Now that the ritual was finally completed by the cultists and the immediate danger had been dealt with, Gundar had begun to relax his guard, ending his defensive spell he used to shield himself from the swords of the two priests that had dared to try and strike him. He had to admit, he was still feeling a tinge of pain as some drops of blood had trickled out of the minor wounds from his arms. He would shrug it off and turn to the cultists and once again, reiterate the deal between them. Making gestures and hand movements, Gundar had explained to them the terms of getting them out safely which required payment. Getting in was easy but getting out would prove much more difficult as they couldn't go back the way they came. They would have to go through a maze-like dungeon further in to get out since they were not priests of this church's sect.

The two of them were standing there as the way back was now blocked off. Even if the way back wasn’t blocked off and they could find the mechanism used to open the large sliding door, the exit would be swarming with priests at this point, and although Keita was confident in dealing with a few priests at a time, a large mass of them was something he couldn’t do, especially because his magic power wasn’t really up to snuff. He needed to get stronger faster, and so he definitely needed to hurry up here. Gundar seemed to try to explain the things to them, and that was that the cultists would have to pay them. The cultists weren’t really getting it, so Keita smoothed it over. “We can take you out, but you’re going to pay us for extra services.” Keita said, before simply sitting there, but the cultists were quick to agree, before looking towards the catacombs.

Now that the cultists had agreed to their terms, Gundar had also nodded in agreement. Their only way was forward, through perilous traps and other nonsensical danger they may or may not have to face. On top of that, they were still being hunted down by the very priests they had come to put an end to. Walking forward, Gundar had gestured to the rest of the company to go through the only option available to them. It was a fairly long and wide path so it was easy for all of them to walk in a formation that would keep them the most vigilant from enemy attacks. With Gundar being in the vanguard, should something appear In front of them, he would be ready to charge in with his earth magic, which he had decided he would set up once more by touching the ground and coating his skin with the earthen properties of the cavern to defend himself.

The alchemist type person agreed to the extra money for the two of them to escort the group out of the catacombs. Keita nodded to Gundar when he motioned for all of them to head down the passageway. The passageway was dark, and while Gundar could get away with having darkvision, people would know that Keita is something other than human if he was perfectly fine in the dark, and so he chose to light up a torch and hand it to the cultist in the middle of the group. Keita was bringing up the rear of the group, putting the others in front of him so that any sneak attacks from the rear would be taken care of. There were too many times when Keita had heard of a party getting ambushed. They headed through the long tunnel before it started to open up into a wide rectangular room that seemed to have coffins in it.

Continuing along the path the had entered the rectangular room with the coffins in it, the company had stumbled upon four different paths to take in order to progress in their little escape. Gundar grunted as this was normally a trivial matter for him being used to living underground although it was a bit too warm for his liking here when compared to Icebergia. Normally, he'd be able to just feel out which path would have the most likely option of getting them out of this cave but it seems that something down here was dulling his senses. He didn't know if it was because this was a burial ground of some sort and he was being haunted or cursed but he couldn't focus properly. He decided to rely on good old fashion luck and choose a path for the company to go through. Taking the leftmost path, Gundar figured it wouldn't hurt to try as he was having the best feeling from this particular path than any of the others.

Keita stepped into the creepy looking room, looking at the coffins within it. The coffins were some sort of matte black color, with some sort of engravings on them, most likely the names of the deceased from a long-forgotten language. Still, they would try to avoid the coffins, and came to see that there were three paths in the room, four if one included where they had come from. Keita looked around and saw that the pathways were not all completely straight, as he could not see though to the other side, so he had no idea how long the branching pathways were or what was there. Since there was no way that they could figure it out without putting one or more of themselves in danger, Keita simply walked towards thee right path, going to use a tried and true method of escaping mazes. If you simply hug the right wall, eventually you will find the exit.

Heading through the leftmost path, it seems Keita has decided he would take the rightmost path which was fine with him. He was confident each of them could hold their own if danger should come their way. Focusing on heading down the path, he knows he shouldn't venture too far in unless he wanted to be separated from the group he was to protect and his partner for this mission. Going forward, he could see a little light at the end of the tunnel which would lead him to the next destination of the catacombs. Up ahead however, he could hear the shouting of some priests fighting off some undead, yelling at acolytes below him to find the intruders and make sure they didn't leave this crypt alive. This made Gundar silently grunt since he hadn't been detected by them yet. He decided he would go back and inform the others of what transpired down that hall.

