Another morning another day to the piers. Truly this was starting to get a little stale. Kenzo had learned that Port Astera was a place full of mysteries truly, but if he was being honest with himself, it was starting to get a little too stale. Since the port had never been a major city of recognized for anything in particular, the effects of a budding town could be observed within the place. Sure, the blue haired mercenary that whined about this was actually interested in the many beasts that he had come to learn that lived at the sea near the coast. They were some of the most dangerous monsters he had encountered thus far in the country. However, even this was starting to get old, so the swordsman decided that he would be leaving the place soon. Either way, he still had enough fuel inside him for yet another monster hunting quest. With such thoughts in mind, the male made his way through the now familiar road that led straight from his inn and all the way into the piers of Astera.

”Sup Kin, found anything interesting?” Kenzo said at his partner that had just arrived from the sky. The winged lemur and himself had established quite a profitable relationship ever since he found him in the cliffs of Astera. Kin, as the warrior had decided to name him, was a harmless monster known as a winged lemur. In exchange for cookies and other treats, the small mammal usually found some treasures or valuable things for Kenzo. As he landed on his shoulder, the little fella opened his fluffy paws to reveal a large pink pearl. With a chuckle, Kenzo took the pearl as he gave him a cookie in return.

”What kind of nose have you got?”

As Kin munched and nommed at the chocolate chips cookie while resting on Kenzo’s shoulder, the two of them eventually made it to the coast. ”Hello Kenzo! One more day of fishing?” The woman from the inn at the corner waved her hand as he passed by. ”Hey Rhea! Good morning. Yeah, you know the drill after all” The two of them exchanged a friendly smile as he passed the front of the place. She was the wife and owner of Kenzo’s favorite bar in the city; for the last couple of weeks that he had spent in Astera, the male had visited the place almost every day, even befriending her husband and co-owner Raoul. A couple of days prior, the Advent World warrior had even saved the male’s ass after falling in a siren’s song curse.

”Good day mister. Anything going awry at the sea today?” Kenzo asked an old lone man sitting on the edge of the pier, naked feet hanging towards the sea. ”Ah, it is you again. Yes.. You… uhm. Ezio right?”

”Kenzo you old fart, the sun is really turning you senile after all” He replied with an annoyed tone. Truth be told, the old fisherman had never gotten his name correctly. By now, the male was pretty suspicious on whether it actually was on purpose or not.

”Oww!! What the hell are you doing you stupid mut?! Let go of it!!” Kenzo was brought out of his thoughts by the sound of the man screaming and wrestling with Kin. The little mammal had jumped off from the swordsman’s shoulder and flied all the way to the end of his line in the water. Swiftly, it managed to snatch the bait away from the hook. On his way back, he was caught by the grandpa.

As the old fisherman struggled to get his bait back from the Winged Lemur, Kenzo couldn’t help but let out a light scoff at the balding man. ”Let him go Kin, I’ll get you something better when we get back to the inn.” Upon hearing the promise made to him, it released the bait into the fisher’s hat. The still alive worm wiggled as it tried to make its escape back to the ground before being snatched by a pair of rugged fingers. ”Hmph can’t believe someone actually domesticated one of those winged devils. They bring no good at all… You should dispose of it before it becomes a plague.” It was obvious the master fisherman’s ego had been hurt by his small battle with the animal.

”Eeeither way… Do you have a job for me or not?” Kenzo was starting to lose his patience by now. ”Hmmmm… cheeky like the rest of them. Your generation doesn’t know the word patience right?” the old man glared at the Bellan. ”Aalright. I must say I actually have something for you. It seems that the damn beasts you and the other guy Moe have been killing attracted their natural prey.” ”Does this old fart mean Noel?” The mercenary thought to himself after hearing the name Moe. However, he soon let go of the idea as he listened to the rest of his speech.

”However, this one is surprisingly small in size. It must be part of the scout party. Some fishermen have reported to see a sea Kaiju near the coasts of Astera. You know the drill right?” Kenzo nodded as he grabbed the piece of parchment from the old man. After receiving the rest of his instructions, the Advent World male left the place and walked his way to the boat.

”Yes yes… I’m sorry about it for the tenth time, I already gave you money to even buy a new boat so cut this out.” The merc’s annoyed tone was completely palpable on his voice. ”Kenzo I SWEAR… That if you come back and this boat has another single scratch, you’ll have to go and hunt for the next monster by swimming!” An index finger belonging to the owner of the boat furiously swung up and down as it threatened Kenzo. The man speaking was someone the Bellan swordsman had become acquainted to. He was the grandson of the master fisherman that gave quests to Kenzo. Since he didn’t have a boat to go to the seas and the fights were most of the times too dangerous for someone else to tag alone, the merc had been borrowing Luc’s boat so far. Unluckily, the last time Kenzo had rode the boat he had fallen asleep while he drove near a coral reef. Due to this mishap, the whole underside of the boat had been scratched and some small holes had formed on the shell. Obviously, the male never told him the truth. As far as Luc knew, the damage had been done while fighting off against one of the numerous Kraken that had appeared near the port.

”Al riiight…. Don’t worry! I’ve got you this time man. Here, take a beer so you can cool a bit.” The male offered one from his cooler at the excited dude. ”Just calm down, I’ll be back before you can even finish drinking that one” he said with a wink.

Truth be told, there was nothing he’d like more than precisely that. He was rather sick of fighting against sea monsters. There was never firm footing, and most of their corpses smelled awful.

Either way, the male had promised himself this was one of the last times he’d take a job like this. He had arrived at the port due to important guild business. Advent World and Phoenix Feather were to negotiate the way the future of Western Fiore. Both Finn and Kazimir had yet to reach an agreement, so he had been stationed in town while they finished discussing all of the terms. Hopefully, they’d be done soon with it so he could regain his freedom to travel through the country.

As he finished drinking the second beer he had brought along, the mercenary noticed a disturbance in the water. Quickly turning off the boat’s engine, the male looked in the distance to see if he had finally arrived at the prey’s location. As he heard a soft moan from Kin, the male discovered the place. ”Praise the heavens…” A couple hundred meters away from where he’d stopped, the so called Kaiju moved towards him. It was a gigantic beast; way bigger than the Kraken he’d fought so far. It was weird that the old fisherman had called it small for its breed. However, Kenzo’s gratitude was not only for finding the monster. Rather, it was the tiny inlet standing between the two of them that meant he wouldn’t have to be fighting while trying to maintain balance in the scrawny borrowed boat.

Hopping out of his ride, the merc took a beer with him as he awaited the Kaiju to get closer. He had already garnered its attention, so it was only a matter of time. As he fired after spell at the warrior, Kenzo casually dispelled it with a strike of Masamune as he kept drinking his beer. This in turn enraged the beast more and more. When the two of them finally clashed, the result was one sided. Without breaking a sweat, the beast’s head fell with a single clean cut. It had expended most of its magic before it even arrived near Kenzo. The Kaiju had been simply hard countered this time.

With the trophy firmly secured to the boat with a rope, Kenzo made his way back to the port and collected his reward for the day.
