It'd been quite a while since Fia had properly geared up.

She and her lover Esperia had been taking things easy over the past few weeks, following the world-shattering events at the Crocus Gardens. But time had healed the wounds incurred there, and by now, the pair was feeling stronger than ever, ready to brave whatever challenge came their way. So when the opportunity came to take up a particularly important job for none other than Lady Merlin herself, the two just couldn't resist going into the fray to prove their strength and lend a hand to the advisor and sorceress.

"Alright, I'm ready to rock..." Fia uttered under her breath, tightening her gauntlet from within their inn room as she turned to her lover to see if she was prepared for their biggest mission in a while.

"Let's go show 'em what we got, Princess." The Barone girl stated firmly, looking ready as ever to get back into the thick of it. Even with the wounds they'd suffered, and the bleak future ahead of them, she and Esperia stood tall and ready as ever, and today's actions would be a testament to that.

With the dynamic duo geared up and ready to get to work, alongside a disgruntled Salem who wandered alongside the pair, not terribly happy that he'd been awoken to help them out, but diligent in his duties nonetheless.

"Aight... She said she'd be somewhere 'round here to give us the rundown..." Fia explained as they walked down the Crocus streets, keeping an eye out for Lady Merlin, who'd be there to contact them and give them more details on the task they'd be undertaking, and the challenges they might face.

A mixture of excitement and nervousness was one way to describe how the young Eisenberg felt right now. While they had taken several jobs in the past, it appeared this request was one of much greater impact than normally, in fact it was being requested by one of the most famous, if not most famous mages of fiore: Lady Merlin herself. Having woken up early to make her preparations for the grand quest Esperia had ensured she was both in high spirits and a good condition, and with Fia by her side she felt like she truly had nothing to fear. "Mhmm~ Let's surprise everyone by succeeding in this mission!"

Arriving at the castle Esperia had to admit it felt awkward to go there, especially after the events of the war, but then again a mission was a mission, and at least it seemed Lady Merlin didn't suffer the same consequences the king had. Of course, speaking of the mage, it was quite difficult not to notice or be impressed by the beautiful woman who awaited them, a brief glimpse at the two of them being all she needed to know the dynamic duo was the one she had been expecting.
"Fiammetta Barone of the Rune Knights, and Esperia Eisenberg from the Blue Pegasus, am I correct?" Giving her a brief nod Esperia politely replied. "Indeed Lady Merlin, it is a pleasure to be able to assist you in your work."

Merlin smiled briefly, shaking her head lightly as she continued. "There is no need to be so formal, but nonetheless I thank you for your assistance. I am currently awaiting a delivery of an important item, one that is meant to arrive by Caravan soon, but unfortunately, the crew isn't exactly known for their ability to deal with delicate items, so I would like for both of you to assist in the escort of the item. Do you have any questions?"

It put a hearty grin on Fia’s face, and a warmth in her chest seeing her lover so enthusiastic about their mission and surely inevitable success. Esperia has gone through a lot in the past weeks, but charged through it with bravery and perseverance, to the point where she could once again wear that chipper smile of hers. Fia was immensely proud of her for that.

In spite of their high spirits and proud attitudes, there was no stoppping the inevitable awkwardness the pair felt on approaching the castle. But the duo cast aside the memories of war and other political strife, focusing on their mission of locating their employer. It wasn’t terribly difficult, and once the beautiful black haired mace caught there gaze they quickly approached, Esperia and Merlin giving their greetings as Fia too nodded in acknowledgement. ”Yeah, that’s us. Happy to be workin’ for ya.” Fia uttered firmly to the dark haired magus.

Merlin dismissed their formalities, before getting into details of their mission. It didn’t sound too difficult or complicated, though circumstances meant they’d have to be very focused throughout this task. It wasn’t just a matter of getting the delicate cargo from Point A to Point B, but also a matter of making sure the caravan didn’t take any risky routes or get the item damaged.

The mage asked if they’d any questions, and Fia shook her head before turning to Esperia to see if her lover had any queries. Assuming there was nothing to be concerned about, Fiammetta would set offf with her fiancé toward the rendezvous point with the caravan, just outside the city.

With a light shake of her head Esperia made it clear she had no questions left to ask. In the end they knew what to expect: the transport of a delicate item, and much more wasn't needed to be said. Of course they would need to be careful to ensure the item would be delivered safely and considering this was Crocus they might also need to be careful about things like pickpockets. With their quest given Esperia quickly joined her lover toward the rendezvous point for the caravan, just on the outskirts of the city near one of the gates. "Now where is that caravan~" the girl mused softly as she looked around. Like usually things were quite busy at the gate they had been given as their rendezvous point. People were waiting to be led inside by the guards, some merchants had arrived to peddle their trade, and among them was a caravan where a bunch of men were seemingly in a frustrated mood.

"Hmm, considering this is the only caravan in sight, do you think they might be the people we been waiting on, Fia?" Turning toward the steamy lass she wondered what she might had thought about the situation. Perhaps she could let Fia handle the little greetings part with the caravan? Considering she was a Rune Knight her authority as one might had been a boon for the two girls.

With no questions asked by either of the girls, the pair had nothing stopping them from getting to work right away. They knew what had to be done, and had a fair idea of how to do it, now it was just a matter of execution and dealing with whatever obstacles ended up in their path.

Fia considered such obstacles as they approached the rendezvous point, and realised the knowledge she'd gained during her Rune Knight work would be invaluable for this task, especially if they wanted to avoid some of the more unsavory parts of town. But first things first, they needed to actually find the transport, which was situated somewhere near the outskirts of the city. Standing alongside Esperia, Fia's eyes scanned around for the escort, and after looking over the merchants and other folk waiting to be let into the city, came to the same conclusion Esperia voiced soon after.

