“Ahhhhh, welcome, welcome~”

A pleasing little tinkle sounding from a bell above her head as she slipped inside a rather fancy looking shop in the centre of town, Zoey Luciano found herself being greeted twofold as the cheerful little chime above her was followed almost immediately by the soft words of a man who preferred to let his loud image do the talking. Fernado’s Fabulous Fabrics the height of fashion in this rural town, while many preferred to wear simple working clothes and items that were loose and easy to clean, if someone wanted something rather more special, then this was the place that they got it.

Everything in here looks as lovely as ever~ The delicately voiced owner might have looked a little bit foolish with fur wrapped around his neck a pink ‘broom’ of hair above his brow, but he really knew what he was doing, and as such it always felt a treat to come into a place like this. The shelves and racks replete with items that were just simply fabulous as the name of the store might have implied, though it was perhaps a rare gift for a family like Zoey’s to pop into this upmarket locale, she found that she always enjoyed it.

Maybe, once I become a big time mage, I can stop by places like this for all my clothes? Not the most glamorous girl really and the type who tended to tear her dresses sooner or later after some reckless use of them, the golden girl loved to look at the pretty items that abounded around her all the same and hope that one day she might wear them as well as her sister did. Cecilia always so graceful and glamorous, there seemed nothing she couldn’t wear and look lovely really, which was something that her sibling had always envied really…

“Ara ara… If it isn’t little Zoey?”

Perhaps being a little bit on the rude side as she spent a moment or two looking around the shop with a quiet sense of awe and entirely ignoring the owner who had greeted her, luckily for the blushes of this fair fifteen year old, the soft voice of the flamboyant fashionista showed little annoyance at this trait.
“H-Hello, Mr Milano~ it’s nice to see you, today.” The pink haired proprietor placing whatever he was working on down on his worktop and taking off a rather elegant pair of half-moon spectacles as well as he looked her over, though her behaviour and the note that she was ‘little’ Zoey provoked a little colour to fill her cheeks, the golden girl was glad that he wore a smile given her reason for being here and greeted him pleasantly.

“Goodness, goodness, my dear. Mr Milano is my father, don’t you know? Fernando is much better, if you please~”

Or at least, that was what she thought. The happy little greeting that our heroine gave up seeming to offer some unintended degree offense, the colour in the cheeks of the teen increased as she was rebuked by the man, albeit in a playful fashion. No doubt the glamorous man who owned the shop hating to be reminded of how old he was getting, much like any enthusiast of personal beauty would be, and the stuffy title and surname approach that had been aimed with an offering of respect was rejected by the peacocking person, which forced the femme to revise her approach.
“O-Oh, um… Then… Good Morning, Fernando. You’re looking lovely today~” Pausing for a second or two as she reconsidered the greeting that she had given, while many might have simply moved on from the issue toward the business they intended within the store, with an aim to make a good impression Miss Luciano did not opt for such a rushed method. Instead trying a little charm on a soul whom she was rapidly sensing liked to be showered with compliments than more formal manners of respect, the blonde from Bosco hoped she could amend her introduction and reap the rewards that would follow in their business arrangement.

“Aha~ Now that’s a little more like it~
It is lovely to see the woman you are becoming as well, my darling~”

Something about the expression of the tailor seeming to change at the carefully chosen words that the blonde beauty had offered up to him, though the difference was somewhat subtle, Zoey could see a look of joy seem to spread across his face that seemed a little more genuine than the smile that he greeted his customers with. The smile of the man seeming to grow a little wider and his eyes shining with a hint more light, even if the source of his happiness came from vanity, it was somewhat adorable to see such a sincere look of pleasure wash across the face of Fernando. But the creator of clothes was not the only soul in the shop right now with a patent on cuteness.

“Ehehehehe… Thanks~” The praise that was tossed toward Miss Luciano in exchange for her own something that made her giggle softly and lift her hands into the long, golden locks that flowed from her head, the colour in the cheeks of the teen shined brighter than ever at the casual compliment that she was given. Used to receiving praise for her magic skill or the more daring aspects of her character, having lived somewhat in the shadow of her resplendent older sister, having her own attractiveness pointed out had been a rarer thing for the sunshine starlet.

