As it turns out, before Jan had arrived in Marigold (or Fiore in general), some kind of storm plagued the city and now there were many areas that needed some 'renovations'. Actually, plain reconstruction. Many buildings were ruined, reduced to nothing but debris, and with the recent revelation that the workers weren't that hyped either (refer to Management Issues for info), it was obvious some outside help was required. Though for people to actually go out of their way and help rebuild the city, they'd have had to be either residents of Marigold (which proved to be a dud as it is), or people with much to gain from the notion. Which is why, Syllas went and recruited a certain Sinese to help with renovations, once again.

"--Come on, let's go!" Wearing a 'safety first' helmet and pointing some direction, Jan stood by the construction site, holding paperwork and blueprints in his hands. He's been in this kind of mission before, and just like last time, he didn't have much intention to dirty his hands in the manual task. This was quite similar to something that happened in Hargeon before; with the workers grumbling as they wondered 'who this stuck-up boy think he is', for not actually doing any heavy lifting. However, his instructions and directioning proved efficient, as was his manpower handling. Experience in management work gave him the edge, the qualification to assume such a role despite the request being centered differently.

It worked great for the first building, as for a few days' time, the workers got used to the young Sinese' instructions, his attitude and his efficiency. Not to brag, but it happened to be a strong trait in his work moral. The issue came when, the citizen in charge of overseeing the building process, showed up to inform that he'd be relieved of management duty starting the next day. "Huh? But why??" He'd obviously protested, but if this was what Syllas wanted, he really couldn't say much, right...? He was getting paid, after all...

Smack. Smack. Hold the nail, hit it properly. Nail the plank to the other. Due to some development, Jan was now relegated to proper manual labor, having to remove his overly hot top due to sweat, not wanting it to get drenched or remotely dirtied. Grumbling to himself, frowning deeply as he held the few nails he was allowed between his teeth, bringing down the hammer again and again on a certain nail; then moving to another corner of the plank. As opposed to his usual routine, this time someone else was doing the yelling. Screaming to hasten his work, much to his dismay. "I get it, okay!!" He yelled back, angrily. Clearly the young boy was not the type to do this kind of work, despite proving quite good at handling materials.

It didn't take much time before he was moved to a different building in the city, stationed there as a manual worker as well. This time though, they recognzied the young man's fine build enough to relegate him to, surprise surprise, heavy lifting. Jan was to carry around large beams of wood with his fellow workmates, and suffer through the heavy load to the best of his ability. The biggest challenge in this type of work, was not complaining too much.

Lunch breaks, however, were the simple solace in this. Fortunately, he's already gotten himself familiar with some of the workers due to several previous requests, and turns out these guys were in charge of this part of the city as well. In the two days he was stationed there, Jan found himself drooping down to the same motivation work level as the others, prolonging his lunch break to an awfully long time; drinking coffee with "his boys", eating an improvised sandwich and then going to make another, if just to stall for time. It's a wonder there was any progress made on the second station, despite the Sinese' ever-declining willingness to work.

In due time, Jan was moved away from that area as well, to the final building he'd be working on. He knew, not just because the quest details listed so, but also because the citizen apparently in charge of renovation work, informed the young mage that this would be as far as he'd go. Trying not to apply this message to the fact he almost refused to work on two occasions, the young Sinese steeled his mind and got to work with the rest of the construcion workers on the last one.

This one, he found much more motivation to aid in. Not just nail-hammering, but also planning. A mixture of sorts, of both of his 'professions', or rather those he got to experience in this run. At one point, he was even allowed to handle the vehicles, dabbing his hand for the first time with the process of making concrete and familiarizing with the plans behind it, not just in theory but in actual practice. He'd lie if he said this wasn't interesting, at the very least. Three days, for a total of two weeks of total work, is all it took until Jan was laid off the hook; released back to his normal lifestyle.

"So what do you make of this?" The citizen in charge asked, taking the guild wizard for a short interview on the day of discharge. He may have disliked the man at first for relieving him of his management position (assumed position anyway), but over the course of these two weeks he grew fond of him. Or just, acknowledging the man was doing his job. Honestly, it wasn't too bad once he got used to the idea, or once he stopped complaining about it. Never in his life did the Sinese think he'd find manual labor to be actually enjoyable, especially considering his avertness from pain. And boy, did this request involve a lot of physical endurance.

Between constantly carrying wooden beams, sawing them to fit proper size, nailing planks, handling small steel pieces and even undoing some unpolished work, one would think this was a terrible profession to take. And yet, Jan would lie if he said he didn't at least take some interest in the full process, eventually. Grabbing his pay after a long time's work, the young Blue Pegasus mage left, wondering what the end result for these destroyed buildings would look like.