"That'd be my guess... Worth askin' them, at least. Let's head over, sort this shit out." Fia responded to her lover, before stepping over to the caravan and the rough looking men that led it.

"Oi, you Merlin's transporters?" Fia called out loudly, earning a sideways glare from one of the workers.

"Yeah, what's it to you, lass?" One of them groaned.

"We're your damn escorts, is what it is to me." Fia responded with a frustrated tone, not particularly appreciating the attitude of the caravan workers.

"We need escorts for a job this simple?" Another asked in disbelief, clearly not fond of the doubting of their competency.

"Apparently so. If ya really want, I can get out my badge for ya if yer doubtin' me." Was all Fia groaned in return, making clear her position as a Rune Knight. The caravan all looked to each other, clearly coming to a conclusion of sorts that this was the real deal. Fia just groaned again, giving an aside to Esperia.

"Can already tell this is gonna be a 'fun' one..."

Esperia couldn't help but smile in amusement at the casual call her lover made toward the escort, yet to their displeasure, the duo quickly noticed the caravan was not exactly that interested in socializing, or politeness for that matter. "Mai~ Mai~ No need to feel offended good sirs, Lady Merlin merely wants to ensure her shipment reaches the castle without any complications."

As the caravan was seemingly starting to get ready for the transport into the city Esperia listened to Fia's annoyed reaction, making her slip just a bit closer to whisper softly. "Hang in there my dear~ Once this all is over we can make it 'fun' instead."

Humming softly as she watched the caravan finally reach the checkpoint, and after a short exchange with the stationed guards they were led inside the city. However, it seemed that at that time neither Esperia or Fia could have been aware of what sort of nightmare this task would become for them. The weather seemed nice, and aside from the grumpy caravan workers there had been little to warn them of all the troubles that awaited them. If only the two of them could have know what sort of headaches awaited them, then Esperia might had been a bit less optimistic about those shenanigans!

Fiammetta was still grumbling grumpily by the time the caravan actually got moving, clearly displeased with their rude attitudes. Fortunately, Esperia was there to keep her motivated using promises of some more fun kinds of physical labor later. Fia grinned, half slyly, half softly, at her lovers words, looking down to her eagerly. "Well, with a promise like that, guess I really oughta put my all into this job..." She uttered heartily, feeling a bit more confident in their task now, in spite of the caravan's attitude.

That same caravan was already on its route, making it through the city checkpoint and passing the stationed guards who let them into the city. No troubles there, it seemed. Fia and Esperia would walk alongside the caravan as it entered the town, now at a slower pace, where they'd hit their first snag. With the main streets right ahead, the caravan seemed to be going right for them, a bad idea to say the least!

"Oi, oi, the hell are ya doin'!? Ya can't go down main street, yer gonna get this shit damaged or robbed!" Fia called out to them, speaking from her own Rune Knight experience. Too often had she and her colleagues been called in by merchants who'd had their wares damaged or stolen thanks to their greediness in taking the quicker route.

"What? You saying we gotta take the long way? That'd just take more time!" One of the workers called out in desbelief, earning another groan from Fia.

"A bit of time is helluva lot better than gettin' it damaged, dumbass..." She growled, head in her hand as she suffered the first of many headaches to come...

A sheepish grin lingered on her lips, clearly pleased to hear her attempt to cheer up and motivate her lover had worked wonders. "Mhmm~" She hummed in approval, and after a moment the two of them found themselves walking along the caravan. However, it seemed there was no reason for celebration yet, because the first obstacle soon arrived in the form of one of the main streets of Crocus, a place often infamous for its pickpockets and accidents. Of course, it was the fastest route, but also a very risky one so it was understandable that Fia called out to them.

The caravan's complains quickly started to rise, clearly disagreeing with Fia's remark but fortunately the obsidian-haired trickster had an idea of her own. "Are you sure you wish to travel along this route? Considering how generous Lady Merlin is with her payment it would be quite unfortunate if the goods ends up being damaged or stolen, isn't that right?"

Greed, one of the most classic feelings associated to people like those from the caravan, the idea of risking a loss in their pay was clearly going to be enough to convince them to change course, and so she looked between them and Fia, waiting to see what route they would take instead.

As the caravan workers continued to complain and whine about not being able to take the fastest and most dangerous route they could to transport their target, Fia was slowly beginning to lose her patience with this lot, and was starting to consider hijacking the damn caravan and transporting their cargo herself! Fortunately, before things escalated quite that far, a certain black-haired trickster stepped in to use her silver tongue and some well-placed words to coax the caravan workers into following Fia's recommendation.

Using their greed against them, Esperia quickly had the caravan workers looking to each other in clear confusion as they became unsure how to proceed. Though they weren't keen on making this job take any longer than it needed to, and the lazy lot did want to deliver this item quickly... Esperia had raised a good point about their primary motivator, and when it came down to it, the caravan just wasn't willing to put their pay on the line.

"Alright, fine! We'll do it your way, take the long route boys! These lasses don't want us damaging the cargo or something..." One of them called out begrudgingly, earning a collection of reluctant groans from his coworkers while Fia breathed a heavy sigh of relief.

"See? That wasn't so freakin' hard, now was it?" She growled as she too continued following the caravan along its now redirected route, around the main streets they'd originally intended to go down. Of course, although it seemed like they had the caravan workers convinced for now, little did Fia know that many more headaches awaited her with this slothful and greedy lot of workers!
