Ziann
After suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of El Tigre in a Fight Club match in the Crimson Quarter, Ziann knew he was going to have to get stronger. His training swelled his physical prowess to better than before, but he still needed more. He was going to have to develop better spells and more effective tactics if he was going to ever take down El Tigre. The champion of the ring was a tough fighter with a lot of Self Buff magic. Ziann hadn't even been able to hit him hard enough to make El Tigre flinch or draw out the use of his magic. It had been a humiliating loss in front of the two opponents he had previously defeated, the second of which he barely beat.

Where better to train and develop new spells than in the ring of a different fight club? Fighting and finding new needs as he went? He had a good grasp on his initial magic spells and wanted to create newer, better ones. His mana reserves had increased from his exercise, so he was sure that he could maintain more powerful spells. The fight club he was at was definitely less well maintained than the one El Tigre was champion of, so Ziann felt that he could take his time here, get the feel for new magic that would take experimentation and failure before he mastered. He hopped into the ring and faced off against his first opponent, a man with long blonde hair. They faced each other and began to circle the ring. Ziann's opponent suddenly stood straight up and a gray magical circle grew from underneath him. It appeared to be the same size as the twister from the Twin Tornadoes, a B-rank spell.

As the spell took effect, strangely enough without the man calling out the name of the spell, a shimmering yellow field surrounded him. A full body shield, eh? That would require something bigger or sharper than the Breeze or Gust ranged attacks that Ziann had mastered. It would require something else.

Ziann
The mute man just smiled with a "come at me bro" kind of look. Ziann examined his magical shield a little closer and found no gaps or weaknesses. He'd have to brute force it. He would first try his existing spells. "Wind Make: Breeze! Wind Make: Gust!" In one hand he generated a small ball of wind that he could just flick with his wrist at the mute. In the other hand, he generated a larger ball of wind that he needed his whole arm to throw forwards. The two spells flew forwards and struck the man square in the chest. He didn't flinch, dodge, or otherwise try to avoid the spells. The shield tanked both projectiles and still managed to stay up.

Suddenly, very surprisingly, the mute man stopped sustaining his spell. Now he was open for attack, so Ziann began to charge him. There was a twinkle in the mute's eye and he snapped his fingers as Ziann got close. A necklace he was wearing glowed slightly and the full body shield appeared again just as strong as it had started. Somehow he was able to prepare the spell faster than Ziann could prepare his own spells for recast. This was troublesome, and while Ziann punched the spell anyways to see how much damage he could do to it, it really hurt to punch a solid object like that.

He gave it all his might and punched twice, landing enough damage on it that the shield shut off. A third punch went to the mute's jaw and cut his lip, but that was about all the damage Ziann could do before he had to back off and defend himself against the mute's counter. Ziann was hit a few times in the stomach before again the shield came up at full power. This was challenging, and would need more power than Ziann had imagined.

Ziann
Ziann now knew that he would need enough power to get through the magic shield in one go. If his Gust spell in addition to his Breeze spell couldn't get through it, but two punches could, then he'd need something with the power of two Gust spells. Or, something that could deal as much damage as a punch with an added and equivalent boost of magical damage. Ziann had an idea. If he could make a weapon that he could swing, he could hit hard with his own strength as well as the strength of his wind magic. But what would be the best form for it to take? A club would be too time consuming to form, having too much mass. A blade could work though, being just a thin strip of sharp wind.

Placing his ring finger down to his palm, Ziann channeled wind magic through his hand like he was shaping a Buckler spell, but this time he kept it contained and very thin and sharp. "Wind Make: Dagger!" The blade of wind held steady for the moment, but it wouldn't last long before it dissipated. Ziann charged and stabbed at the shield. The blade struck it with full force, shattering the magic and leaving the mute open. Ziann stomped down on the other guy's foot, kneed his opponent in the groin with the other leg, then gave him a good strong left into the gut.

On his way back out of the man's space, he grabbed at the necklace and ripped it off of the mute. Casting it aside, now the mute would have to play fair and prepare his spells at a normal mage's rate. This left Ziann with the advantage, as the mute was in pain in multiple places and couldn't get his shield up in time to avoid more blows. The wind make mage soon finished off this first opponent and readied himself for the next bout where he undoubtedly would need a new spell as well.

Ziann
Ziann's next opponent was a small, lithe being. He had pointed ears on top of his head and a long bushy tail. "I've fought a dwarf and two elves... What now? What are you?" The being in the other corner cocked his head curiously and quipped with a high pitched voice. "Neko. Nekomata I am." Ziann had never met a Nekomata, but he definitely had a comment to make. "So... Your mother was a squirrel?" This started to enrage the Neko who moved to tackle Ziann to the floor. Ziann was caught off guard by the way the other guy moved. He was completely soundless, and moved with extreme balance and grace.

