Coda was starting to suffer from the hot weather too. Her feathers, which were wide and thin in order to let air currents pass through, couldn’t protect her from the heatwaves that basked into the land like waves in the sea. Daiko didn’t feel too much of a hostility from the sun today, but it was the longest day on earth according to the calendar. That meant that the sun was up in the sky for the longest time in the year, and up to… what, 20 hours of today’s 24 hours was dedicated to sunlight? No, wait, Daiko had to fact-check that, and since they found themselves at West Fiore, which was closer to sub-tropic climate than pure tropic climate, then that also meant that it would be different in the amount of sun-hours. For instance, the amount of hours didn’t really change down in Hargeon Town where the sun was up summer and winter. Daiko had never checked how many sun-hours that Worth Woodsea or Orchidia Town had on this day, but that must have also been a different amount from here. According to some people, the amount of sun-hours here was 19 hours, which was a rather generous amount of hours to Daiko - when you take in account that it was supposed to be the ‘longest day in the year’. It meant that the sun was down for 5 hours… a satisfying amount of sleep for those who needed the night to shelter them from the usage of energy and invite them to slumber.

But today, he wasn’t going to sleep. He was in a cafe and enjoying his muffin in peace, sheltered by the roof and by the moon’s pleasant glows. You probably didn’t expect the longest day on earth to start in the middle of the night, eh? Well, this place was only open at night for some reason, and to start off the solstice, Daiko felt a little nocturnal. Damn, their muffins were good…

Kai, Káilètte, Arisa, Kuriana and now Kairisa. The list felt like a shopping list as things kept getting added to it. The nickname(s) were forevermore tiresome as she didn't know what name to identify herself as, but for now it was her appearance that made people know her. Her silver moon eyes gazed at the mirror while slowly applying maroon lipstick on. She could feel the smooth materialistic items go against her soft plump lips. As she looked at the mirror she swore her eyes flicked a golden color, of those 'other' eyes. There was truly no logic behind this, or anything for that matter.

Her hand flung to the side to throw the lipstick away once she was done. Swiftly twisting her hip away from the mirror she walked towards her dresser to put on a pair of leather shorts and a white shirt. To cover the shoulders, she wore a leather jacket with a flower of white inside of a skull's mouth at her left breast side. Putting on some hiking boots after her socks, she left the building. It was night time and a perfect time for some 'monster hunting'.

The air smelled like sea salt as the sea was filled with salt. It made her not want to swim in it due to the fact that it'll most likely hurt her eyes and make her hair feel like dry hay. The air wasn't moist enough as she wasn't staying anywhere near the docks after last night. As she walked, her hand pressed on the cafe door to meet up with her partner, who turns out to be Daiko.

''Well, isn't this a surprise.'' She lastly spoke as she let the door close behind her. It was quite interesting to keep meeting up with people she knew for... well awhile. Was he her partner or was he just here for some muffins. 'Quite... At least it's not some random stranger.' A soft whisper moaned within her mind as she slowly went to the chair in front of Daiko and sat down gently.

Every bite of the muffin revealed things to him. The surface was dry and dark-brown from the cocoa and baking progress that made it a different texture compared to the contents inside of it that were softer and full of airy caves. They kind of gave the muffin a ‘sponge-like’ appearance to it, but that didn’t lower its precious taste in any way. Since this was stable food that Daiko was able to eat without crocodile stomach returning again, he took the chance wherever he went - café, restaurant or corner shop - to buy a muffin and just devour it with joy. Coda, on the other hand, was prohibited from eating this since her bird stomach can’t digest cocoa for some reason. She was a raptor, not a parrot. Anatomies like that held great importance in matters like this one, for while Coda couldn’t enjoy the delicious chocolate muffin’s tastiness, Daiko couldn’t digest… h-he couldn’t digest the uh… uhm…

Now that he thought about it, most of what Coda ate - slain prey such as rats, rabbits, boars, snakes and other birds - were edible by the Fire Mage himself. What a strange thing, since it wasn’t exactly normal for a human male to eat such things on a regular basis - especially not every day and so liberally as Daiko did it.

His ear twitched by the voice of a familiar woman entering the café. Yes, she was one of those huma- uh, people who hadn’t been forced to adapt to such primal food chains. She was, fair to say, exalted in that way… in her own, unique way that Daiko knew some about. Smiling, he greeted: “W-Woah, haven’t seen you in a whi-“ Coda took the word and cut him short with a loud shriek and flapping wings of happiness.

“C-Coda, calm down! I know, I know, we’ve missed her, but she was like busy and all…” he ensured the excited armful of plumage, “I-I’m not the only one up at night?”

The bird started to flap their wings as she was excited to see her. She almost forgot how long she actually knew them, or Arisa has known them. Sometimes she forgets that she's two people and the memories, the feelings were shared. All of this made her feel like she was going insane and perhaps that was Kuriana's intentions, to become just like her. Was it going to end up like that though? Her eyes spied some pie that was next to some cookies decorated like the sky. Was she high from life? The cafe smelled like sugar cookies that were ready to be frosted. It was a sugar heaven ready for some kid to get high on. Maybe this was why the cafe was open during the night.

