Today was officially Alejandro's first day of work, and oh boy... They already didn't want to be here and now they had to prepare themselves to be the best grunt they could be. The tests presented to them were fairly easy. Compared to their other classmates they stood out like the star their father knew they were. Alejandro though, couldn't care less about this career field. It just didn't feel like them and now they were stuck here. The seventeen year old elf was the youngest Rune Knight drafted this year, so there were a lot of eyes on them. Some people wondered if they could handle all that came with being a Knight, others wondered if they had only passed the tests because of who their family was. All in all, Alejandro was probably better suited than most people anyway, despite how young they were in comparison to their comrades.

Unbeknownst to the young Celdrua, the higher ups had requested a very special meeting for a very special task. The line to enter the headquarters was rather long this afternoon. Pages, apprentices and seated Knights alike entered the halls after showing proof of their identity. Some folks didn't need to show anything at all. When Alejandro approached the guards outside of the giant silver doors, they simply nodded and allowed them to pass. At that moment, Alejandro knew that they were well aware of who they were. There was a lot of fame behind the Celdrua name. The Stellan sighed, preparing themselves for what was to come upon entering. It wasn't their first time at a Rune Knights base, yet they couldn't help but feel intimidated by how intense it all felt inside. There were Knights gearing up on one end of the building, others rushing about, and then you had other folks seemingly waiting to sign up.

Alejandro took the paper that had been delivered to them out of their pocket and glanced over it for the first time in days. Room 105. The Savannan Elf looked up and around at the doors as they strolled through the halls. There was absolutely no pep in their step. They poked their lips out as they searched for the door until finally they stopped right in front of it. Oddly enough there were no other knights in front of it. Just when they raised their hand to knock on the door, it swung open and revealed a singular man at his desk with his hand raised. Was Yunta prepared for this? Probably not, but they were already here. If they had put up a good fight they probably could have convinced their father to not force them into the Rune Knights ranks. Alas, that would have only made things harder at home.

So now Alejandro had to suck it up and do what they knew how to do best; absolutely nothing. The elf stepped into the room with a twisted awkward smile that soon dimmed into something of a "I actually hate everything about this" facial expression. The man at the desk smiled warmly before swinging his hand and closing the door behind Alejandro. He wore the basic getup of a Knight but his badge was a bit different. Ale remembered that this particular symbol was one that belonged to a Captain. "Alejandro Celdrua. Pleasure to meet you." the man said. "Captain." The elf saluted. It made them feel gross. If their older sister was here right now she probably would have exploded with laughter. "Likewise." They nodded. "I won't hold you hostage for long, haha. I am Captain Kyro, I've been assigned to watch you closely." Alejandro raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Do all the pages get their own stalker? Haha." Alejandro joked. Kyro shook his head.

"No, unfortunately they don't. You, however, are a very special case- and not because you're a Celdrua." Well that was a bit of a relief. The young Sorcerer was always walking in the shadow of their family and less so in the light of themselves. Still, they were a bit confused. "How do you mean?" They asked. Kyro began shuffling at the papers on his desk until he came across the one he was looking for. "Well, Alejandro, according to your file you had a perfect score on every test. It's quite impressive, yet it isn't unheard of. What's more Impressive is that your strength, speed, endurance, constitution and intelligence far surpass any page we've had in the last few years and you're only seventeen years old. They've ranked you as an S-class mage which is comparable to some of the strongest mages in the country. People like Brone Heavyaxe or Sofia of Blue Pegasus, even Erebus of Eternal Nightmare have been deemed S-rank mages."

Alejandro nodded slowly, truthfully not even as impressed as Kyro thought they should have been at first. Alejandro knew they were strong. They knew that they were stronger than most kids their age and most people who were far older. Then, the more they thought about it the crazier it sounded. These were famous mages that they were being compared to. "Oh shit, damn." they said as they looked away, "oh- sorry." they quickly covered their mouth. They could hear their mothers voice ringing in the back of their head now. "No cursing Alejandro Yunta Celdrua!". The Captain wasn't offended at all though. He chuckled and waved his hand. "It's alright. Anyway, that's why you were called in today; your strength. We imagine you'll be breezing through Page and apprentice and become a seated Knight in no time." He grabbed another paper. "Here." he said handing it off to the elf. "While the other pages do grunt work, you'll be doing field work at the level of Captains such as myself. All the information you need is on the paper."

And that was that. Just like that though? Everything happened so fast, Alejandro was genuinely confused- shocked even. Kyro waved the elf off and they waved back awkwardly, turning to leave the room and then the building. Immediately they thought about calling their mom because what the fuck was that Captain actually thinking? Alejandro was certain that they could handle any obstacle in their way, but this quest was Captain level and they were a page. Believe it or not, the young Celdrua would have preferred to just stand around or do some of the easier work. The fact that they were getting page pay and doing high level work was actually insane. What next? They'll have them guard the king himself? With a groan, they decided against calling their mother. They were a young adult now, every decision they made didn't require the consultation of momma dearest. Perhaps they just needed some damn friends.

Yunta embraced the warmth of the sun on their skin as they left the Base stationed in Crocus and began to look over the paper and all its instructions. Apparently there was a giant avian creature that had been stealing "Elven children?" from the streets of crocus. "Oh, funny." The Stellan thought. This was a very tactical move on the Rune Knights behalf. Alejandro was an elf, arguably a child, and a giant avian creature had a taste for elven children. The Avian creature had last been seen yesterday morning so all the Elves were warned to stay in doors until the problem was handled. It made sense to Yunta that the creature hadn't showed its face again. The note also wrote that Alejandro should allow the creature to roam for a while and study how it moves, then report it back to the base in Crocus. It sounded like a damn chore.

