Yet another day in which the Sinese found himself enlisted to help out with the theater's management-- I mean, reputation. The lead actor had found some comfort in reaching out to the young man whenever he needed some help, be it with an errand or with some tough work he couldn't complete by himself. This time, was no different. If last time was about serving as the bodyguard to a great and renowned actor, this time served something quite similar.

This would mark one of the first days in which the theater's popularity and reputation had grown far outside of Marigold City's reach; people all over the south hearing about it, and not just from there but apparently from the West as well. Even the secluded Myras City had proved to host some visitors and curious spectators wishing to see what the fuss was all about, and with that, the theater continued to grow. It appeared that Jan Ren wasn't going to delve in management and advertisement again anytime soon, and perhaps such was for the best. As one who had worked in the field for a while back in his home country, perhaps it was better than he tried his hand in some areas that he hadn't already completely mastered. As his personal advertisement campaign for the theater proved a roaring success when it ran, and while it would be nice to keep it up and running, it was unnecessary.

No, this time the job was quite similar to last time's tryout. With Geordo's performance in Marigold, an assailant had tried to take him out. In the Sinese' act of aggression agains the assailant, more of those had rumored to go around Marigold. Of course, nothing was set in stone, nobody had evidence to prove that. And that, was where Jan Ren comes in.

Gathering information from the citizens of Marigold really shouldn't have proved to be much of a problem, as his own reputation spoke for itself by this point. The young man had made his name known in the farmlands, in the theater and even in castle Syllas through several hardships and tasks, and between his campaigns and shenanigans in all of the above, the citizens had come to recognize his face somewhat as well, not just in virtue of such but also due to the symbol on his back. He was a man of reputation by now, that is.

However, it was also true that just asking around would most likely end up getting him in more trouble. In the first place, it wasn't set in stone that people had clear evidence, as just as stated earlier; it was all simple rumors by this point. Patrolling at night was also an option, and reaching out to the Rune Knights about the issue could also serve as some backup to fall unto. But until there wasn't any clear threat in sight, nobody could really move towards this goal. So, gathering solid information through asking around was futile. This meant, he had to look for himself to see if he could spot anything.

For this reason, the young man had called upon his gang once again. This bunch had been around since his days in Hargeon, having recruited these sixteen teenagers in a single day to Blue Pegasus and subsequently, to his personal ranks. His own mini-army of thugs, recruited to scout the streets of Marigold late at night. Naturally, as this job seemed quite heavy to complete, the Sinese had a long talk with his client about how dire the situation was, and how he needed more manpower. The pay would have to be raised, if just a bit, to compensate for these guys' mobility.

With the terms now sealed and written properly, Jan Ren could assign his little squad with proper guarding posts. Set in pairs of two and wandering around Marigold, the Sinese had a total of eight squads to gather information from. With that, they all set out. One to the farmlands, several around the streets and the theaters. He'd decided to employ one of those to an unorthodox spot for the off-chance that the assailants were actually citizens of Marigold hiding somewhere, or that they plain had their personal spot to regroup at where nobody could see.

As for Jan Ren himself, he had decided to stay on-guard atop the theater roof and look out to see any suspicious movement during the night and during the day. Sitting idly was definitely not atop his priorities, and with little rations it was natural that the young man would get cranky. But such was the job, and if he was to properly get to it, then so be it. He'd stay watching for a week at most, gathering information from his squads in shifts as they covered several areas in the city. His plan of attack was, of course, that if these guys had planned to do something to the theater, they had to go through him first off.

In a way, it worked. Two and then three days went by (somehow the Sinese surviving through the boredom without going insane) and no bad news came up from his men. He'd decided to wrap the job up for his squadron of thugs, sending them back home and requesting the client to send them their personal pay, to which he complied naturally. Relieved that there was no immediate threat to his precious building. However, for the chance that these men knew of the guarding plan... Jan Ren had decided to take his time in watching still.

You can never know.

Come the fourth day, then the fifth. His exhaustion has started turning quite apparent on his face if not on his mood. Though the client had wished for him to stop by this point, he had allowed the Sinese to continue with her personal charade, believing in the young man's judgment. Truth is, if the client had even made a remote comment about it all being fine, the young man would have long-since threw the job away, received his pay and went on his way. But reality wasn't going to let this happen, right? He had to stay quiet, seeing it in his interest to allow the Blue Pegasus mage to keep watch.

And so, he did. Continually sitting atop the rooftop of the theater day and night, even setting the spot as his new residence for the next following days, very very regrettably. He hated being there. At night he would battle mosquitos, and at daytime he would receive half-baked goods from the theater staff who happened to pass by and appreciate his hard work. With barely any time to train himself, having to stay focused for long periods of time, Jan Ren allowed his magic to go rusty in a way, as much as not using a single spell in several days could take its toll on a wizard. He would suffer the heat during daytime, with no means of cooling himself off properly besides hiding in his tent which, with no wind present, only made things worse.

In short, it was terrible. And the worst part is... It didn't even pay off in the end. A week went by in this terrible manner, until the client had finally decided that it was enough. He had personally came to the rooftop and thanked Jan Ren for his hard work, allowing the Sinese finally, to get down and indulge in proper rest.

Rumors are by the end of the day, just rumors. There is no way to determine whether they are right or wrong, truth or blasphemy. Such was demonstrated heavily in this case, as the grudge the Sinese bore towards the theater's lead actor went rather deep. It was of course in Jan Ren's choice to take to the rooftop as the centerpiece of watching for safety, however it was at the client's request that such a mission befell on him in the first place. He could refuse, of course, but he accepted anyway and had to take responsibility. For that reason, he hadn't spoke a word about his misfortune to the man directly.

Not to say he wasn't displeased. Not quite malnurished but certainly hungry and annoyed in lack of proper sleep, the Sinese wished this kind of fate upon no one, and in a way found himself jealous of his self-proclaimed subordinates for having the leeway to leave with such pay early. He was receiving the same treatment, of course, but fact is he stayed there for far longer than he should have.

Just to close the story properly, Jan Ren eventually made his way to the Rune Knights stationed in Marigold City. Naturally after a good night's sleep and great food to greet him back into freedom, that is. He'd informed them of the potential danger in the end, and requested that they explicitly do not reach out to him should anything happen, having to explain about his troubles guarding and formulate a strong alibi for himself (with the help of the leading actor), lest he turned into the prime suspicion regarding this case. All that was left is to accept his pay from this client and have a solid talk with him about exhaustion fees...

Yeesh. Talk about a waste of time.
