Ikazuchi
During the last month, Ikazuchi hadn’t had many requests come his way. It was slow and frustrating, with the only job he received being from Augustus. He enjoyed training and blacksmithing, but he was gradually feeling stifled as he spent more time at the guildhall. It was around that time that he recalled Kaen and the village. ‘It should be fine to check in on them now, right?’ He had left hurriedly in the past, so was curious how they were dealing with the various issues that would have followed his act of crushing the two villages.

It didn’t take much to convince himself after he realized that he could simply go check on his friend. It didn’t take much to convince his lazy mount either, so he was able to prepare with greater ease than usual. For the first time in a while, he was genuinely looking forward to something. His wyvern shared that sentiment as it didn’t spend much time with the children during their last visit. Although it would act reluctantly, the soft spot that it had for them was something that Ikazuchi was very aware of. The two took to the skies with Worth Woodsea as the destination while looking forward to surprising everyone in the village.

The trip to the east was peaceful for them, nothing willing to challenge the wyvern in the skies. Ikazuchi appreciated its dominance in the skies each time they flew unimpeded. The northern air was cooler as autumn arrived, and Ikazuchi experienced this to a greater extent while flying high in the air. The higher elevations of the nearby Marchen Mountain Range were constantly wreathed in snow, a visual display of the cold climate in the region. The chill naturally flowed downward, overlapping with their flight path.

‘I’m glad you’re warm…’ This was all Ikazuchi could think as he leaned slightly closer to his wyvern that had a distinct affinity for fire. Even in this climate, it provided a source of warmth for him that allowed him to travel comfortably even during this time of year. In fact, he had relied on his mount on multiple occasions during the harsh winters in the Worth Woodsea. He could only imagine how excited the children would be to play with his wyvern due to this fact. He could only smile and pat it lightly as he looked forward to their arrival even more.

Ikazuchi was pleasantly surprised by the sight he saw upon arriving at the village. The layout and infrastructure had clearly been improved during his time away. It was clear that the elves and their affinity for nature accelerated the various construction and projects, even blending the varying cultures together to create a unique environment. He was also thankful to see a proper defensive wall established around the village that could protect from both man and beast alike.

He had his wyvern circle above for a bit as he further examined the state of the village that seemed to be progressing towards the status of a city with each of his visits. He could see the activity of the area clearly from the sky, so he knew at a glance that the village had more than recovered. By this point, he had already been noticed and several people were gathering towards the village square. “Let’s go down and greet everyone.” With only those short words, his intelligent mount gently descended upon the square. Both Ikazuchi and the wyvern were looking forward to interacting with the people waiting to greet them below.

“It’s good to see you again!” This is what Ikazuchi heard from the side as his wyvern landed in the open space. Ikazuchi smiled and turned his attention to the side where he knew Kaen stood, waiting for him to dismount. “That’s what I should be saying. I’m glad things are going well here, Kaen!” Ikazuchi naturally stepped off of the saddle and landed a few feet from Kaen. There was a distinct dull sound of the heavy impact as Ikazuchi was equipped in heavy armor. The only reason why the sound of metal clanging didn’t sound was due to the quality of his armor, and his personal efforts to improve its basic structure.

The various children in the village were climbing onto the wyvern as soon as they could. Only the young elves that weren’t used to it were hesitant, but he knew they would warm up to it eventually due to the other children. He chuckled slightly as he moved to a different area with the various adults. “How have things been?” This was the important question that Ikazuchi asked after the group had dispersed leaving only him and Kaen. “Things have been going great for the village. We’ve all grown closer due to overcoming adversity together and we strengthened our defenses.”

Kaen’s attention had been on the area around them as he introduced various things, but he stopped at this point and met Ikazuchi’s gaze. “Thank you for everything, Ikazuchi. We’re all grateful for what you’ve done.” Ikazuchi smiled and simply accepted the thanks, already aware of how the village felt due to the warm welcome. His concerns as he departed last time had been proven wrong, so he was genuinely glad that he chose to visit today. He hadn’t particularly planned for it, but he was convinced to even stay in the village for a period of time so they could properly express their thanks to him.

