Tsukishima Higurashi
There was a bit of a chill as Daisuke made his way to Doctor Sakyo’s laboratory. Rubbing his hands together and pulling up the black duster he wore, he made his way up the stairwell towards the Ivory Palace. It had been a few days since the twins had gone their separate ways for training. Misora had sent word through their parents that she was alright and that her training had begun according to plan. Her decision to not inform Daisuke of this personally meant that she strove to keep the extent of her training, and the fruits that it would eventually bear, a secret from him. While it did not bother Daisuke, he did make him slightly reconsider his training plans. He could only reach so high of a plateau fighting the doctor’s demon creations. Eventually, he would need to change up his game plan to truly reach the heights he sought. The question now was just where would he be able to find such a challenge?

As he reaches the top of the stairwell, Commander Tachibana greets him. “Lieutenant Sato, a pleasure to see you.” She says as she extends her hand for a shake. Daisuke shakes her hand firmly. “It’s actually Captain now.” he says warmly as she ushers him inside the building. “Oh, I hadn’t heard. My apologies and congratulations on the promotion. I assume your sister has also reached the same rank?” She says as Daisuke nods in agreement. As they walk, her brief comment from one of their last meetings suddenly comes up in Daisuke’s mind. Seeing no time like the present to press her about it, he decides to ask. “May I ask a question Commander?” he says. She nods her approval as Daisuke quickly formulates how he wants to word it. “When my sister and I first arrived, you mentioned that we were ‘his’ replacements. Who were you talking about? The doctor wouldn’t mention it either.” Commander Tachibana’s facial expressions change at the mention of his question, becoming visibly saddened by it. Daisuke, noticing this, quickly realizes that he probably should not have said anything.

“I’m sorry, it seems like that is a sore topic.” The commander quickly comes to her senses and returns to her usual stoic visage before replying. “It’s alright. Sharyar Xerxes was his name. He was a Desiertian with a rather…questionable background. He was the owner of the legendary Spear, Jotunn’s Fang. He was the first to help with the doctor’s clean up. He did the job rather diligently but suddenly just disappeared. Jotunn’s Fang has a new owner and no one has seen or heard from him since. Unknown if he's alive or dead.” She shakes her head at the thought and remains silent for the remainder of the trip to the doctor’s location. Bidding Daisuke farewell, she leaves him as he enters the doctor’s laboratory. “Ah, Captain Sato. A pleasure to see you again. I see Ms. Sato is not with you. Will she be joining you later?” “No. You’re stuck with me.” Daisuke says shortly. He was still irritated from the last visit with the doctor and with Misora not here to stop him, he wanted to limit the amount he spoke less he became provoked.

“Of course, this one would decide to go to a residential area when Misora isn’t with me.” Daisuke exclaims as he sprints full speed down the streets of Crocus towards the Domus Flau. Upon hearing that the creature had made its way down the mountains and was last spotted near the Domus Flau, Daisuke did not stay to hear about the creature’s weaknesses or anything else regarding it. Given his position as a Rune Knight, he knew that he had to prioritize the safety of the citizens in the area at all costs. “Has the creature attacked anyone or caused any damage?” Daisuke says as he holds the communication lacrima given to him by the doctor. “No. This one usually prefers to shy away from human interactions unless provoked. It seems to have taken residence within the Domus Flau. Fitting I suppose.” The doctor chuckles on the other end of the lacrima. Though relieved, Daisuke still continues forward at full speed to prevent anything further from happening.

Daisuke quickly enters the Domus Flau, taking in the sights of the large open battle arena. The youth quickly scan the area and spot the target. The creature, colored in all black, was wrapped around one of the four statues. Its head resembled that of a King Cobra while the lower half was reminiscent of a Komodo dragon. The body was covered in scales and a single yellow stripe ran down its neck. A shiver went down Daisuke’s spine as the head reminded him of snakes and his fear of them. “I hate him.” Daisuke says as he immediately pulls out Galantine as the sword is engulfed in flames. In response, the sides of the creature’s head expand as red gill-like organs appear. The creature shoots out a pale-yellow fluid that Daisuke narrowly dodges. Daisuke looks at the fluid as it begins to erode through the ground. “Great, it spits acid. I really hate him.” Daisuke bemoans as he readies himself for a fight. Though heavily resembling a snake, there was just enough of a difference that he wouldn’t be horribly affected by it. That said, he wanted to maintain his distance all the same.

The creature, with fangs bared and dripping with the yellow liquid, lunges towards Daisuke with the intent to rip his head off. Daisuke quickly dodges the lunge as the creature lands with a resounding thud. He manages to take in the full breadth of the creature’s size, in awe of the beast in front of him. Suddenly, he is met with a resounding smack from the creature’s tail as he is knocked a considerable distance back. He slides back, barely catching his footing as he sees the creature charging towards him. He knew that he needed to end the skirmish quickly less the now agitated creature decide to venture out and attack the residents. Trailing his hand along the blade, Daisuke unleashes a torrent of fire towards the snake-like creature. The flames make contact with the beast as a ghoulish roar emanates from its mouth. It seemed to be locked in place due to a combination of pain and the intensity of the flames, something Daisuke sought to take advantage of. The creature spits out acid at all sides as Daisuke continues to pour on more and more waves of flames. The howls fill the area as Daisuke moves to end the fight once and for all.

He dashes forward, hands tightly wrapped around Galantine’s handle. As he gets close, he plants his feet and moves his blade back. The creature turns his head towards Daisuke and opens its mouth, glands beginning to moisten. Daisuke, after seeing it previously, knows all too well what is coming. As such, he increases the temperature of the flames and begins his sword down with all of his might, cleaving the head from the body. The creature’s head falls to the charred ground as acid begins to dribble from its mouth. Taking a sigh of relief, Daisuke wipes his brow and sheaths his weapon. Glancing at the still burning remains of the beast, Daisuke places his hand towards the communication lacrima on his ear. “Doctor, the creature is dead. I had to increase my fire quite a bit to keep it contained. You might not be able to extract much from it.” “Not to worry Captain, I managed to get very valuable data. You have my thanks as always.” He says before disconnecting the line. From his words, Daisule felt a sense of unease but grumbled to himself that there was nothing that could be done for the moment. One day, hopefully soon, he’d get to deal with him personally.