It certainly no kind of lie either, while the fifteen year old girl was still finding her feet as a woman, she was clearly going to be a beauty one day. Dressed casually in a short sleeved shirt alongside shorts and simple sandals, her glowing amber eyes and hair that looked as sweet and colourful as honey were only complimented further by the emerging curves that she was starting to develop as her childish chubbiness melted away to reveal something more adult and appealing…

“Heeheeheehehee~ So, what is it that I can do for you today, dear~?
I’m afraid that your sister’s dress isn’t quite ready just yet, if it’s about that?”
The man behind the counter seeming to derive his own sense of amusement in the reaction that Miss Luciano showed toward the praise he had given her and giggling softly and rather girlishly because of it, after letting out a sigh that was as soft as any of the other expressions he would make, Fernando got down to business. Or as best he could. Speculating on the reason that had brought the golden eyed girl to his establishment and making a guess that it had something to do with her sister, it was the most reasonable assumption given the fact that Cecilia tended to come to the place in order to get the gowns she wore when she performed, and this was reflected in the fact that the man seemed to already have an order outstanding for the girl. However, as good a guess as it was, it was not right on this occasion at least.

“Oh, no, not about that…” Our honey haired heroine shaking her head as she dismissed the notion that she was here on an errand from her sister or mother, perhaps because she felt an odd twinge of nerves at the fact that she was here about work given this was her first time, Zoey paused after dismissing the notion and pushed her hand into the back pocket of the black shorts she was wearing.
“Actually, I’m here about this?” Producing a prop that was as bright a shade of pink as any flamboyant piece that made up the appearance of the proprietor which had been folded over several times in order to accommodate the space into which it had been tucked, after unfurling the little item that had brought the blonde beauty to this locale, the lass with locks of lemon offered it out to Mr Milano, guessing it was the easiest way to account for her presence and to cut to the heart of the matter really.

“Ohoooo~ On the job, huh?
Looking to earn some pocket money?”

The man that owned the shop not really needing to look at the bright piece of paper and the perfectly scripted words that it carried in order to understand what Zoey had unfurled, it would be easy for Fernando to recognise the flyer that she carried because it was something he had created. A simple but stylish looking flyer catching the golden eye of the young woman as she had gone about her business, though it was likely intended to catch the eye of a professional mage the blonde Boscosi reckoned that she would be up to the task that it demanded, though she was merely fifteen years old the young woman knew from her experiences in helping out at the store that her mother ran that she was up to a little gopher work, especially when the pay was this good.

“W-Well yeah, something like that, I suppose?” The monetary reward that would be involved in this little mission that she had chosen not exactly why she had gone to the trouble of applying for this little task, while it might have been nice to have a little cash in her pocket to buy some cute clothing or sweet snacks for a while, in reality the reason behind Miss Luciano’s interest actually lay with her future. Idly carrying the ambition of moving into mage work once she was old enough that she could set out into the wider world, in many ways this was a kind of test that the lass could use to measure how well she might take to such things, and how her interest might hold in such jobs. So in a way, this was like work experience; a little taster of what might be waiting for her one day.

”The truth is… I kinda wanna be a mage when I get older, in a guild so… I’m trying to learn the ropes and stuff?”  So certain that she wanted to head out and make a name for herself with her magic ever since she had been a rambunctious little girl, though Zoey felt a little sheepish about revealing her intent she felt it was pointless to be shy about such things in the scheme of things. Some part of her knowing that she would never make it in this vast world of ambition if she couldn’t spell out her own desires to another without a sense of shame or shyness, the young blonde remembered how proud she had been to think of her dear old dad as a mage and tell her friends of his job, and hoped that one day she could feel the same when talking about herself. So, with that in mind, the least that she could do was state her intention as clearly as she could, because sooner or later the golden haired girl was sure she would run into someone a whole lot more intimidating than the tailor who she faced right now.

“Ohhhhhh~? Heheheheh, well I can hardly argue with your ambition, now can I?
I like my shop here but I’d love to have a boutique in the capital or one of the other big cities and a nice list of rich and famous clients, so let’s hope we both make it to our goals, hmmmm?”

