Jolyne Atreides

It really did seem like a deal that was too good to be true as Barras was telling her. Jolyne Atreides had come to the merchant in response to a notice he had posted upon the quest board, and was now in the process of hearing about the details. It was most suspicious, she must agree, on not only the price but the place and time of the meeting. The Lich was glad that she had come out to help the man, instead of him venturing out on his own to potentially get mugged in some random back alleyway. Between the two of them and her new spell which was a bit easier than force feeding someone a bean to harm them, she was certain the duo could fend off some schemer's snare. Still the outskirts of the town was not a good environment for a meeting, furthermore dusk was not a well figured time either and both really stunk of bunkus. The woman scoffed and shook her head as they walked out towards the meeting place although she looked extremely out of place next to the shopkeeper and in the crowds of mundanely dressed humans. Although many turned their heads at the ornately garbed shambling skeleton, most assumed it was some form of takeover magic or another and quickly looked away as the Lich rarely had her fear affect activated. That seemed to be tied to her irritation and anger more than just neutrality which helped rather much with healing, and supporting other people. Though no doubt it would probably trigger later as Jolyne had little faith about this meeting going well in any regard. The nature Mage was rather eager to get this over with so the nice shopkeeper could learn to stop gambling on such obvious ruses. As such when they drew closer to the agreed upon destination, the woman steeled herself in preparation of a fight and began to take in her surroundings more seriously. This included keeping her senses more in tune so that she would know if there were going to be any hidden surprises before they occurred.

Jolyne Atreides

It was a caravan of two wagons each driven by one man and seemingly loaded with a heavy substance by the indications told by the slight bending of the wooden support structure of each vehicle and the exhaustion of the horses pulling them forward. This at least was a good sign that told the Lich that there was probably Ore inside, but that did not necessarily mean that it was not still some kind of set up. Figuring that part out would come later, once the two had finished the process of unbridling, and feeding their horses. "Watch the taller one" Jolyne whispered over to the merchant whom employed her, and in response he told her that the more weasel looking one was the one who had set up the deal. This new piece of information shifted Jolyne solidly into the sour idea as the man's face was almost drooling and had been eyeballing Barras' pockets since getting close enough to be able to. Truly it would appear as though a scuffle would occur in their future but it did little good to jump the gun and remain in the right in the eyes of the law. Suspicion alone was not enough justification would be the response to such a reaction even though had she still been in the Rune Knights the action would be completely acceptable. That sudden realization truly rubbed Jolyne Atreides in the wrong way, shouldn't the law keepers be held to a higher standard than a regular citizen? That was always how she had viewed it, and would be the more logical thing. With this and the news that those who were once criminals could pay penance by joining the organization it caused the Lich to wonder just how subjective the word 'good' had suddenly become in her long absence. Had it become so bad that the governing forces had become completely rotten beyond repair? Would helping the common man be enough under such a system?

Jolyne Atreides

Jolyne Atreides' disappointedly thought it probably could not be further solidifying her future plans within her mind and steeling herself for the upcoming fight the weasel was about to start. Sure enough shortly into it the Weasel began to demand the money be handed over before they could inspect his product which produced an audible sigh from the frustrated Lich. In response the other man with the weasel would begin to taunt them as being too scared and cagey before the weasel blew that route by pulling a knife. In response Jolyne activated a spell and two giant spores appeared above her head before she directed them at the two people she considered hostiles so that they would be damaged when the oversized spores replicated upon them instead of healing like it would to someone she considered a friend. Not one to be caught with idle feet she would rush down the more cocky person dropping as she got closer in a sweep that he dodged by jumping upward and delivering a line before her glowing purple spore hit him directly in the chest like she planned, the other one passing by the man she ignored who had run away instead of engaging with it by casting his own spell. This proved neither was a mage and hitting the first man squarely in the back with a kick as he fell back down she would then focus on the weasel man who had luckily not gone after the merchant and instead had cut off his movement options by hiding under a wagon. Easy prey to fall to her next target, and after calling out to the merchant she went to inspect the ore which seemed to be perfectly fine until Barras informed her it was all hot. A reasonable merchant like him could not sell a single part of the ore even if they paid these charlatans for their ill gotten gains, a pity and as such Jolyne received her reward and departed.
