”All right! Let’s kick some ass.” Kenzo said to himself as he slapped both of his cheeks while looking at the mirror. The male had just finished brushing his teeth after eating breakfast. The male had an important task that day, so he made extra sure to take care of his dental hygiene before getting out to the streets. ”See ya later boss” he said as he rushed down the stairs and towards the door. His arm waved at the woman sitting behind the counter at the inn’s corner. It was quite a nice place that Kenzo had found the last time he had visited Baska city, so he decided to stay here once again. ”Good luck today Kenzo! I’m rooting for you!” Answered the woman as the blue haired mercenary left the building. The male was in good spirits that morning; there were very few things that managed to put Kenzo in a good mood like a nice impending fight up ahead. This was, after all, quite a peculiar day for the merchant city of Baska. Being a town known for its hordes of mercenaries, adventurers and ex-rune knights, fights at the place were quite common. Considering they had also been blessed with the perfect battle arena that was the great Baska Rock, it was not weird for the place to have developed certain customs and traditions that all had to do with fighting.

The day before, Kenzo had attended one such event. He had been sent by his guild in order to garner support of the town and further expand Advent World’s influence over the western region of Fiore. During his reconnaissance mission, he found out that the great Bloom Festival was about to take place in town. Even if it had a cheesy name, he didn’t care.

Celebrating the Spring of the year, the Bloom Festival was held every year. Contrary to what the name might suggest though, it was far from roses and nice flowers in nature. It was one of the most important fighting tournaments in the country, just behind the Grand Magic Games. Considering the current state of political affairs, it was not an exaggeration that this Bloom Festival in particular would be the most important of the decade. Heck, perhaps of the whole century. The nobles and royals dwelled in their power squabbles while they allowed towns like Baska slip out of their spheres of influence. Considering the large garrison of Rune Knights that lived in the city and the fact that the organization had been effectively disbanded the past year, Baska was currently an effectively lawless place. True to tradition, the way the council of elders had decided to settle the matter was the way Baskans knew best: A fight. It had been agreed previously that those that emerged victorious from the upcoming Bloom Festival Tournament would be recognized as the masters of the city, as long as their motivations held Baska’s future in the highest of priorities. No one had objected to the decision, and thus began preparations for the event. Many different factions within the city had formed and planned to participate on the event. This was the perfect opportunity that Advent World was looking for, there would probably not be a better chance than this. Kenzo knew this very well and had requested the guild master specifically to allow him to take care of it. He was still itching from a fight ever since the Grand Magic Games had ended. He had enjoyed his fight with Fayre, but there was still some room for much more inside of him.

Thus, the blue haired male arrived at the appointed place. Kin rode on the merc’s shoulder as he tried to open his way between the crowd that enjoyed of the different stalls surrounding the great rock. ”Coming through… Excuse me… Make way…” Kenzo pushed his way gently with his hand as he slowly made his way up a steep rocky road that lead to the top. The male was taller than most people, and his appearance made him quite noticeable. Being squeezed so close to others, he couldn’t help but hear the occasional whisper from those in the crowd as he passed by. ”Did you see him! That’s him!! Is he going to participate?” The male smirked as he heard a couple of women speaking. Ever since his arrival to the country, he had managed to create quite a reputation for himself. Albeit not the best of reputations, Kenzo was undoubtedly one of the best most recognizable figures in all of Fiore. So much for working his ass off…

As he thought of these things, a couple of girls stood in the young warrior’s way as one of them held both her hands close to her chest. It seemed she had something to say, as her gaze shyly rose to meet with his. ”Uhm… E-excuse me Mr…. W-would you mind taking a picture with u-us?” The girl barely managed to make eye contact with Kenzo, yet he couldn’t help but chuckle. ”Sure thing.” The male took a pic with both girls as the crowd began whispering louder. Most of them had by now managed to place his name right. It was impressive how quickly rumors spread in the somewhat medieval society of Fiore. Some of the expressions were of awe, while others expressed fear. After all, Kenzo had a bounty.

Either way, a circle within the crowd started forming with him in the middle as people pointed their fingers at them and others approached him. It was kind of starting to become annoying. If he didn’t hurry up, he’d be late to the fights. As he struggled to break away from the people, Kin decided to take flight and loose himself in the distance. ”Damned squirrel! Don’t abandon me!!!” Kenzo yelled at the winged lemur. ”Hey Kenzo!! Are you participating in the tournament or what are you doing here?!” A male yelled from the sidewalk. He was a rugged looking fella, but undoubtedly someone the male had never met before. As he made his question, the rest of the crowd remained silent. It would seem that most of them were interested in what his answer might be. ”Chance~” Was the first thought that crossed the merc’s mind as he noticed the shift of mood. Seems that garnering Baska’s support would be easier than what he first thought.

Clearing his throat, the male composed himself before raising his voice. He made sure each and every person present could hear him clearly. He was sure the gossiping villagers would do the rest to spread what he had to say to the rest of Baska before nightfall.

”That’s right! My purpose today is attending the great Bloom Festival tournament in representation of Advent World. This are dangerous and trying times. As a mercenary and a fighter, myself I won’t allow any half assed thugs to become the champions and claim dominance over my fellows from Baska. I’d be dead before Baska becomes the turf of someone other than Advent World!” There was silence for a second before people started cheering and applauding. It would seem he could see eye to eye with them.

Kenzo was glad he had chosen to go to Baska. After all, most of the people at town thought just like him. For now, he had garnered the support of those passing by. ”We-we’ll be rooting for you Kenzo!!” shouted a group of girls as the rest of the crowd cheered. Kenzo simply flashed a wink before getting away from the spot. He was now pumped up for a fight. All that was left was winning this thing and the place would be as good as theirs.

The fights proceeded almost in the same fashion as the day before. He had attended one of the mockup tourneys and won a Dhuilin in the process. However, the difference with the real tournament was the amount of people that had decided to participate. Instead of being a single free for all battle, it was divided into 4 different brackets. Each of them had 100 fighters each, yet the rules were decided to streamline the process in a way the mercenary quite enjoyed. Each of the brackets would consist of a last man standing fight while at the end the four finalists would compete in yet another last man standing round. Kenzo smirked as the start signal was given within his bracket. He was finally free to go wild.

The fighting finished as quickly as it started. Striking foe after foe, the male managed to become the last person standing in the ring after a couple of minutes had passed. After being named the finalist of bracket B, the male waited to see the rest of the guys he’d have to fight. There were some really impressive people, but nothing that made him doubt his strength. At most, he’d the highest ranking of them at around an A-Rank. Unluckily for the guy, he was a sorcerer. Against most, he’d undoubtedly prove to be some trouble. However, the male was an expert anti-magic fighter. Proving once again his dominance in a battle against mages, Kenzo became the last man standing in the ring. The crowd roared and cheered as the new champion of the Bloom Festival was awarded. Taking a microphone, the male rose his sword in a victory pose as he announced the news to the place. ”From today onward… Anyone that messes with Baska messes with Advent World!!!”

The crowd roared in excitement and acceptance. The Great Baska Rock had become Advent World’s territory.
