The sun rose on another day and as per usual Ren was awake early. It was a rather mild Winter's day, the sun was beaming in the sky as the ground below began to awaken to it's warmth. The sky was a clear blue with a few patches of clouds. The weather had been holding up lately so he was hoping that there wouldn't be any rain. Not that he'd mind too much if there was, it would only mean the young knight would have to clean himself up properly once he returned to the Rune Knight Barracks in Orchidia.

Ren was out for a stroll early today as he wanted to do a few requests later on. There was nothing stopping him from taking an evening walk however as he gazed at the river with his pale blue eyes he knew that doing so wouldn't help him too much. Taking in a deep breath he took in the natural smells of the river and nearby forest. Ever since coming to Fiore Ren had become somewhat homesick. He knew this himself right away, so to remedy the situation he enjoyed taking nice long walks in any rustic parts of an area. Luckily for him Orchidia had a gorgeous vegetative scenery where he could clam himself. Ren wondered if there would be anyone else out on a walk as he began to fiddle with the Rune Knight pendant around his neck.

The day was warmer in comparison to the day Kerii had to spend in the woods. Had she known it would be like this, she would have rather done Guildmaster Shahrbaraz's challenge this day rather than the other. Speaking of which, she really had to get going to the Sieghart Mountains for the next part of it. She had some time to spare though. It's not like she was in any rush to go mountain climbing just for fun. The guild was unfortunately on a "no magic and items" rule for the time being, which made it too risky to take requests, especially the more difficult ones. So, Kerii would just have to make use of her time in other ways.

The elf ultimately decided on going to the river. She always enjoyed being out in nature, and on a day like today, it was best to enjoy while it lasted. She would start by walking towards the river. Upon arrival though, she saw another person there. An odd sense of déjà vu washed over Kerii, and then it occurred to her that a similar situation happened about two years ago. She was going to the river for the same purpose, and found yet another person out for a stroll. Only this time, the man had long navy hair with two-toned eyes, a scar over the lighter one. The elf would nonchalantly stroll over towards him. "You know, I always seem to run into others here, in the middle of winter, no less." Had it been any other season, Kerii would hardly give passerby another thought, but like many northern towns, Orchidia was known for having bitter cold winters. Not many decided to take walks just for fun, but there they were.

Ren almost didn't notice Kerii approach. He was almost totally lost in his own space just daydreaming about nothing. The young Rune Knight only noticed the elf because the sun shone in her direction, emphasizing her appearance. Ren was rather taken aback by seeing someone else taking a stroll by the river. He would have presumed that he would have been the only one around but here was a beautiful woman doing the same thing. The woman seemed rather friendly too, beginning a conversation as Ren drew closer. Funnily enough the woman had the same mindset as Ren, thinking it was rather odd to meet another person on a walk by the river in Winter.

"Oh? I have to admit that sounds rather odd, since like you said it is Winter and rather early too." He said concurring on the second part of her sentence. Ren was not sure what to say next since he was not expecting to meet anyone out on his stroll. Although since he was more relaxed about being in nature he didn't mind too much. "What brings you out here so early? Something illegal maybe?" *He asked letting go of the relic around his neck. Kerii would see his Rune Knight symbol which would make sense considering his question. Admittedly Ren had not been a Knight long enough to know how to subtly bring something like that up so he just spat it out hoping it would work out.

The man agreed that it was odd finding another person walking by the river in Winter. Kerii had to admit, this man was rather curious. She saw lots of different people throughout her travels, but very few dressed so formally, and even fewer had heterochromia, though judging from the scar across one of his eyes, it appeared to be from an injury. There was a story behind it, no doubt, but it would be rather rude to inquire about it so soon. Despite the scar though, the dark haired man was still rather attractive.

He asked Kerii what brought her to the river, and then asked if it was something illegal. "What? No, I-" The elf was confused at first why he would ask such a question, but then when she saw the Rune Knight emblem on his necklace, she stopped mid-sentence. Kerii smiled and said, "Oh, you're a Rune Knight! I'm from Lamia Scale," she explained. "But, what brings someone from the Magic Council over to Orchidia?" As far as she knew, nothing bad was going on. Gods, she hoped nothing was wrong. That would be odd, considering none of the guild members heard anything about some sort of disturbance, aside from the usual requests. But she was getting ahead of herself. He was probably just sent here for something unrelated.

The woman seemed to be taken aback as Ren asked his question. It seemed suspicious although he took her words at face value. "It's alright I believe you." He said to easy her worry. As she said she was from Lamia scale Ren's interest was peaked. The woman obviously saw his Rune Knight pendant, speaking her mind as her eyes moved towards it. "Lamia Scale you say? Well then you probably were not doing anything illegal being from a light guild. Sorry to have assumed such." He said with a small bow. Ren was usual this formal so to him it didn't seem too weird but he couldn't say how the Elf would find it.