Perhaps on some level expecting the man to laugh at her for declaring her ambition so boldly given the background she had come from, the affirmation that was offered by her prospective employer encouraged and delighted Miss Luciano, inspiring a broad grin on her face and a nod from the young woman as she slapped her hands onto her hips with pride.
“Heheheheh, you got it~ Let’s dream big, and make it bigger!” The mood of the blonde only growing brighter thanks to the support she was shown, as she shone with a smile the beauty from Baska lifted up her fingers to make a little ‘V’ shape no matter how cheesy it looked as she returned that reassurance with no shortage of gusto, feeling good about the job that lay ahead of her and the prospects of her future as well…

Damn, another bust. I wonder what’s going on? The forehead of the fair femme tightening as she slipped out of yet another wholesalers store empty handed, though Miss Luciano had been on her ‘simple job for some time now, she had little to show for it other than a sense of confusion really. Baska not the largest place in the world but a bustling market that drew people from the surrounding towns and villages to sell their wares, the blonde had been bewildered by the fact that despite the assurances of Mr Milano, so many places seemed to be bereft of anything she sought.

Did something happen on the silk roads or something? Supplies drying up? Certainly the simpler fabrics seeming to be in abundance but what the master of the material sought was something with a little more specialness, and right now, that seemed to be in short supply really. Naturally the flow of goods often influenced by the events of the world, when shipping lanes and caravan routes were disturbed by upheavals and conflicts it tended to affect things more than one might have expected, which was an easily lesson to learn as a shopkeepers daughter.

I suppose there’s only one thing for it… Better head to the merchant’s bazaar? Sometimes it simply took time for goods to pop up again after trouble had blighted trade, but with the demands of well-paying clients behind her and the reputation of the town’s finest fashionista on the line, Zoey knew she couldn’t simply sit it out and wait for her wares to flow back into shops. She’d need to track them down, but luckily for her, she knew of one last place that might just be able to provide what others could not. Unfortunately, it was not her favourite place in the world….

It looks… Even busier than ever. A small sigh escaping the lips of the blonde beauty from Bosco as she reached the entrance to the indoor market that was tucked away just off the town square, though she was rarely too intimidated by company, the close and crowded environment of this lively arcade was something else. Remembering when she had come here as a little girl with her mother and not liked it, an energetic young thing hated the fact that she felt so restrained, as if she was in a cage of bodies and boisterous business, and even that wasn’t the worst thing about it really.

Mama always said not to come here though… This the den of the crafty folk, the people who would ruthlessly search for their own profit and leave everyone else poor in their wake, while the cunning might have carved out a good deal in this locale you were even more likely to get fleeced. To walk in a prince and through shady business and unscrupulous practice leave it as a pauper, many of the town tended to avoid the locale and for the largest part it was a place visited only by ignorant visitors to the area and those hoping their wits might mean they could leave with a decent deal and if they were really lucky maybe their dignity intact as well.

Though, I was a little girl when she said that? It might be risky, but Fernando needs this… Sadly, either through sheltering or simple naiveté Zoey did not know all of this, and as such viewed it largely as a venue her mother had warned her to avoid if she could, but right now that did not seem to be much of an option for her. Wary enough to keep her money gripped tightly at the very least but perhaps her youth and innocence meaning that she did not quite understand that places like this could rob you without you ever knowing it occurred, she stepped forward and entered the den of thieves that was the Baska Bazaar, hoping she might walk away with what her client had asked for but never wondering just how badly she might get ripped off by being here…

This guy has all sorts… The bazaar now stretching around the blonde now that she had breached it, as the scent of strange and exotic flavours filled her nose and a loud clamour drowned out any possibility that she might have had in picking out particular phrases or really singular voices at all, Miss Luciano found herself standing in front of what seemed to be the only stall in the place that had any hope of selling what she might have needed. Long reams of shining and shimmering materials seeming to be piled high on top of the trellis that had been set up for business to continue, though they were in the middle of farm country western Fiore, one might have been mistaken for assuming they were at a market in the capital of a distant, dusty and majestic land when one looked toward the lavish items on offer here. And only here.

And… If I’m going to get this job done today, I’m not sure I’ll have much of a choice, really? Several of the booths seeming to sell bits and bobs that included the odd ream of silk here and there but none of them specialists, the lavish taste of her client meant that he demanded no simple item in order to complete his work, but one supposed that was why it was so fine. A man who knew quality when he saw it and knew how to put that superior ‘ingredient’ to good use, the flourish of Fernando definitely earned him favour with the richer folk of the region and despite his high prices, one always got the feeling they were fair ones as well.  Whether Zoey would find such reasonable exchanges here remained to be seen really, but given the reputation of the bazaar and the appraising look in the eye of the man behind the stand, one couldn’t help but doubt that…

The stand that she had found run by a lone man who seemed to be lurching from one client to the next, while he wore a smile on his face, there seemed something almost cruelly insincere about it. Slim of face and spindly of body in such a manner that his limbs looked like they would have been more at home on an arachnid than a man, there was something about the eyes that made them look like everything he met with was being weighed up against the gold he could get from it, people especially. Any good man of business or profitable one at least capable of playing the ‘market’ that was his buyer, they needed to have a sharp enough mind to pay where they needed and only what they needed, and reap the benefits of their shrewdness. This one certainly seeming the type who knew how collect a rich harvest, his almost skeletal build reminded one of a certain spirit who would look very apt carrying sickle, that was for sure.

