The sirens blared throughout the Rune Knight facility as the rapid sounds of footsteps could be heard echoing. Everyone from pages to Captains rushed out of their rooms to arm themselves. The clang of swords, shields, and various weapons threatened to overtake the sounds of the blaring claxons. Everyone seemed to be up and preparing for war. For Daisuke, however, he still remained in his bed, completely oblivious to the alert. He was tightly wrapped up in his bedding with a lone foot sticking out. A small pool of drool formed on the left side of his pillow. “And he’s one of the strongest we have?” Darius says after his most recent failed attempt to wake up his colleague. He and Shotaro were fully armed and ready to go, only held back by their still sleeping companion. “One of…but not the strongest.” Misora’s voice rang out. She, remembering her brother had missed the last alert due to his oversleeping and ended up having success slaying the wyvern, did not want to have history repeat itself.

She had made her way to her brother’s room just to make sure that he was up. For his sake, it was a very good thing that she did. “Excuse me…” she says softly to Darius as she moves him out of the way and glares at her brother. “Wake the hell up you dumbass!” She yells as she strikes him with the blunt end of Luin directly on his chest, prompting a cringe from Darius and a yell of pain from Daisuke. “What the hell!?” Daisuke exclaims as he groans in pain, tightly holding his chest. “Do you not hear the damn sirens? We have to go!” She says as she exits the room, leaving both men sitting in the room. “Why the hell didn’t you help me?!” Daisuke says as he slowly gets out of bed, his chest still sore. “Dude, your sister scares the shit out of me. I do not want to be on her bad side.” “Well, I perpetually live on her bad side. What’s this alarm about?” Darius shrugs his shoulders as he hands Daisuke a shirt who quickly puts it on.

Daisuke, in less than ten minutes, stood alongside his sister and the rest of the Rune Knights as they all filed in the grand hall. The sirens had finally stopped and there was light conversation amongst the masses. No one, not even captains, seemed to know why they had been gathered. Comments and rumors on just what could be the reasons filled the air. From more dark invaders to wyverns or even dragons. Rumors were abound. Suddenly, the Captain Commander entered the room. A revered man whose accomplishments were plenty. Dressed in red, he moved confidently as he made his way to the podium. “A-ten-hut!” one of the Captains yell as all Rune Knights salute the Captain Commander as he comes to a stop at the podium. “I’ve never seen him before.” Daisuke mutters to his sister who surprisingly does not shush him. Both of them had heard the exploits of the Captain Commander from back when their father was a part of the Knights. His feats were legendary and he held a position that nearly every Knight aspired to obtain at some point in their careers.

“At ease…” he says. He scans the sea of Knights in the hall and takes a brief sigh before speaking. “As I’m sure you all know, Earthland’s offensive against the invaders of the Dark Universe is coming to an end. They are steadily being pushed back to the nightmarish hellscape they attempted to escape from. Our efforts against the group that attempted to raid Era a short time ago only furthered the push.” Daisuke’s face grew red as this was the event he slept through. While he did manage to achieve an accolade of his own, he was soundly chewed out by his superiors for it.

“However, it seems that some of them managed to slip through the cracks and enter Era. Worse, a few of them have allied with some of the trash gangs that swarm the streets. An already dangerous entity made worse by the addition of these dark mages. We’ve received intel regarding the locations of their hideouts. So, we are taking the fight to them. We’ll be forming strike teams to hit them where they live and bring all of these criminals to justice; including the remnants of the invaders. It’s well documented that they will rather die than be captured. Do what you can to see to it that does not happen. Captains! Meet with me to learn your locations then select your teams. I want all troops mobilized within the hour. Dismissed!” he says as they all salute.

“So, this will be the first time we’re working together.” Darius says as he, Daisuke, and the rest of the group make their way to their assigned location in the dead of night. “Yeah, can’t say I’m not interested to see what you can do. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything outside of training.” “You would have had you woken up during the last alert.” Darius quips to the chagrin of Daisuke. It was something that he knew he’d likely never live down, despite what accomplishments he did. He opened his mouth to retort but the stern voice of their captain silenced him.

“Alright, listen up. You all heard what the Captain Commander said. It’s time we take the fight to these scum. Fight to detain. Any questions?” “I’ve one.” Darius pipes up as he moves closer to the captain. “While the building they’re in is rather large, wouldn’t we be walking into the proverbial lion’s den if we just charge inside?” The Captain smiles as she moves towards Daisuke and places a hand on his shoulder.

