Baron
Baron's journey was bound to extend well past the next town over, he was in search of magic simply put. One for himself to counter act those who had the art already mastered, in doing so he tried his best to limit distractions, but he had found such a tasks to be nearly impossible with all of the interesting people and things he discovered in his travels. As a marauder, loose term he used for traveler, he was destined to run into people and things that interested him, but at such a heavy rate wasn't prepared for nor was it expected. He was a simple man, yet it seemed people kept gravitating towards him for some odd reason.

Anyway, on the topic of his travels Baron had found himself consistently reporting to Baska's only pub for supplies. He and the owner had been bargaining and haggling prices for various items and he was certain he had him beat for an extra tent and coat for nothing but a few jewels and a favor. Baron's main intent was to get the favor taken out of the deal, but it seemed he'd need to throw in another possession of his and at the moment he sadly had nothing to barter.

At the moment he was behind the pub setting up his latest haul of supplies, it was very little, but a good haul none the less: A medicine kit, a canteen, an thin rope, a few bottles of alcohol (only one for consumption, two for medical purposes) and matches. A weak but useful pull this time around, though he still wanted the coat.

"I should have enough to camp out soon..." he mumbled.

Fiammetta Barone

Fia was beginning to think she might miss the Boar Hat Pub. Even though she'd started to become sick of Baska as a whole, she'd always had a strange relationship with the pub. It was a sanctuary to her, and not just for the lovely alcohol they had for sale. The raucous, the chaos, the homely atmosphere... It was all somehow comforting to the girl. Like a second home of sorts.

She even enjoyed working there. Following Esperia's waking from her coma, Fia had found employment as a waitress at the pub, in order to both earn funds for her home and be able to visit the other girl as she recovered in hospital. And though Esperia had long since returned to a healthy state, Fia remained working at the pub, building up a bit more cash before their eventual departure from the town. And it was on that very day she was doing just that, continuing to have her gaze set on the near future.

The day's work had been average so far. Boring, even. Fia had served regulars and newcomers, offered travelers directions, and even chatted with some of the customers. All while her boss was apparently busy haggling with a frequent guest to the pub. It was tedious work, but endurable.

Soon enough, Fiammetta was on her break, and decided to duck out the back of the pub for a cigarette. A guilty pleasure she rarely partook in, but certain recent revelations had her in need of the stress relief they provided. Besides, she had to form any addiction of sorts, so surely it couldn't be too bad to have a sneaky smoke every now then. Of course, she would still never tell Esperia about the habit.

But, once Fia found herself out the back of the pub, another man was also there, much to her surprise. The same one who'd been haggling for various miscellaneous items over the past few days. He'd quite the stockpile with him, and seemed to be going over what he'd acquired.

"You goin' bush or somethin'?" Fia scoffed at him, to try and get his attention. She'd become a bit more social as of late, and figured she might as well entertain herself with the small bit of conversation while she was there.

"I mean, don' get me wrong. Wouldn't blame ya fer wantin' to get outta this shithole of a town..."

With a quick recount of his things Baron had everything he needed or well, most of everything he needed for his excursion into the brush. It was going to be quite a trip, so having a few extra provisions was necessary for point A to point Era. That was if he remained on course. Speaking of his course judging by his map Baska was quite a walk away from his desired location, but not too far from other hot spots for quest, he’d likely get quite walk in before all was said and done.

Oddly enough he would soon be joined by a waitress as he prepared to make his exit, she asking him if he was heading into the bush, which made him chuckle, “Somethin’ like that,” he nodded whilst he closed his things and stood up with his hands on his sides, “Hm, I take it you’re not too glad to be in pleasant little Baska.”

His words feigned a southern drawl at the end, “Shithole of all shitholes and the only place with a big rock as a tourist attraction. What’s not to love,” he’d make light of her comments whilst putting his bag to the side as he made a go to sit next to the waitress. “You live here? Hope I’m not asking too personal a question, but most folks who don’t plan on living in a shithole don’t take up jobs, unless they’re giving you some under the table work… And the bonus pay can’t be too bad either.” he cackled.

