‘Strange, I am not expecting visitors,’ Kali thought when she heard the knocking sound coming from the shack’s barely put-together door. ‘It’s only 7 am,’ She grunted inside her head and decided that the best course of action would be to just ignore it. Perhaps if she stayed silent and unresponsive for long enough, whoever is at her door would just go away and leave her alone to get five more minutes of sleep, something Kali realized she was lacking these days.

Yet of course the giant had other plans. It didn’t take Godfrey an awful lot of time to just push her shack’s door off its hinge and onto the ground, the sound of which caused Kali to sit right up with a thin blanket clutched between her fingers. The void mage cast her round eyes at the dark shadow that stood at the threshold and quickly recognised it to be the rather unsavory blacksmith she had gotten acquainted with.

“What…the…hell…” she fumed between her teeth.

Whatever Kali had planned -or not at all planned- for that day, it was definitely not meeting up with this hypocritical goliath. Besides, what about the letters? Isn’t that his usual style?

Sensing something off about the silent man standing in front of her, Kali finally sighed and threw the blanket away to get up. She stood there in front of him with a moon and star patterned pyjama set and crossed her arms with a stance as if to ask him what he needed. Godfrey did not even look apologetic as he issued the command of getting Kali to go with him. In fact, he did not even give her time to think about it before her wrist was taken and dragged out the door.

“Oi!” if Kali had let him go all the times before due to money, this time she really wanted to bite his throat off.

Godfrey could thank Kali’s patience -as well as greed for money- for the fact that they reached his shop without Godfrey’s sudden disappearance off Earthland. Besides, Kali could tell from his stiff shoulders and never seen before behavior that something was very off about him. On an average day, the goliath would still try to put up a pretence of being a morally green person but not that day. No, he looked almost crazed and lost mixed with something like…’strong anticipation?’

Thoughts were turning in all direction in Kali’s head until they arrived at Godfrey’s shop. Inside was a rather eerie atmosphere and the shop held no trace of what she knew of it before. The magic scroll she acquired a few days ago was now sitting right in front of her on display on a pedestal and same was the case for the ore as well as gemstone.

“Ah,” Kali exclaimed. She knew where this was going now.

“So you have everything you need for whatever dia- I mean, ground breaking invention or whatever? Your masterpiece perhaps?” Kali’s words had obvious bits of sarcasm in them. She truly did not think that he would succeed in it. Even if he did, there was just no way he was going to go very far with it. Somehow, this man looked like someone bound for failure. Then again, Kali could be wrong. She would have to wait and see. So far, he seemed to ignore whatever contemptuous words she had for him because he was thrilled to finally get the result of his plans.

Next he had the audacity to tell Kali that she has to participate in the tedious process of actually forging this blade. ‘No? why would I waste my energy like that?’ She wanted to say but the crazy look in Godfrey’s eyes told her that she better shut it and just assist him in whatever he wanted. It’s the money that mattered, anyway.

She really, reaaallllyyy wanted to kill him now. Just sink her vampy fangs into the bastard’s neck and it would be over in seconds. Kali started plotting Godfrey’s demise every moment she felt her mana being sucked out of her body. ‘This is very uncomfortable,’ she thought, still keeping a smile -on the verge of collapse- as a front while pouring almost all her mana out into the anvil where Godfrey was busy hammering away on a steaming red thingy that was gradually taking the form of a blade.

Honestly, although Kali wanted to kill Godfrey, resurrect him, then kill him again, she was quite curious about what could be made of all these strange and unique materials. If it was something very powerful, perhaps Godfrey won’t realize it if she swiped it before his slow brain came around to finding out?

Kali found herself once again lost in thought as Godfrey stopped hammering at the sword.

‘Underwhelming,’ Kali thought as she watched Godfrey test the blade out on some random items around the shop. She stood to the side, still dressed in her stars and moon pyjama set, holding a cup of tea, growing unamused by Godfrey’s struggle to get the item working. ‘That thing is obviously blunt,’ Kali wanted to yell. Yet, no matter how much it refused to cut through some of the toughest metal in Godfrey’s possession, the blacksmith did not stop at all. He went through everything; Everything that could be found had varying degrees of scratches on it but nothing to write home about.

"Perhaps..." Kali started, only to pause when Godfrey turned to her with a glare. She pursed her lips, imagined a zipper locking her mouth in place and threw away the key. Whatever happened with this oversized monkey was none of her business anyway. Yet! Yet for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day, the monkey almost managed to make her jaw drop with everything he demanded. “What did you say?”

