Kamui
The misty air clung to the desolate landscape as Kamui, the wandering swordswoman, trudged through the eerie moors. The waning moon cast a ghostly glow over the uneven ground, creating elongated shadows that danced with each gust of wind. Kamui's katana, strapped to her back, glistened with a faint reflection of the spectral light.

Kamui had heard whispers in the nearby town of Baska—whispers of restless undead plaguing the outskirts. Tales of wandering corpses and ethereal moans had piqued her interest, drawing her toward the source of the ominous rumours. Unbeknownst to her, the townsfolk were huddled together, sharing stories of the haunted moors and the cursed skull said to be the source of the undead uprising. It didn't help that the town was inhabited by a necromancer, one who lost an object he valued. He could only give a grin, not that the skull-headed man could make many other expressions, as he watched the swordswoman walk towards her destination.

As Kamui approached the moors, Mami, her cheagle companion, cowered behind a gnarled tree, its wide eyes wide with fear. Mami had heard the same rumours, and the mere thought of facing the undead sent shivers down its tiny, fur-covered spine. Kamui, however, remained unaware of Mami's trepidation, her focus locked on the promise of a good fight.

The fog thickened as Kamui ventured deeper into the moors, her senses sharp and attuned to any sign of movement. It wasn't long before the first zombies emerged from the mist, their decaying limbs dragging across the damp ground. Kamui's eyes narrowed with anticipation; the thrill of combat coursed through her veins.

The clash of steel against rotten flesh echoed through the desolate landscape as Kamui engaged the undead horde. Her katana danced with deadly precision, severing limbs and silencing unearthly moans. Despite the grim surroundings, Kamui found solace in the rhythmic dance of battle. She moved with purpose, each strike a testament to her prowess as a skilled warrior.

As Kamui carved a path through the undead, a peculiar sight caught her attention—a swirling vortex of dark energy pulsating above the moors. At its center hovered a skull, suspended in the ethereal maelstrom. Unfazed, Kamui pressed forward, the thrill of the fight drowning out the unnatural spectacle.

It wasn't long before the last zombie fell beneath Kamui's blade, the mist now tinged with the dissipating darkness. She wiped her blade clean and surveyed the aftermath of her handiwork. The moors, once shrouded in malevolence, now seemed to exhale a sigh of relief.

Amidst the silence that followed, a raspy voice resonated from the cursed skull. "Brave warrior, you have quelled the unrest. I am free."

Kamui, unaccustomed to talking skulls, arched an eyebrow but remained composed. The skull continued, revealing its tale of woe—an ancient curse that bound it to the moors, tormenting the spirits of the deceased and giving rise to the undead. Intrigued, Kamui listened as the skull implored her to take it to a sorcerer named Cain, who resided in the town of Baska.

Cain, a renowned mage with a penchant for dealing with the supernatural, was rumoured to hold the key to breaking the curse that bound the skull. The offer of payment for delivering the cursed artifact to Cain's abode only fueled Kamui's interest. Money was a welcome reward, and the prospect of facing challenges beyond the physical intrigued her.

With the skull tucked securely in her belongings, Kamui retraced her steps through the moors. Unbeknownst to her, Mami cautiously emerged from its hiding spot, peeking out from behind the gnarled tree. The sight of the defeated zombies and the mysterious skull left Mami in a state of awe and terror.

Kamui, unaware of Mami's internal struggle, made her way back to Baska. The town, now dimly lit by the glow of lanterns, greeted her with hushed whispers as she passed through the cobblestone streets. All Mami could do was cling to Kamui as she walked.

Kamui
On the edge of the town, Kamui located Cain's residence—an ancient-looking tower adorned with arcane symbols. The door creaked open, revealing a figure cloaked in shadows. Cain, a mage of considerable skill and height, peered at Kamui with knowing eyes.

"You bear the cursed skull," Cain intoned, his voice carrying the weight of ancient knowledge. "Place it on the pedestal, and we shall begin the ritual."

Kamui complied, setting the skull on a designated pedestal within the tower. As Cain initiated the ritual, the air crackled with magic, and the skull's malevolent energy intertwined with arcane forces. Kamui, ever stoic, observed the proceedings with a watchful eye.

The ritual concluded with a surge of mystical energy, and the cursed skull, now free from its malevolent influence, glowed with an otherworldly light. Cain nodded in satisfaction, acknowledging Kamui's unwitting role in the restoration of peace to the moors. But mostly he cared about getting the skull back.

As a token of gratitude, Cain presented Kamui with a pouch of jewels, the clinking sound echoing through the tower. Kamui, having completed the task nearly by accident, accepted the reward with a nod of appreciation. Mami, having cautiously followed Kamui to the tower, watched with wide eyes as the events unfolded.

With the cursed skull now liberated and the moors free from the grip of the undead, Kamui and Mami left Cain's tower. The moon hung low in the night sky, casting long shadows as they ventured back into the town.

"Master, can we not do jobs like that in the future? That was scary..." Mami whimpers as they make their way through town.

Kamui briefly glances down at the shivering creature in her arms then back again, her face blank. "I will leave you at the inn next time." Is all she says in a curt voice. And outside might think she was being unkind to the cheagle, but Mami, who knew this was just Kamui's way of showing she cared, simply relaxed in her arms. They then made their way to their next adventure.