One sensing that that he could have made a peerless undertaker given the fact that it seemed as if he could size you for box and grave with a single short stare, perhaps his talents wasted as a mere merchant and if it could be turned to a nobler use that appraising gaze might have put to better use as a judge in the afterlife. Sending souls to oblivion without a single ounce of mercy and maybe on a good day even letting the odd one or two slip into paradise, he was like a grim but grinning guardian of everything that a person wanted but also one that knew just how steep a price salvation might fetch as well. And this was the obstacle that out little lady would face before coming away with her task completed.

“E-Excuse me?” Breaking through the business of the stand with a slight squeezing forcefulness, with one hand gripping the wad of bills that she had been presented by Mr Milano rather firmly to prevent what she assumed would be pickpockets relieving her of the cash, Zoey raised a slightly stammered tone to try and catch the attention of the merchant in the hopes of finding what she wanted. Certainly feeling a little bit on edge right now and wishing that she had her mother or older sister with her in order to offer a little reassurance, though she was a capable and confident girl in many regards this new and crowded experience left her a little anxious, especially when one considered the fact that she was also trying to do a good job on her first job.

“Ah, one moment…”

This perhaps reflected in the way that she carried herself, there was a pleading look in the golden gaze of the girl as she looked toward the appraising eyes of the seller, one that he would too easily pick up upon along with the other obvious signs of her inexperience. Not conducting herself with her usual level of poise that she might have shown when delving into caves and crags in search of mysterious creatures or showing off her magic, Miss Luciano pulled her hands together with money in hand and held them in front of her, glancing from side to side nervously as she waited on the attention of the man and doing rather a good act of looking like a helpless young woman. Perhaps, had she more the inclination of figure she faced then this would be rather a convincing display to coerce a person with, but unfortunately given her youth and inexperience it was actually quite genuine…

“Now, yes yes! What is it that I can do for you?”

The attention that was sought by Miss Luciano finally coming her way once the man behind the counter had finished with whomever he was dealing with before her, in all honesty the blonde found herself a little surprised by his countenance once it was turned her way. Slimy and spidery with a moustache that looked like a pair of hooks curling upwards, the teen had not expected such a friendly and enthusiastic tone from the man given the degree of creepiness she saw in his appearance, though found the betrayal of her expectation to be somewhat reassuring.

“Um… You see… I’m here to buy some fabric?” Burdened by the warnings of her mother and the woes that she had entered the bazaar with, this had made Zoey anticipate a far less pleasant encounter with someone she sought to do business with, and while she still felt somewhat anxious the nerves of the girl were soothed a little at the friendliness that she was shown. A simple girl who tended to take things at face value for the most part, the Blonde Baskan tended to treat others in as open and honest a fashion as she could manage and expected and hoped for the same from them.

“I’ve been looking all day and had almost given up hope of finding what I wanted before finding you?” Naïve and idealistic in her manner, while she certainly held little love for crooks and conmen and would lash out against them, Miss Luciano’s bright and breezy nature meant that she had a little trouble spotting them really. Perhaps the worst kind of person to send into a den of inequity like this, though she had her guard raised by the perception of the place, it was an easy one to peel away really. Any skilled malefactor likely capable of exploiting her inherent good nature, it seemed she was an easy target for a skilled and smooth minded merchant, and unfortunately for her that was what she would be up against….

“Oh well then yes, you’ve come to the right place, girl!
Marakesh has many fabrics! The finest in the land!
I’m sure that we will have everything you desire!”

Like any good wolf who sought to take advantage of the herd this one all too easily slipping into the fleece of those peaceful little sheep, after pausing for a second, the merchant spoke loudly and in a friendly fashion that seemed to oppose his keen, almost predacious appearance. The young woman in front of him almost immediately picking up on the slight oddness in which he turned his phrases around to her, it gave an exotic flair to everything that the silk seller said, loaning a sense of mystery and adventure to his words that the girl couldn’t place for the life of her.

