Looks like we got some luck with the weather… Feeling the sun on her face and surf around her with no shortage of satisfaction, Sofia Serena couldn’t help but enjoy the warmth and the wetness that abounded around her, and reflected that it seemed like it had been far too long since she had set out to sea recently. The wicked touch of winter something that had made sailing risky and the beach somewhat unbearable, now that spring had melted away that icy edge of the waters the blue beauty felt far more peace and happiness with her surroundings, which was reflected in both her attitude and her ensemble as well.

These Southern Seas remind me of home a lot… Glad to not be feeling like she was forced to sport some thick coat and woolly garments to stave off that bitter bite of the cold months, instead the girl was dressed more casually and perhaps a little scandalously for the attitudes of some, but to her outfit felt like it was essential really. Not in a dress but rather a lively and almost sporty looking two piece combination of a crop top and shorts, the garb of the girl was built for wetness and probably even a little reserved compared to the naughty numbers she could boast in her choice of beachwear, which highlighted her coffee coloured skin and the slender but shapely physique she carried perfectly.

“You know, taking me out on a nice day like this, just the two of us… It could be a date?” The clothing of the cobalt coquette as always designed for maximum impact and certainly the sort of thing that she could well expect to get her ebony haired empress pulse racing and eyes wandering, as she turned to her companion and made a remark that was flooded with her typical cheekiness Sofia felt a little bit disappointed that her dishy dark diva was not with her right now, but still did not let that fact stifle her flair one little bit at all. After all what sort of Blue Pegasus ‘star’ would she be if she couldn’t flex her flirtation a little, no matter where she was or who she was with?

“Should I be reminding you that I’m a married woman now, hm~?” Basically embarking on what could be considered something of a ‘charm offensive’ in order to help her guild and the gorgeous goddess who ran it, the mischievous mermaid was on her best and bawdiest behaviour as she looked toward the figure that sat with her and batted her lashes, wondering if the life of a wife had diminished her allure at all in the interim but honestly kind of doubted that idea right from the get go. After all what sort of woman would the ‘queen’ of the White Empress be if she let a little contentment ruin her ability to turn every head she met?

“Heh, well I’m a married man too, so let’s hope that our wives aren’t the jealous types, hm?
Or we might both be in a lot of trouble…”

Unfortunately for the estimation of the enchantress it seeming that the figure at her side was someone who could take her wicked words in his stride, while it flattered her ego to note the fact that she had seen the owner of Hargeon’s premier place to grab fine cuisine looking her up and down a couple of times with an eye that looked to admire her, it seemed that her cheekiness was something that he was used to and could deal with well enough. That understandable really, Mr Da Costa was a figure of weighty repute in the region and someone who could likely trade brilliance and barbs alike in his role as the host and occasional chef in the Sardina Restaurant, and that was really why Sofia was out her with him on the ocean. He could prove a good friend to have in town, and not just for when one wanted to spring a few dinner date surprised on their lover either.

“Oh now that is a worry, I mean as a woman myself I can well imagine the fury that a wronged wife could bring down, if she wanted to?” At the very least glad that the man had shown enough diplomacy and grace to meet up with her, and even more so given his choice of venue given her love of the sea, Miss Serena was happy to use this chance to chat and reassure him that her guild had the best intentions for the town when they had decided to take the area under their banner, and maybe more than that as well. They were on the hunt right now, after all…

“Lucky for us we seem to have a nice harvest here, should make for a decent excuse for being out here?”

The man who ran the great southern restaurant far more easy going than Sofia had expected him to be, for some reason given the success of his business and his bearing in town the sapphire siren had anticipated her meeting being with someone was a bit stuffier and more serious, and instead was surprised to discover him to be down to earth and apparently enjoying the chance to relax just as much as she was. Pleasantly though.

