The show was expected to end soon. Everyone seemed to know it, not a single person was surprised by it, except for Vyra possibly. Not the nature of the show ending; she had figured that out fairly early since she had arrived and begun to work with the people of the Marigold Theater. That said though, what was surprising to her was just how quick time seemed to pass over the course of the entire show’s duration. It had gone from just opening up to closing out in a very short order, it almost feeling as though it was about to end on the same day that it had begun. But though she was not a part of the Theater, even though she did not have a show or any reason to be invested in the production or the actual performance of the show, it still mattered to her for the pure purposes of her contract.

The contract that she had agreed towards the Theater, the duration of it, the terms of the payment, all of it was more tied towards the duration of the show. Once it was over, the contract was concluded and they no longer had business with one another. More importantly though, the biggest thing that mattered towards that was that her current residency within Marigold was a nice apartment that was being set up by the Theater itself. They were covering everything for her at the moment, which was in part why the jobs she had taken up until this point were wide spread and varied heavily, but all seemed to pay relatively low. Given how much that all of the fees and costs were tied towards the residencies within Marigold, particularly around the Theater District, when it was all added together, Vyra was making far more considering the effect of what she would have taken out towards having to pay for the actual rent.

But, as soon as the play had run its course, Vyra was going to have to find a place to stay if she was going to remain within Marigold, though at that point it was far more likely that she would be willing to just go ahead and return to Hargeon then. She had arrived there in the first place just for the purposes of getting away from the coastal city for a while, in part seeing the world a bit more, partially at the insistence of some members of Blue Pegasus who felt that she was spending a bit too much time there and not going ahead and exploring the world a bit more. Now though, she had been gone from the city for a bit now, having enjoyed her time away, but she was at this point coming to recognize and appreciate that yes, she was getting a bit homesick.

So, for the play to be coming close to finishing its course and inevitably ending in the next few days, there was a part of her that was admittedly a bit pleased by this, even perhaps relieved. She had a good time, had made some friends, or at least she thought of them as friends. Whether or not they viewed Vyra in the same light was something that she may not have known, but wanted to believe at least that they viewed her positively. And from a selfish perspective, she sort of hoped that those who were more prominent within the Theater, the ones who inevitably were going to end up becoming much bigger, eventually becoming famous throughout Fiore, not just Marigold, she hoped that they would look back and remember Vyra, viewing her as a friend. She did not anticipate that when that happened, when they eventually reached that level of prestige, no doubt they would have forgotten Vyra by then.

At least one person whom she suspected viewed her as a friend was ironically enough, someone whom most people would have viewed as being one of the most conneiving and underhanded amongst all of the actresses in Marigold. Alice Nightingale, probably one of the biggest stars that Marigold Theater had encountered in the past several years, she had spent a great deal of time as the top actress and had starred in plenty of performances, both in the past and moving forward. Of the shows that are slated later throughout the year, she was expected to have a starring role within the majority of them. But her road to stardom had been paved by the downfall and decline of plenty of actresses before her, some of which by their own hand, some by her doing, and others by the nature of the Theater business simply consuming them and favoring Alice instead.

Alice had seen a growth in her own popularity too over the course of the time that Vyra had been in Marigold, in part to a blanket approval by the top individuals within the Theater’s Cultural Group to do what Alice said, something which she was incredibly thankful for. By her hand, in part things that she was doing deliberately, some things that she had been doing and just happened to go ahead and benefited from, even when it was not something deliberate, she had grown both in influence and effective power. There was no disputing that Alice was the top actress at this point, and the gap was not even close, but that did not mean that there not people who otherwise did not think of themselves as one of the people to eventually succeed her. Alice was fully mindful of that too, and while she knew Vyra would be here for a short bit still, she figure to take the final advantages of that.

What Vyra found most surprising about all of this, all of the internal politics and the infighting that took place across them all, was the fact that were a very low amount of actual violence that was committed between them. There were an instance of an actress dying, though everyone had attributed that to an accident. Maybe she was drunk. It would not have surprised anyone really, with how much some of the actors and actresses had drunk on any given night, it was fair to say that for the local wineries and taverns within Marigold, the actors and actresses were often among some of their best patrons. But that had been the only incident that had occurred while Vyra was there in Marigold, and though there were no shortages of disputes that had taken place since, nothing had had her believing that anyone actually wanted to inflict harm upon anyone.

Even here it was another example of though she was being tasked with taking care of a job, handling a woman who was growing a bit too fast for their own good, it seemed like there was nothing that had her believing it was going to be something that permanently affected her. If anything, it was completely safe within the realm of what she imagined the jobs could have been, but it seemed like it was going to be end up being something that would more adversely than what she could have appreciated. A simple sleeping tonic, one that would induce a heavy sleep to whomever drank it, long enough and heavy enough that whomever happened to have a sip would have no doubt slept through anything, including a performance or that of the people that might have stumbled upon her within her dressing room in hopes of awakening her. Which was exactly the point.

To fail to show up for a performance, to be unable to perform by something that was within their own control, that was an offense greater than anything one could have imagined within their world. It was a career killer, one that would result in anyone, even the most seasoned or impressive actors or actresses to end up finding themselves struggling to find work. There were never a shortage of actors and actresses looking for a chance, and even the most accomplished actress could be replaced by someone else. There was never an instance of someone who could not be replaced, and that was exactly what Alice wanted Vyra to take care of and handle. This woman who was trying to build themselves as a person that would be able to become one of the top actresses, if she were to think that that could happen, the greater challenge would come of her being able to do so after having missed her starring role on the final show.

It was a simple job really, and one that Vyra could only appreciate that this was being asked of her towards the end of her time rather than right at the beginning. The people within the Theater were used to her at this point, her presence within the dressing room being one that was hardly surprising. Walking towards the room, she was relieved to know that there was nobody there, and as she gently opened the door, seeing the empty room, she smiled as she poured the liquid within a thick glass, it being hard to quite see what was in there, no doubt some sort of rum. Leaving it there, mixed well, she made sure she got out as stealthily as she arrived and as night fell, the cries and echoes of panic over people realizing the job could not be finished were all too common backstage. Looking to Alice, she was certain that she could see the girl blowing her a kiss in appreciation for what she had done.