That accent…? More than one odd emphasis seeming to come up as he spoke to her in a kind of Fiorian that seemed like a great many kinds of voices that the girl had heard coming together, having emigrated from the nation of Bosco and then adapted to Baska the girl was more than familiar with dialects and unusual enunciations, especially when one considered she’d spent such a chunk of her life behind the counter of a store run by her mother. However, despite that experience, Zoey couldn’t figure out where the phraseology of this fellow seemed to come from.

“Y-Yeah, I can see that it’s just… I need… Just a moment…” A little bit distracted by this fact but deciding to go with the flow, especially when the man seemed to be so friendly, after shaking her head and trying to refocus her mind upon the task at hand the girl decided to get straight down to business. Time being money as the phrase would go, this Marakesh seemed to be a nice man but she didn’t want to waste his time more than she had to and as such wished to cut to the chase as best she could, but found herself unable to recall the names of what she wanted without a little bit of assistance…

“Yeah… So, what I want is… Satsu silk, Mankan style Taffeta and um… Ragyo Velvet?” Humming softly as she plucked a little aid from the shoulder bag that she was carrying with her which itself was on loan from the ‘Milano Collection’, after sifting through it she pulled out what was for all intents and purposes her ‘shopping list’ for the day. The tailor for whom she performed this task thoughtful enough to write down the names of the wares that he wanted in order to make it a little easier for her, being somewhat outside her proverbial wheelhouse Miss Luciano was glad that she had this little prop and the effortlessly elegant script of her employer to fall back upon, allowing her to read through the list of ‘ingredients’ she had been given and hoping rather highly that the man she spoke to would know what these things were. Honestly, while she enjoyed pretty clothes, the blonde girl wouldn’t really know her silk from satin when presented before her unless it had been spelled out beforehand.

“Ooooh… I see a pretty girl has some fine tastes?
These are high quality, hard to get materials?”

Thankfully the merchant seeming to be rather familiar with the items that she or more accurately Fernando desired, after pausing for a moment to tweak one of the hook like points on his moustache, a slow smile spread across the face of Marakesh and he nodded with a clear sense of comprehension. Certainly seeming to be far more familiar with what Zoey sought than the girl herself was, and also far more willing to use flattery right now as well, the description he gave for the items certainly seemed to suit both the demands that her client had and the difficulty with which she had so far encountered in acquiring them. Now all that remained was to see if he could help her with what she needed….

“Ah well, I’m uh… Just trying to pick them up for someone?” A girl as young, bubbly and let’s face it naïve as Miss Luciano certainly something of a sucker for flattery, all it had taken was a little compliment from the spindly merchant and all too quickly the Baskan Beauty found her cheeks glowing with warmth and colour, prompting her to show a little bit of bashfulness as she lifted her hand behind her head and toyed with her hair back their as a sign of her modesty in that regard. Certainly a pretty girl who was starting to develop into a lovely looking young woman, it was perhaps because she had the comparison of her gorgeous and graceful older sister to compare herself to that the golden eyed girl had a hint of inferiority about her looks, giving her sense of humility and a real enjoyment when it was her rather than Cecilia who received praise in this regard.

“So do have any of them, perhaps?” A brave and bold young woman when she had the opportunity but showing a side to herself that was a little girl as she grew a little shyer, with a bit of blush still staining her cheeks Zoey shook her head and tried to focus on the job in front of her. Not here to show off any good looks that she may or may not possess, the shopkeepers daughter let out a sigh as she sought to get to the heart of the matter, keen to move past the topic at hand despite how much she was flattered by it and discover whether or not they were both wasting their time here. The heart of our heroine sinking for a moment as she was given a playful, momentary mislead by the merchant, it meant that when the man revealed that he did indeed have what she was looking for Miss Luciano was filled with more excitement than ever.
“Y-You do?!” That sinking feeling giving way to a sudden surge of enthusiasm that quite literally wished to carry her upwards, the sense of relief that she felt at finally having found the items she had been scouring the town for all day made the bubbly beauty want to bounce up and down, but luckily she managed to restrain herself in this setting.

