There she was, standing and overlooking the Great Baska Rock. Her eyes remained glued to the colosseum from which the sounds of cheers and roars invaded the silence that she so craved, even at the distance where she stood. It was quite a popular place in Baska, especially for those that loved to fight and even more so for those that loved to watch others' fights. While the vampire considered herself to be the latter, she was here for a different reason today. Her previous experience in this place was not as enlightening as she had expected although it did lead to an unexpected relationship that crumbled as quickly as it was built. However, her focus of the day was not on her own memories but on the latest victor. She was quite aware of the client that often hired mercenaries to defeat long-standing victors to keep things interesting, to say the least.

Valeria was usually not interested in who won or who lost. She simply enjoyed watching others fight and if they did so with their lives on the line, it made it all the more interesting to her. The act of simply watching allowed her to take herself out of the scene, much like retreating to a safe space. However, she had realized that it was high time for her to step out of the benches and onto the dancefloor. She made her way towards the colosseum. The reason she decided to undertake the task of dethroning the victor was because she was made aware that he was a vampire. From the rumours she had heard, it seemed as if he was quite violent with his fights, using his inhumane strength to kill his opponents and then proceeding to bleed them dry. For people who weren't used to such as sight, everyone was quite distraught.

They sought to have him removed from the tournament. The vampire was even made aware that she would be paid extra if she were to kill him, which was no problem at all to her. Granted they weren't too happy to see her considering that she, too, belonged to the same race as the fiend that they wished to get rid of but perhaps it was that very fact that granted them the liberty to freely sent her off onto the battlefield after countless others who had witnessed their own demise. After all, as a monster, her life was only worth so much to those humans and it would serve as no problem whatsoever if another one of such creatures were to disappear off the face of Fiore. It was going to be a fight to the death, resulting in the end of at least one of their lives, if not both.

She sauntered towards her destination. The loud cheers and roars grew louder with each passing second and being the center of it reminded her of why she absolutely hated it. Walking into a dark tunnel through which she was led, she looked straight ahead at the wooden door that stood before her. From the walls, the sounds of the anticipating crowd reverberated and vibrated through her body. As the voice of the announcer boomed, announcing the emergence of another vampire here to dethrone the victor, the doors began to open. The crowd didn't seem too pleased but just enough to cheer at the prospect of someone, anyone defeating the monster before them. As the door opened, light slipped through the wooden opening and shined brightly on her face. She hated the light, which was not surprising considering that she was a creature of darkness, used to living and thriving in the absence of light.

It didn't burn her or any such thing but she disliked the warm feeling that was left lingering on her skin. She much rather preferred the cold air as it often appeased her internal burning rage. Once her crimson gaze adjusted to the bright light, she looked around, taking in the view of the crowd that, from her position, looked like tiny little insects clustered together. It was probably entertainment for them, sitting there and watching two monsters fight each other. Valeria didn't need a job to kill a vampire but if she was going to do it anyway, being paid for it wasn't a bad deal for her at all. That was the sole purpose of her being there. Sighing at how troublesome it was, she looked towards the center of the ring where her opponent waited for her, relishing in the chants of disapproval from the audience before him.

His haughty nature was on display as he sauntered around, raising his arms as if basking in the sun and the grunts of those who watched him. It was as if their disapproval meant nothing to him because he was going to win anyway. He looked like a typical vampire. His pale skin was white underneath the sunlight, making him seem even more undead than normal while his sleek, black hair contrasted his skin, giving him an almost ghostly appearance. Valeria had seen enough vampires in her life to know what they generally looked like but the man before her looked much more beastly. His fangs were longer and sharper and so were his nails. Everything about him screamed of his status as a hunter but she wasn't scared. It was quite the contrary actually. She had killed far too many of her own kind to feel any kind of fear or remorse anymore.

She hated the way vampires looked, so much that she occasionally felt relieved that she could not see herself. After looking at the man before her, Valeria started to wonder if she too, looked as lifeless and beastly as that. In a way, it made her feel disgusting as if something unpleasant was crawling up her skin. She observed her opponent, who was dawned in nothing except a pair of pants. It was almost as if he was screaming for others to accept how strong he was, indicating that he needed nothing more than his bare hands to pummel his opponents to the ground. Based on his previous record, he wasn't exactly wrong. She had been warned that she might need weapons but the silver-haired woman was also someone who, despite not being a fan of it, relied on her own superhuman monstrosity. Pulling off the black jacket as she walked towards the center of the ring, she threw it to the side.

Underneath the jacket, she wore a black tank top that revealed her toned muscles. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail and her legs were covered in a pair of pants that extended into a simple pair of combat boots to allow for easy mobility. The soles of her shoes dug into the sandy stage as the wind picked up specks of dust and thrust them all around. Her opponent locked eyes with her. That crimson gaze, eerily similar to her own enraged her. He seemed to be surprised that his opponent was a vampire, which he soon displayed with his words as he droned on about his surprise that another vampire would be interested in such a thing. He went on to say that humans were much more fun to kill but having been deprived of a challenge thus far, he wouldn't mind fighting another of his kind.