Alejandro didn't have any weapons currently. They had a bow about a month ago but it broke after they decided to do something extremely stupid so for this mission all they had was their physical prowess. They could lift boulders and stomp a hole in the ground, they were faster than most people and extremely durable, but that usually never mattered when you fought giant monsters. Plus, they were great with a bow. It felt weird to hunt without one. Maybe when this was over they would purchase one if they were paid well enough. The elf folded the paper and placed it back into their pocket before making their way to the heart of Crocus. The streets were filled per usual with people who were dressed as if they had somewhere important to be. There was the occasional less fortunate person begging for money, but nothing out of the ordinary.

They did notice that there were no elves on the street, which meant that the elves took the warning to heart. It was a good thing too, because nothing was worse than a baby dying or being eaten by a giant hawk. There was a time when elves were treated with as much respect as they were treated with today. Under King Reigns rule a lot of injustice had been dealt with. The country really was plunged into a much brighter era. Ale didn't know much about King Reign and they didn't really bother to care when they were being taught about him in school, but they knew that their father was a big fan, which meant that Reign was a pretty decent man. Even though Yunta didn't agree with their father when it came to basically any and everything, they knew that their father wasn't a totally shit person so if he liked Reign, then so did they.

Human children both demi and otherwise ran about, enjoying the summer sun and their break from school. Musicians played melodic tunes on the street for coin and there were some vendors cooking food to sell to tourists. Crocus was such a populated place filled to the brim with people from all different types of backgrounds. This is why Alejandro loved the city sometimes. It was the people.Other times they absolutely hated it because there were no trees and other plant life was scarce but they were happy to be back in the capital. Finally they found their way to the center of the city, deciding to just stand around in their work gear and wait. They sure did wish they had a spliff right about now. Their gaze rested within the clouds as they searched for an obviously large avian creature flying around. They noticed how the people would walk past and look at them as if they were crazy for being outside.

Everyone got the memo but them it seems. Still, they weren't worried. Instead they patiently waited. Their eyes were good at spotting things out of the ordinary since they had spent so much time hunting when they'd visit family in the north. Alejandro wouldn't give up though. In the middle of the streets they stuck out like a sore thumb for a number of reasons, but people began to realize that they were looking for the creature they had all heard about. After about ten minutes of staring they saw something behind the clouds. One person who had also been looking up pointed to the sky. "It's a bird!" they said. Then another person looked up. "It's a ship!" and then finally The Page spoke, "No...it's a giant elf eating avian monster, everybody run!!" They shouted just as the creature began to reveal itself from behind the white pillow-like clouds.

Suddenly the townsfolk began to scream and scramble in fear. Some of them knew what was coming because it had been haunting them for the last few days, others were just following the crowd as they should have. When you see people running, you run too. No questions asked; that's what Alejandro was taught by their mother. Of course that was when they were much much younger. Now Alejandro would never run. They were a warrior spirit by nature. The Avian creature in the sky cawed as it dove down. What was odd was that this monster was coming directly for the only elf in the streets. It had to have some elf sensing abilities, or some extremely gifted sight to see their pointed ears from thousands of feet in the sky. Alejandro prepared themselves. They kept a cool and collective mind much like they usually did and when the Avian came close, they leapt out of the way.

The giant bird was some sort of mix between a vulture and a spider. It had two wings but about eight legs and boy was it hungry. It turned to roar at the people fleeing, knocking down vendors and carriages with its wings. It also seemed to be easily distracted or searching for more elven youth closer to where it was. After no more than twenty seconds though, its focus was back on the Savannan. Quickly the avian creature moved towards them, its legs adding to how swift it was. Alejandro waited until it was close enough and leaned forward before throwing their fist into its beak and sending it back into an empty establishment. They were testing the creature. It removed itself from the rubble and roared before flapping its wings and moving towards them again.Alejandro turned to run, allowing it to rampage a bit more. This was all part of the job.

The Avian creature cawed in frustration, hungry and ready to devour the swift elf that had been playing with it. This creature wasn't that hard to handle at all, mostly it was the people that they had been worried about. Monsters like this one were truly unpredictable. The reports said that this creature only had a taste for elven youth, but animals also get desperate enough to shift their diet. Suddenly from behind them the creature spit out a web and caught Ale in it. The elf fell to the ground. Their legs had been caught in the web but their top half was still free. Web shooter, check. The Avian reached its prey and opened its beak, revealing four tongues before leaning over to devour Alejandro. The Stellan grabbed both sides of its beak with their hands and used all of their strength to keep it from lowering onto their head.

"Whew, you've gotta take better care of your mouth." Alejandro said before tossing the creature to the side. Quickly they used their strength to rip off the webs. There wasn't much time. The creature was back on its feet and coming towards them once more. Finally the young Celdrua stood to their feet and decided to end this. Play time was over. There was no more notes needed, they knew everything they needed to know about this creature. They could only hope that their superiors would be satisfied. The creature roared towards Alejandro and the sorcerer leapt into the air just as the creature missed them, doing a somersault with their leg extended and dropping their heel onto the creatures head, slamming it into the pavement. The monster was out for the count. A platoon of Rune Knights began to approach, probably to help, but the deed had been done.

"Wait, you're that Celdrua Page. How did you-" a Lieutenant asked
"Captain Kyro sent me, I dunno."
"Captain Kyro?"
"Yeah, but like can you help me bring this thing back to em?"