Fia let out a little scoff at the man's 'guess' that she wasn't Baska's biggest fun. "Yeah, that's one way o' puttin' it." She muttered bitterly. Though Fia had met a lot of good people in Baska, the town itself hadn't really left a good impression on her. It was noisy, crowded, dirty mess, as far as she was concerned. It was a town that had caused a hell of a lot of trouble for her and Esperia...

She lingered on that thought, pulling out one of the cigarettes she intended on smoking from her pocket and putting to her lips. The other man made his own comments about Baska, prompting a light chuckle from Fiammetta. "Don' forget the markets. Baska's biggest sellin' point, the fact you can get ripped off by every fuckin' merchant in town." She commented with a snide look. The delinquent girl raised an empty hand to the cig still in her mouth, pressing her finger against its end. With her temperature-rising magic, her finger turned red as its heat rose, eventually igniting the cigarette itself.

She inhaled, exhaled, let out smoke into the air, and savored the minor stress relief it provided. The other man, meanwhile, had started commenting on her occupation, earning a sideways glare from Fia as she put her hands in her pocket. "It's called workin' part-time, jackass. Under the table work? You fuckin' wish." She let out a hearty chuckle, letting her cigarette linger on her lips as she spoke.

"I'm don' live here. Just workin' to get the cash. Gots people to fund, an' makin' plans to take a trip outta here. That shit requires makin' some money, y'know."

"Markets?" he chuckled at the very word, "You mean the rundown shacks full of pigs and snakes? That's all I see when I travel through the market district." This woman seemed to have a good sense of humor as she also disliked the town famous for a big rock and shifty sales men. Of course, Baska often put Baron in mind of his home in Bosco, but admittedly none of the merchants at his old dwelling were nearly as good at tricking people into buying crap. "I guess you can say all of the shady business is why I took to buying from the owner of this uh "bar" if we can call it that"

"Part time ha ha, and hey don't tease me now lately all of my wishes have been coming true." he'd poke a bit of fun at the stranger, but didn't mean anything by it as he waved off his own words, "HUh, Sounds like a right good idea I tell ya what." he allowed his own drawl to wander for a bit as he imitated the woman before him. He did indeed have an accent but he managed to hide it well on most days, countryside Boscan dialect was fairly hard to hide for long periods.

"Yer done livin' here? And yer fundin' folks? Lil lady sounds like you're doin' damn well. And that uniform, yes siree bob you look like a fine corn flower on a hot summer's day." he was just sprinkling in bullshit to tease, mostly to see what this fiery waitress would do. Best he braced himself.

"Hmph, far as I know, this bar's the only fuckin' decent business town. And not jus' 'cause o' the Bernia Ale" Fia groaned, somewhat understanding the man's choice to do his shopping there. The only other shop in Baska she herself had found any worth in was the tailor shop owned by Fernando. Though she didn't know a thing about fashion, the man had made a couple items for her in the past, so she didn't think too poorly of him at all.

"Yeah, well I guess yer luck's run out then." Fia would growl at the man, though the sly grin would indicate she wasn't actually pissed off yet. The man seemed fun, the loose kind of person who could take Fia's harsh words and dish some out himself. Though, he'd soon lose a lot of the good merit he'd earned with a few select words that had the stubborn and fiery lass more than a little agitated.

"The fuck are you sayin'?" She snarled, taking the cigarette of her lips and glaring it the man. Her face had slightly reddened in embarrassment, but she was mostly just angry. "Watch it, asshole. Small list o' people I'd accept that from, you ain't on it. Keep it up, and, well..." Fia crossed her arms, grinning slightly at herself for the threat she was about to deliver. "And I'll 'ave yer face lookin' worse than it already does, ya fuckin' Hobo. Then we'll see how well that line works, huh?" 'Hobo' was an apt nickname, she felt, given his ragged appearance. Realizing she might've fumed a little bit too much, Fia took a quick drag on her cigarette before looking forward again.

"Anyways, rearrangin' yer face aside, I tol' you 'bout myself, what about yous? Any reason yer here?" Fia would query, mostly in the interest of returning the same questions he'd just asked her.