Valeria just disliked that annoying smug expression that rested on his face. Every word he uttered entered through one ear and was out the other. She could not care less about what he had to say because she was not here to listen to his reasons. Nay, she was here to kill him and take the reward. It would be even better if she were able to extract some information from him. These days, she had decided to change her methods of approaching her revenge. Simply killing vampires was getting her nowhere except the temporary haven of peace from the burning rage within her heart. Her new method would require more information that she would have to gather and once she has that, she would be one step closer to accomplishing the goal that she had lived this long for. Shaking away from those thoughts, she brought her attention back to the man before her.

As the sound of the gun piercing through the sky invaded her ears, signaling for the match to start, she braced herself for an attack. After all, her opponent did not seem like someone who would wait around for someone to attack him. Rather, he seemed to be the type of person who dived head first into fights. That was merely an assumption made on her part. However, the moment the sound reached their ears, he did indeed lunge forward, proving her prediction of his movements based on the vibe she picked from him to be true. As he moved towards her, she stepped to the right, letting him move past her but he quickly stopped himself next to her position, turning his body to land a punch on her. He was fast, she would give him that but he wasn't as fast as her. Nevertheless, she decided to not move.

Lifting her adjacent hand, she held off his punch, grabbing his fist in her palms. The impact sent a rushing pain through her arm, traveling from her palm to her wrist, all the way up to her upper arm. He was quite strong, she had to admit. Even her physical strength did little to prevent her from feeling its impact. She winced for a second before ignoring the pain and grasping onto his fist. She pulled him towards her as she raised her other arm, bringing it down on his now outstretched one. The sound of his bone-cracking underneath her elbow entered her ears but before he could let out a scream, she lifted her leg and slammed it against his exposed torso. The impact sent him flying a few meters away from her. He screamed while clutching his elbow but the lack of blood visible was almost disheartening for her.

Before he had the chance to start rambling on about his agony, she lunged forward toward him, pulling her fist back as she did. Once she was close enough, she halted her step and let the momentum guide her arm towards his face. It was oddly satisfying watching her fist collide with his face. The impact caused his flesh to graze against his own sharp fangs, creating wounds that oozed blood as his nose also let out some of the crimson liquid. She pulled her hand back, rubbing it over her pants as his teeth had also grazed her skin, causing a small cut to be visible across her pale skin. It was disgusting to her, to have to touch something belonging to another vampire, even if it were unwillingly. While most vampires lived themselves, Valeria hated her kind and she had no intentions of hiding it, not back then and definitely not now.

In the mere moments that it took for those actions to occur, the crowd started cheering louder. Their loud roars reverberated through the air and gave her a sense of power. It did boost her confidence when she looked at the fallen image of the so-called victor before her. He sat on the ground as the fabric of his pants picked up pieces of sand, giving it a dirty and ashy look. The fear was visible in his eyes but he tried desperately to hide it. She was genuinely curious as to how this weak man retained the title of champion. The last time she had been here, her opponent was a lot stronger and a lot more formidable but he also was not there to simply win. He was there to cause a scene and he did, earning her some troublesome requests to undertake similar jobs due to her perceived strength.

He tried to get back up, rambling on about something regarding how she was probably a vampire who had lived longer than him and hence, had more time to accumulate power. She could not even bother to listen to what he said before she threw another punch, causing him to fall back down. Looming over him, she punched him once and then again and then again. She repeated it until his jaw, swollen and bruised, did not move anymore. Perhaps he truly ruled over the ring with nothing but fear. Valeria knew that she was far from attaining true power. The results of the match were dependent on her physical prowess which was quite average when compared to most adventurers and mages across the region. However, for her to win so easily, she suspected the involvement of foul play. As her fists collided with his face, her mind wandered back to before the match.

She was offered some sort of a drink, something to calm her nerves but being a vampire, there really was not much that she could intake besides blood and so, she refused. However, not everyone would have refused such a drink. It raised suspicions in her mind which she voiced out, halting from beating him up to letting him answer her question. In a state of fear, he nodded, offering to spill all the information in return for her sparing his life. From what she gathered from his words, someone was behind the scenes, rigging the match to spread this fear of vampires because fear was the greatest tool for power. Her opponent was nothing more than a chess piece, made to follow the orders of the actual player. As he spilled all the secrets, she listened while the crowd booed at her odd stop from pummelling him to the ground.

He did provide her with some interesting information and she thanked him for it. The momentary relief in his eyes was short-lived though as she raised her hand. This time, however, it was not formed into a fist. Her palm was flat as her hand laid open with her nails at the forefront, acting as a blade. Before he could yell, she pierced her way into her chest. Splatters of blood were sent flying, landing on her dark clothes and her pale skin as her nails pierced through his flesh. Widening her hand, she grasped onto his heart and yanked it out. For a moment, the crowd was silent as he fell to the ground in a lifeless fashion. Channelling her mana into her hand, she watched the heart get set on fire, and as it did, so did the man's body. Everybody watched it disintegrate into nothing, blending in with the sand. He left behind nothing but the cloth that adorned his body. After a momentary silence, the crowd began cheering as she simply picked up her jacket and proceeded to leave. She had done them a favour and rid them of the vampire that ruled over the tournament but the real player was far from caught.
