Night came faster than she had first anticipated it to. Even during the eve of summer’s arrival, Vyra had expected that it would have been later on in the night that the sun finally descended, casting darkness upon the city of Marigold, but before she even knew it, it seemed that light had faded away into nothing. Perhaps more reflective of just how much time had passed in the day, how much faster everything seemed to have gone now than how it did once upon a time. It may not have seen like much, but now having arrived and having been a part of Blue Pegasus, her first time in Marigold since actually having received the tattoo adorned upon her thigh, it was hard for her to quite fully appreciate it, even now. So many things were different now, to the point that even she did not fully appreciate or understand it, even as the first night was about to set since arriving.

She had come in part to put to bed concerns that she had over Marigold, a nature that was becoming more and more common in the times that she had visited. A growing sentiment of hostility, of contempt and disdain and hatred towards people like her, like Demi-Humans, Elves, Dwarves, people who were different. Not even limited just to the different races, but people as a whole. Those who were not from Marigold, those who were different. Whether it were related to different nations or anything of the sort, it was apparent that the general sentiment was stirred and built around this idea. This wave of hatred that had long ago manifested and had become more and more prevelant, particularly within Marigold and the rest of the art world. It was sickening, behavior that was repulsed within Hargeon, particularly in the wake of what Vyra had endured at the hands of the Witch Hunters once Alisa had come to find out about the treatment she suffered. It did not change though that that response was far more the outlier than it was the standard. And in the time that she had last been to Marigold, that behavior had become even more apparent.

Vyra could tell that it was worse from the moment that she had entered the city, the way the guards and the people who frolicked just outside of the gates to enter the city. Men who looked upon those coming in, seeing if they were too short, too tall, too fat, too whatever they may have been looking for as a trait to tell that the people weren’t like them. Hell, even she was not immune to such behavior, being stopped just before entering the city. If it had not been for the tattoo upon her thigh, the one that caused the men who were accosting her to back away, fearful of what may have happened if they didn’t. There was a clear level of fear held towards Blue Pegasus and other guilds like it, the relationship that they held being those that warranted and otherwise demanded respect. Respect that was very seldom shown in public, instead replaced by fear. However though, with Vyra, someone who as much represented the new iteration of someone to target and coordinate that disdain towards, Vyra presented a contrast towards that.

But a contrast did not mean that the world was going to be shifting towards them in delight, but rather instead that it was all but certain to cause problems for them, to cause problems for her, for everyone. The growing racism within Marigold was a situation that people were only willing to address when it affected them, but given that so few people within Marigold were actually affected, little happened. Thus, it became worse and worse and grew more and more rampant to the point that it was just commonly accepted, just allowed. To see Vyra being treated in such a manner, while it may have come as a shock perhaps to some of them, it was not something that they much reacted to. That someone like Vyra was actually within a guild like Blue Pegasus, it seemed far more that that was what seemed to be stunning. Her acceptance into a guild like that, it was something that was going to be far harder for them to be able to swallow.

It repulsed Vyra. It wasn’t new behavior. Every time before she had seen something of the sort before, though it had been something that at least first felt reserved, hidden away. But as time went it became more and more apparent, more obvious. Never had she been accosted at the front gates within the city, but for it to be something so common, it left a bad feeling within her throat. Vyra always enjoyed being within Marigold. It was a nice city, festive enough that it was something different than what Hargeon had, although at the same time it lacked the same level of appeal that came with Hargeon too. But that aside, it was nice enough to where she could have enjoyed the qualities of what the city had to offer without being known, without the stigma that had historically existed for her within Hargeon, the idea of being “Alisa’s Pet”, a term that within Marigold she did not have to worry about. But now instead, it seemed that there were something much worse that she had to contend with.

The sickening feeling did not quite persist deeper within the city, but it still did not give her a great feeling. Such a reception was something that the Demi-Human had not anticipated, had not hoped to encounter. That she did leave her with much optimism that this was going to have been like trips in the past that she had taken to the city. It was apparent enough, given even just how people seemed to have acted, everyone being a bit leery of one another, looking at everyone as though they had reasons to be cautious and fearful of one another. Vyra had her own suspicions towards that reasoning, much of which she suspected being something that she had started to encounter within the politics of the Marigold Theater. The idea that disagreeing with people towards the more racially -charged material that was pushed was met as though an opinion of dissention, something which as much screamed betrayal by the more radical people within the city.

All of it had left a stain upon Marigold, one that was proving to hurt the city that had once been known to be accepting and inviting of all. An effort to promote and encourage the spreading of the art, instead sacrificing that for the benefit of appealing to the lowest common denominator; the racists and bigots that existed within Fiore, that existed really anywhere within Earthland. That Marigold had become a place that was being the central location for these people to congregate, it was a far cry from what the world had been like. It was also a damning situation for Hargeon to be in, to know that a neighboring city had become one of utter disdain. Everything that Vyra had come to know of Alisa, of what she believed and what she supported, Marigold was becoming the exact opposite of that. The Demi-Human felt terrible knowing this, knowing that while she had the benefit now of being within Blue Pegasus, if it had been even slightly different route that she had taken, it likely could be her that was facing the true brunt of all of this.

