Rumors of a strange creature drifted through the streets of the city. It was something the wind mage was usually unbothered by, but something stood out to him about the events.

"It's strange Master Seiryu. The fog has grown heavy in the forest. People are getting lost out there," a man from the town spoke to the fairy tail guildmaster.

"Alright then. I'll go have a look," Kaz accepted the task without compensation. He threw on his backpack and marched into the wilds. He once again could feel the thrill of the wind on his face. The rush of blood pumped through his veins and connected him with the raw nature around him.

The forest was shrouded in a thick fog. A little drizzle of rain clung to the ground from the morning droplets. The wind mage squinted his eyes. A skitter of feet danced across the leaves. Something small darted from one side of the trees to the next.

He eased closer and leaned forward. His face dipped into the fog. He could almost feel it clinging to his newly returned lungs. He conjured a small wind to waft through the area. The fog scattered but returned almost immediately. In the faintest of moments, Kaz could make out the small large-headed creature dash behind a tree.

"That's it," Kaz stated, thinking about the fear the villagers had about it. Something so small could surely not be that harmless. The wind mage stepped closer into the fog and his nostrils flared. He smelled the tiny creature but there was something else. A haggard stench wrapped around the trees, strangling the life from them.

"Duck," A deep voice whispered, in a hurried tone. Kaz whipped his head back as a spike of water stabbed by his face. The tiny creature jumped out from behind a tree. Sweat dripped down the side of its face. It tumbled toward the wind mage.

"What the" Kaz grumbled, a little fear of the unknown. But his fear was laced with a pleasant thump of his heart. It was nice to feel emotions so vibrantly again. 'A water mage' he thought to himself.

"We're in danger Sir Kazimir," the exceed spoke. Kaz looked down unshocked by the speaking creature. Far stranger things had happened before. The wind mage knelt down, as the water around them began to lift from the grass and pedals. A blue magic circle flared to life in the dense fog.

"I got you," Kaz said and looped his arm around the exceed. The tiny creature crawled up Kaz's arm and jumped onto the mage's shoulder, not wanting to be cuddled like a wounded animal. "Ready," Mist said. Kaz dashed into the air, as all the tiny drops of water turned to spikes and stabbed where they once were. They morphed together to form a giant blade that geysered into the sky after them.

Mist tensed his mouth at the speed of their acceleration. Kaz kicked off the air and sent them hurling in another direction as the water blade pierced into the sky. The mage flipped and landed on a tree branch. "What the hell's happening."

"I was sent out in the world by Klaus and heard of you. I traveled through your homeland and met the clans on my way here. But you have to stay alive first. Others have come to kill you because of it."

"Kill me," Kaz replied and leaped off the tree as another blade of water tore through the branches. he could see the blue magic circle in the distance and smell the intruder. "There," Kaz said and darted through the trees, dodging the blades of rain.

"They were leaving the village when I left and plotting against you. I'm new to the world but wanted to warn you," Mist said and his words struck the werewolf through his heart with pain. His past had returned once more. "They are zealots with ideological blindness."

Kaz dodged another blast of water and landed in front of a man in blue robes.

The man staggered back. A frown pressed down the corners of his lips. He wore the robes of the water clan, dirtied by time and travel. "So you came for me. I didn't expect it to be the water clan too."

"You caused all our strife. And now we're gonna kill that exceed too," the man swirled his arms and water appeared in front of him forming a whirlpool. Kaz slid his feet apart, bracing himself to react. He peaked at the exceed on his shoulder, waiting for an answer.

"My name is Mist. I spent my years avoiding people like this. Now I want to do something about them," Mist glared at the water mage, with pointed words, spoken more like facts than out of any anger.

"We'll have more time to talk later. For now,"

"Let's take this guy down," Mist jumped of Kaz's shoulder and darted to the left. The water mage turned his attention toward the Exceed. Kaz reached out his hand to stop the tiny creature but he was already running off, into danger. The water mage rose his hand and the whirlpool turned to face the exceed, and formed a next of water.

Kazimir smiled at the reckless and brave actions of the small one. "Mist huh," he repeated. The elemental mage pressed his heels into the ground and then stomped with his back foot. The net of water burst forth and loomed over the tiny exceed. Mist rose his arms to block the damage that was coming in at him.

Wind swept through the trees. In an instant, Kaz was next to the water mage. The man looked over his shoulder and began to swing his arms around. Kaz swiped his hands upward. Two blades of wind crashed into the man's body and sent him skyward. The water mage soared over the trees. Kaz rose his hand and a tornado appeared in the sky above the man. He slammed his hand downward, against the ground. The tornado rammed into the man and sent him crashing back to the earth and out cold.

"Alright then. Look like that's taken care of. So tell me more about who you are."

"Like I said. I'm Mist. I'd like to aid your journey if you continue to take down people like this Sir Kazimir."

Kaz placed a hand on the back of his head, "I see. I welcome the company. It seems we have a lot of work to do. You can just call me Kaz."

"We should begin learning and training soon. You need to hone your water skills. No time for idleness" Mist didn't waste any time in telling Kazimir all the techniques he had heard in stories about water mages and the ice mages in the north. The rune knights showed up to eventually take the water mage into custody so they could interrogate him later. Mist proved to be a pragmatic exceed, well-spoken and reckless. He didn't harbor much anger about situations, more interested in outcomes than emotions.