“I considered that. That’s one of the reasons why I chose Mr. Sato here.” All eyes turned to Daisuke for a moment as the man looked at them all in confusion. After a few seconds, he realized her plan. It was simplistic. She wanted him to flush them out with the flames from Galantine as once Daisuke drew the sword, they would lose the element of surprise anyway. Better to flush them out and handle them as they came. Daisuke nods as the Captain orders everyone to surround the building. Once they were all in position, she signals Daisuke to begin the offensive. “Showtime.” Daisuke says as he draws Galantine from its sheath, the darkness in the sky quickly fading away. Flames coated the blade as Daisuke trails his fingers along the blade before sending a torrent of flames towards the building. In seconds, the building in engulfed in flames as the occupants swarm out in droves, all ready to fight.

The clang of metal clashing with metal could be heard just faintly over the whizzing of spells as both parties engaged one another in a brutal fight. The gang was out for blood, furious that they had been flushed out of their hideout and determined to not be locked away. The knights stuck to their plan, systematically taking out targets and taking extra care to detain and not kill. Daisuke found himself locked in clash with a fire mage, a dark invader who had decided to take on Galantine with his own sword comprised of flames. The two found themselves at a stalemate as they each jockeyed for position. “I know all about you and this sword. You’re unworthy of it. I can’t wait to pry it from your lifeless corpse. With the power of Galantine and that creature inside after I break it, I will be invincible.” “And I thought I talked too much.” Daisuke says as he pushes off and breaks the stalemate. The mage swings his sword, threatening to cleave Daisuke’s head off. The youth tightens his grip and brings his sword down, easily destroying the flaming sword and delivering a deep wound across the man’s chest. He howls in pain as he collapses to the ground, defeated.

As Daisuke goes to take on another gang member, he suddenly remembers the words of the invader. “That creature inside… That might mean someone else is in that building.” Daisuke thinks as he darts towards the building. “Sato! Where are you going?” The Captain shouts as she sees Daisuke bolt past. “I believe there is an innocent trapped in the building. I need to rescue them.” He says as he barges through the flames and enters the building. He could faintly hear the Captain’s shouts as he moved but that was put on the backburner for the time being. If there was an innocent victim in this burning building, Daisuke felt responsible to save them. He quickly moved throughout the building, shouting hello every few feet. The smoke was thick and it was getting harder to breathe, much less see what was in front of him. He had to go keep going though as he could not and would not forgive himself if someone happened to perish because of him.

Rounding a corner, Daisuke hears a faint humming sound coming from a room at the end of the hall. As he had searched the building from top to bottom, he knew that this had to be the location. He charges full steam at the door in an attempt to ram in but bounces back from the heavily fortified door. “Shit…” he yells as he winces in pain. Thinking fast, the youth draws Galantine once more and takes a quick swipe at the door, destroying it completely. Daisuke moves inside and sees what looked to be a laboratory. Tools were scattered throughout and strapped to a metal was a small blue cat-like creature. Its eyes were closed and Daisuke wondered if it was even alive. A brief show of movement confirmed to Daisuke that the creature was in fact, alive. Thinking quickly, Daisuke moves towards the creature, freeing it from its restraints. Wrapping the creature in his now removed jacket and cradling it to protect it from any fire, Daisuke begins to head back towards the exit.

“Where is he?” Darius says as he paces around and watches the mages who knew water spells attempt to put out the burning building. It had been twenty minutes since Daisuke ran inside saying that he was going to save someone. In that time, the rest of the Knights had defeated the members of the gang and were anxiously waiting to see if the last unaccounted for was alright. As Darius worried about his friend, and momentarily worried about his own health should the unspeakable happen and Misora catch wind of it, the mages finally managed to put out the fire in the lower part of the building. “I’m going to find Daisuke!” Darius says as he attempts to run it. “Relax, I’m fine.” Daisuke says as he emerges from the smoke still cradling the blue creature. The youth moves towards the Captain and positions his body in such a way where she is able to see the creature but have it still covered. “I told you something was in there. I was going to make sure everyone gets back safely.” “That was reckless and dangerous Sato!” She before she takes another look at the sleeping creature in his arms. Her demeanor softens as she places a comforting hand on Daisuke’s shoulder. “Good job.” She smiles before addressing the squad. “Good job everyone. Let’s get these criminals transported to the dungeon.”
