Selindra

Personal

Name: Selindra

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Bisexual

Guild: Grimoire Heart

Tattoo: Below left breast [Blood Red]

Face: Selvaria Bles [Valkyria Chronicles]

Appearance

Height: 5'8"

Overall: Selindra often wears an outfit which bears striking similarities of historical officer regalia, with the greatest contrast being the significant color scheme, adorned heavily in variants of blacks, reds, and golden pieces adorning throughout. The outfit is generally treated as two pieces, the first being the outfit consisting of the leggings, boots, gloves, and matching tunic. The second piece is the small over cloak in which can be easily removed per Selindra's desire. In most cases she tends to allow her hair to freely flow, but may occasionally put her hair up in warranted situations, such as during events that require a higher level of decorum.

Personality

Personality: Cold, calculated, and often times, cruel, Selindra embodies the rigid order and structure of one raised within the military lifestyle with the sadistic fury that one might find within a sociopath. Having spent most of her life around structured forces growing up and during her time in the Rune Knights, Selindra is notorious for adhering to and enforcing the chain of command. In particular, the suddenness to which she may lash out upon someone for breaking the chain of command has become something of a fabled myth, with some stories having circulated of her going as far as to order the execution of an entire unit for what she perceived as disobedient of orders.

Her cold demeanor and feelings of obligation towards order do not take away from her cruelty, especially towards those of Mages. In spite of being a member of Grimoire Heart, Selindra's disdain and disgust towards those who practice Magic has never waned, if anything only further growing as time has gone on. As has the lengths to which she will go to carry out such vengeance. No longer hindered by the restraints imposed upon by the Rune Knights, Selindra possesses no qualm or concern regarding employing cruel and even barbaric tactics to either extract information or otherwise punish someone she has deemed as an enemy.

In spite of all of this, Selindra still conveys a skewed perception of honor and duty. Regarding the matter of job requests with a sense of severity to a degree more akin to a suicide mission than anything else, Selindra routinely employing a mentality of succeed or die, not allowing for any compromise to the intended aim of the operation at hand. Similarly too, this nature causes a serious lack of empathy towards comrades, with the potential for lives lost being a necessary risk and an insignificant loss with respects to the gains of the mission's success.

Likes:

  • Order: To Selindra, the idea of order more reflects the idea that everyone knows their place. The weak remain weak, the strong are strong and in power, and power struggles between the two do not exist. Selindra, believing herself to be an elite, views the rest of the world as those who should be subserviant to her and is determined to see that come to a reality.
  • War: Selindra is a soldier before anything else, and a talented one at that. Her prestige, her greatest strengths, they are further expanded and utilized in times of war, whether in the capacity of leading a unit or otherwise fighting on her own. Within an environment in which violence and the disregarding of human life becomes all the more prevalent, Selindra revels in this.
  • Luxury: In spite of her preferences of war and of being within the fields of death, Selindra also enjoys the life of those celebrated, the luxuries that most cannot afford, the luxuries in which are mostly reversed to whom she believes to be "elite". It is only right then, that as a brilliant soldier who built a name for herself in periods of violence, that she be able to revel in those same spoils.

Dislikes:

  • Accountability: Accountability stands as perhaps the one attribute to which Selindra had come to despise more than any other during her time and service within armed regiments. In particular, it was the responsibility and blame to which fell upon officers of their lower soldiers' actions which infuriates her the most, as her dishonorable discharge was partially attributed to her failure to stop her soldiers from mass killings.
  • Magic: While it may be instilled partially due to her times while in the Rune Knights, Selindra has seen the worst of Magic enough times to know that as a whole, its very existence is dangerous. Even within Grimoire Heart, she harbors dismay and disgust towards those who actively use it or otherwise support its usage.
  • Guilds: An almost hypocritical disdain that Selindra carries, much like how she believes Magic is dangerous, so too does she believe that guilds are dangerous. Believing that mages alone are a risk to the world, guilds are nothing more than a stockpile of a weapons of mass destruction as far as she can see.

Motivations:

  • Magic Genocide: Whether or not she is within a guild or not, it has not changed the fact that Selindra perhaps more than anything else wishes to see those who use Magic wiped from the world. Although she is one who revels in war and violence, Magic adds an element in which she cannot reasonably counter, thereby limiting the maximum potential in which she can achieve. To prevent this from occurring, the most logical scenario is that those with Magic cease to further exist. Whatever measures must be taken, however many lives must be lost to achieve it, it will all be for a worthwhile end goal.
  • Prestige: Once upon a time, Selindra had been regarded as one of the most effective - and lethal - members of the Rune Knights, having earned the moniker of "the White Witch-Hunter" and while it was a feared title, it also came with it respect and admiration. She longs for that same sentiment and feeling again, to which everyone who encounters her will be expected to remember just who she is and what is capable of.

