Nana

Nana opened her eyes and she realized she was back inside the save, near her last remaining target, Sozen. "I know you are still there, daemon girl. You may have erased your presence, but I know you are there. You had better just kill me." said Sozen, giving Nana the sense that she had only been gone for seconds. Her prey hadn't enough time to escape and was sill guarded in the darkness, expecting the biting cold pain of her daggers any second.

Nana cleared her head for the moment and focused on her current task. She had cornered these two men with the intention of obtaining as much information out of them as possible. She had learned that her father was still alive. That fact alone had given her plenty of reason to keep Sozen alive, if only long enough to torture him and break his mind until he spewed everything he knew.

Her daggers would bite Sozen then, more out of bitterness and entertainment instead of senseless violence. "You will tell me everything I wish to know, whether you agree for now or not." she would say in a cold and factual way. Despite his own convictions, Sozen was beginning to believe her words. Though he could not see her or detect her in the dark, he knew she was there as if her presence was a clud of darkness all around him. His life was in her hands and she would play with him gently before breaking him into pieces.

Words alone cannot describe the things she did to the large robust man named Sozen. She would slash and poke at him, removing minor body parts such as his fingers. She would extract bits of information from him and when he seemed ready to break, she would leave him be- alone without food or water in the darkness.. aside the corpse of his deceased childhood friend. The process would take many days, but nana was never too far away- no, she remained near the entrance of the cave, never allowing the man any opportunity of escape... Not that he could escape in his current condition anyways. It would have been a miracle if Sozen could have even crawled up and out of the hole.

Nana switched her tactics several times, depending on how well or negatively Sozen responded to various forms of torture. She even heated up her blades and cauterized several of his wounds, just to keep him alive a little bit longer. Eventually, he did break. She obtained much information about what had happened to her father since he had abandoned her and sought revenge. Though powerful, he had just been one man and lost most of his sensibilities to rage. He had never gotten close to the shogun before being subdued and imprisoned. He too had been tortured over several years and eventually broke, telling the shogun about the existence of his little girl Nana.

Torture seemed the only reliable way to get the truth from your enemies. Mental and physical pain just had a way with persuasion. Take Sozen for example... Not only had Nana physically tortured the man, but she hadn't fed or watered him in several days- leaving his rotting friend's corpse down there with him. Eventually Sozen had given in to the maddening pain of hunger and resorted to cannibalism. Through all of this, Nana had not bothered the man. She simply watched in pleasurable disgust as she reduced the man from a proud and loyal samurai, into a deplorable and desperate kin-eater.

Left alone for long periods of time to his dull aching pains and remorse for the inhumane things he had done to his friend's corpse... those things had likely worked better than any physical pain she could inflict upon him at any one moment. Finally he had broken though- his maddened mind eagerly telling Nana everything she wished to know about her father, as well as the shogun, his retainers and their locations. Nana was heartened that her father was till alive and would appear to be as long as Nana was as well. If Nana was captured, they would both be executed- the shogun would have it no other way. Her father's best hope, was if Nana became much stronger and carefully planned a rescue.

Sozen begged many times, pleaded pitifully even to be killed. After he had broken and told Nana everything she wished to know, she still did not kill him swiftly. No, he needed to suffer. He was left alone with the rotting corpse of his half-eaten friend. The lack of food and water caused him to become delirious and see many hallucinations. Juzo's spirit had come back to haunt him and torment him for desecrating his corpse. Sozen screamed and talked with his disembodied invisible friend for hours, which provided Nana with more information, although barely useful.

"I suppose this has gone on long enough. Soon I'll be receiving more requests from the guild for missions. I've taken as much as possible from these two men... I should leave Sozen to die pitifully in this hole, but I cannot take the chance that he may escape and warn his master." she would tell herself, more convincing herself to end the man's misery.

She would drop into the hole and stand over the emaciated man as he looked all about, seeing hallucinations of all kinds and barely even aware that a living being was standing over him.

Pitiful indeed, his muscular body had weathered away over the matter of a week and now he looked pathetic: a cripple even, from his broken bones and severed fingers. His face was barely recognizable from where Nana had beaten him so bad. His eyes no longer carried any strength or pride in who he was: no, he was merely a haunted individual.

Nana could have killed the man days ago, but she had left him alive long enough to receive as much suffering as possible. She would prefer to do similar to every single one of the shogun's retainers, and even more the the lord himself. She knew that was unrealistic however, as a shogun was heavily guarded and she would not likely get to choose the leisure way of exacting her revenge on such a pitiful man.

Nana straddled the man as she bent down low to the ground and pushed the enfeebled man backwards until his back hit the cold moist ground of the cave. Even in his prime, Nana was still stronger than he was. Now that he was weak from torture, lack of food and lack of water, it was merely child's play to force the man Sozen to do whatever she wished physically. Slowly, the tip of her dagger slipped through the man's ribs, inch by inch as it snaked its way deeper beneath the man's flesh and closer to his heart.

Although weak and lost to his mind, hi body was still very acute to the physical pains. He felt the bite of the cold steel and his body felt its mortal coil shortening even more. He screamed in agony and terror as he felt the dagger beneath his breast. His heartbeat quickened as if it would soon explode from his chest: he flailed about in a futile attempt to stay his assailant, but to no avail. With one hand firmly pressing his against the cold wet rocks, her other hand held the dagger that now softly pricked his heart. Sozen gasped in shock and horror, then the blade was fully through his heart and his breathe was lost to him.

Nana gave the short blade a sickening twist to ensure maximum damage. In the matter of seconds, Sozen's flailing and ravings fading into silent struggles as his heart futilely pumped his life blood from his open wound. In seconds, the man was dead and with the most distraught expression on his face, his eyes' gaze lingering over his friend Juzo's half-eaten corpse.

Nana wiped her dagger clean on the dead man's dirtied garments and then returned the blade to its scabbard. She turned to exit the cave, but she felt something familiar yet disturbing: a sensation return to her in a form she had experienced before. A sudden surge of darkness from within her own heart, manifesting over her own magical essence, tainting her very existence with even more darkness. "So.. This is what the devil meant.." she said out loud, realizing the implications of her contract, had changed her to less of a human than she already was. What's done was done. She did not regret her choice. Sometimes, humans did things worse than demons and devils. It was up to her to show such humans that there were far worse things out there.
