It had been a while since Tomoe had last talked to Aegis. To the swordsman, wanderer as he was, life in one place was a fickle thing. More than that, life had been hellish lately. Between a mark on his hand that wouldn't dissipate, Gunter's act of pissing all over a detective's notes and then trying to pocket 'coffee money' off of corpses, and Natsumi burning down an inn by accident?

"We're fucked.", Tomoe muttered under his breath as he walked through the shady streets of the Crimson Quarter.

For a time, Tomoe thought he was the chaotic one; but as fate would have it, they had recruited far worse than him. While he'd mellowed out, the lower ranks were still in their rebellious phases. He couldn't exactly fault Natsumi due to its accidental nature, but Gunter... Gunter was a man who needed an ass-kicking and probably some time behind bars, depending on how much further he'd push things. Penumbral Guard was a guild of law and protection first and foremost, and seeing others not abide by that made him feel as if he was looking in a mirror at the person he was not even a year ago. Well... had he even changed since then? He'd taken to Aegis' words since their time hunting werewolves, and had managed to resist his murderous urges for once during a werewolf hunt of his own. Maybe life could be better. Maybe...

It was as he finished this thought that he arrived at the meeting spot, at a particular corner near the edge of the district lit by a single dimming lamppost. He leaned against it, ensuring his pocket dimension ring was snug around his left ring finger, and waited for his partner on the job. Aegis would undoubtedly show up soon as well, and together they were tasked with busting some kind of smuggling operation going on within the Crimson Quarter. It sounded exciting, and exhilarating - exactly the change of pace Tomoe needed from his daily life of bullshit.

It seemed odd to Aegis that's the people that were granting them this mission didn't have much intel to start with. The good news was that that he found out Tomoe, who just happened to be in the same town, decided to take the mission with him.

There wasn't much information that they got, it just mainly consisted of some less than concrete reports how about smuggling in the area. The actual job was to stop the smuggling and deal with whoever was involved. Well the night was still young, the shadow of the city loomed over making it quite dark except for the lamps and windows into buildings where people were most likely having dinner. While the stone was cobbled and relatively uneven, it was still decent enough for him to walk on. Because of the time and the mission, he tried to keep the noise to a minimum. This was proving slightly difficult due to his armour but he managed to at least muffle it slightly with his cape.

As he arrived to their meeting place, Aegis saw Tomoe leaning up against one of the light posts trying its best in illuminating the darkened city. He waved slightly when coming into view, trying not to startle The Swordsman too bad. "Greetings my friend. Are we ready to begin?". Upon getting closer, he realized that's The Swordsman was looking more anxious than normal. "Is everything all right?"

"Oh boy, you wouldn't believe the days I've had lately."

Tomoe turned to face Aegis after being asked about whether he's okay. He wasn't. He really wasn't after all that had happened in Hosenka lately. Namely, the inclusion of one piece of shit that was pretty much an unforgivable mess. He'd done nothing but cause turmoil, chaos, and bring about the ultimate undoing of Aegis' dream if left unchecked. Those things were perfectly clear to the Joyan, and he didn't know what to do - primarily because the man still got results despite his loose cannon attitude. Tomoe wasn't a very lawful man in the first place, so it fell to Aegis to be the moral anchor in this situation. Perhaps the two should meet in the future? Though if they did, he'd probably see a younger Tomoe in Gunter... and that was not a compliment.

"There's this fucker named Gunter in the guild. Gunter Von Wolf. He's been running around fighting the homeless, getting into bar brawls and pocketing money off of corpses. Thing is, he still gets all his shit done. Based on how we are, I don't think that sets a good precedent though, yeah? I might push the envelope a little from time to time, but this cunt takes the envelope and shoves it up an orphan's ass so he can pull it out after and use the color brown as a stamp.", the Joyan remarked, realizing that perhaps his analogy had gotten carried away by the end but nevertheless refusing to take back a word of it; what had orphans ever done for him, anyway?

Tomoe ruffled his hair like a bird would ruffle feathers, sighing as he stood away from his lean on the lamppost. They had a job to do, and they'd certainly get to it, but while waiting around they were free to talk of matters regarding the basic members - that was what Tomoe thought, anyway. Normally he would be secretive and keep things close to the chest, but regarding a no-name C-rank, he didn't really care. What, was somebody going to eavesdrop to hear about what a bastard Gunter was? It didn't matter, not truly.

"He's been lootin' around Hosenka, too. Skulking and perusing. Rat bastard. If you'd have a talk with him, and maybe even just a single job with the guy you'd see what I mean. One look at him, and you'll see a creature void of any and all empathy."

As he waited with Aegis in the Crimson Quarter, looking for the start of the local gang's operation, he also waited for the skeleton's response to his rant. All Tomoe could hope was that he'd done an adequate job of selling how awful this C-rank member of their guild was, because for once, he needed Aegis to be on the same page as him on something.

Tomoe, in the middle of explaining, got a vision. Not menacing, but perhaps... loving? He saw the flicker of a cloak further down the dimly lit streets of the Crimson Quarter, and a womanly figure cloaked in shadows. Whether it was only him who could see this figure or not didn't matter - that simply meant that he was the only one that was worthy of the sight. With blank eyes, he didn't meet Aegis' gaze and simply moved towards the figure.

"Uh, we'll talk later. I'll see ya some other time, bud."

With that, Tomoe made his way rushing down the alleys, soon fading from view entirely as he twisted and turned through Hosenka itself. The quest? The quest didn't matter for shit compared to following the trail he needed to follow.

"Fuck the quest!", Tomoe shouted aloud as he sprinted away, off into the darkness and away from the view of all others as he dashed through alleyways.

With his speed at sprinting, there was nobody that could keep up with him if he didn't want them to. He had trained to be that way, after all, and nobody would ever prove to be faster than him. Faster than a demigod. Faster than one who would bring about HER resurrection - perhaps? He didn't yet know, but he did know that the love he felt for HER was real. If he continued, there would likely be no turning back; and for that, he could probably be okay with.