“That’s… Thank you so much.” Finding that her fists clenched by her side and a broad grin had spread over her face all the same, Zoey settled for doing a little on the spot dancing to celebrate the victory that she had found, swaying from side to side and bobbing her shoulders with joy before showing a little more decorum. Bowing forwards a little way out of respect and appreciation for the man in front of her, while she had stepped into this bazaar fearing the worst, it seemed that the golden eyed girl had found just what she was looking for and more within this place and that simple fact made the smile she wore somewhat irrepressible really.

“There is no need for thanks, child.
I am happy to serve loveliness like yourself~”

I’m not too sure?” Feeling as if she could not recall Fernando ever really giving her a quantity alongside the specific materials he required, after glancing at the list that she carried to check if it said anything about such things on there and then looking at the high level of currently with which she had been provided, the young woman shook her head and found that she was forced to make a simple guess.

“A ream of each? I think…” Unsure of how much one needed when making clothing but these carpet-like rolls of fabric that were collected upon the table of the merchant feeling like they would be plenty enough to fill a few orders in her eyes, the golden girl made the best estimate that she could and went with that, hoping that her employer wasn’t expecting to be kitting out a whole guild or something in the next few days and might have a chance to grab more if he really needed it. Hell, if he did, he could always send her again when she got back? Now that she knew where she could get what she needed, it would be easy for her to slip back here for any excess, of needed.

“Right, right… Now let me just…”

The man in front of her seeming to be satisfied with the amount that she ordered from him which in a way felt reassuring, as he ducked down to retrieve what she presumed was what she had asked for, Zoey felt glad that he hadn’t gaped at her demand. Really not having much confidence in her request and it really capable of going either way in regards to sufficiency, the fact that this fellow had shown no surprise in what the young woman had asked for was a little reassuring, as if ordering in this quantity was nothing out of the ordinary.

“Whew… My back… I must be getting old!”

Marakesh finally popping back up with a trio of reams in his arms like she had asked for, though Miss Luciano had felt a little curiosity as to what the fabrics that Fernando has sent her for before, as they were presented before her, she couldn’t help but feel rather enthralled by them.

They’re… So beautiful~ Gaping a little bit as she found the loveliest rolls of fabric that she had ever seen in her life laid out in front of her, while she had thought that the reels of material that had been presented on the table already looked good, they really paled in comparison to her order. One of them seeming to shine like it was a mirror, Zoey had to lean forward and touch the soft and pliant surface to make sure it wasn’t simply some glass cylinder that had been laid out before her, while another had a matt surface but the kind of feel that seemed to embrace and welcome you like the fur of a cat or rabbit.

“A-Ahnnnnn…” The final offering perhaps the most sublime, though it seemed to not have the same shine of the first but certainly no shortage of elegant appeal, as the youngster touched it she almost had to stifle a mewl at the softness she found, colour flooding her cheeks as she found a smooth and soft surface far silkier than anything that she had felt in her life and also making her oh so jealous toward anyone who got to wear it….

“So… umm, how much will it be?” Feeling practically like a thief for the enjoyment that she ‘stole’ from simply sampling the wares of the man named Marakesh before she had even bought them, once she had calmed herself down and cooled the heat that she felt in her cheeks for creating such a scene, Zoey realized that there was one outstanding issue in their transaction. Up to this point so excited about simply managing to secure the items she had spent so long today searching for, it was with a slight sense of alarm that the young Baskan buyer realized that they had not discussed the most important aspect of the sale; the price.

“Oh not much for these rolls as fine as this… Just a million jewels.”

A million? That’s… Pretty expensive, but if they’re this rare… It seeming however that the cost of such things was strangely something that the man before her seemed to treat rather coolly and casually really, though the words he chose were relaxed they did not set the youngster particularly at ease. Miss Luciano left blinking at the number that he revealed, though after a second or two she could see the sense in the figure that he asked for given the struggle it had been to find them and no doubt the costs involved in acquiring such unusual but beautiful items, she couldn’t help but feel shocked all the same.

“Oh, I-I see, well then…” These rolls of cloth feeling ridiculously expensive, so much so that their value outweighed the entirety of her wardrobe and probably the rest of the possessions that Zoey had back home, it was no small degree of reluctance that the girl began to look through the wad of bills she was carrying, picking out the cash she needed to pay for it. Luckily Fernando seeming to expect that she might have to pay through the nose to acquire what he wanted and providing a sum that seemed ‘more than enough’ money because of that, even so it was somewhat sobering to pluck notes with such a high value in her mind from the bills she carried, but things were about to become a whole lot more astounding in a moment and certainly not in a good way…

“Yes, you are lucky you came to Marakesh really, many shady merchants who visit would ask for far more than one million per roll, I can tell you?”

