Ellie

WORDS: 331 | Fresh Start

These blasted beasts… Breathing ragged and even the blade in her hand broken, sufficed to say that Ellie Cavallero was not having the best of days, and that seemed largely because of the pest that was flying overhead, rather noisily one might add. Guardsmen and mages around her having a similar experience as a creature with scales and wings and roars that seemed to split the sky hovered above them spewing attacks which seemed like they could easily wipe buildings off the map with a single blast, all that she could do was click her teeth and narrow her gaze as she watched the destruction all around her, and felt so powerless because of it.

My magic might as well be non-existent! Training herself for years and years with both her sword and the mystic arts but right now feeling like she was no more than an idiot child as her blasts of light and flower bounded off its skin like water off a frog's back, all that she seemed to do was make the monster angrier and angrier, and she was not the only one. Soldiers and those like her who had gathered to try and protect the people of this little village throwing everything they had against this menace but achieving absolutely nothing, the town was being raised to the ground around her and all that Ellie could do was curse and look around herself in despair. And that was when she saw it.

Good heavens! The meagre force which had been amassed doing their best to keep the monster busy while the innocents around them fled to safer ground but apparently not everyone escaping, a chill passed through the young huntress as she spotted a small shape stumbling to their knees as the wicked wyvern landed on the ground and howled, and despite the dejection of the moment she knew she had to move with everything she had left. Launching herself forward on legs that seemed to be weighed down with lead and grimacing as she did so, the raven-haired rescuer felt like her form had never been heavier than it was now and pushed herself forward with all the might and magic she could command, and even then didn't know she would arrive in time.

“Look out!” Luckily for her seeming to have just enough quickness to clasp her hand around the clothing of the child and then fling the feeble figure out of the path of certain doom with what was left of her strength and her stamina, it was a relief for Miss Cavallero to see the small shape slumping to the feet of a nearby guard, but unfortunately that moment of pleasure proved short lived due to her situation. Exhausted, utterly spent in fact, and barely able to even lift the shaky arm which held what remained of her sword, she tried not to flinch as she looked into the eyes of this crazed beast and shivered as she saw the sense of malice within them, and then found nothing else to remember.

Brightness erupting around her as the mouth of the monster opened and every effort of memory failing the minx, it seemed that the end had come for the noble soul who set out to make herself a hero, and perhaps had succeeded in one way or another. Great songs would not be sung of her exploits but perhaps a person alive because of who she was and what she did, ultimately, she probably would have considered this a good end all things considered. It was too soon for sure, but at least she did something good with her life, right up until her very last moment…
