Nestor

Personal

Name: Nestor Proga

Age: 24.

Gender: Male.

Sexuality: Homosexual.

Class: Overseer.

Rank: D-rank.

Guild: Guildless.

Tattoo: Crook of his left knee. Stenciled outline rather than filled, black.

Face: Mushishi's Ginko.

Appearance

Height: 5'9.

Weight: 153lb.

Hair: White.

Eyes: Cerulean.

Overall: For a man that's supposed to be in the prime years of his life, Nestor doesn't look very....ship-shape. Even for his own rather unassuming height, he manages to be lanky, with no impressive muscle mass on him, much less toning. He prefers clothes that have a mix of usability and comfort, opting for a not-tight, but not-baggy semi-formal shirt and some slacks. He dons a duster most of the time, save for the occasions he wears a sweater in place of his normal fare. He has a pair of gloves, though they've rarely seen any use. Yet.

He possesses a fairly solid jawline and a broad chin, leading up to his bangs, slightly framing the side of his face as they shaggily rest over his forehead and, at times, one of his eyes - perhaps an indicator of his outlook. He doesn't possess dark circles, but some remnants of bags under his eyes come and go as his impassioned states of study do. His skin is somewhere between olive and fair, his natural color darkening over time with his constant travels. His voice is, often-times, deadpan, though not monotone. It's in the lower tenor range, very slightly raspy due to his old habit, but mostly airy, as if a voiced whisper.

He's rarely seen without something in his mouth or in his hand, 'twixt two of his fingers. Merely the sensation of holding it helps with the withdrawal symptoms.

Extra: None.

Personality

Personality:  Nestor gives off an odd combination of enigmatic and approachable vibes. Despite his lack of friends growing up, he has the capacity to be open and even jocular with those he's comfortable around. Because of his own beliefs, he's not quiet because he feels uncomfortable doing so, but rather waits until his words are actually weighted, whether by the flow of conversation or the merit of their content. He has a pervading sense of humility, acknowledging his relative powerlessness in the world, even given his gift of magical aptitude.

As a symptom of this, he can't seem to form much of an ego, disregarding most, if not all, negative comments meant only to harm. There is no such thing as objective morality in Nestor's eyes; there are only conflicts of interest or shared interests. Despite his lack of pressing conflicts in the present and past, he's taken a vow that he wouldn't irreparably harm anyone during his own travels and quest for knowledge. That is - he would also do the repairing as well.

He has a wide vocabulary, and puts it to use in strange ways, using 'figures of speech' that he, in a running gag to himself, claims are commonplace. He has a various number of other quirks that would be too tedious to list.

Likes:

  • Silence. For Nestor, the absence of sound - though perhaps not all - is a sort of numen to him. It's an unseen thing, a feeling that washes over him when the chatter and the unnecessary noise subsides.

  • The Expanse. It's mind-boggling to think of the expanse that lies beyond the land we call our 'world', "The World". That feeling of smallness he gets when contemplating that, or even when overlooking a great sea, or a mountain valley - that's the feeling of comfort. That no matter what, he's so very small.

  • Logic. | Absurd. Nestor believes that invisible rules govern the world, even if humans were the ones to give them shape and sound with words. Yet, he knows that for every rule there is an exception. While he wiles away his time researching theories and writing down formulae, it's within his bounds to laugh heartily at that which he can't comprehend - rather the fact that he can't comprehend it.

Dislikes:

  • Flibbertigibbets. An inverse to his greatest admiration, Nestor can't stand anything which makes noise without at least some purpose for it. Even if he can tolerate a market for its goods, making noise for its own sake - well, it doesn't have its own sake, to him. It's particularly grating when people manage to prattle on for so long discussing subjects that could be ended in fewer words. He never thought that you had to use more words to deliver more information, or even feelings.

  • Obstinance. Prizing the acquisition of facts and wisdom as he does, it's beyond Nestor's comprehension (not in the funny way) that one would refuse to learn. He can understand being rooted in an opinion, but others refusing facts or refusing to have things' factuality (or lack thereof) explained simply simmers his steam buns.

Motivations:

  • Erudition. Nestor wants little more than to learn things about this world. Having come into it and being brought up inside it knowing little to nothing, he's always had to find his own answers. Part of learning is being wrong, and he is prepared to face his own mistakes and shortcomings to the end of acquiring knowledge through them.

Fears:

  • Unknown. For all his mental preparation and perhaps even his moral posturing, Nestor can't abide being ignorant of a subject when knowing it matters the most. To him, knowledge is power - and the absence of knowledge renders any and all he might do impotent. To that finality, his actions are driven by his wish to be someone that can be trusted and counted on.

  • Leaving So Soon. It is the terror that haunts every mortal soul - it all coming to an end before one's work is finished in this world. Be it death, imprisonment....

His means are appropriate to his ends.

Magic

Magic Name: Mathmagic | √魔法, Sūri Mahō

Magic Element: None.

Magic Description: Mathmagic is a Caster Magic that involves the adjustment of 'values' assigned to things, people, and actions; when they perceive something, they also can intuitively detect values they can use with spells they know. This magic manifests remotely as strings of advanced calculations and formulae rather than organized magic circles. The user typically controls their magic via holographic screens they manifest in their immediate reach.

It can defend by revising the 'damage' value of an attack when it enters an area, or increasing the durability of environmental structures. It can buff allies' stats by altering the formulas for things like 'speed' or 'force'. It heals by reducing the factor of a wound's severity, or even reducing its size via 'division' and simultaneously increasing someone's healing factor. Via the first two methods combined, it's also possible to repair inanimate objects in the surroundings. Its other uses require a deal of creativity, being that they have to indirectly affect the world through the things already in it.

History

History: How does one begin?

Birth isn't quite where "Nestor" starts. For the first portions of his life he was a very ordinary boy. Even had a normal hair color, too. It wasn't until he was about 15 that he realized he had any inkling of magic. At that time, however, he used it only for everyday tasks - formless magic to help with his chores. It was only after that he had....free time. The time to attempt discovery of what he wanted to do with his life.

But that was exactly it. The attempts at discovery filled him with such wonder, a swell in his breast, that whatever came after simply fell short. With this realization, he left home with at least one of his parents' blessing. If there was something he knew from the outset, it was that knowledge was dangerous. People have lost their lives before for knowing too much, and involving people he owed a great deal to in whatever might happen to him was not his idea of repayment.

Of course, he didn't know. He knew nothing, understood nothing, from where he thought he was beginning. Indeed, even as the years passed, the more tomes he scoured the less he found he was informed about - only as the 'grand scheme of things' grew before his own realization. The magic he developed himself was but another means to see just how much he didn't know.

Reference: Username "Victory".

Welcome Nestor,
my name's Yuno and I'll be your moderator.

  • Guild: Please put "Guildless" here.

  • Tattoo: Somehow this is missing - should be underneath Guild. Guildless or not, please state the location + colour of the tattoo in case you ever get one by joining a guild.

  • Extra: If there's nothing here, please put "N/A".

  • Magic:

Please take this out: Mathmagicians can use this method without mana for their base stats, in place of physical capabilities and training; there's no real end difference between the two, however.

This will also have to go: it can even calculate and estimate stats or the power of a spell based on experience and other known factors.

Sensory is more used in a literal sense here and you cannot actually know the damage value of a spell or stats of people/their weapons without having very particular weapons (as of now there is only one on the market, which has been sold).

Of course you can see someone use an S-rank explosion AoE and take a good guess that the caster is a strong wizard, but that's more common sense if anything.

Bump when changes are made.
