To be perfectly honest, Atani hadn't been expecting to hear from Weirdlock Jones again, especially since all she did was help the man clean up his office. Perhaps it was because he thought she might have seen something in his notes? She didn't really pay much attention to what she was cleaning up for him if that was what he thought, but whatever the case, he informed her that there were some concerning developments in a case he had been working. Atani had been on her way to their meeting point... but that was when she stumbled across the crime scene.

It wasn't even in the Crimson Quarter. It was in Sakura Alley. It was usually such a peaceful place, but judging from the amount of yellow tape and the number of law enforcement personnel present, it was clear that something horrible had gone down in the otherwise beautiful park.

As Atani approached the crime scene, she was stopped by one of the guards. Unauthorized citizens were not allowed to go any further.

"I'm here with the detective-- Weirdlock Jones," she explained. She tilted her head to the side as she tried to see the detective from behind the guard. Sure enough, she was able to quickly spot the man-- with his striking blue kimono and massive pompadour, he was impossible to miss. She waved her hand in his direction, and he caught it out the corner of his eye. Turning around, he walked over to the guard Atani was stopped at.

"She's with me," he explained, and he lifted the yellow tape so Atani could duck under a bit easier. She thanked Weirdlock Jones for that and asked him what had happened. With a solemn look in his eyes, he sighed and placed his hands on his hips.

"It's easier if I show you."

Weirdlock Jones walked Atani over to where the dead body was. She grimaced as she saw the bloody scene. Despite not being a detective, even she could tell this was no normal murder. After putting on a pair of gloves Weirdlock Jones handed her, she bent down to examine the body.

"Cause of death seems likely to be from the stab wound in the back of the neck," Weirdlock Jones explained. He gently pulled back the hair of the victim so Atani could better see. She nodded her head, then shifted her gaze towards the slits carved into the victim, starting at the corners of their mouth and ending along their cheeks.

"And the slits?" she asked as she was handed a magnifying glass.

"It is unclear if those were inflicted beforehand, or if they were post mortem. The coroner's report will let us know more."

Either way, it was clear it was some sort of signature.

The one thing that confused Weirdlock Jones was that he believed there should be a second victim. Now that Atani knew what the one body looked like, she split up with the detective to search the rest of the area for another potential body. She had sincerely hoped there would only be one, but upon seeing a hand sticking out from behind a bush, any hope she might have had was crushed. The victim laid in a pool of blood stemming from their neck, and their face was bloodied from slash marks around the mouth.

"I found another!" she called to the detective and whoever else was working on the scene. Weirdlock Jones rushed over and examined the corpse with Atani. Together, they found the wounds were identical, and they each were covered in sets of fingerprints. Both victims also had the marks of the White Star gang. Evidently, the kill was characteristic of another gang by the name of the Black Dragons.

By the second victim's side was a crumpled note. After opening it and flattening it out, Atani was able to see the image of an Ouroboros drawn on it.

"Hey... Take a look at this." She handed the note to the detective who furrowed his brows in concern. He thanked Atani for her help, and went to talk with the local law enforcement. They were both paid for their work today, but this case was far from over.