Ziann was tackled to the ground, but the Neko wasn't very physically strong and the desperate attack was more an inconvenience than actually damaging. Ziann noted that it was probably best to not call a Nekomata the child of an animal. He pushed off the squirrel-man and scrambled to his feet. Ziann took a swing at the Neko but the guy was fast. He bounced up to the ropes and scurried across them with impeccable balance. Fast and incredibly dexterous, this opponent would be difficult to match in physical blows. Magic would be necessary, for sure, but Ziann's existing spells would be easily dodged. The dagger wouldn't be of any use if he couldn't strike true and the projectile spells he knew would easily miss.

Ziann gathered up mana in his hand and tried to come up with a solution. As he thought, the Neko copied the mana production and beat Ziann to the punch, a small yellow magical circle forming before a thin blast of lightning firing forwards in a straight line. "Byakurai!" Whatever that spell was called, it hurt as it pierced through Ziann's left shoulder. "Ow..." Now with one arm hindered slightly, Ziann was going to have to come up with a new spell quickly before he got hit by any more of that really fast lightning.

Ziann
The Nekomata danced across the ropes of the ring, laughing as he did so with a melodic ring to his voice. "You'll never hit me!" Scowling, Ziann knew it to be true, he could never hit the guy with his current repertoire of spells. He would need something that could move in unexpected directions or just straight up move in general. Ziann had an idea, but he wasn't quite sure how to implement it fully. He could make a small, sharp blade of wind like he had done with his Dagger technique, but anchor it to his hand and direct it where it needed to go. Getting into his casting stance, with his ring finger pressed into his palm, Ziann tried to come up with a name for what he was about to do. It probably was best as a weapon theme like with the dagger...

"Wind Make: Whip!"

The sharp barb of wind was formed and Ziann let it trail out and stay connected to his hand as he threw it towards the Nekomata. As expected, the squirrel man dodged it nimbly as it moved in a straight line. Ziann quickly jerked his hand to the right, though, having the whip zig in that direction as well. Having to zag to stay out of the way, the Neko started to sweat as Ziann continued to follow him with the whip as he made gestures with his hand. It took some getting used to in order to learn how the spell would move as he moved his hand, but Ziann was quickly mastering the movements to the point where the Nekomata was really being pressured.

Zigging and Zagging until the Neko was cornered at the top of the pole holding the ropes, Ziann thrust his hand forwards and caught his opponent square in the chest with the sharp barb of wind. Piercing through his body, the blade caused the Neko to cough up blood on the mat and fall off the edge of the ring onto the ground. The whip dissipated as it pierced through, leaving nothing for the squirrel man to hold onto and he fell down hard onto the ground, defeated.

"Speed isn't everything..."

Ziann
A burly human stepped into the ring after the Nekomata fell. "You won't be laughing much when I hit you..." His voice was strangely feminine, but he definitely had the appearance of a big muscular man. No matter, Ziann wasn't the judging kind. Much. "We'll see about that." A red magical circle appeared around the man's forearm as he began to cast. "Flame Magic: Fist of Fiery Dooooooooooooooooom!" This was going to be a dramatic fight, that was for sure. Still nursing his left arm from where the lightning strike had hit earlier, Ziann prepared his own spell by forming wind with his right hand over his left arm. "Wind Make: Buckler!"

Protecting the weakened left arm with the shield of solid wind, Ziann moved forwards even as his opponent's arm burst into flames that didn't seem to harm him. This guy looked really muscular, but could his attack harm Ziann's shield much? He'd have to find out. Advancing towards the fire drama queen, Ziann swung a right hook at the man's jaw even as the other guy swung his right hook at Ziann's shield. The fire struck the shield, broke it, broke Ziann's arm, and sent the wind mage flying backwards towards the ropes of the ring. Wow, that hurt! Arm hanging loosely at his side, he winced as he felt the bones fracture dig into his flesh and set off all the pain receptors.

He was going to need another spell, as usual, this time something with a lot more defensive power. His left arm was useless to him right now, which was tolerable only because he was used to casting with his right hand more often. Struggling back to his feet after having been knocked down, he immediately ceased underestimating the fiery dramatic guy. That punch could have ended him if it hadn't needed to go through his shield first...

