Kaz kneels down next to the two kids. They tell the wind mage that they are the last survivors of the water clan. They are all alone here, after some of the attacks that have happened. The wind mage sighs at hearing their words. The once-great lands of the water clan were barren. The place he had first found love and friendship now was desolated. As he turned back to the kids, they weren’t crying but held each other with trembling arms. They introduced themselves as Hina and Jaya. Names that didn’t mean much to the mage as they weren’t familiar to him.

“Alright, you two. Follow me. We are going to the wind clan. You’ll be safer there,” Kaz waved his hand for the two of them to follow along with him as he walked carefully out of the village. Even being there brought back a flood of memories the mage couldn’t imagine.

He ran his hand along the pillars and statues. Water trickled from his fingertips, in the air.

A couple of days went by and they were back at the wind clan village. Kaz introduced the two of them to the other survivors. As they prepared meals to eat and got beds ready, they spoke to the elder wind mage. Kaz sat cross-legged and listened. Storms had been ravaging the land recently and beasts were starting to appear. A seal at a cave had been broken and now there was a never-ending storm around the celestial mountain. Kaz looked towards the mountain. Thunder boomed and lightning ignited the sky. He felt a strong pull towards the peak. A wild howling within his soul. “I’ll go check things out. You all stay here and make sure you’re safe.” Kaz said and then fixed his tunic and tightened his scarf before heading toward the seal. There was no time to waste.

Two ropes dangled on the ground, in front of the cave. They were decorated with ornate fastens. Small red ribbons draped from the thick knotted rope. A stone door was split in half and resting haphazardly on the ground. He pressed his knee to the ground and smelled the air with his newfound animal senses. Even taking a deep breath in through his nose, he could feel the call of the wild that had followed him for years. “Up the mountain.”

He traveled toward the storm. It pushed back with heavy rains that drenched his clothes. He conjured the wind to keep the rain out with a small tornado around himself. A small whimper echoes behind him. Kaz whirls around to see Hina. “So you finally caught up,” Kaz said calmly. The child stood shocked that she wasn’t scolded. “You have the right to choose whatever path you want. Being in the clan means you will take risks." Kaz said and marched onward while Hina controlled the water around themselves to stay dry.

The storm passed and standing before the wind mage was an armored man with a spear. The aura was nearly overbearing. Kaz stared eye to eye with the figure but it was familiar even if the face was different. “Byakko,” Kazimir spoke into the wind. The figure nodded back at the wind mage.

“The embodiment. A fraction of my power. But now it is time to be tested. See if you are still strong now that you have forsaken your grace.”

Kaz glared back at Byakko…”Let’s find out then,” Kaz said as Byakko closed the distance with a rapid dash. Hina fell back, stunned by the speed. Kaz stood still and tapped his foot on the ground. The wind mage shot forward, faster than Byakko, and was behind him. The embodiment of the celestial peered over his shoulder with wide eyes. Kaz stood with his back facing the celestial fragment. Byakko leaped into the air.

Kaz dashed up and beyond him faster than the spirit could hope to move. Kaz hung in the air and spiraled around. Byakko launched a blade of wind. The mage dashed around it to the ground. As soon as his feet touched, Kaz conjured a storm above Byakko and crashed it down on the vessel.

Byakko’s embodiment crashed into the ground. The being crawled its way to its feet. Eyes filled with a swirling storm. Lightning splashed erratically from the heavens to the earth. Kaz dashed and dodge the countless bolts of lightning that stormed down, leaving small fissures behind. The wind mage backflipped and roared. The storm bent to the mage's will as tornadoes smashed into the earth. A dozen tornados tore up the land and left the figment of the celestial on the ground until it vanished. The voice of Byakko spoke through the thunder. “Well Done Kazimir. You passed the test. It is time for you to represent me in the battle of the four winds. Claim the power of the divine wind for yourself and bring honor to both of us. Continue up the mountain to claim your destiny. And be free from what binds you.”

Kazimir squinted his eyes and peered through the storm. “I don’t understand. Tournament of wind?”

“That is what this is all about. To truly claim the power I can provide. This is your path. This is what you have trained your life for. Now go.” The voice said once more before fading away. The wind mage stood in silence for a moment. It had all happened so fast, but he felt the wind rushing in his soul. He knew he needed to push forward. The Wind Spirit had granted him power for his whole life and now it was time to fight for the being. He helped Hina back up and together they headed further up the mountain. It spiraled up to the peak, and above the clouds. The land below them drifted away until all they saw was the mountain, sky, and an ocean of clouds.
