Aegir's Hand reached out to pick up the photo that had been placed on the glass table before the woman. Armored fingers that had crushed the bones of lesser beings now gently held the item up for inspection. The private meeting room was luxurious, but the focused practicality of the setting was quite on the nose. Two large padded and black leather seats sat across from each other on opposite ends of a round table. A single, yet potent, light shone down from above to clearly illuminate the scene, but withholding its radiance from revealing anything beyond the two chairs. With the door to the room closed the careful craftsmanship that had gone into its construction prevented outside light from revealing its outline. This was a room where unpleasant discussions were often held, but that only meant lucrative deals were also made here.

Easing back into her own chair as her tail dangled listlessly off an armrest Nadine patiently studied her target's facial features. She could find no sympathy within herself for this man, nor was she particularly thrilled to have been offered this job, either. However, Nadine was beginning to find that her clients from the Crimson Quarter were all prompt and professional with their payments. That level of reliability was hard to come by with shady clientele.

"This is Tom Hadvaska?" asked the demi-human flatly, unimpressed with what she saw in the photo. Her eyes shifted from the photo to patiently stare at Akabo. She had a hunch that she already know the answer to her next question, but she asked it regardless. "I'll grab him for you, but is this really all you have right now?"

"It's all I have for you right now," answered the pink haired man firmly, staring back at Nadine with an equally patient stare. "Your cooperation is noted, and this shouldn't be a difficult task for you, I'm sure."

"Of course." The woman nodded before glancing back at the photo in her hand. "I'll be taking this with me. I'll bring you back the real deal soon enough."

The first stop of the night wasn't at a gambling parlor. Places like that were far too plentiful in a place like the Crimson Quarter to start poking around aimlessly. Nadine chose to visit a brothel first, one that she had frequented before not because of what the establishment could offer her, but the other way around. The business' owner, Madam Suzumi, had proven herself before to be a fair and astute person when it came to dirty dealings. Nadine hoped that she or one of her employees might have seen Tom around somewhere before.

Nothing was ever free in this part of Hosenka, though. A favor for a favor, that was their agreed upon deal. Madam Suzumi would call in this debt at a later time, but Nadine had no doubt in her mind that her skills would be put to good use whenever that would be. The demi-human pleasantly enjoyed a warm cup of tea while waiting for her host to finish talking to her workers in private. The wait wasn't long, and while the information that came back to Nadine was minimal it was still more than nothing. Several gambling dens were named after the investigation, and the dark mage was quick to thank Madam Suzumi before quietly leaving the brothel through a back entrance.

The next place Nadine found herself in was a small, quaint casino near the entrance to the Crimson Quarter. It certainly wasn't the gaudiest building in Hosenka, but it fit in just fine for a hub of material degeneracy. Inside there were a lot of card and dice tables, and even a few roulette tables. It was all a bit more modern than the favored Joyan based games, but the place was doing well for itself in spite of that. Some time was spent simply wandering through the busier parts of the floor searching for her prey, but as expected her hunt wouldn't be that easy. She then went to the bar, and after purchasing a few drinks she was able to ask some questions of the workers. One of the bartenders did recognize Tom's picture, but the woman also mentioned that the blonde man hadn't been seen in a while. Mister Hadvaska had apparently made a scene at one of the card tables, and was chased off the grounds soon after. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence in a casino, but not many tourists wore sunglasses like the pair in Tom's photo.

Nadine slid a tip over the counter towards the bartender, and thanked her before heading back out into the night.

One step forward, another step backwards. Hunting itself was always a gamble like that. This setback didn't deter Nadine from taking another step forward, though.

One of Madam Suzumi's employees had suggested a place known for its private mahjong games. It was a place that had a little shred of discretion in its activities, with a bit of favoritism towards the locals. However, every now and then outsiders managed to stumble their way into the middle of things. For a problematic gambler like Tom a place that offered a degree of privacy would no doubt catch his eye. The building itself looked unremarkable with no signs or decor to hint at the shady dealings going on behind the scenes. There were no windows to see inside, and its large front door was firmly bolted shut when she tried opening it. In response to the effort an enchantment placed upon the door activated, and the minor illusion temporarily dispelled itself.

At head height where one might expect to find a peephole, there was a large circular window appeared instead. Its outward facing side reflected Nadine's curious face, and the woman guessed it was a one-way window of some kind.

"Beat it," barked a harsh voice on the other side of the door, "this place isn't for you, missy."

Upon confirmation of her guess, Nadine weighed the option of just punching through the door. If the mysterious voice kept being smart with her she'd give it a try. For now she held up Tom's photo in front of the window.

"I'm looking for this man. He's a gambling addict with a slow brain and fast legs. This place really isn't up to my tastes, so I won't sweat having to smash this door down and look for him myself if you're going to continue being unhelpful." That was no idle threat on Nadine's behalf, and her tone reinforced that. There was a long pause then, presumably as the person inside thought things over. The silence was abruptly interrupted by a slew of shouts behind the door, and it sounded like some angry voices were making their way towards the entrance at a very rapid pace.

Nadine raised a brow at this new development. Perhaps she'd get a bit of luck on this hunt after all.

After a moment of thought, Nadine felt that she knew what to do here. The demi-human took two steps back away from the door to avoid getting hit if it opened, and waited as the yelling increased in volume and urgency. The door suddenly opened as a blonde man with strangely shaped sunglasses burst out of the building in a hurry. Nadine was quick to grab onto the back of his jacket before he could get away, and her other hand slammed and held the large wooden door closed to cut off any interference.

"Tom Hadvaska?" asked Nadine as they locked eyes with each other. The man had been struggling to get away up until that point, but now he stood still with a dodgy look in his eyes. As much as Nadine loathed that pitiful look of desperation on her target's face, her own lips smiled in response. "Go ahead and try it, see how far you get," dared the demi-human.

The door she was holding shut rocked as someone inside tried to bash it open. The interruption provoked a glare from the woman as she glanced back at the door. She was still holding the entrance firmly closed even with one hand, but it seemed that security here wasn't about to let Tom escape. While she was looking away she felt the man scramble in her grasp before the jacket she was holding onto went limp as its owner slipped out of it. Nadine looked back only to confirm which direction Tom was running off to before dropping the jacket on the ground and raising her fist. At the next thud she felt against the door the woman buried her fist through the wooden barrier to silence her competition. Aegir's Hand pulled back from the splintered wood with splatters of blood on it, but Nadine paid it no mind. Glancing towards the direction Tom had fled in, her other weapon Indra's Gauntlet flared to life as she fed it mana.

The chase hadn't lasted very long, as Nadine had predicted. A couple dashes was all that had been required to catch up to Tom, even with his head start. The demi-human then promptly slammed a backfist into the side of Tom's head, knocking him out with little restraint.

There was no fuss after that quick attack. Nadine had even wondered for a moment if she had hit him too hard and accidentally killed him. Fortunately the man was still breathing despite his crimson soaked drool as he lay sprawled on the street. Using her nature based magic Nadine wrapped her target in thick vines from head to toe. Subduing such a weakling was no problem, but she didn't want to have to hit him again if she didn't have to. The mob probably wanted that luxury for themselves, after all. Grabbing onto a vine near the back of Tom's neck, Nadine slung the cocoon over her shoulder like a duffel bag and started making her way back to Akabo's place to collect her payment.

Once again the woman found herself profiteering off of the Crimson Quarter's infamous depravity, but she was finding herself more and more at ease with the process so long as she kept getting paid.
