Venus had come to realised how long she had stayed in Magnolia; longer than her original intentions. It wasn’t as though she was so eager to travel to other places, but there were still other towns left for her to explore – not to mention – she still needed to visit her lover soon. Despite how busy she was, Venus found herself often wondering about where he was and what he might be doing. It had been a while since she’d last seen him, after all. Though there wasn’t much for her to do in Magnolia other than accompany Raquel with her daily adventures.

More often than not, the Siren found herself signing up for quests to fill the time she has in her hands to keep herself occupied at all times. Boredom was never in her dictionary. The quest that she had picked up the other day was just like every other requests; baiting out criminals or creatures, dealing with them and saving the citizens. Despite how boring requests may be, they immensely help her kill time faster than any of her other activities though she wondered how long she would last doing these mundane quests before she gets sick of them.

”These quests will be the death of me.”

The woman muttered under her breath, making sure she wasn’t heard by people around her. It wasn’t necessarily the sort of thing you would expect to hear from a mage, would it? – not that she cared about what the public thought of her. Though she hasn’t known who the client was or the explicit details of the mission, it seemed that the job was put on board by a woman from the way it as written. One could say it was also a talent of hers, to notice the details about people, even the very minor ones.

Usually, Venus would be asked to meet her clients at their house, but this time, it was different. Instead, she was asked to meet hers by the East Forest which made her wonder about the kind of request she would be asked to do. The streets of Magnolia were always busy and crowded as ever, and not once had seen ever seen the town empty – not even in the coldest of winter or the hottest of summer. Though Venus had never been a fan of big crowds, it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing to see such a lively town, in fact, she enjoyed the ambience of the bustling city and the exciting nightlife the people brought to the town.

Several minutes of sauntering the streets through the swirls and eddies of people finally led her to the destination where her client awaited by the edge of the forest as she paced back and forth very anxiously. As her footsteps drew closer, she could see the stranger woman spin around in her feet into her direction, her eyes lighting up in hope the second she saw the redhead approaching her.

”Finally, you’re here!” the woman exclaimed, scuttling towards Venus with such excitement that almost surprised her: she certainly wasn’t expecting her to be so amicable and endearing despite her extremely elegant features. ”I’ve heard a lot about you from my husband, Venus. I’m Isabella, I’ve been waiting for you for a while now. I was so nervous I got here early.” She bit her lip and twiddled with her thumb almost like a child before she began her explanation about how Luca decided to go camping with his best friend for his upcoming birthday but apparently, there has been sightings of boars within the vicinity.

According to Isabella’s belief, Luca went into the forest on purpose with the aim to defeat the boar and show off his abilities to his friend despite his impotence of using magical feats. From here, Venus would come in rescue once again to clear out the camping area for the safety of the children.

It wasn’t difficult to notice that Isabella was extremely anxious, from how she was pacing back and forth before Venus arrived and now, she was blabbering so fast the Siren could barely keep up with her words. At the very least, she understood the gist of the situation and heaved out a sigh of exhaustion. That’s why I hate children, she thought to herself, clearly frustrated at how annoying kids were. From her experience of handling him before, the boy undoubtedly had a very inquisitive nature and also had a desire to show off his magical capabilities to everyone around him (despite not having any). But then, it was also the fault of his parents for spoiling him and making him believe he did have the ability when he actually didn’t.

The woman merely shook her head. ”Okay, I get it.”

Short and precise, the deed was done without any need to share any other words and Venus went off into the forest to find whatever boar was said to be there. Thankfully, it was still bright in the afternoon, so it wasn’t that difficult to navigate through the forest since she could basically see where she was heading without getting lost. If it were to be the other way round, Venus possibly wouldn’t find herself out of the woods – let alone even searching for the children or the boar until the next day.

It also seemed that Isabella was very persistent on wanting to wait by the edge of the forest until she was completely certain that everything has been handled perfectly and thus, she’d let her. Before she left, Venus was given rough coordinates to the campsite so she quickly assumed that the boar would likely be around the vicinity once it received a scent of humans and she figured she’d set up a trap to lure the boar into a bait and vanquish him before it could do any harm to the children.

Venus was not one to leave her home without any of her equipment so it was certain that she was armed, ready to throw herself into combat whenever the situation called for it. Having such a massive bounty on her head, it was essential to be guarded and alert at all times – that is, if she didn’t wish to rot in jail. Wandering in the forest seemed like an eternity to her and being unaware of how much time had passed, it wasn’t long before she noticed that the sun had begun to set down the horizon. Only then it dawned upon her that she’d been in the woods for several hours already. With how long she was taking, it was no doubt that Isabella was growing worried by each passing minute and was most likely pacing back and forth outside of the woods waiting for their return.

Animals always had a keen sense of smell so she figured that she could lure the boar away from the campsite using a strong scent that would mask the whereabouts of Luca and his friend. Venus was neither a magician nor a botanist; she knew nothing about plants or how to conjure a bottle of attractant based on the greenery that surrounded her. To her, all of them looked the same.

So, the Siren came up with the best and the most efficient idea that she hoped would work on the boar: using an animal as bait. In a massive woodland like this, it wasn’t difficult to find small rabbits or even deer wandering, so when she caught one she would reward them with a quick, painless death for proving its usefulness to her and hid amongst the gorse of bushes and leaves while she waited for the beast to show up.

Her hand lingered close to the hilt of her sword, cautious as her eyes darted around the vicinity searching for any signs of visible approach from the boar or perhaps even loud thumps on the ground. Several minutes passed, each separated by an eternity and with each moment, Venus began to wonder if her plan had failed and if Luca and his friend were in danger. Technically, it wouldn’t be her fault if something were to happen to the child, although she did take on the responsibility of this duty and most important of all, it could risk losing her pay if she were to fail the request. Failure was not a word in her dictionary and she couldn’t afford to not succeed even a simple assignment as this. So, she waited with her patience almost on the verge of turning to anger, but alas, it was worth the long wait.

The boar was rather vigilant as it trudged slowly towards the corpse of a deer (she figured that a deer would attract the boar stronger than a measly rabbit). It sniffed at the body and Venus had to admit that the creature was intelligent while she watched him observe his food. The animal hesitated before retreating away a few steps as though the food wasn’t his preference. Naturally, she wouldn’t allow to happen and out came the redhead shoving herself through the branches and leaves with her sword drawn onto her side to slay the boar before she loses him again.

The beast was large, much larger than her in fact, and if it were to fall on top of her body, she would mostly likely be crushed to death underneath its weight. Albeit, having a massive frame always had its disadvantage at speed, which happened to be her forte. The swordswoman slashed her blade across the bear with every lunge she took and within a few minutes she had taken care of the beast. For safety measures, Venus searched around the nearby vicinity for any potential threads and once confirmed, she’d return to Isabella to collect her reward.
