Ri Brighte

RI BRIGHTE

Ri’s hand lightly stroked the fur of his companion, earning himself a happy chuff right back from the animal. He smiled. Even now, when he was next to him, he couldn’t believe the luck that had struck him. The thought of going back home just to visit had earned him the companionship of this „big boy”, and his love and affection. Granted, they had a rocky start, at least until he had gotten used to Ri, and the mage had gotten used to him, but by now they were inseperable.

He sighed, and dug into his pocket, taking out a crumpled piece of paper, and unraveling it. He squinted, and checked the details of the mission once again. He really needed to keep that pair of glasses with him, because this was getting more and more aggravating. Not being able to read some pamphlets was one thing, but going to a restaurant and not being able to pay was another. Still, he shook his head, and decided to ignore those thoughts for now.

He’s got this. He knows the mission. Why the need to check it twice, right?

He so forgot the name of the guy who gave it to him.

Still, here he was, in the forest, with his tiger buddy by his side, ready for adventure.

In all honesty, he finds the forest to be quite calming. Now in the winter more-so, the snow muffling the sounds of anything that moves and leaving only silence around him. He didn't mind that. It was a change of pace from the usual hectic lifestyle he had, especially when it came to his acting gig.

He was broken out of his thoughts by the distant sound of giggling and laughter, echoing throughout the woods, and around him. Ri stopped right in his tracks and listened. A small growl began to arise from behind him, and he silently extended a hand to pet the tiger's head, to both calm him down, and to be able to focus on the sound easier. It sounded like exactly what he needed: high pitched squeals, shifting around him, exactly as if they were running around him.

Ri slammed his foot in the ground, and with one push, he was sent forwards, between the trees, and right into one of the leaping goblins that giggled around him. He could hear the distant roar of Domino behind him, but he cared not, wrapping his arms around the little bugger, and holding him close to his chest as the momentum slowed to a halt, and he found himself back first into the snow.

"Hi there." He began, but before he could even think of continuing his sentence, the little bugger began screeching his lungs out. Ri yelped in surprise at the sudden sound, and reflexively let go of him, allowing him to escape from his mighty grasp. Damned be his sensitive ears. Well, one would think everyone's ears would be sensitive to this kind of sound.

The goblin quickly began to scuttle away, but not before Ri ran right behind it, yelling out for him to stop. Damn, he was fast. Those little legs did him wonders it seemed.

Still, soon enough, he was face to face with the perpetrators. Five lil' goblins, standing in a circle, all glaring at him. One of them, the one in the back, held the bag of gems he was supposed to take back. Ri's eyes set on that one.

He then extended his hand, "Give 'em."

"Give what?"

"The gems."

"What gems?"

"The gems that you stole."

"We don' know anythin' about those."

"You don't?"

"We don't."

"Then what's that behind you?"

"It's a bag."

"What's in the bag?"

"Gems, sir."

"Well, that's what I'm looking for. Give me the gems."

"What gems?"

"The gems in the bag."

"What bag?"

"The bag that you're-" At that moment, Ri stopped and let out a groan, "For the love of- Give me the goddamn bag!" He suddenly yelled, taking a threatening step forwards. The goblins hissed at him, and all, at the same time, took a step back. Ri took another one, and the goblins did the same. They repeated this, until the little creatures hit a wall. Of fur. And fluff. The one holding the gems gulped, and looked above, at the bared teeth of Domino.

He let out a sudden screech and threw the bag of gems aside, running away, his little band of misfits right behind him.

Well, that was also a win, Ri thought. It was better than fighting the poor creatures. He stepped forwards and grabbed the small satchel, opening it and looking inside. With a satisfied nod, he started forwards, gently patting the tiger's head and motioning for him to follow. Really, he would have thought this would be harder, but he ain't complaining.
