The chilly breeze coming off the pier of Port Astera was mildly refreshing. It was a rare day that was warmer for the cold winter season. The sea salt smell was shocking to Amir. He had never seen the sea before. It was the only reason why he had bothered coming to the port. Amir thought it would be cool to see the sea vessels that came and went. Seafaring was important in some spots of the world. Desierto was not one of the places, which is why it interested him more, an entire plane of undrinkable water, the thought was just crazy.

As Amir sat on a bench he listened to the people speaking around him. A habit to be aware of his surroundings. Some fishermen were complaining about a sea monster that was wreaking havoc and causing the loss of fish. The spouses kept claiming their words were utter nonsense. It was intriguing to hear. Was there a mana beast out in the sea?

Amir wanted to check it out. It would count as his first adventure out in the sea. The only thing he considered to do first was to collect more information. His lack of knowledge about the port and the creature in question would only serve to disadvantage him. Amir was the type to believe in knowledge being power so he would always pay attention to any detail he could get a hold of.

“Excuse me. Is there such a large creature disturbing the peace?” Amir sounded worried. The main reason behind the concern was so the fisher people would lower their guards. “I am a member of the Magic Guild Infinity Wolves. If there is a creature disturbing all of you I can perhaps be of assistance.”

The people around him took note of the guild marking on his neck. An advantage of being in a legal guild was having an easier time gaining the trust of the people. The only reason he bothered doing it this time was because he was still in Infinity Wolves Territory. As long as the people had a slight sense to trust his guild. They would have no qualms about speaking to him.

The people looked him over before giving a nod. People loved to gossip anyway so they had no problem turning to whisper towards Amir. “The amount of fish we have been earning is decreasing over time. A lot of us did not think too much about it. We just chalked it up to the tide turning. It was only recently that we heard the tail of a mysterious creature. A creature with a long neck that nests in the cove. Eating tons of fish and scaring the rest away from the shore. Only one person has seen it before. No one has gone to investigate. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could take care of it.” It was an old lady that was telling the tale. The rest of the people enraptured as if it was the first time they had ever heard of it. The glances that they gave Amir did not escape his notice. He clearly believed they wanted him to check it out as well.

The talk had peaked Amir. Any monster disturbing the people was enough to become a subjugation target. “That sounds scary. As a member of the local guild I will at least investigate it.” In the end he agreed. The location that they gave was not too far. One of the old men even volunteered to let Amir ride on his boat. It would save him plenty of time and lower his risk of drowning.

The sea salted air beat the crap out of his face as the boat raced on. It was a pain that he had never experienced before. Amir could only hope they would reach their destination soon. If he had to put up with the pain for too long. Amir could not guarantee he would try blowing the boat up in some way. His emotions were starting to get darker and darker as his anger bubbled. He loved water but the air was hurting. Amir made a mental note to work on an air shield in the future.

“Der she is!” The boat slowed as they came to a grove. Amir did not need the fishermen to point the thing out. All Amir could see was an elongated thinly stretched neck attached to a bulbous body. The head was moving underwater. Amir could only hazard a guess that the creature was busy eating.

“Stop the boat. See if you can get us closer without alerting it. On my signal, start the boat up and prepare to get us out of here.” Amir gave the order because he wanted a back up plan. If they could get closer without alerting it. The next phase of his plan would work out. “Shahryār” Amir uttered his spell. The mana started congealing in his hand, as the magic circle appeared. Like an executioner he brought his hand up, then swung it down. The magic fired off in the crescent form as it traveled towards the exposed neck of the monster.

The magic did not have to travel far as they got close enough. It cut into the beast and made a clean pass. The scent of blood filling the air as it bled out into the lagoon. The body fell into the shallow water sending waves all around the place. Amir managed to avoid the blood water but some of it fell onto the ship. He did not bother to check it out but already had the beast killed.

“Okay we can get out of here. If any of you want a part of the beast you can have it.” Amir had no interest in something so weak. If he could one shot it he had no use for such a creature. It would only serve to get in his way.

As the creature continued to die the fish started swimming out of the cove. It was like a herd of cows that got out of a pasture. Amir would later reach land and hear about how the fish had returned. The market situation and the situation of the people improved dramatically.