Perhaps the greedy gaze of the merchant finally managing to pick up just how much cash she was carrying or the man really wanting to have the defence of the damsel thoroughly overwhelmed before he really sprang his trap, in the space of a moment he clarified a price that already felt rather astounding and in the process tripled it, all without ever dropping the friendly veneer that he was wearing. After all, he seemed a firm believer in catching more flies with honey than mustard, and no doubt felt that dropping his nice act would scare away the prey that he sought.

“O-One Million… Per Roll?” It certainly a risky gambit really, perhaps a more cynical mind might have questioned the sudden increase in cost that seemed to have been sprung upon them, but fortunately for the fiend of finance he was not dealing with that and it was pretty obvious that he knew it really. Miss Luciano left blinking in disbelief as she suddenly found her expensive deal becoming a whole different kind of unreasonable, for a second all that she could do was stare at Marakesh in disbelief at the price she was being asked for, even her potent levels of naiveté seeming to ebb enough that she couldn’t quite accept what had occurred. However, this was a shrewd businessman, and he was happy to talk his way into the deal that he demanded.

“Why yes, what with the problems in Desiertio making such havoc for traders from eastern lands, and the long winter making shipping lanes so very difficult, most would likely force their prices up to several millions per ream. But Marakesh dislikes such wicked practice, and for you pretty girl, I am happy to sell at a loss…”

Always the champion of the people or the pretty ones at the very least, or that how he would have it appear, while the villainous vendor was finally starting to show his true colours, he made sure they were hard to see beneath the flattery and supposed generosity in the deal he offered to Zoey. Certainly never for a moment wanting it to sound like he was ripping her off and having plenty of reasons he could fall back on to explain why his costs seemed to be so exorbitant, Marakesh seemed too practised in the art of spouting lies and the girl before him was all too eager to eat them up as well…

He’s even giving them to me at a loss… Wow. Maybe he’s a good guy after all? The fair femme finding herself truly bewildered by the price that she was being charged by this point but at the same time seemingly powerless to resist it, she had no idea that she was being made a fool of and as she looked at the money she was carrying was almost ready to surrender it. Desperate to complete her first job successfully and the trials of her day making her feel as if she had no choice, with someone who had managed to worm their way into her good graces telling her that this was the best and only deal she was going to get, she hesitantly counted out her wedge of cash and was at least relieved to see she had just about enough money to cover it.

“Welll, I guess that I’ll have to…” Disappointed that she would be parting with all the cash that she had been given by Fernando because she had hoped to get back to him with a nice bargain, Zoey couldn’t help but feel like she was letting him and herself down by surrendering such a sum for the items that he needed, but at the same time what else could she do? The client who had sent her on this little mission desperate for supplies and the teen even more desperate to fulfil the demand, while a part of her was probably telling her to walk away, she knew that she couldn’t. Stuck between a rock and a hard place and seeing no way out of this situation without getting some kind of ‘rub’, at least if she managed to get what the fashionista wanted then she would have done right by him then he would be happy, right? He’d have what he wanted…

Hopelessness. It was the ultimate tool for a crook to use, really. That feeling of having no choice, that one had to do this or that and hope that things would work out could be a powerful weapon. An armament of perception, to take the desperation of another person and turn it to your advantage was a shrewd strategy, but also rather a cruel one too. It wasn’t true, of course. People had a lot more choices than they often realized, they just had a hard time seeing them.

Zoey Luciano could have simply turned her head and walked away, accepting failure over such a ridiculous price, but she didn’t. The merchant himself of course had a choice as well. He could have acted like a decent human being instead of a greedy so and so who was only interested in maximizing his margins, but he didn’t. Even the people around the stall could have chosen a different option, really. So many just standing there and watching a young woman get robbed by someone who carried no obvious malice or weapon, they seemed happy to let it happen, but that was perhaps the culture of this place.

People got ripped off here so often that the vast majority of folk where pretty much desensitized to such an event, most of them simply did not care that this cute girl was getting played for a sucker. Most, but not everyone. One person present had a choice to let this happen and decided against it, and well, the story would have been a whole lot sadder and far less interesting had she not appeared.

“My my my myyyyyy… Just what kind of mischief do I find myself coming across?”

