Venus Rosé

When a morning came where she didn’t have to brush the tangles out of her long hair, she’d almost sincerely consider crying for the gratitude of whatever undid the curse, as she liked to call it. The young woman would get up from her bed, the evidence of a smile still lingering on her jaw as she approached the day with a palette full on satisfaction and the urge to bear a sense of responsibility for the requests that she signed herself for. Laziness was a possible term, although harsh. To put it realistically, it was an odd mix of hesitance and dread. They were the sort of feelings that reared their ugly heads when directed at the virtually unknown, and she’d often succumb to the doubt at the thoughts of her prior self with different aspirations.

Truly, in her brief time there, Venus would begin to appreciate the wizardry business for its second-hand benefits. For her, it was more than the recognition; now it was the jewels, the surge of excitement, the irrevocable sensation of adventure at an arm’s reach. So, when she’d taken the paper request off the board, she had expected something akin to slaying monsters or hunting down bandits like she used to do. But instead, it was something that could hardly be considered an adventure; to find the person who was spreading misinformation about someone else – she wanted an adventure, not some gossip story.

The woman sighed, folding the paper in its neat valleys before locating it inside her pocket. At least it was one that could be done very quickly and she could just use that to kill her time for the day. The redhead arrived at the theatre; one that she had been coming for her previous requests. Technically, the theatre could possibly be considered her second home, with how much time she spent here on her requests – the idols and performers just couldn’t get enough of her.

Upon meeting her client on her arrival, Venus was quickly filled in the details about how a person had been spreading rumours about the star idol, Alice Nightingale, who was also her previous client. It seemed that her protégé had caught on those rumours and she was very persistent on finding out the culprit. Honestly, anyone could have possibly taken this request aside from her. Perhaps call her confident or egotistic, but why would a person like her need to do something as trivial as this. Surely, there were more important matters than someone gossiping about a star idol. The woman sighed as she wondered if she actually had that much free time on her hands. But, she was getting paid for it, so what other choice did she have? The hunter was obedient to money, but never the people who hired her albeit, that also didn’t mean she was planning to go around betraying people left and right – that didn’t run in her blood.

When the early morning struck, she came to the theatre to eavesdrop on some of the employees and even performers, pretending that she was only there to help with some backstage problems. There was no one you could trust on this job, after all. Venus was a master thief – something she was proud off – so it was apparent that she was confident in her spying abilities, blending in with the rest of the people just to overhear what the people were talking about. Then, the time finally came; the time when she found the culprit: Jessica, a starting actress, who seemed to be holding a grudge towards the star idol.

After snooping around some more, Venus eventually came across her in a dressing room all by herself, which couldn’t be any more of a perfect time to do some confrontation. ”Jessica, is it?” She let herself inside the room without knocking, locking the door behind her. The action made the actress startle and from the look of her face, she almost seemed frightened of her. ”Be quiet.” Venus pushed her against the wall, retrieving a dagger that was strapped around her thigh and placed it against her neck. The poor girl whimpered and looked as if she was about to piss in her pants.

”I’m sure you know what this is about. Stop spreading rumours if you want to live.”

The girl nodded profusely, tears streaming down her face. Jeez, it wasn’t as though Venus was planning to kill her but that did the work. Once the deed was done, she let the girl go, pivoting on her heels and darting off to inform her client of the accomplished work.