Ziann
Ziann needed to not get hit by that fist of fiery doooooom again. Or anything like it. "Impressive, to survive the Fist of Fiery Dooooooooom. Usually that one-shots my opponents. You're tougher than you look!" Wincing through the broken bones in his left arm, Ziann coughed out a chuckle. "I'd say the same about you, but you look mighty tough already." The two shared a laugh and started circling the ring again. Ziann with his arm hanging limply at his side, the other guy not even scratched. This was probably going to be Ziann's last fight in this tournament, what with the level of damage he had sustained, so he needed to go all out in mastering his new Magics.

Another red circle appeared on his opponent's arm, this one smaller than the last. Thankfully the spell wasn't as powerful as the Fist of Fiery Dooooooom, but it looked like it still was going to be a hard punch to stop, what with the man's impressive physical strength behind it. "Flame Magic: Fist of Fiery Pain!" As Ziann watched the man rush towards him, he was trying to come up with a plan. For now, he needed to avoid the attack and try and wear this guy out, burn out his mana reserves. "Wind Make: Spring!"

Forming a small ball of wind in his right hand with his signature hand sign, he threw it at the ground and jumped onto it, pushing off the ground and leaping much higher than a normal jump should have been capable of. Ziann soared over the head of the muscular man, front flipping through the air just because he could.  This would only delay the inevitable though, as Ziann could only evade his attacker for so long. He'd need a plan, and he'd need it fast. For now, he'd focus on surviving.

Ziann
Landing on the ground from his front flip, Ziann spun around and just barely managed to dodge the back hand swing of the Fist of Fiery Pain. Not wanting to burn himself out on sustaining a spell that wouldn't hit, Ziann's opponent let go of the flame spell and prepared a different one. "Flame Magic: Flying Fist of Fiery Doom!" The spell's circle started to form and Ziann just cocked his head in confusion. "What, no dramatic flair to this one?" Very serious now, for some reason, the other guy didn't laugh, just focused. "You won't be laughing when this one hits you, for sure!"

Ziann had to come up with a response right now. From the size of the magic circle and the name of the spell, he could assume that this was going to be a powerful ranged attack. Summoning as much wind as he could through his right arm, he slid it down the useless left arm and formed a bigger, stronger shield than the one he had used before. What was a shield bigger than a buckler? This one wasn't too big yet, so it couldn't be called a kite shield or a tower shield, so it could only have one name that Ziann could think of off the top of his head. "Wind Make: Targe!"

Charging forwards with his shield in front of his body, Ziann watched as the Flying Fist of Fiery Doom did indeed start flying towards him as a ranged attack. He totally called it. The defensive shield managed to bear the brunt of the attack and stay just barely holding up, allowing Ziann to charge in and get a good solid punch to the other man's jaw. Spit and a little blood came out as the man's head snapped to the side, but he stood standing still. "That all you got?" Ziann was simply pushed over onto the ground in response.

Now that he'd defended himself, he needed to come up with something powerful enough to take this guy out in one blow.

Ziann
At the edge of the ropes, figuratively and literally, Ziann knew he had to go all out in order to put down the drama queen if he wanted to finish this tournament in a decent standing. Giving it all he had, Ziann charged at his opponent with right hand in his signature casting position. "Wind Make: Dagger!" Forming the long, thin blade of wind, Ziann sent it crashing down towards the other man and watched as it broke against the man's forearm in a shower of sparks and wisps of flame. "Weak!" The man followed up with a knee to the Wind Make Mage's gut, causing him to double over in pain and barely manage to stay standing.

"Not... Done... Yet..." Still in this thing, Ziann focused all of his magical energies into a bigger, sharper, all around better blade of wind. It wobbled and warped a little due to the pain the mage was in, but he managed to stay focused on the spell and give it the mana it needed to take shape. He was on his last legs of his mana reserves. If this didn't take out his opponent in a single blow, then he was going to lose like he did to El Tigre. And Ziann was not about to let that happen again. "Wind Make: Sword!" Lunging forwards, Ziann stabbed at the other man with all his might.

The man tried to punch the blade of wind with his fire-infused fist, only to find that the B-rank spell Ziann had conjured was too powerful compared to his Fist of Fiery Dooooooooom. His magic was pierced through, then his fist, then his arm all the way up to the elbow. With his arm effectively severed, but still attached limply and gushing blood, the man conceded quickly and nearly passed out. Medics rushed in to tend to the wound that was going to need a lot of cleaning up before the next round started...

Ziann had won, but he was too spent. He forfeited his next match by not showing up and just went home. He collapsed on his bed and slept for the next 13 hours straight. He had completed a busy day of training, and felt very pleased with his progress.