When she finally retire for the night, Vyra was utterly exhausted. The day had left her drained, not just physically, but also mentally, trying to wrap her head around what had truly happened, what could have allowed for Marigold to descend into such a state. It broke her heart, knowing especially that there was a time that she could have gone to the city and just enjoyed what it had to offer. But now, it was a place that she would not have wanted to show her face around had it not been for the tattoo upon her thigh, something that even as she looked down upon, she had a hard time fully believing that it was actually true. She wanted it for so long, wondering if she may not have ever gotten the opportunity to be a part of the guild. But to have it finally, even as the sunset upon the windows of the room that she chosen to stay at for the night, Vyra could not help but look at it lovingly, knowing that it as much shown that even in a place like here, if the people of Marigold may not have cared for people like her, she knew that Alisa and the Blue Pegasus guild did.

Awakening after a restless night of sleep, Vyra found herself as much dreading the day, a far cry from how it had been in the past since she had last been within Marigold. The events of yesterday, the sentiment that radiated through the town, something that she would have hoped to have been an outlier and a nature of some random circumstance, instead proved to be far more the standard of things, leaving the Demi-Human strongly wondering what benefit there was to her remaining within the city. These brief visits, while comforting in their own right, lent to the problem that this behavior, something that at times she had seen within Hargeon as well, would not escape her. The hope was to find relaxation and a brief reprieve before possibly venturing further into the world of Fiore, but if this was what stood to be just outside of the Hargeon’s walls, would venturing further into the west, east, or north prove to be any more worthwhile?

But a part of Vyra knew that would not have been true, regardless of how pessimistic she may have been left by the events of the other day. No, Marigold was unique in that there was something that was highly motivating and pushing this racism forward and into the forefront. The Theater. When she had taken a job working there in hopes of helping people, she had seen it firsthand, or at least the elements of it, but never did she fully appreciate quite what had been happening until now, seeing the effects of that behavior being allowed to run wild in a way like it was now. This was something that even she, who had at one point seen and recognized the fear and concern that existed within all of this, had not anticipated becoming this bad this quick. But, even when she had the moment of dawning upon what needed to be done, she realized too that even then it would have been difficult, if not impossible to change things outright. Even now, it would have been just as difficult, if not even more to try to cull the corruption.

The Theater had hardly changed, or at least there did not seem to have been any changes when she arrived there, looking on with a level of disgust, knowing the sort of material that had been coming out of it. Much of ther trips into Marigold had come to end with her doing something to try tro quell the growing racist material that was being pushed, not just by the fans, but also by the directors, producers, everyone who wanted to throw their hands into the theater business and as much recognize the favorable returns that were coming out of Marigold. But, for the actors, this left them in a rougher spot. Those who tried to ride the wave of racism were suddenly met with heavy resistance out of Marigold, at least at first. Over time, as it became more and more apparent that racist actors were coming out of Marigold’s Theater, eventually the dynamic had to change slightly to become more accomadating for them. While people wanted to stand to their morals, it was impossible to not recognize that they were turning away a ton of great actors and actresses.

And so the Theater and the acting world began to soften their stance to all of the aggressive blowback that was being faced, which only further helped lead to the situation before Vyra. People who were running lines, in some cases not lines but instead just outright racist remarks. Despite her having been here before and having once been welcome, Vyra could hear out of the corner of her ears a few quiet remarks that had been thrown her way, none of which were flattering. Clenching her jaw as she walked through them, trying to find some semblance of where to go. Such corruption was rampant that rather than being a one-off individual who was pushing this sort of material, it was seemingly all of them. And so, with no real sense of direction, she went towards the only place that she had any strong idea of where to approach a problem like. The room where all of the projects set to be produced were located.

For some productions, time was not on Vyra’s side. Everything had been allotted and the only thing left to be done was the actual performance. But for many, to be thrown within this room meant only that one day they would have their name called up. It did not discriminate whether it were racist material or not, only that it was approved for production some day. And while it was a wide net, it was perfect for Vyra to ruin them, and with them the reputations of any actor, producer, or director that stuck their name upon the potential success. Unsure of quite where to begin, the only thing that the Demi-Human could reliably do was just cause whatever damage possible to all of them. Grabbing as many of the written up play documents, Vyra began to wildly tear at them, making sure that every page that was attached to the spine were no longer there in its full piece. Fragments, half-sheets, it was not long until much of the floor was simply littered with the remains of projects that would never be realized.

And there was a smile upon Vyra’s face. One twisted, one that was as much hateful towards the actions of those who had penned out these ideas, that had agreed to be a part of it. There were things that when she was intereacting with the people in the Theater that she hated, but to see a system that had become so complicit in this, it left her disgusted. Angry even. Rather than waste any more time within here, even within this city at this point, Vyra departed. Damage had been done. Plays were going to be set back months, if not years even because of what she had done. And while there were plays that did not try to spread this sort of material to the world, it did not change that they were as much part of the system that had turned Marigold into the racist place that it now was. Nobody’s hands were clean, and she was not interested in any attempts to try to convince her otherwise.
