ManaIt was only a short while that Hector spent in Astera, but it was a solid haul. He had to flee before anyone had caught on to his deeds and followed his trail. Killers needed to keep themselves safe before all else, after all. It would be a waste to carry this money and not have anything to do with it.
The brigand had no clear destination in mind, but settled on Baska merely because it was the closest place he could think of with work to be done. Sometimes a change of scenery was all it took to tie one's motivations together. To this, Hector lit up a cigarette as he walked. It was a joyous occasion in which one could find themselves having the financial freedom and lack of obligations to move around so often. It was days like today that Hector knew he had chosen the proper career path for repaying his debts. Admittedly, whenever the word, "debt" was brought into play it stifled his excitement, but he was tempered enough at this stage of his life that he wouldn't let something like that stop him for long. He was a cynic to be sure, but life without happiness was pointless.
Thoughts of family shifted around. What were they doing at the moment? Working in a coal mine? Fighting in slave pits? Among everyone, Hector truly did feel something resembling pain and sorrow for their situation. Ultimately, this money was all for their sake, after all. Something akin to a heart still existed for the sake of his parents, as old and grey as they no doubt were becoming. At times Hector doubted that they were even still alive, but he had to hold on to hope.
They have to be alive. There's no way they aren't., he thought.
After some time spent zoning out on the road and reflecting on his life, he eventually arrived in Baska.