“Huh,” She scoffed, looking at the man and his stupid blade. “You want me to go out there and coat this thing with the blood of innocent civilians?” Kali almost flipped a table at the affirmative reply to this question. His requests were really growing bigger in degree day by day but so were the rewards and prize money he offered -which is honestly the only reason at this point that he is still standing alive in front of her.

Kali argued with him for several hours before she settled on doing the job for him, but only at night where Kali could utilize the most of her powers. Besides, going on a killing spree at night with her nature would attract the least attention; said attention being Rune Knights that Kali wanted to have nothing to do with unless she did not want to leave Baska anytime soon.

“Haaa. This better be the last of your requests…”

The first victim was a woman dressed in Sinese clothes, a tourist without a doubt. Kali had used her soundless nature to sneak up on the said woman before stabbing her right through the heart; it was the quickest way she could think of. Kali wasn’t a fan of killing unnecessarily. She would rather point her fangs at the kind of people like Godfrey, arrogant and vain. ‘The money is good, Kali. Just hang in there,’ she motived herself, going off to find the next victim.

This time, she found a middle-aged man standing under the eaves of a closed shop. He must be a labourer, taking him time going back home. He smoked a cheap cigarette and the smoke curled around him like the fog of death.

Kali approached him without a word, at which point the man looked up and raised an eyebrow. He could not see what Kali looked like with the dark cloak she borrowed from Godfrey obscuring her most conspicuous features from his human eyes. He tried asking her who she is and what she wanted only to get complete silence in return. ‘There is no point in conversing with a corpse. You can’t blame me,’ she thought before producing the bloody sword from under the cloak.

At this point the man already knew something was very wrong and he opened his mouth to scream as Kali smashed a hand onto it, harshly pressing his head back onto the concrete wall of an old shop before driving the blade into his guts. She did not stop there, but dragged the blade to the side until it popped out from the side of his waist. “Don’t resent me too much,” her voice rang in his ears before death quickly took hold of him and Kali let him go, watching his body slide down to the ground with a pool of blood growing under.

Kali continued the killing spree, killing people of all age and size one after another, quietly leaving pools of blood underneath them. The sword at this point was so bloody that it was almost impossible to recognize its colors anymore. The same could be said for Kali’s hand holding it. She had forgotten the last time Kali had so much blood on her hands. ‘Last time…it was there,’ Kali eyed her hand with a thoughtful look before moving on.

So far, she had killed a sinese woman, a man, a couple of more men, an old couple, and a vegetable farmer living near the outskirts of the town. That made the count six. She needed four more and a couple of perfect prey were right in front of her on that park bench with their hands all over each other.

‘Lovers…’ the purest of the kind. From the look of longing from both their eyes, Kali guessed that they were lovers who got reunited just now. Too bad, Kali thought. Perhaps they would reunite in whatever world that comes after this.

She approached them from behind just like she approached most of her previous victims, standing behind them without a word as they failed to notice the vampire’s presence. She found them shyly going in for a kiss when Kali drove the sword into the boy’s head, breaking skull and spilling his brain. The rush was starting to get to her; the rush of killing. It made her blood boil and her own intentions to turn ugly. People that Kali would usually leave alone, she spared none; pitied none. Even the girl going pale from the traumatic sight could not be spared when Kali brought the sword down on her direction, cleanly cutting off her head. With every passing murder, the blade was starting to get sharper and Kali was starting to get a bit crazier.

The next three victims were again men and women wandering the night. The blade grew sharper and sharper, darker and darker, with every life it took. It looked ominous as if the god of death had sent their sword down to conduct an absolute bloodbath in the Baskan village. She could not imagine the number of eyes this situation will attract the next day.

Her last victim was a mother carrying their sleeping three year old on her shoulder. Kali did not want to do this; this was just not her usual style. Nevertheless, something about that night was just blurring the line between her principles rather fast and it took Kali no time to stab the woman mid-step on the stairs. She gasped in horror before tumbling down along with her child to the bottom of the steps landing in a bloody mess on top of the now awake kid.

He watched Kali’s dark figure on the steps with eyes that are yet to realize the true magnitude of what happened as his mother’s blood flowed down onto his forehead, to the base of his eyes where it fell to his cheek like tears. ‘I should finish the job,’ Kali thought but did not make a move. She just stood there lost in thoughts for a long time before deciding to simply turn back and leave.

Back at the forge, Kali eyed Godfrey with a blank look. He looked pleased; He couldn’t take his eyes off the now pitch black blade. Unaware that Kali’s feelings were growing even darker, Godfrey happily sent her on her way, still dressed in her pyjamas.