Fears:

  • Peace: Peace is a relative term, meaning a variety of things to a variety of different people. For Selindra in particular, it means the idea in which war does not exist. The arena in which she most feels alive, absent from the world and left as nothing more than a simple past memory. Even further, the abolishment of violence and violent acts would further also fall within this definition of peace.
  • Utopian Society: Similar to how peace can be interpreted differently, Selindra regards a Utopian society as one in which the people who practice Magic and those that do not live in harmony with one another, more akin to the current state of Fiore than anything else. Given her desire to see Magic gone from the world, a period like this make it all the more impossible to achieve.
  • Telepathy: While something in which many people would not ever consider to be worth fearing, this fear extends more to her time as a soldier and leader within the Rune Knights. Knowing how a battle will be dictated can be key to either a victory or loss, and the potential for one to invade her mind and otherwise know her strategies would not only put her in a compromised situation, but also could put her life in danger as well.

History

History: It isn't quite clear as to where Selindra originated from, much of her past being largely clouded in either mystery or otherwise allowed to be conjured up through rumors and speculation, none of which can be either confirmed or denied. What is known of the woman who refers to herself as Selindra is that she had at one point been a member of the Rune Knights, at one point even ascending to a rank sufficient enough to lead a small unit of her own. Having earned herself the title of the "The White Witch-Hunter", she was famed for her talent and capabilities of pursuing and apprehending - and often times, executing - wanted Mages or those who were suspected of supporting their attempted escapes from the Rune Knights. In the same respect, this reputation and moniker often led to people viewing her as someone who increasingly sought to exceed their power and authority outside of the realm to which was allowed by the Rune Knights.

It eventually came to a head during an incident within Orchidia Town. Selindra and her unit, having pursued a Lamia Scale mage that had been suspected of assisting in the escape of a fellow mage that had been wanted, was seeking refuge and safety from within their guild hall, hoping that the loose alliance between the Rune Knights and Lamia Scale would serve as adequate protection. Insulted by this notion of peace, Selindra ordered her unit to lay siege to the Guild Hall, an act in which was regarded as an act of war by the people of Orchidia, who had become intent on preventing Selindra from carrying out her assault. As protests mounted further and further and began to appear more aggressive, Selindra turned her attack instead against the people. The result was a massacre, with numerous civilians being killed while several of her Rune Knights were injured, a handful of them even succumbing to their injuries

Intent on making an example of Orchidia and Lamia Scale, Selindra returned to Era in hopes of having a much larger force deployed to Orchidia. However, upon her return and the reports arriving from Orchidia, Selindra was arrested and ordered to stand trial for the deaths of the people of the city, with the number having reached over twenty. At her trial, Selindra did not deny her issuing of the order, though threw all blame upon her men, accusing them of neglecting their orders to bring in the suspected mage in favor of striking against the people instead who were supporting the dark mages. While the public sentiment was that she was to be executed for what was regarded as genocide, there was an outcry of protest at the announcement that Selindra would not be executed, but rather would be dishonorably discharged from the Rune Knights, with mass speculation believing that she possessed some degree of leverage over those in the Council, assumedly relating to past incidents in which she had been involved with.

Whatever the actual reason had turned out to be, it remained a mystery save for those who were directly involved in the woman's discharge. As for the Rune Knights that were under her command, their punishments varied. A small few of them were cleared and permitted to return to their duties under different regiments. Most were also dishonorably discharged, and an even smaller handful were sentenced to death. Upon these announcements, the outcry that had already existed with respects to Selindra's case only further escalated, with some angered individuals going as far as to request that a bounty be placed upon Selindra's head. But by the time that there had been a handful of people who were willing to take the unofficial contract, Selindra had disappeared, most of the reports that were present with respects to her whereabouts proving to lead to little actual assistance or being otherwise entirely false. Some had hoped that during this period that she had died, left Fiore entirely for parts unknown, or otherwise went into exile. Unbeknownst to most people, at some point Selindra found herself in communications with the dark guild Grimoire Heart, opting to join alongside them and use them to help further along her genocidal crusade.
