Even the beasts that go bump in the night need a rest, and they claim Aldenwald as their home. Bearing an assortment of magic wielders, magical races, and simple bandits, Aldenwald lays home to those of the dark side of Fiore whom Dahlia's growth into a city drove away. They wish mainly to be left alone, and have long since accepted that any unifying force within Dahlia is now long gone. They, like all those on the dark side of life, are driven primarily by personal gain. The lengths they will go to benefit themselves may be truly extraordinary, but what could be offered to Vampires and Werewolves, criminals and dark sorcerers, that they do not already have?

An eerie silence crept through the streets of Dahlia at night; not a single soul could be found wandering the through the creepy alleys now, and what little population was left within the city gates made sure to flee into the safety of their homes come nightfall. Dahlia was unlike anything Nuala had ever seen – and, albeit some initial reluctance, she loved every bit of it. Wicked creatures haunted the woodlands bordering the city and Aldenwald was in many ways the root of all evil.

The forest isolated Dahlia from the rest of the country and simultaneously bordered others; the town was located at the very east of Fiore and it was because of Aldenwald, that travelers rarely chose to come by. Nuala – being a monster in the eye of many humans herself – had gone deeply, but not too deeply, into the forest a few times herself already only to discover that the stories of ghostly hauntings, vampire lairs and entire werewolf packs existing deep within the woods were indeed true. They all existed and it seemed as though they were all here.

Perhaps that was why Kaiser had chosen her for this task.

Nuala was headed for the woodlands now. She was alone, not that she needed companionship anyways, and her enhanced eyesight allowed her to see perfectly in the dark, as if it were day. Still, Aldenwald was almost supernaturally dense and it appeared as if there was a constant mist hovering over the ground and blurring any mortals vision, which made this the perfect hunting ground for monsters after all. Much to the chagrin of many vile creatures now creeping through thicket and stalking the Voidling, the woman remained entirely unbothered by that. If needed, she could become a weapon strong enough to defeat whatever lay in hiding.

But she hadn’t come here today to pick a fight. She had come here today to start negotiations with the monsters that called this place their home.

The otherwise bright colours of Aldenwald’s flora had turned steel and stale under the silver light of the moon. Nuala marched down the forest trail without hesitation and slowly but surely, with every step deeper into the woods, the woman’s skin began to change; dark, armour like substance spread across her body like a second skin until it covered all of her, but her face. The Voidling’s marks were now glowing in the dark, alerting everyone and everything that she was present. Nuala had been hunted and hunting for decades and she was an experienced predator; her aura of confidence spoke for itself and yet not everyone was willing to take the hint.

From the darkness, she heard some sort of shriek intended to be a battle cry followed by a blazing lightning bolt that was aimed straight at her, a bolt that Nuala dodged with relative ease. She had heard the dark wizard following her around for a solid five minutes and although he must have missed it somehow, his footsteps were heavy and quite distinguishable – especially within a close distance.

Without saying as much as a single word, the Voidling turned around and leaped into the darkness, tearing the wizard down to the ground. With her right hand firmly grasping his face and pressing his skull into the dirt, the woman gave him a long look, wondering what benefits he was hoping to gain from attacking her. She could only think of none. “Your assembly of whores will die out very soon. No one rules over Aldenwald, no one!” he stuttered and it was now that Nuala noticed that the dark wizard was of age. “So this is what this is about?” The Voidling felt the urge to roll her eyes and shake her head, but decided to crush his skull instead. “May the splattering of this idiot's brain be a lesson to those who intend to do something similar tonight. Do not cross me and I will let you will live.” There was no response from the depths of the woods, but it was safe to assume that they understood.

Nuala continued her journey without hesitation. She was headed for a forest clearing where she spotted a group of vampires earlier during the month and meeting them – and all the other lowlives that were hiding here – was her mission for the night. Kaiser had tasked each of them with doing their part in expanding the guild’s influence across Dahlia City. This included conquering each and every part of it; to make the civilians surrender and accept their rule was equally important as gaining the trust of the beasts living in Aldenwald. If they wanted to be safe from the wrath and fire power that hid within Kaiser Bo and Venus Rosé, each who represented a one man army all on their own, they had to agree to the terms and conditions that the Matriarch of Daeva Eye had decided on.

