Atani

There was a strange movement coming from the bag Atani held in her hands. Brow raised, she peered closely at it. From inside, she could hear small chirping noises, but not the kind that belonged to a bird. There must have been some other sort of creature inside.

"Oh, hello there," Atani smiled at the creature as it poked its head out of the sack of bounty she had retrieved from the boat. It appeared to be some sort of lemur with adorably oversized ears. "I didn't know I had a stowaway here."

The lemur began to crawl out of the sack onto the elf's arm. She giggled as its little feet tickled her bare skin. It must have fallen asleep in the sack which was why she didn't notice it wriggling around before.

"Come on, you've gotta go back to your owner." She shrugged her shoulder to try and let the lemur know it had to leave. It leapt from her shoulder, but much to her surprise, it spread its arms to reveal that it could glide like a flying squirrel. It circled back around and perched on her shoulder. "Whoa, I didn't know you could fly!"

Perhaps the right term was glide, but that didn't matter. The lemur just looked at her clueless with its wide green eyes. "Right, you probably can't understand a word I'm saying." But that was fine. One way or another, she would return the flying lemur to its original owner. Upon taking a better look at the lemur, it seemed it was malnourished to a degree. Most likely, it didn't even belong to the pirates. Even the most nasty of scoundrels didn't usually let their pets starve like that. It was even a stereotype for them to keep some sort of monkey or bird aboard.

Atani

Instead, it was Atani's best bet that this lemur had knowingly been among the bounty when it was first captured from the sailor. Lucky for it, she was on her way to returning everything, including that lemur of theirs. In the meantime, she would enjoy what little time she had with the curious creature.

Despite being able to fly away at any time, it clung to her like a limb on a tree. It was restless however, and climbed all around her body. No matter how she moved, its nimble limbs were able to grasp onto her skin or clothes no problem. For a while, it became fascinated with the tips of her ears. It likely had never encountered an elf like her before and nuzzled against her ears. Its fur was short and far from soft. Come to think of it, when it came out of the sack, it appeared dirty. The poor thing probably needed a bath, but again, that would happen once it was reunited with its owner. Speaking of which, the elf was coming upon the captain's house-- the captain of the ship who the loot was stolen from, at least. There was a possibility that the lemur might not have been his, but if it belonged to one of the members of his crew, he could point her in the right direction or even take the lemur off her hands. If not, well, she didn't quite know what to do.

The likelihood of that seemed slim though. So, she would cross that bridge when she came to it-- if she even came to it that was, though the elf would find out her answer soon enough, for she was nearing the address of the home listed on the request. Soon, the captain would get all his things returned to him.

Atani

Upon reaching the captain's door, Atani slugged the loot down by her feet. It came as a relief to finally be free of that heavy burden. The metal clanking inside made it seem like there was more than just jewels as normal. Unfortunately, that translated to more weight she had to lug around, but it was not too bad. The long walk was the only thing that made it a pain.

The elf knocked on the door and waited for the captain to come and open it. Seeing the girl's guild tattoo on display and the sack of loot by her feet, he immediately knew why she was there. He thanked her for returning what was stolen, but strangely made no note of the lemur. Right before he was about to close the door, Atani brought it up.

"Excuse me, but does this flying lemur belong to anyone in your crew?"

The man looked confused. His answer was surprisingly no. If anyone had a pet, they did not bring them on board, and one had certainly never been aboard when they had gotten robbed from the pirates.

Well, so much for that. A brief walk around Hargeon told Atani that nobody was looking for this lemur either. There were no lost posters for anything besides a cat or two. Definitely nothing for lemurs. That would have stood out to the elf in a second. Yet, as exotic as this animal was, not a single sole nearby seemed to be looking for it. Atani let out a sigh.

"What am I supposed to do with you, huh?" The creature's jewel tone eyes looked at Atani, completely devoid of any understanding. It tilted its head to the side. "Well, you need food, that's for sure. But what do flying lemurs even eat?"

Atani

It was a species of animal she was unfamiliar with. Although it reminded her of a flying squirrel, she highly doubted it could live off of the nuts and insects they ingested. It likely needed a more robust diet to grow as large as it did. So maybe...

Suddenly, the lemur detached from Atani. "Huh?" Her gaze followed the animal. Her eyes widened as she saw it snatch a mango from a merchant's cart. "Hey, you can't just-- !"

Oh, what was the point. It couldn't understand her either way. Giving a tired sigh, Atani apologized to the fruit merchant and paid for the mango the lemur stole. Happily munching on the fruit it so wittingly stole, it flew back and perched on Atani's shoulder.