Now it seemed as though the Lamia Scale member wanted to know why he was there. "That information is classified until I am told otherwise." He said as if he had to practice it a few times. "But if you want to know why I'm here by the river I could tell you if you would like." He said as if it was something he practiced also. In truth Ren was told to bluntly stop any questions about the magic council directed at him then to switch things quickly by offering up another topic of conversation. Ren had to be told a lot of different topics to cover since he wasn't a great conversationalist, so as he asked his question he began to think of a few more topics to change to so the woman wouldn't ask about the magic council again.

The Rune Knight believed her when she said that she wasn't doing anything against the law, and apologized for assuming such, especially since she was part of a light guild. Honestly, Kerii thought he was joking when he asked that question. Well, after finding out he was a Rune Knight. Either he thought she was nervous about him questioning her actions, or he was indeed serious. Nonetheless, he bowed after his apology, as a sign of respect. It wasn't necessary, but she appreciated the formality. "You're fine," the elf said, reassuring him. "Besides, it's not like I have my tattoo on display. You couldn't have known." Her guild emblem was on her left shoulder. As it was winter, she had it covered up with her jacket. Had it been spring, summer, or early autumn, it would've been showing, and the Rune Knight's only excuse would've been a lack of attention.

When the Wood Elf asked why the man was in Orchidia to begin with, he replied saying that the information was classified, which made sense, considering he worked for the Magic Council. But, he would gladly tell her why he was at the river in particular if she so wished. "Go ahead," the mage said, crossing her arms. Assuming that this wasn't "classified information," that likely mean that he was off-duty. She wondered if he was there for similar reasons as the man she met before.

The elf quickly shrugged off his rude behavior and accept his apology as if it was nothing. Felling glad of the speedy reconciliation the conversation continued. She also mentioned that he shouldn't be too hard on himself as she didn't have her tattoo on show. "You're right, it's more your fault." He said nodding in agreement. Ren didn't quite understand that Kerii was only trying to make him fell better rather than trying to shift the blame to herself. Ren would then continue to talk without really waiting for a response.

So with Kerii's permission Ren would explain why he came to the River. "Well basically I came here on a nature walk of sorts. I really enjoy nature and I was feeling somewhat nervous about the classified information, so before I went and started it I thought I would calm myself by coming out here." He explained rather systematically. "You probably feel the same, being an elf and all." Ren then said. He had already noticed her pointed ears and her incredibly beautiful features indicating that she was an elf. "Unless I'm mistaken. In which case I am sorry." He said, although this time not bowing as he was fairly confident in his assumption.

Kerii raised an eyebrow when the Rune Knight concluded that it was her fault he had not realized she was a Lamia Scale mage. Judging from the tone of his voice, he didn't seem to be joking. She wasn't going to say anything, and she was glad she didn't want to, because the dark haired man immediately went on to explain that he came by the river to relax. Evidently, whatever he was sent to Orchidia for was stressing him out, so he wanted to calm down in nature. As Kerii was an elf, the man assumed that she felt the same way. Once again, he apologized if he was mistaken, but there was no need to. "No, you're right. You'd be surprised though. Not all elves give nature enough appreciation." She wished they did. Had it not been for nature, nobody would have anything they see before them, and yet people still tend to forget its importance. If not appreciating it for what it was, then people could at least recognize the serenity it brings. Speaking of which, the Rune Knight had mentioned that it was easing him of his nerves regarding his assignment, which actually made Kerii a little anxious as well. "If you're nervous about whatever you were assigned, should Lamia Scale be concerned with it too?" she asked, hoping it was nothing too serious.

Ren found it very shocking that not elves thought the same way about nature. Learning about them in books and from his family he was certain they were all mad for it. At least this elf loved nature so it's not as if the fact was totally wrong. "That is curious. I myself love nature so much because nearly wherever you go, nature can always remind you of home." He admitted to the Lamia Scale member. "That's the main reason as to why I enjoy nature so much. It makes me feel better when I'm homesick." He said wondering to himself why he was confiding in the elf. Perhaps it was because he was told to keep the topic of conversation away from the magic council? Ren found it funny that he himself didn't even know.

Still, it seemed that the Lamia scale member wasn't too easy to mislead and asked of his mission once more. Although he smirked as she asked it. It was very vague, so vague in fact that he could aswer it. "No, I see no reason for it to involve Lamia Scale or any other guild for that matter so there is no need to concern yourself." He replied rubbing his left eye. "Is there anything else you'd like to talk to me about?" He asked beginning to enjoy the conversation between the two.