Keita watched as Gundar headed off ahead alone as Keita and the cultists stayed put for now. It seemed that they were extra careful or perhaps they were just afraid, but they had been quiet the whole time, which was really good. Keita wanted to thank them for being quiet so that he could properly survey and listen to his surroundings, but he felt that it would just be slightly patronizing at this point, so he refrained from doing so. After a minute or so, Gundar came back and informed them that there were priests up ahead and that the priests had set out an order that no one would be able to leave alive, which was a bit annoying. They could easily use hit and run tactics against the priests though, so it wasn’t too bad, but Keita just wanted to go home at this point. Keita nodded before slowly and cautiously walking to the next area.

treading back carefully to the group of cultists, he had informed them they wouldn't be going down the path he had just come back from just yet unless it was absolutely necessary. He had then looked around to see Keita hadn't been here yet and wondered if he hadn't come back from whichever path he had selected. Confused, Gundar had verbally asked the cultists if Keita had come back to which they had responded, "Yes." This made Gundar grunt and one of the cultists had pointed in the direction Keita had gone to before. Deciding he wasn't very patient, he would instruct Keita and the cultists to follow him into the path where Keita had stepped towards in hopes of getting out of here. it may or may not be the right way but staying here was off the table from what he had just heard. As much as he likes fighting, he couldn't do it freely if he had a client to defend.

Keita cautiously made his way down one of the corridors in front of him, and checked behind him a couple of times to make sure that everyone was still within sight. The group was huddled together and slowly made their way forward, and son there was a room that had a lot of different sarcophogi and old paintings in it. The room wasn’t decorated with the paintings, they were just stacked up around the room as if they were a person’s belongings stuffed into storage. With the ample amount of things in the room, it was difficult to really see through the room and to the other sides to see if there were any paths. Soon, Keita heard that there were priests roaming around, a second set of feet hitting the ground around them in the room. Due to the objects in the room, the group could probably sneak past if they wanted to.

Walking cautiously and treading as lightly as he could, Gundar had hoped he would be able to get these people out of here, not because of their well being or safety but because he could get their money from their pockets. Soon they had come across another room with some sarcophagi in there along with some paintings. Gundar was a bit curious about the paintings and wondered if they would be worth anything but its a shame he didn't have time to examine them thoroughly, as he walked towards them to touch. The sound of footsteps could be heard around them but that's not all, when Gundar had touched the painting, the sarcophagi lid had begun to move as the undead inside had pushed the lid open, dropping onto the floor with a loud thud. This would no doubt alert the priests to their location now but they had another problem of four skeletons emerging from their graves.

Keita and the group were walking through the area, slowly trying not to draw that much attention to themselves, but things never proceeded smoothly, at least not for bad guys like them, and soon there was the tell tale sign of something going wrong, as the creaky sliding of the stone lids was heard throughout the relatively quiet room. The priests seemed to have heard it obviously, as the sound of footsteps had stopped as the coffin lids slowly slid off of the coffins in an aerie manner, before four slightly larger than average skeletons popped out, slowly getting up as their boney fingers peeked above the lip of the coffin. As they got out, the priests seemed to be alarmed, as they started to conjure their light balls at the skeletons. Keita wondered if they should just avoid all of this, when one of the four skeletons that popped up started heading towards them.

It seems nothing was going right for the group now as the priests had made it into the room as the larger than normal skeletons began to swing at anything that wasn't one of them indiscriminately. The priests also seem more focused on the skeletons rather than them. Maybe they were mistaken for graverobbers by both parties but it wasn't in Gundar's place to refute any of these claims. When the priests were firing at the skeletons, the skeletons seem to have focused more of their attention on them rather than Gundar who initially touched the painting so Gundar used this time to grunt and point to the way that led further out. As much as he loved a good free for all brawl, he loved money and drinking just a tad bit more as he gestured to the group of cultists and Keita to come this way with one arm and pointing with the other.