Nuala did expect this to go rather smoothly. Vampyres and Lycans were proud, but not stupid. Once they realized that a mere two members of Daeva Eye could level the entirety of Aldenwald, they would have no choice but to surrender to Kaiser’s reign. And it wasn’t as though the vampire queen intended on being a dreadful leader that made bad decisions and neglected the common folk – it was quite the opposite, actually. Daeva Eye strived for three things: order, discipline and power.

If they agreed to be loyal and unproblematic, it would certainly all be of worth for them as well. Nuala could only assume that word had gone around long before her arrival, because once the woman entered the forest clearing there was already a group of vampires waiting for her. “I suppose you know why I’m here,” said Nuala while approaching a male who appeared to be the leader. “It costs you nothing to simply leave us alone,” he responded and although she hated to admit it, his gruesome voice sent shivers down her spine. His kind were different from the vampires she had met before, different from Kaiser. They were feral.

“And it will cost you everything if you turn this generous offer down,” the Voidling responded and handed him a scroll of paper that bore the guild insignia of Daeva Eye – the all seeing eye. “Do not risk the worthless lives of your kind, agree to this arrangement and we will allow you to continue your pointless existence for yet another few decades if that is what you wish to do.” Disdain laced her words, but the vampire lord didn’t appear to be offended. “It’s decided then.” He took the scroll and gave it to one of his thralls.

“Because of who she is, she will know and understand our needs. Because of who she is, we can accept this treaty.”

Having a vampire as their guild’s leader certainly made things easier when dealing with the undead.

The Lycans were next. Werewolves, unlike the majority of vampires, lived in larger packs and represented a threat that couldn’t be underestimated – they were extremely powerful and could tear bodies into pieces with mere physical strength. The Voidling knew that their kind wasn’t exactly fond of vampires, but since they coexisted within the same forest, she hoped that they would prove to be equally easy to handle.

In order to speak to them, Nuala had to find their pack. This proved to be a much easier task than initially expected, since werewolves were not only large and impossible to overlook, but incredibly noisy. Nuala, who was able to move around soundlessly, simply followed the howls until she found their breeding grounds. She wasn’t shocked to find out what a bloody mess everything was and for a moment she even felt bad for Dahlia’s villagers because by the amount of blood surrounding the corpses that were spread across the area, she was able to tell that the majority of them had been alive when being devoured by these beasts.

Just like the vampires previously, the werewolf pack had been expecting her. Nuala knew that they couldn’t hear her, but they could smell her just fine – an ability that vampires did not have, from what she knew. It made these beasts all the more terrifying.

Right now, they all appeared to her in their human form, much to Nuala’s relief. They had gathered around a fireplace and when the woman stepped outside the darkness and into the scenery, the man who she guessed was the Alpha rose to his feet and aimed his gaze directly at her. He was tall, much taller than any human should be and muscles and scars graced his naked body. His skin was tan and he had thick, black hair and sharp golden eyes. If the situation wasn’t so grim, she might have been attracted to him.

“I am to offer you a treaty in the name of Kaiser Bo, Matriarch of the Daeva Eye mages guild – and I highly suggest that you take it, if you wish for your pack to live and not be exiled from these lands. We are seizing Dahlia and while the city is under our guild’s command, you have permission to continue existing here for as long as you wish, so long as you agree to our conditions.”

Nuala pulled out yet another scroll of paper bearing the symbol of Daeva Eye’s insignia. A boy, who was incredibly large for his apparent young age, stood up and took the scroll from her hands to bring it to his Alpha. “Your breed is strong, but you do not stand a chance against the force of magic that awaits you, should you decline this offer. What a waste it would be, especially for your young.” She nodded towards the boy, who had to be the Alpha’s son. The werewolf leader said nothing for a long time, but she could tell that he had made his decision long before her arrival. A few more moments passed before he finally nodded in agreement.

“I accept this arrangement. What about the bandits and guildless mages living within these woods?”

Nuala quickly waved her hand in a dismissive manner. “Eat them or leave them be, it’s for you to decide. As long as you keep them under control and don’t let them near the city, I don’t care. That’s all.” With that being done, the Voidling turned on her heel and departed from the werewolf’s den. She was going to return to the guild now to bring Kaiser the good news – surely their Mistress would be thrilled to hear that Aldenwald was now under their control as well.