Her right hand lifted to get the counterman's attention and ordered a chicken garden salad with tons. This sure was filled with sweets, but she didn't have a sweet tooth at this instance. After the salad, she also ordered a smoothie. Her attention finally went back to Daiko who was talking to their bird which caused Kairisa's right corner lips to curve. ''I assumed you were here for some mission, but if not. I have time to chat.''. She wanted to start of casual as it was nice to be 'casual' here and there. ''How have you been?'' She wondered curious as she wondered about somethings she found out a month of so ago. Kai asked him if he knew her from some other time and she believed the answer was no, but she found out otherwise. Arisa and him were friends before Kai knew him, but why lie about something like that?

Her eyes looked at the bird who was the same bird that was with him when Arisa was herself. There was no doubt about it, he was the same person. The silver moons searched him as she waited for an answer and for her food/drink that was being prepared currently. She could taste the sweet nectar of the fruits already.

”Ah, I’ve been doing just fine lately,” Daiko replied before taking another big bite off his muffin. He was here on impulse as a result of not wanting to sleep tonight, but he didn’t hear about any mission. It seemed that Kai was on one, but she had time to chit-chat. “I really thought that I’ve visited every corner of Fiore by now. Then Astera pops in out of nowhere… I couldn’t help myself, especially with what I’ve heard,” he explained his reason to be in this Greek-like, marble-built, tree-poor coast town in the first place, “… The attack on Orchidia. People have been seeing the same signs leading up to it here in Astera too; for instance, some cultist who spoiled all the plans for us.” He took another chunk of his muffin in deep thought about this occurrence. Obviously, he didn’t want any assault on Astera akin to the one in Orchidia, but he felt so under-prepared. It was just… he didn’t know where this portal was going to pop up, or even where that cultist had his base. Since he was found in public, who knew where the rest were. At least, many knights were on the search to prevent the worst.

“… I also found out-“ he spoke up suddenly, “-about my magic. Remember when I transformed into a chicken-human-hybrid? Apparently, it’s a Takeover Magic that I possess, now…” He lifted up his hand and inspected it with Coda’s large, curious eye balls aiming at it. “I can channel the power of a phoenix. An actual phoenix… it would be way cooler if I didn’t have so much trouble getting in contact with it! It’s as if it tries to avoid me at all costs or something!” He messed his own hair with his hands in deep annoyance over his issues with his Takeover Magic, for true mastery over such a magic would be to cooperate with the beast inside of you… yet, where was the bird of fire who was supposed to help him become a better wizard?!

He rested his head on his arms on the table and sulked his worries away.

Her mind couldn't help but think of other things that wasn't currently happening. She has yet to find Odin in this large utopia that was soon to be nothing. Kairisa watched as her food was arriving with her drink. With the clink of her glass hit the table she tilted her head to look up at the waitress and nodded, ''Thank you.''. A small smile smeared on her fake face as she replied, ''No problem.''. It was a simple response, a response that made it obvious the person just wanted to get her shift done and over with. Once that was over Kai looked back at Daiko and his bird. Grabbing her drink with her pinky out, she sipped on the fruity liquid. It tasted like a vacation at some exotic beach that wasn't some normal beach in some place like Hargeon.

The mix of pineapple, strawberry and mango with some electrolytes. It was amazing and soothing for her throat. The food has yet to be touched. ''Phoenix huh? That seems more exciting than just normal elemental magic.''. She on the other hand had normal light magic. Sure it didn't bound her to specific things, but at the same time she wasn't allowed to use it to it's full potential. Sipping on more of her smoothie she wondered on what Alisa was doing at this time now as she hasn't seen her in forever. Perhaps she'll write a letter to her so they could meet again. The food, now the food was elegant as each leaf was freshly green. The chicken was grilled and washed afterwards. For the peak of it all, croutons. With out all of it together the salad would be non-worthy of her eating it. Each stab was as if she was slowly stabbing into someone's soul as she watched it. Her tongue licked her lips as she gazed hungrily at it. ''So is that a no with you being apart of this mission? I was suppose to give out all information to whomever I was meeting here.'' She informed him before taking a bite of her food and looked up at him.

He lifted up his head and breathed in to prepare a long sigh. It couldn’t be helped, could it? He would have to work with this issue with his magic on his own, somehow… since it was his magic and all, he believed that he could find his own, unique way of utilizing the phoenix’ powers without having to meet it eye to eye if it really wanted to avoid him. Then again, what had he ever done to anger such a benevolent creature? Phoenixes were friendly, not wrathful and proud as annoying dragons or anything alike them. And to think that he finally got the chance to meet one just to hit the dust with this revelation… it was sickeningly irritating.

Kai had ordered something finer, no doubt. Obviously, given her different upbringing, she would… wait, he didn’t even know about her childhood. How was he going to assume such thing? Anyway, she emphasized on his Phoenix Magic that would put him apart from ordinary elemental magic users. She was a light mage as far as he remembered, but even she had the opportunity and potential to gain new powers. If he could do it by accident, then she could do it at will. “I-I’m sure that you’ll gain an awesome and powerful magic, too! I didn’t ask for a Phoenix Magic myself, so I think it was just accidental… i-it’s probably easier than you think.” No, really, he barely did anything in order to accomplish this willingly.

A mission, eh? Things started to look like the good old days again. “You know I’m game, Kái,” he responded proudly, “But I don’t think I got any requests lately… I mean, it’s a yes. Yes! Are we going to capture another murderer on the streets this time, or is some stray cheetah on the run?”