Gundar had figured out that the skeletons seemed to be going after the priests more than them, and so he grunted and pointed towards another direction. Keita looked around and noticed that this way was pretty good, but they still needed to take care of the one skeleton that was coming towards them. Keita decided that he would do something that would simply push the skeleton to the other side of the room, as the simple undead that were being summoned here didn’t have any sort of tactics or intelligence, and so when Keita shoved them to the other side of the room, the first thing the skeleton would notice was the group of priests, and so they could just let them fight it out amongst themselves. Keita readied a spell and as the group were slinking forward, he used a pressurized jet of water to simply push the skeleton away from them as they ran past.

Heading the group into the direction Gundar was pointing in, Gundar had noticed one of the skeletons bounding towards them. Unfortunately, Gundar didn't have any means of dealing with this one directly as most of the spells he knows are for close-range combat. Fortunately for him, he didn't have to deal with it as Keita was already on it. using his water magic, he would push the pursuing skeleton back to where the priests were battling the rest until its focus was back on them. With that, they had successfully escaped a fairly bad situation. However, it wouldn't take long for the priests to deal with the skeletons and be right back on their tail so Gundar had the group pick up the pace a little bit. Running forward, it wasn't long until Gundar could hear the cries and yells of the familiar priest he had heard earlier, yelling the same orders as he did last time. They might not have much choice on the matter of when they need to fight.

The p[riests were now battling all four of the skeletons, but they were perfectly suited for doing this, so it was going to be a rapid conclusion on their part. Gundar figured this out as well, and so he headed towards the next area with a renewed vigor. They all started heading out quickly, with Keita falling back to the rear again to make sure that the cultists they were escorting were actually moving quickly. He had to light a fire under their asses, metaphorically, as they obviously had no idea that their goal and mission would get this bad. Keita kept heading with the group when they heard the familiar barking of orders from what he assumed was the head priest. As soon as they heard the order, they were already nearing the next area, which was some sort of study. It was ancient, with dusty and moldy books everywhere, and a strange skeleton sitting in a seat at a desk.

Hurrying along with the group in tow, it seems they had come across what looks like an ancient study. Gundar had grunted at this as he thought humans thought putting certain rooms like this underground was distasteful. Even more so since they were in some catacombs. Well, he didn't have the luxury to think anymore on such a trivial matter so he would just look around to see if there was a way out of this place. Looking at the seat where the skeleton was, he had fully expected it to stand up and try to fight them but to his surprise, it hadn't. At least, not yet. Giving a little shrug, he'd continue to try and find his way out of this place as he could hear the sound of a few pairs of footsteps getting louder and louder as he did so. It was only a matter of time before the priests had showed up.

As they entered the study, Keita looked around and noticed there were small runes on the floor, and so he gestured for everyone to stop moving while pointing to the runes. The runes were obviously left down here to try and trap people, and it seemed that the cultists knew of these runes and nodded. Essentially anyone trying to take the books in this place would most likely step on the runes, which would cause some sort of negative effect towards the thief. Keita assumed it had something to do with necromancy, so maybe the skeleton would come to life and kill them, or perhaps they would have some sort of enfeebling curse. Either way, Keita looked very carefully at the floor and told the cultists to hide. He signaled to Gundar with his eyes, and got ready to ambush the priests when they entered the room and tripped the traps that were there.

Looking around the room, Gundar didn't really see anything that he didn't see before. However, it seems Keita had spotted some strange runes on the floor near the bookshelves. He wasn't entirely sure what they were for but he assumed it was a trap of some kind when Keita had informed everybody to avoid the runes. Gundar had decided to heed his words and remain still. He wasn't sure what was gonna happen next but he had hoped whatever it was, he had hoped it would be in their favor. Touching the ground beneath him, away from the runes. Gundar decided to coat himself in earth magic just in case things went awry. After the events had been said and done, Gundar would continue to look for a way out until they eventually found one and made it back to the surface. When they made it back, Gundar had decided it was time for the cultists to pay up before heading back to the client.

Keita waited with his breath held for a little while for the priests to resume chasing them. The priests were already pretty close to them, so when they ran into this room and carefully hid in the surroundings, the priests were just about at their location. Keita was preparing to start up a magic circle as soon as he saw them, because it would be too obvious and draining to hold a magic circle right around the corner. The situation turned for the chaotic when the priests actually broke into the room. The priests immediately ran in and looked around, and started to see Keita and Gundar ready for the ambush. They were about to react by throwing the light spheres at them from their staves, but suddenly the runes that they had stepped on lit up. The books in the room started to glow, and both parties seemed to stop for a moment and look at their surroundings.