She spoke on in her delightful drawl, he couldn’t tell if she was legitimately this country or playing him for a goofball, either way he enjoyed her company while he could. In all honesty he couldn’t fault her for picking up a part time job in this shit hole town. Jewels were sprace these days and any source of income was greatly appreciated when it came by, though wearing a cute little uniform and waiting tables wasn't his style, not that he wouldn’t look good in one of those uniforms, he wasn’t a bad look guy after all.

“Ha,” he stifled a laugh when she grinned at him, this one seemed to be of a good sort, not like most he had come across. She seemed to understand most of where he was coming from, she didn’t mince words or pull punches, that was a rare attribute in most folks. What a delightful day this was, given it wasn’t going anywhere before this feisty waitress. What a woman! She reminded him of one of his sisters back on the ranch, testy and tough.
The profanity shot at him with venom behind it and he relished the moment with a grin conceding to her words with a nod and a raise of his hands in surrender before she really did pummel him to a pulp. “Easy, easy, I’m just poking fun your accent is delightful after all! Plus I’m the best looking hobo you’ve ever seen.” he stroked his beard and turned his head to the side in profile. Sure, she could have roughed him up, but even when he was black and blue he was still SHINY.

“Well, I’m on a quest I guess you can say.” he answered her question with a slightly dazed tone as he tried to piece his story back together, “I’m looking to gain supplies and jewels, despite Baska’s boring appearance plenty of folks need shit done around here.” he chuckled to himself, “Though I guess you can say I also started traveling south from Oak to meet people like you.~ Good folks I mean. Not the punch in the face part.”

In spite of how she'd reacted to the man's comments, Fia couldn't really say she hated the company that much. Sure, his words were a bit poorly placed and certainly aimed at the wrong person, but his reaction to Fia's outburst made the steampunk a little guilty for how she'd handled it. He'd mostly brushed off her threats, but not in a way that seemed dense or stubborn, but more like he was willing to take the joke and laugh it off, even return some of the banter.

She grinned a little smugly at his following comment, unable to realize she reminded him a bit of some of the other men in her family, able to talk and take shit like any true Barone. "Hah, dream on, you damned mutt!" She'd quip at him as he showed off his profile and beard, smirking as she kept up the banter. "I ain't exactly got the biggest strike zone, but ain't hard to guess you ain't exactly a hit with the ladies. Hell, reckon I've got more luck with 'em than you." Her teasing was merciless, but it's about the level she was used to from the Barone household. There wasn't such a thing as proper etiquette in that large estate, only respect, honor and pride.

After that brief verbal sparring, the man answered Fia's question about what brought him to Baska, they seemed a bit vague about his exact intentions. Apparently, he was on a quest of some sort, some kind of traveler or adventurer or sellsword, Fia wasn't quite sure what he fell under really. His little comment about meeting nice people like Fia earned him a quick scoff, before she added her own two cents.

"Yeah yeah, I'm freakin' great, I know." She'd growl sarcastically, mostly because she just wasn't that comfortable with compliments. Never had been. "Anyways I wouldn' recommend stayin' too long 'ere. Even if I get what ya mean be there bein' people to meet..." Fia would muse, thinking back on all those she'd encountered already. She'd made more friends - and others - during her few months in Baska than she had the rest of her life.

"Yeah... Travellin' to meet people. I get that." She mused softly, taking another drag on her cigarette, looking atypically thoughtful for a moment. "Lots o' decent folk out there, if yer willin' to look past all the bastards and pigs and assholes...."

She was still vicious with her words! The latest quip earned yet another laugh from him, he crossed his arms and and nodded, he could respect the fire she had but he realized soon enough that she wasn't exactly the delicate type as his comments seemed to rub her the wrong way. With a tilt of his head he placed his hands on his knees trying to get to eye level with her and narrowed his eyes, "Pssh, I bet I can nab the ladies just as good as you! i am a prime rib, filetminon," he said the words wrong probably but likely got his point across.

"You don't get beef like me at just any market!" he flexed his muscles, her comments on the degenerates of Fiore caught his attention as he smirked at her, "Given the conversation we just had it seems we're a pair of assholes and we seem like good company!" he beamed at her, "Besides, what's wrong with being an asshole? Get more ladies that way." he nodded jokingly, "You talk a real big game for such a small lady though, you must be packin' some mighty magic with such a sharp tongue, you blowin' up cities or something? Pack a punch?"