“Yeah, we’re not doing too bad, are we?” Perhaps a little jaded after her experience on the beach with the protesters, having had to best a rowdy bunch of would be ‘rebels’ in a war of words, while Miss Serena had proved victorious in that fashion it was nice to know that she could play to her strengths and even enjoy herself as she went around this business of shoring up the town for future endeavours. The type who hated to enforce her own desires on others, even if she was acting on behalf of the beloved she left behind back on land the blue beauty was glad to have the chance to simply meet someone who felt like a likeminded spirit to her, and reminded her of certain souls of her past as well.

“I’m honestly impressed?
I hadn’t expected you to be this good of a fisherman?”

That perhaps why Sofia was so happy to indulge the man in his desire to set out to sea, because of the memory of an impactful figure of her past who had also seemed to show such a strong love of the open water, or maybe even two, it felt like despite their difference in age and occupation she had a lot in common with Mr Da Costa; more than she had ever expected. Both of them seeming rather relaxed about being out on the water and simply enjoying their new locale, and increasingly each other’s company, it meant that as she found her skill being praised the mirthful mermaid took it to heart. She liked this man, and was glad to know he saw her in a positive light…

“Heheheheh, well I grew up on an island, and…” The fact that the foreign fox found this figure so accepting of her certainly helping the girl to appreciate his presence and also open up to him as well, as Miss Serena found her skill on the sea being complimented she could only grin and giggle at such words, and offer up her own humble explanation for the blessings that she had received in this area. Still perhaps a little bit guarded about her past because of the woeful implications of the whole truth falling into the wrong hands but for the most part finding it that bit easier to speak about herself after having opened herself fully to the ebony empress that waited for her back home, the blue beauty eagerly explained the fact that she had been on and in the sea nearly as long as she could run, and through this long history had picked up no shortage of skills when confronting the challenge that was open water.

“My uncle was a sailor, so I got used to taking trips out to the sea from a young age?” This why Sofia was so assured when she found herself on a boat or even submerged, unlike so many the young woman that most might have called a mermaid or something of the sort for her fondness toward and fascination with all things liquid felt just as comfortable in situations like this as she did on solid ground, and perhaps more so even? Really it was quite the toss up where she’d rather spend the majority of her time, and even the sky not terribly off-putting either, this adventurous aquatic enthusiast guessed that there was one big reason that she longed for land so much and it was quite obvious really; company.

“Me and him, and my mother too well she was well enough…” The lady known as ‘Lorelai’ certainly loving the sea but enjoying people even more than that, it was nice to take in the water but at times could be quite the lonely thing as well, which was certainly not helped all that much by the more common aversion of folk to indulge something that she loved. However, it was lucky that people of opposing inclination had popped up in her life once in a while, wasn’t it?

“We’d set out to sea to fish and just enjoy the sights and the surf together, for as long as I can remember?” That the biggest reason why she headed back to the terra that is firmer, perhaps in some way Miss Serena had always hoped that her adventures would lead her to find more people to share the sea with, and it seemed she had been successful in that endeavour. Alisa the type of girl who seemed to love the water almost as much as she did, that was probably one in a long list of reasons they worked so well together, among another million reasons apart from that of course.

“Ohhhh, that sounds wonderful~
Say, whereabouts are you from, Sofia?”

All the talk of her homeland and possibly the fondness that the foreign femme showed toward her memories seeming to leave Mr Da Costa a little bit enchanted and even more curious, after he gave a smile and nod at the small tale he had been told by Sofia the man was asking her questions, and they were ones that seemed to instantly create a sense of tension within the girl. This not her intention and also something that she doubted that the restaurateur had planned either, whilst it was a place she loved and in her heart dearly missed as well the sapphire siren couldn’t help but feel a sense of discomfort as the issue was broached, one that had been seated deeply within her in recent times for her own protection.

“Well it’s a little place off the coast of Stella…” On this occasion the island girl deciding to roll the dice a little bit and place a little faith in the fellow that she strolled the oceans with today, even though she didn’t know him all that well in truth Miss Serena decided to gamble as she confirmed the location of the nation that had birthed her, and eased the instinctive sense of defence she felt at such a query.
“It’s called Valerica?” In many ways wanting to move past her fear and embrace her new identity as the wife of the wonderful woman known as the white empress, the mocha marvel wanted to grow a little and stop living in the shadow of the fear that had been cast over her for so long. Certainly the wrong person finding out about her home a bad thing but this man seeming honest and good, she opted to place her faith in him, and hoped that he would return the favour when they needed support for the guild?