The Rune Knight too, saw the beauty in nature; however, he seemed to take it to a more personal and sentimental level. It reminded him of home. And even him, a grown adult, tended to get homesick at times. Unfortunately, Kerii could not say the same. Though her mother and father were from two different beautiful elven towns, she was born and raised in Crocus. Much to her dislike, it was rather devoid of nature, especially in comparison to areas like Orchidia. In fact, not many populated places in Fiore could compare to the bounty of flora Orchidia possessed, so she had to wonder where the Rune Knight grew up. After he stated that he saw no reason for Lamia Scale to be involved with whatever mission the Magic Council sent him on, the dark-haired man asked Kerii if there was anything else she wanted to talk about. As the subject of his assignment clearly wasn't going anywhere, the elf decided that she might as well try to learn more about the person she was speaking to. Something about him intrigued her, and she wanted to see where this would go.

"Well, I think I'd like to know a little more about you... starting with your name, perhaps?" she asked, realizing that even after their dialogue, she still had no name to put to his face. Kerii hoped that didn't come across as strange, but the Rune Knight was the one who seemed to want to continue their conversation, after all. It would be odd if they did so not even knowing who each other were.

"Ren. And your name is?" He answered. "Sorry, I forgot my manners. Even as a Rune Knight I should have said so early. Sorry." He said again with another bow. "I suppose you'd want other information about me." He said thinking she might want to know a bit more. "I am from Joya, hence why I like nature. My mother is Fiorian which is partially why I came here." Ren remembered not to go into too much detail as to why he was here. Not just because of the Magic Council but also because of his Family. "Speaking of, were you born here?" Je asked with a curious expression. As he asked his he rubbed his paler eye. He would wonder if the blonde noticed his large scar and subsequently want to ask about it. He would not blame her if she did. It was a rather popular topic of conversation especially in the Rune Knight barracks . Ren tried to prepare an answer should she decide to ask. Although the Lamia scale member did seem very polite and mannerly. She didn't seem to pry too much or ask any questions about some topics that he brought up such as where he was from. This elf was very different.

Kerii felt relieved when the Rune Knight didn't seem to think her question was odd, and answered it with his name in addition to more information the elf didn't even ask for. Now, she knew him to be Ren. He asked what her name was, and she replied with, "Kerii," after which he apologized again for not introducing himself sooner. "Really, it's fine. You don't have to apologize so much," she said to try and reassure him once more. She knew that it was just likely due to how he was raised, but it still felt too formal for her.

Ren proceeded to ask Kerii if she wanted to know anything else. "Yeah, sure," she shrugged. He then went on to talk about how he wasn't born in Fiore, but Joya. His mom, however, was Fiorian, which prompted him to come to this country in the first place. He wanted to know the same for Kerii, where she was born. "Well I was born in Fiore, but not Orchidia. I'm actually from Crocus." It was quite strange for a Wood Elf to be from the capital, rather than a place such as Athalran, but her father worked in Crocus, so her family resided there. Moving on from origins though, she wanted to know a little more about Ren. "Being a Rune Knight, are you a mage as well?" she asked, knowing that she had run into some Rune Knights before on requests who didn't seem to possess any magic, but then met some others who were able to cast a variety of rather powerful spells.

"Kerii, a very nice name." He responded once she had said her name. Living with his sisters had taught the young knight to be polite regarding everything about a woman. Hence why he complimented her on everything thus far and why he apologised so frequently. Looking at the elf, Ren was reminded of some of his sisters, although in a different way than most woupd expect. Kerii seemed to pick up on these mannerisms quickly and told him he need not be so formal. "Sorry, but I don't think I can do that  It's how I was raised and told to act by my family, so unless they tell me otherwise." This statement, unlike most of the others he spoke did not sound rehearsed at all. It seemed like for one of the few times in the conversation Ren was genuinely speaking his own mind.

The Lamia Scale Mage then went on to listen to The Rune Knight about where he was from and then she told him the same. "Oh that's rare." Ren let slip. He decided not to apologise for it since she had asked him not to, but also because it could have been seen as a compliment. People did usually like to be thought of as special or rare.

Kerii then asked what if Ren was a mage, being in the Rune Knights she would presume that he was. "Correct, I use a basic Wind magic. And yourself?" He asked figuring he knew the answer already. Elves were known to only have a few set magics but prehaps Kerii was indeed unique and had a rare magic.