Ikazuchi’s days in the village were peaceful as the first night was dedicated to a large celebration. Everyone partied as a bonfire blazed on that night, humans and elves mingling together as they relaxed for the first time this month. While it occurred due to Ikazuchi’s surprise visit, it also served to celebrate everything they had accomplished during this time. Ikazuchi naturally didn’t drink, but he enjoyed the atmosphere that was significantly different compared to when the two villages were first integrating. ‘It’s nice…’ This was what he genuinely thought as he went along with the whims of everyone as much as possible.

The adults respected his wishes and didn’t force him to drink, but they dragged him along to eat various dishes and forced him to dance with many women during that night. He wouldn’t normally participate in such festivities, but he welcomed it on this night. If there was one thing he didn’t expect, it was how aggressive the women could be as the single ladies around his age attempted to take him home.

It was naturally very burdensome for him and it only became more difficult to gently decline their advances as they became more direct. He was actually thankful for the fact that the innocent children became jealous and cut in giving him an excuse to escape. Unfortunately, the whims of the children were tiring in a different way. This continued deep into the night with Kaen simply watching the way the villagers and Ikazuchi interacted happily.

Ikazuchi’s habit of waking up early didn’t change, even when he didn’t sleep as much as normal. He was one of the first up after the long night, the first rays of sun were just visible on the horizon. Even if he were taking it easy in the village, Ikazuchi wouldn’t skip his training in the morning. The daily routine was deeply ingrained in his lifestyle, so he would even feel discomfort if he skipped a day. This training continued until the sun had properly risen and the adults were starting their day, only then did he stop and go to clean up.

The cool water was almost refreshing after all of that training, and this gave him the energy to properly make his way around the village to assist with anything he could. His strength and blacksmithing skills meant that he could help most people, so he was welcome basically everywhere he went. Kaen even felt the need to reprimand Ikazuchi and the villagers due to him doing what the man considered to be too much work. It was only due to Ikazuchi’s insistence that the man gave in and accepted the help, making sure to thank him for any help their village received.

“Kaen! Do you have a minute?” Ikazuchi had approached Kaen later in the day as he had an idea that he needed to discuss. “Of course, what is it?” Ikazuchi wasn’t surprised by the response, so he spoke freely without concern. “Would it be alright if I trained the guards?”

Kaen was surprised by Ikazuchi’s suggestion, but not opposed to it. Everyone in the village was aware of Ikazuchi’s strength, and they understood that his skills were as high as his strength. If the various guards received his advice, it was extremely likely that the defenses of the village would improve drastically. It would also allow the village to hunt the various creatures lurking in the Worth Woodsea with greater ease. “That won’t be too much of an inconvenience?” Ikazuchi smiled at that comment and responded almost immediately. “Of course not! I would be happy to teach them.” He didn’t mention the selfish motivations that he had due to spending so much time at the guild, training with others. He had come to enjoy training with others, and felt satisfaction seeing those that he trained improve.

During the following days, Ikazuchi focused on helping each guard find their own unique style of combat. Even for those who specialized in magic, he could guide them to a certain extent as he had plentiful experience. The techniques that arose due to this were extremely thorough and diverse, with certain principles even being recorded in books to serve as manuals for teaching others. Even some of the younger children received his guidance, and everyone became more skilled. The villagers had a certain amount of ability to survive in the Worth Woodsea, but the structure he provided gave them a stronger foundation for the future. The time spent training them was enough for him to be certain that an incident like before wouldn’t occur again in the future. Still, Ikazuchi went the extra mile and forged equipment for everyone while teaching everyone the techniques needed to maintain their equipment. This continued until a messenger appeared in the village one day, requesting that someone mediate between their tribe and another.