That the reason she was here after all, even if Sofia was rather enjoying her chance to chat with Mr Da Costa and relax with the serene sea around her, ultimately this experience was about bonding and building a little trust between a guild of mages and a prominent businessman who wanted assurance that he was right to place his faith in Blue Pegasus for the future of both his endeavours and the town that he lived in. It natural really, especially given what had happened before with the forces of the crown seeming to forsake the people to shore up around the king and the prosperity at the centre at the nation, turbulent times had bred plenty of trouble and while this mermaid and the mistress she wanted to support desired to bring peace and security she could well understand why people might be hesitant. After all, this little moment had revealed her issues of insecurity, and that was pretty much the enduring human condition, wasn’t it?

“Valerica…?”

All of her worries seeming to be a moot point however when it seemed that this restaurateur was completely unfamiliar with the nation she had described, despite her relief that he would not readily make the association between her and that member of the monarchy that was currently missing, at the same time it almost felt a little bit disappointing that he did not know it.

“Heheheh, it’s not too big, but it’s home~” In a way almost hoping that someone who favoured the sea as she did might at least have a casual familiarity with the nation that had birthed her, Miss Serena gave a playful chuckle and a humble description to brush the issue away casually, but in her heart she couldn’t help but wish things had gone differently now that she had taken that chance. It seeming like so very long since the sapphire siren had met someone she could talk properly with about her home that this mere fact only made her feel more homesick, the vision from Valerica could only hope that this would change sooner rather than later, and also hold out a secret desire to return there one day as well with her wonderful wife on her arm. That sounded like perfection really…

“Well, at least it seems to stand our ‘quest’ in good fortune if one of us is a decent angler at least…
Maybe we’ll land our prey after all?”

Ultimately the woes and disappointment of the dusky skinned dish something that was personal to her and her partner for this little expedition proving to maintain his upbeat nature, once again Sofia found herself being complimented by a soul who for a moment seemed to at the very least comprehend her dismay, and act accordingly to avert it. Nodding as he moved on from his ignorance and diverted their discussion to the matter at hand in a nice little form of distraction that seemed to provoke a smile from Sofia, Mr Da Costa ran a hand back through his slightly greying hair as he contemplated the mission at hand and the benefit that the blue beauty might offer to it, which was relieving in its own way given how their conversation had turned previously.

“Ah, yes, the ‘Scarlet Swordfish’~?” For the most part enjoying the simple chance to take in the sea in such a relaxed manner but the task that had presented to the two also intriguing in its own way, perhaps it was the part of Miss Serena’s heart that had been so proud to land a nice juicy fish to show off to her uncle and mother sparking back to life or something else, but she had actually quite enjoyed the idea of going out to the sea to hunt some elusive and special prize even without considering the fortunate implications that the event might have for her guild. Not usually the sort of soul who tended to approve all that much of needless violence and absolute the sort of girl who would have ordinarily objected to a hunt simply for a sense of prestige in the prey that they caught, perhaps because she knew that this was for the purpose of creating some form of wonder dish in the restaurant the siren of the surf found herself a little more accepting of the event that waited for them if they were lucky, and was also curious about the creature itself as well. After all, this was one she had never heard of…

“I’m not too familiar with that one, though I suppose that’s what makes it quite the delicacy, huh?” An amateur marine biologist or at the very least quite the fan of all forms of fish and other life that lurked under the surface of the water, and also rather fond of the creatures of myth as well which was evidenced by the winged steed she had back in the stables of her guild, Sofia knew a whole lot about what was lurking beneath the waves and yet she did not know this ‘Scarlet Swordfish’ at all. Almost thinking like she was chasing down a wild goose or perhaps in this circumstance the so called ‘red herring’ when she first set out on the mission, it had only been the assurance of Mr Da Costa that had started to convince her that she was not on some fool’s errand, and surely the man would not have come along himself if that was the case? Even for a joke or a jape that seemed a bit much.

