Hiketsu

First steps towards Knighthood

Compared to Magnolia, the Town of Era seemed to be the adult of the family. Wherever he looked, whatever he stared at, everything gave Hiketsu serious vibes. Era was not a town where you could go for a drink and relax afterwards. No, it seemed to be a town built on dynamism, where the populace was on constant move and no one had time to waste. On top of that, the few locals Hiketsu interacted claimed that Era had almost no crime and was virtually one of the safest towns in Fiore, if not the safest. Who would be so imprudent to carry out illegal activities near the heart of the Rune Knights?

Finding the headquarters was rather straight-forward, given how the Rune Knights building was on top of what seemed to be a rocky mountain thrown by nature right in the center of the town. By the time Hiketsu reached the main garden, more and more mages from all over Fiore started to show up as well. As he was walking down the pathway, towards the entrance, chit chats from different individuals reached his ears. Among those, rumours that barely any one passes caught Hiketsu's interest. Was it such a difficult task to get enrolled as a Rune Knight? Perhaps they simply had high standards, which of course Tsu planned to surpass.

Everyone around seemed to be tensed up or anxious, but Hiketsu remained calm as he pushed the doors open and entered the Head Quarters. He asked the guards that were on stand by about the registration hall and they pointed him in the right direction. The registration hall was a long room decorated with medieval assets, ranging from ornate shields to weapons and banners of the Magic Council. As he approached one of the available registration desks, a lady in charge of paperwork greeted him and explained the process. It wasn't hard to understand how the recruiting worked and as soon as the lady was done talking, Hiketsu asked for the papers right away. He then proceeded to sign them, reading the clause, the regulations and writing down all important details such as his height, weight and affinity towards magic - or in his case the lack of a clear affinity.

He wasn't a magical wizard girl, but he knew how to defend himself and was highly motivated to enroll as a Rune Knight because Barras recommended it to him. For a blacksmith, Barras clearly knew how life in Fiore works and his wisdom had deep roots in various life experiences, therefore this was probably the best course of action for a foreigner such as Hiketsu.

After double checking all of his documents, making sure he signed everything that he needed to sign and that there were no suspicious clauses, he handed the papers back to the lady and went out of his way to smile - something atypical for him - and politely say: "Please allow me to join your ranks and become a soldier among the Rune Knights. Thank you."
