Coming to a stop in some brightly unknown Magnolia streets brings Vice to his next task. Fighting a little made him realize his equipment's not that great, so he's going to hold off on provoking anymore strong mobs. Daylight saving his life is preferred than fighting at nighttime, and not getting true meaning. Rather than finding upgrades to his items mysteriously, Vice just wants a reliable supplier. Building up adrenaline to get a worthless item that is on the legendary scale of worthlessness? Vice hates wasting too much time. Researching reliability gets Vice to this little shopping area he's in. Taking too many choices and not settling for something can bring happiness to a stop. A smith called Barras can fulfill the need Vice is looking to establish. Nice guys like Barras are the ones who get the most reliable contacts, but Vice doubts he'll be available to get anything from Barras. Learning about future items can be a helpful experience to the adventures of Vice at least. Looking serious in learning might get Vice closer to Magnolia. Ultimately, it's unlikely that Vice will be staying in this city for long. Nothing special has happened to keep him there, yet.

Defending Magnolia could go against Vice's interests in Blue Pegasus, so he's just looking to give surface help to Barras. Whatever trivial shipment is coming in to the smith's shop won't be worth much to Barras. Such an obvious prank poses little danger, so at least Vice expects this quest to give little difficulty. Even fake goods can give Vice some basic appraisal knowledge. With the goods being supposedly high quality for pocket change, Vice figures he'll get to meet some basic low-end socialites. Coming up to the entrance of Barras's shop, Vice takes a cursory look inside, but just knocks on the door to encourage Barras first.

Learning a craft can take a long time, so if Vice wants to understand appraisal, he doesn't want to come off as underestimating it. Fulfilling Barras's task is what's most important to him anyway. Darting away from the door, as quick as he came to it, Vice gets the up-to-date details of the quest from Barras. Nice guy even gave money that can be stolen. Barras could expect a wizard can know the difference between fake stuff, but Vice just is going to be winging the day out. The townspeople are probably scared with not much Fairy Tail. Becoming a powerful pillar of support can be an interesting play. Pillars don't move around and get to be statues of laziness. Fanning himself from heat boredom, Vice continues to pull down his thoughts, and reaches the direction for his quest. Shady parts of a city full of justice aren't that ironic. The worst parts of society will always be there, and they're better managed by themselves.

The walking best part of society, Vice, comes up to a dark alleyway where the quest trade shall take place. What's noticed first by Vice is a pleasant smell, that contrasts with ore goods that are bundled together chaotically. All the way in the corners of the alleyway are what looks like trashbags, but are apparently filled with the ore Vice is looking for. Nodding his head, Vice goes to check out the goods as the merchant and his aide approach this mage. Nothing is tipped off by Vice's inspection, that looks familiar to how the shady merchant conducts illegal trades. As time goes on, feeling overtly familiar, the merchant begins to get on guard. All Mr. Shady wanted to do today was make some quick money off a shop. Why does some Barras guy get to have an open and positive work environment?

Not thinking much ahead, a typical grunt, the merchant signals his aide to go pickpocket Vice. Throwing out the payment into the ore pile, Vice looks happy his task's done. Leaning down towards the ore bags still, Vice has finished his inspection, and sees all sort of shady perfumes on the ores. Even though the ores smell good, they have signs of being boorishly handled in general, enough that an amateur like Vice can notice. Once the illegal aide approaches close enough, Vice feints his own hand moving toward the ore again. Keeping to the darkness regularly isn't enough to hide Vice's staff he carries in his other hand. From the initial moment, the illegal pair had already noticed Vice's weapon, so they were more on-guard to it. Or is it a walking cane, rather than a staff? Not looking to help the thoughts of his enemy, Vice just completes the extension of his free hand, and grasps the throat of the merchant's aid.

"Darkness Magic can be scary in it's diverse way to damage. It doesn't really matter until you reach 0 HP, but your final hours can really suck. What if I rot out your body's soul and-" Explaining peacefully is Vice's peace.

"Sorry! Ore's not ours and it's stolen. We're so sorry. Please leave and we'll never do it again!" Illegal business tends to come to a close quickly, so the merchant's aide begs scripted.

"I don't think justice works that way man. What if you killed some people for this ore?" Comfortable enough to banter with a talkative fighter, Vice didn't feel threatened by the bodyguard from the start. A talkative guy it only seems, but Vice doesn't feel any appeal to knowing an evil life story. Hugging a guy's throat with a palm that can kill them is making Vice uncomfortable. If the bodyguard had any sort of advantage, he seems like he'd make fun of Vice somehow. With this guard needing to be the one to take the risks in mugging, it was easy for Vice to just play along for now.

Enchanted items peerlessly give the physical advantage over the bodyguard. Poor training can only bring up an evildoer so much. Too bad Barras's new supplier isn't up to any good. The quest doesn't need Vice to exact justice, all he needed was to exact justice on his own finances. That bodyguard actually reached for Vice's staff! Vice can't even blame them, since the payment for the ore is much lower than the price of that stick. Taking back the agreement in earnest, Vice throws the bodyguard over to the merchant. Punishment? Vice has a soft spot for this interaction, and isn't of the mind to think up anymore ideas.

It's not really a waste of mana for Vice's Void Magic, more like just wasting a moment if he uses his magic. Escalating things by showing the effects of his magic isn't sporty. Expanding his horizons for the day, Vice got impressed that the ore was successfully stolen and real, at least. If Barras wasn't on the light side, Vice could just fence the ore on over to make the best use of time. Neutral fencing isn't illegal for Vice to do? Last time Vice tried to bank over some jewels to evil, so that Vice could save the day! Evil and good transaction didn't work out! Smarty Barras knew this situation might happen, unlike Vice, but at least Vice is surprised the ore is high quality. Imperial authorities and their sensory magic is devilish.

The consequences are too much of a risk if Vice wanted to work with the crazies. Going back to the forge of Barras, Vice is asked to keep the jewels for this quest and hard work. Yeah, where else would the jewels go? Vice isn't running a free lunch. Mr. Barras can go pick up rocks if he wants charity, or pick up the ones that come out behind him. Shiny stuff, shiny life. Dark ores being touched by Vice would have flown him into a rage. The quest couldn't have been better done by Vice's limited ideas. Securing the payment brings Vice's interests to rest for the day, and he goes to find hilarity elsewhere.