Ikazuchi listened to the request before discussing the details with Kaen. He had to ensure that there wouldn’t be any chance that the village would be in danger. Unlike what Ikazuchi expected, his friend welcomed it as the village was a nearby one that he hoped to connect with. It was at this point that Kaen revealed the intent to unite the nearby villages as a union that supported each other. It was an impressive goal, and one that he was happy to support with his efforts. After they came to an agreement, they discussed the finer details with the representative of the nearby tribe and the kind of help they needed.

The details of the deal they needed assistance with weren’t much different from those that Kaen previously struggled with. Hearing this, Ikazuchi saw an opportunity for the guards that he had been training and brought it up. “Kaen, is it alright if I lead a guard team to settle the issue?” This had surprised the man, but he quickly understood Ikazuchi’s intentions. If their village wanted to be the center of the union then it needed to have the ability and experience to resolve the issues of the villages that are associated with them. “Of course, I don’t have to worry if they’re with you.”

After that, Kaen discussed various conditions related to the assistance and eventually came to an agreement with the representative. They would establish their own agreement with the village requesting assistance while Ikazuchi would naturally receive his payment. This was written into a contract that would be delivered back to the village head that Ikazuchi was leading a team to assist. They group departed immediately after the negotiations were completed as the issue was urgent.

The trip to the village was smooth as the guard team followed Ikazuchi’s commands and dispatched any threats that approached. They displayed a level of skill that was shocking considering the short amount of training they had experienced. This highlighted the fact that quality training was far more valuable than quantity, and Ikazuchi’s meticulous training allowed them to progress rapidly. The representative was naturally shocked to see the team in action, and more surprised by the respect the men showed Ikazuchi. There had been a misunderstanding due to the fact that Ikazuchi looked young compared to the other men, but it wasn’t something anyone noticed. They simply escorted the man quickly back to the village.

Their arrival was welcomed by the village that was in poor condition, even compared to Kaen’s village before ikazuchi assisted them. This alone earned the sympathy of the guard team as they moved through the area while following the messenger. When the village leader heard the various details about the agreement and read over the contract, he could only helplessly accept. It wasn’t something that would harm them, even if he may not have wanted to join a union in this manner. Little did he know, the man who ruined the village they had previously followed was standing only a few feet from him. Had he known that, he would have happily accepted the alliance.

As for the village’s issues, they proceeded calmly as the guard team stepped in and mediated. Ikazuchi intervened when the leader of the other village stepped up, crushing the man with ease. This allowed the son who didn’t agree with his father’s methods to step up and peacefully settle the issues. At the same time, any misunderstandings about Ikazuchi’s role were cleared up. He hadn’t needed assistance to begin with, he simply wished to support his friend and the village that they cared for. He didn’t forget to reveal his role in the recent chaos among the tribes, ensuring that no one would target Kaen’s village.

The guards who accompanied him treated him with reverence as they easily resolved issues that they had been struggling with not so long ago. While they may have felt fear towards Ikazuchi in the past, now they could truly say that they respected him. Their trip back to the village could only be smoother as they didn’t have someone to protect. Thanks to Ikazuchi, even the dangerous night in the Worth Woodsea didn’t hinder the group. His ability to see clearly, even at night, meant that they had nothing to fear. Truthfully, the group accelerated as Ikazuchi took an active role dealing with the threats.

The guards on duty welcomed them back before everyone separated to return to their homes leaving Ikazuchi to report to Kaen. As he would be departing early in the morning, he took the time to have a good conversation with his friend and confirmed that the deal had been completed without any issues. He was thankful for this, even forcing Ikazuchi to accept an additional reward for his efforts. The two went back and forth about this, but Kaen ultimately convinced him to add it to the reward he received from the other village. After that, Ikazuchi returned to his temporary abode and departed early in the morning for the guildhall as intended.