"If you want fruit, just let me pay for it, okay?" One mango wouldn't be enough to satiate the appetite of a starved flying lemur. She bought the creature a couple more and kept a watchful eye on it as she began to walk back to her home. As it left the pits behind, she repeatedly had to bend down to pick them up and throw them away in a garbage can. Upon disposing of the final one, there was some chatter over by an alley that made her ears perk up. Back pressed against the wall, she inched her way closer to make out the words spoken. It seemed her hearing did not betray her. She thought she had heard pirates talking about their next plunder, and she was correct.

The details they spoke of were sparse, but it was enough to confirm that they were up to no good. But she couldn't stop them right then and there. They had mentioned growing their wealth, implying they already had some stolen loot on board. If she didn't act soon however, that bounty would only grow.

Atani

"Come on, let's head back to the Flying Knave."

The name of the ship, Atani presumed. She retreated from the wall and dispersed herself among the crowd as the pirates came out of the alleyway. The elf kept a watchful eye on the duo, yet made sure to maintain a safe distance from them. They perhaps wouldn't take notice of her if she was just another citizen of Hargeon, but being as she was a Wood Elf and had a winged lemur perched on her shoulder, if she were to continue following them in plain sight, the fact that she was on their tail would become blatantly obvious.

Following them discretely became more of an issue as they drifted away from Hargeon's streets. Though luckily, it appeared to Atani that they were headed towards the cove, yet another spot where she knew pirate ships to dock from time to time. It was not a place where she had personally gone to stop pirates, but it was still a place she knew the route to. It was in shallow enough waters where she would be able to take on the pirates just fine. The only problem was the little mango-eating lemur that still clung to her shoulder.

"Look, you can't come. These pirates are dangerous." She tried to shake the lemur from her arm once more, but it refused to go. She didn't have any more fruit on her to bribe the creature with either. "If only you could understand me," she said with a sigh. Atani did not feel comfortable taking the lemur into battle with her, but what choice did she have? It wouldn't fly away, she didn't have any fruit to keep it occupied, and she couldn't keep it tethered to the beach with any sort of rope or magic.

Atani

"Just... stay close, alright? Don't fly too far."

If there was one thing the lemur understood, Atani hoped it would be that, though in reality, she knew that would not be the case. Still, it gave her some peace of mind to know that she had tried her best to convey that information to the lemur. Now, she just hoped its affection for her would remain true throughout the entirety of her invasion among the pirates. Unless things went south. Then, she hoped the lemur would have enough common sense to abandon her and get out of harm's way.

Before she rushed in, she needed to observe the ship. 'The Flying Knave' was not the name of a ship she recognized, so in all likelihood, they were not the most dangerous enemies she could have encountered by chance. That was good, both for her sake and her new ally's. From simple observation of the crew, her suspicions were confirmed. Their 'ship' wasn't even something she would call a ship. Boat was the far more appropriate term, which made sense as to why they were able to lay anchor so easily in a cove. Either they liked to keep their crew small, or they were just starting out. Either way, Atani didn't think that these people would be of any problem.

She drew the bow from her back and tested its string once more. It had not grown frail from her past battle at all. If anything, it felt slightly better on her fingers having worn the string a bit. From her position, she would have to still sneak closer to the ship before once again taking them on by surprise via running on water as she normally did. So, as quietly as she could, she slid down from her hidden location up high.

Atani

From what she could tell, the people aboard The Flying Knave did not see her descent to the cove. For now, she still had the element of surprise up her sleeve. Using the same spell she had done the time before, she dashed across the surface of the water. Her footsteps created quiet ripples in the water, quiet enough that the waves masked their sound just long enough for the few pirates aboard the boat to recognize her too late. They had little time to respond, not that they could do much anyway from a distance. It seemed the three people on board only wielded swords or daggers.

Drawing back her bow, Atani shot one with one of her stronger attacks. He collapsed to the ground, incapacitated. She unfortunately was not fast enough to shoot the others from her position, so the only thing she was able to do was jump aboard as well. Dodging the swing of one of the weapons, she was able to knock one of the swordsmen out with a blow to their head. Another, the lemur had flown off her shoulder and pulled at the man's ponytail. In the chaos, she hadn't even realized it had flown away. With the distraction provided, she was able to knock him out as well.

Atani knew they wouldn't be out long though, so she tied the three up while she could using some rope she found on the boat. The vessel appeared to be lacrima powered, which made sailing it that much easier. She directed the boat into harbor and contacted the law enforcement on land. She briefly went back aboard to grab the loot and asked who precisely it was stolen from. She was told who reported having been raided from The Flying Knave and went to return their possessions.
