Ace Brookes

Ace had been at the hospital for around an hour now, since he’d been here for getting his wounds treated. That training session to master his couple new spells was truly very intense for the young mage; which he loved. The thrill of it was just so enticing that the adrenaline rush he got out of it had numbed his pain for the remaining of yesterday, just enough for him to make it through the night and get to the hospital to get his minor wounds treated.

“Hold it firmly for about ten to fifteen minutes at a time, and repeat the cycle five times a day at most. You should be fine after that” the nurse had stated as she showed Ace what he had to do. “Any more questions before you head off for a good rest?” she asked before letting the boy off. Just as he was about to answer her, he’d overhear the second nurse in a panic, “No, no, they’ve been here for a week now and it keeps on intensifying… Father Jerad already said he knows how to help, we’re sending him off to the church as per his request… We just need an escort…” She walked away slowly as her voice started to fade lower and lower. The first nurse assumed Ace had nothing to say and finished off saying “Alright then, have a good day young man.” Ace then spoke up, “Actually, I could escort the group of patients. The inn I’m staying in at the moment is very close to Father Jerad’s church.” The nurse smiled warmly after a brief second of thinking, “We’d need someone from the Rune Knights to act as an escort.” Ace, with the knot in his brow as usual took out his Rune Knights’ Pendant and proved his identity to the nurse with the glowing royal blue relic that matched his tattoo on his left ear lobe. “I’d be up for it.” He emphasized once again and this time really got the nurse thinking. “I’ll be right back.” She said as she dashed back to talk to her other nurse about the offer the young mage has proposed to her.

A few seconds later, the two nurses came rushing back in gratitude to the young mage for his offer. “Are you sure you know which church it is?” The second nurse asked in confirmation. Ace nodded and reassured the lady once more by flashing his pendant. She rushed back in to get the patients and some paperwork for Ace to sign in confirmation of his escort role, and then contacted father Jerad to relay the information to him.

A group of patients were then introduced to Ace and were told of the young Rune Knight’s identity and where he was taking them. The hospital reassured the patients that father Jerad was to be trusted and that he has seen cases like theirs previously and that he was well aware of how to treat it. Ace nodded at the nurses whom had accepted his offer and was already on his way to the church.

Ace Brookes

The young gas mage was smart and alert, so he made sure to count the number of patients before their journey began just to make sure he loses none of them on the way. It was no difficult task for the apprentice as he took only main roads to escort the bunch safely to father Jerad’s church. He stopped at the church’s steps once more to make sure everyone was here and guided them inside the grand building.

“Ahh, you’re here already! How convenient. I’d expected you to take your time on the way.” Father Jerad said as he greeted the young mage and his company. “So you must be the Rune Knight if I’m not mistaken” he then stated. The young boy nodded in approval as he proceeded to show father Jerad his Rune Knight’s pendant in confirmation of his identity. The young gas mage knew not to flash his relic in front of anyone he crossed paths with, but sometimes it was necessary to retain peoples’ trust and reassure them that the kid standing in front of them was really who he claims to be. Father Jerad paused for a second and looked at Ace, “Come to think of it, I might need you for another little job. None of my helpers are in today as it’s their day off, and I need to stay back and take care of the patients. That leaves practically no one to go out into the east forest and get the necessary ingredient.” Ace looked around at the patients and said “Yeah sure I’ll be up for it.” Father Jerad reassured Ace that he would get a reward for his hard work like any other paying job. The gas mage wasn’t too sure if he deserved a reward for going into the east forest looking for a shrub, but then again he’d have to see how difficult his task would prove to be.

And so he set off on his journey on the hunt for the Blessia Flower as described in detail by father Jerad. The gas mage wandered deep into the forest in search of these shrubs where the small delicate flowers grew. Surprisingly it proved to be no easy task for the young mage. He did in fact have a keen eye for detail, but the variety of species scattered across the forest floor was too much to keep up with. Eventually, he came across the secret ingredient to father Jerad’s cure. It was indeed as delicate as he’d described. Ace carefully reached in to collect the flower and realized that little needle-like thorns were protecting the flower from any harm. Cautiously, the mage avoided the tiny spikes and began to pluck off as many of the little flowers as he can come across. There was just way too many of them simply sprouting under the shade of a huge bulky tree. Still, Ace went through the tedious task of picking as many as he can to save himself the hassle of making two trips to the treacherous ends of this forest.

He returned to father Jerad with as many of the Blessia Flowers that his hands can carry without damaging any of them. Father Jerad was very pleased to see the amount of flowers Ace had brought back and so thanked the young boy by insisting that he takes his jewels as a reward. “A job is a job” said father Jerad. Ace thanked the man and reassured the patients that they are in safe hands before heading back out to his inn.
