Remy had something else in mind as well. A way to insure he got off with the best pieces at the lowest prices. He spent the next few minutes informing Mikajia that his task was to tamper with the items to be auctioned off. He wanted Mikajia to make his way to the room that stored the items, and switch the values around of some of the most expensive items, with the least.

Remy then handed Mikajia a catalog of the items that were to be auctioned off, informing him that he had already marked some specific items that he wanted Mikajia to make sure he tampered with, then sent him on his way. Mikajia folded the catalog up then nodded before turning and heading towards the room. It didn’t take him too long to find it, despite it not being obviously listed which room housed the items. He was also more than a little disappointed at the lack of security.

Considering this was an auction, and they all knew that at least a few members of some known crime families would be in attendance, Mikajia half expected to see armed guards stationed in damn near every hallway and entry to every room. However, he had only seen a small handful of guards at all, in the entire building so far, and none of them were armed. Not obviously at least. He inwardly rolled his eyes as he wandered down the hall towards the room he needed. Hell, if they were going to make it this easy for him, who was he to complain?

He saw one guard stationed outside of the room, a man of medium stature, and less than impressive features. He also didn’t really seem to be enjoying his station all that much, his eyes kept glancing down at his watch and in the short time he’d seen the man, he had already sighed twice. He was clearly bored out of his mind, and Mikajia honestly couldn’t blame the man. But this also gave him the perfect opportunity. Mikajia strolled up to the man, once he was close enough the man looked at him and asked what he was doing here. There was hardly any hint of suspicion in the man’s voice or face, he almost hated to trick the guy, because he highly doubted his superiors would be pleased with the outcome of this exchange.

Without hesitation Mikajia told the guy that he was there to relieve him. The man was so happy that he almost immediately walked away, he stopped just once to ask if this was really fine, thinking he was supposed to stay there for the entire auction. ”I mean, if you want to stay here and continue standing guard, you’re welcome to. But considering how uneventful things have been, the higher-ups have decided to do some shift changes. They can’t of course send everyone home, but they see no reason to have everyone stay at their posts the whole time. But like I said, if you really want to, I’ll be on my way then.”

”N-no, wait!” The man practically yelled as Mikajia turned to leave, ”Sorry, I was just a bit surprised. Honestly man, I would love nothing else than to leave. It’s so freakin’ boring.” He said with a deadpan stare as he massaged the back of his neck, ”Thanks, I won’t forget it.” He said finally, before quickly leaving his post. Mikajia watched him leave, and once the coast was clear he turned and entered the room.

Once inside the room, he would stop and look around, arching a brow at what he saw. From what Remy was telling him earlier, he only really expected about half the amount of stuff to be in this room versus what there actually was. It was cram packed with all manner of art, ranging from dime store merchandise that had no business in an auction, to items he could scarcely fathom the value of. He didn’t know how long it would be before any other guards might come around, and he didn’t feel like trying to explain why someone who was supposed to be a shift-change guard, was snooping around in the merchandise room. So without further procrastination, he grabbed out the folded catalog from his suit jacket and went to work.

Thankfully, the room seemed to at least be arranged in a fairly easy to understand manner. After only a minute or so in the room, he came to realize that almost every single item to his right were the cheap items, while the majority of the items on his left were the jaw dropping, exorbitantly priced items. He had to blink his eyes a few times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating when he saw a tiny vase, not even a foot tall, priced at almost twenty million jewels.

As it so happened, that was one of the items Remy had already marked in the catalog. Mikajia grabbed the price tag from the vase, and switched it with another vase, but the second one was listed at a much more reasonable twenty thousand jewels. With that done, he scanned through the catalog once more, locating a few more items Remy had marked and then finding them in the room. He took their price tags, both listed in the tens of millions categories, then switched them with somewhat similar items in the far more reasonable ranges.

As Mikajia was in the process of switching the tags for a third set of items, he noticed footsteps approaching the room. Thankfully he had decent hearing and was able to hide behind an absolutely massive mirror leaning up against the wall in the back of the room. Mikajia held a look of bewilderment on his face as he listened to the men, taking note of the fact that neither of them questioned the lack of a guard out in front of the room. This was, after all, the room that singlehandedly housed all of the merchandise for the auction. One would think they would be a bit suspicious about it, but apparently not.

The men grabbed what they needed, grumbling about the weight of the item as they hefted what sounded like a ridiculously heavy chest, and placed it on the cart they used to bring items out onto the stage. Another moment later, the duo left the room. He waited behind the mirror, listening for any signs that anybody else might be approaching. Once he was satisfied that he was alone once more, he stepped out from behind the mirror and continued where he left off.

Mikajia had managed to switch the tags of a few more items before he heard the familiar sound of footsteps once more, as well as wheels of a cart approaching the room again. He quickly ducked back behind the mirror again, grateful for the massive item. It completely hid him from view, and gave him plenty of room, so he didn’t have to try and crouch and hope that all of his clothing was hidden. He’d had to do things like this before and it seriously sucked when someone of his height had to try and hide. Like last time, the duo was in the room only long enough to grab what they needed then left.

He had to repeat this process only once more. After hiding from view a third time, Mikajia felt he had tampered enough to have Remy practically singing his praises. He had made sure to give some of the most valuable items in the room, the absolute cheapest tags. From what Remy had told him, most of the people in attendance that were actually bidding, were novices, and would only judge an item as worthy, based entirely on the price tag. Remy had noticed that none of them aside from a very select few actually understood the true value of the items. It certainly worked out in his favor to have taken a real liking in art. Made it much harder to be swindled, and far too easy to do the swindling.

Satisfied with his progress, Mikajia left the room once the coast was clear again and strolled back out to the atrium. He didn’t have to wait too long to see Remy leaving the atrium. He was among the first two to leave, but Mikajia doubted the other guy had the same kind of success Remy had just had. A very pleased Remy would greet Mikajia after leaving the auction and having some other guards haul his winnings out to the limo. He would thank Mikajia for his efforts once more, saying that he had gotten some absolutely amazing deals on those items thanks to him.

He listed a few items off in particular that he was very pleased with, one of them being an item he hadn’t even marked in the catalog. The man was practically giddy as he thought about how happy his brother would be with the items he’d won. Just before departing, he would hand Mikajia the rest of the money he’d taken with him to the auction. It was more than the usual payment for this kind of job, but the man considered it appropriate seeing as Mikajia had just saved him from having to spend far more than expected. Mikajia nodded his thanks before turning to leave.