He wasn't backing down, that was for sure. The scruffy looking guy was either cocky as hell, or had thicker skin than Fia had expected. Her grin grew as their almost sibling-like banter went on, getting just as amped up as their little 'ladykiller' competition continued to get heated, petty, and above all else, fun as hell.

"Psht, yer dreamin' man!" Fia would utter dismissively as she stood up to flex her own smaller yet still toned physique. "Only person lookin' fer beef like that is the butchers! Ladies like 'em a little leaner, ya hear? Not like yer fat ass!" She didn't hold back, the Barone girl, using every opportunity she had to try and tease her newfound acquaintance, even if she had yet to even hear his name.

Baron continued to talk on about how they were really a pair of assholes themselves, to which Fia left out a loud scoff of approval. She couldn't really deny it, after all, not after the pissing contest they'd just had. "Tch. Assholes get girls, don't mean they can keep 'em." Fia would comment quietly at one of Baron's statements. Though she talked a lot of shit, truthfully speaking she wasn't much interested in picking up girls, thanks to a certain dark-haired trickster. The beefy man continued to run his mouth, inquiring about Fia's magic and earning himself another scoff.

"Heh, got all the 'magic' I need right 'ere!" She'd proclaim as she held up her fists. "Don't believe me? Shit, I got plenty o' tricks. I can use 'em to make ya go black and blue, dontcha know?" A cocky grin found itself on her face as she did a bit of shadow boxing, before taking the question a bit more seriously.

"Forreal though, ain't got much in the way o' magic at the moment. Had to... Rethink what I used to use. Now just gotta find a decent replacement." She'd explain a little vaguely, before turning back to Baron. "Whatta 'bout you? Ya got anythin', or are ya all bark and ain't got shit for bite?"

Baron
It had occurred to Baron that this woman had a very loud bark, and her confidence put him in mind that her bite might just match. Weary of her, he would treat her with respect, else he'd end up like he did last time, though the last time he scored a nice gaggle of bananas. He smiled at her as she called him fat, though the insult hit him moderately he retracted a hand to his stomach. It was true, he wasn't the most lean, but he wasn't fat! He was bulky if anything, thick. He was strong, lots of muscles and what not. That was all!

"Hey, hey, I'm just teasing... The way you keep threatening me I'm starting to think you want to actually pummel my pretty face!" he joked on, rubbing his jaw now, "Well... I do have something, it's not magic but uh, it's good enough to keep me afloat if someone tried messin with me." he snickered.

"Darlin' I ain't even got ya name, we've been bickering so much. I'm Baron." he extended a hand, "Now, you know how to shake don't ya?" he teased with a smile, "Very easy thing to do, ya put your paw in mine... Joking!" he ran away from her, "Ha ha! See you later cutie!"

It was a fun, if brief distraction from her work, the little bouts of banter between her and this stranger. Just two rough and tough 'assholes' talking shit while they took a break from the tough work that kept them breathing. They might not have exactly been them most eloquent or well-spoken people, but their words carried across enough raw honesty and meaning for them to understand each other quite well, it seemed.

Fia just shot Baron an almost threatening grin as he inquired whether Fia might just be aiming to pummel him, as if to answer the question for him. When he talked about his own magic, however, all he earned was a furrowed brow. It seemed he was being as vague as Fiammetta on the matter, for some unknown reason. "Dunno what the hell yer talkin' 'bout, but it don' sound all that great." Fia grunted skeptically at the man's talk of his magic substitute.

In a sudden move, the as-of-yet-unintroduced man decided to blurt out his name to Fia, prompting a handshake. "Yeah I know how shake yer hand, know how ta' break it too, jackass. Oh, names Fia, by the way." Was the steamy punk's less than friendly self-introduction. Not moments after that, the strange burly man suddenly called her cute and ran off, prompting a confused and angry look at Fia.

"Huh? The fuck is yer problem, ya damn mutt!" She shouted after him in rage, and was just about to chase him down when another waitress popped her head out, notifying Fia that her break was over.

The delinquent girl let out a scoff, dropped her cigarette and stepped into the ground, and wandered inside. That'd been an interesting way to spend her break, to say the least.