A crisp and ice cool voice cutting through the air as Zoey lifted a hesitant hand toward the merchant that was laden with all of her cash, though the words that were chosen were soft and feminine, for some reason they carried a sense of command that seemed to freeze everything in place. The man behind the counter baying for cash up to that point but practically flinching the moment someone saw fit to interrupt the sale, perhaps some part of him knew he had been caught out in what he was doing by the simple words and interest he was shown, as all too quickly the fake smile he wore disappeared. As for the woman who saw fit to interrupt, the motivation of her intervention remained shrouded, though certainly her appearance could not have been more timely. Or, in the opinion of the young Baskan, more beautiful.

Who…? Wow… She’s… Gorgeous! An aroma that felt like bottled bliss following the beauty as she moved, as Miss Luciano looked up to find a tall woman standing next to her, she found she could not tell even for a moment how old she was. The figure of the femme generous and curvy and her face mysterious and mature, she had the looks of a woman whilst her skin looked soft and new like that of a girl, confusing the senses and in the case of the teen, even more than that. Redness appearing in her cheeks as she felt something stirring within her that up to this point she had only felt for the odd boy here and there, the pulse of the youngster quickened as she took in that perfect visage, drinking in the features of the woman with a thirst she couldn’t quite seem to quench….

She reminds me of Cecilia, somehow? Hair with all the freedom and flow of water seeming to cascade down from her crown, the lavender locks of the lady were worn loose and with a wavy sense of messiness that looked almost intentional for the glamour that it imparted, one side of her face visible whilst those coiling tresses obscured her eye and much of the rest of the other. This almost feeling like it was a shame really when one looked at the perfectly slender lines that made up her face, the woman had a pointed jawline and a nose that turned upward ever so slightly and gracefully, while the lone eye that was visible on the violet vixen was slim like that of a foxes, and contained an iris that was brighter and more dazzling than any amethyst, glittering with light despite the coolness of the gaze that the gorgeous goddess possessed.

Am I staring too much? A simple sense of style and effortless grace exuded by this stranger that seemed to remind Zoey of her sister, while her cheeks were growing rosy simple from staring at her, she found that it was impossible not to let her own golden gaze examine such abundant beauty. The curves that the woman possessed highlighted so perfectly by her loose choice of dress, the teen couldn’t help but swallow as she felt her throat dry up as she examined a sinfully deep neckline and a cleft in her impressively sized chest that seemed practically bottomless, making the girl feel a little bit weak at the knees to behold and very envious even with her own generous proportions.

I just… I can’t take my eyes off her! That large bust only the start of that perfect proportional combination that would make anyone’s pulse race, even in a loose and flowing gown one could tell that the waist of the woman was impossibly slim and yet flared back out to provide a full set of hips to make a sublime hourglass shape that one could not stop staring at, especially if they were a teen just on the verge of discovering their sexuality. And honestly thing only got better from there, really…

“Goodness, at that kind of price I’d say this is less a prank and more a crime.
Trying to get this cute girl to part with so much for these scraps?
I’ve half a mind to have a word with a friend of mine in the Rune Knights…”

Left gazing so adoringly at this stranger that she had no idea how much time had passed since she started drooling, it was only when the hand of this fair and fine fox lifted up to let her take a long draw on a rather elegant and eastern looking pipe that her spell was broken, at least somewhat. Zoey still reluctant to take her eyes away from this enchantress but at the very least the stupor she was under lifting enough that she could hear those crisp words so very clearly, after being befuddled by the beauty of the woman it seemed that now the Baskan would be bewildered by her words as well, blinking in surprise as the stranger called Marakesh out on some perceived crime, and then blushing as she was called ‘cute’ by this glorious goddess right after.

She… thinks it’s a rip off?! The bashfulness of the youngster certainly leaving her a little slow on the uptake but Miss Luciano not an idiot even if she was an idealist, as the words of the intervening woman sank in, it was not the only thing in this particular scene that declined in elevation. Figuratively, at least.
But… He seemed like a good guy, who was helping me out? He can’t have… Can he? A knot forming in the brow of the teen as she tried to make sense of the assertion and that naïve side within her that was so very strong seeming to try and stick up for the spidery swine who tried to swindle her, perhaps it was because she didn’t wish to believe that she was being deceived or that this man was as duplicitous as this dishy dame was painting him, but the golden girl couldn’t quite believe it. Sure there might have been some bad guys in the bazaar sometimes, her mama had warned her about it, but this one seemed so nice, didn’t he?