Ren complemented Kerii on her name, which made her smirk. "Thanks." Not because of the nice gesture, but more due to the sheer irony of it. At the moment, she and her father were not on good terms. He loathed the fact that she spent time with humans, and was furious when he found out that she started charading as "Kerii," rather than simply going by her elven name, Atani. She could already imagine the aloof look on his face if he heard anyone give even a slight complement to her trying to conform to more human ways, even if they did so unknowingly.

When Kerii tried to ease Ren's worries about apologizing, he replied in a rather surprisingly adamant way. In his mind, he couldn't be less formal, for that would go against the word of his family. Unless they explicitly told him to be more casual, he felt as if he had to continue to demonstrate his dignified mannerisms. Kerii was about to impulsively spurt out a rather blunt reply, but she held her tongue. Her instinct was telling her to react, stating that he didn't have to follow whatever his family says word for word, but another part of her knew better. All she did was arch an eyebrow, simply showing that she didn't expect that sort of answer.

What Kerii wasn't too surprised about, however, was Ren stating that he utilized wind magic. He seemed to want to know the same for her. "A basic nature magic," she replied. Though it wasn't the full truth, it was close enough. As a little demonstration, the elf waved her hand a white lily began to sprout from the ground. "I'm not that good with it yet though," she confessed, a light sigh escaping the Lamia's mouth. "I can really only do a couple healing spells."

Kerii promptly thanked Ren for liking her name. Although he had never heard the name Kerii before he thought it was a nice name and rather easy to speak if it was from her native Elven tongue. Thankfully Kerii had no objections or qualms with his excessive apologizing, he simply raised an eyebrow. Ren figured that she didn't understand exactly why he did this and he understood that. Very few really grasped why, since they did not grow up in a similar environment. Ren was about to explain why he follows his family's will to the letter but stopped himself before he let anything slip. Perhaps he'd tell her another time if they met again and she asked.

As the conversation turned to magic Kerii explained that she used a basic nature magic. Although Ren couldn't quite tell she was not telling the whole truth, he could tell that as she spoke about it something was not quite as consistent as was with the rest of her speaking. She later explained that she could only do some healing spells at the moment and that she wasn't too good at her magic. The Rune Knight found this hard to believe since Elves were famous for the skills with magic, especially nature magic.

"Even using healing spells can be very helpful. Many mages the world over rely on those skills."

He said, an uncertain feeling gnawing at the back of his mind. This elf was very strange.

"I myself have not tried to truly train m magic yet so I don't know my limits."

Admitted the dark haired boy, not too sure himself why he did so.

"One day maybe the two of us could train our magic together? To try and get more out of it?"

He suggested, as if making an excuse for himself to go out and find the Elf again.

Kerii was rather disappointed that after all the training she had done, her magic was simply replaced with Ëala's own version of it. She practically had to start from scratch. Though she found herself being able to learn more advanced spells quicker than when she possessed Celestial Sky magic, she was still comparatively weak to her peers. Despite that though, Ren said that her healing skills could be very helpful, and that healers are relied upon by people all over. "Yeah I know. I just wish I could be better at it." Come to think of it, Kerii couldn't think of anyone else in the guild off the top of her head who had healing magic. Even though it was crucial to have a good healing mage, Kerii couldn't think of anyone she met other than herself who could cast such spells, which only meant that she had better get stronger, and fast.

Not only was the elf currently weaker in the field of magic, but so was Ren. Actually, he had yet to really train with it, so he didn't even know how powerful he was. He then asked Kerii if she was able to train with him, so they could both expand the limits of their magics. The blonde mage smiled. "Yeah, sure! That sounds great, though I'm going to be leaving Orchidia soon. I don't know exactly when I'll be back, but hopefully we'll run into each other then... which actually reminds me. I should get packing. Hope to see you later." The elf waved goodbye as she left the Rune Knight to go to her dorm. He was a strange fellow, but she liked him. Needless to say, she was looking forward to their potential training session.

The elf once again expressed her feelings of annoyance at herself by saying that she wished that she could be better with her magic. Ren decided not to prattle on about his opinions as it would not really get either of them farther in life. However, for a second Ren thought he saw a realization in Kerii's eyes. Perhaps his words did get through to her, or perhaps it was simply her eyes sparkling in the sunlight. Either way Ren found it a pretty sight.

Beaming at her acceptance to train, Kerii continued to explain that she would not be spending too much longer in Orchidia and was not sure when she was going back.

"That's fine. I'm not stationed here so I am sure we will meet travelling at some point." Ren said confidently. "Although that could mean we'd miss each other quite a bit. Well no matter, if we are destined to meet again it will be so." He said again with a nod. Kerii then excused herself saying that she had to be on her way. Ren waved back at her as she walked away. Ren turned on his heel and made his own way back into town. His nerves on the mission were all but gone, however he was beginning to feel them once more as he approached the church...