“Yes, yes, even the best in our town only manage to bring home a few each year… One or two?”

The restaurateur seeming wholly convinced of the fact that they might just find what they were looking for if they were very, very lucky, despite this sense of confidence the foreign femme couldn’t help but feel a sense of surprise when he explained the numbers they were dealing with, or perhaps more accurately the odds they were up against if they wanted to come home with the fine prize they sought. For certain this down to earth man seeming to be happy with the state of affairs and the low percentage of success but Miss Serena not entirely feeling the same, she couldn’t help but experience a sense of shock as she realized just how rare these beings was and understood just why she hadn’t seen one before, but even as she did that there was also one other thing that bothered her about this as well now that she knew…

“Oh so it’s pretty rare?” Most assuredly astounded to discover that their ‘prize’ was something that was very unusual to grace the docks let alone the dinner plates of the Sardinia Restaurant, while Miss Serena had set out on this mission expecting it to be a little less than easy she had never expected it to be quite this much of a challenge, which was intimidating, but not everything that bothered her right now. So much more concerned with the impact of what might happen should they prove successful, it really did not feel like a good idea to go out and hunt something that seemed to grace the hands of humanity in such a scare fashion, but instead seemed very reckless.

I wonder if we should really be hunting down something like that?” Assuming immediately from the numbers that she was dealing with here that the Scarlet Swordfish had dwindled into near obscurity, whether that was by impact of fishing or some other source seemed irrelevant in this matter, since the ultimate truth was in that case that they shouldn’t be depriving the seas of another rare specimen. However, as Sofia made this guess she was really only showing her ignorance of the situation despite her good intentions, as Mr Da Costa was to reveal to her quickly.

“Well, yes and no I suppose?
It’s uncommon to see, but hard for most to land?
It’s really strong and fast, so even if people get it on the line most can’t keep it?”

The restaurateur far more of an expert of this particular species than Miss Serena could ever claim to be, after the fact it did seem strange that such a down to earth and sea-loving fellow had been consumed with the capture of a creature that was threatened with extinction, and the man was quick to clear up the confusion as to why the act had become such an uncommon occurrence.

Ah, so this is the test of it, is it?” Apparently this a case of more than simple numerology and equally if not more so to do with the skill of the person sent out to snatch this sublime sea creature from its habitat, it was clearly the kind of challenge that felt like it would make or break the fisherman that undertook it, and quickly helped Sofia understand why this was what her client demanded of them. The test more one of perseverance and simple strength, with that in mind it was starting to make a whole lot of sense why this would assure Mr Da Costa that he was placing the town in safe hands. Crafty old cook, eh?

The casual conversation enough to distract Miss Serena and peel her attention away from the task at hand, it was only after her little chat that either party involved in it seemed to return their interest to the rods that were hanging off the edge of their boat, and as they did so one fact became apparent quickly.
“The float… It’s gone?” Both of them still in place but one having a key difference compared to the others that perhaps they might have spotted sooner had they been paying that bit more attention, the blue eyes of the beauty quickly noted the fact that one of the bulbous globes that monitored their rods had seemingly vanished without a trace, and that wasn’t all.

“Looks like we got another one then!”

The reel to which it was attacked seeming to twirl around as well with its solitary handle like the arm of a clock that had suddenly grown rather impatient with the passage of time, the two of them gaped at what they saw for a moment or two before rushing forward to try to secure the situation and hopefully land the next little number in their haul, but that proved more difficult than either would imagine.

It’s… Stiff! Mr Da Costa seizing the rod first while Sofia herself lunged for the spinning spool of wire to try and deny whatever had grabbed it the chance to venture any further from them, even for a girl who was used to landing fish like she was this proved a tricky task, with the twirling twine seeming rather resolute in its intention to get away from them. Both of the duo seeming to have to put far more grease into their elbows than they had expected, the exchanged glances of confusion and excitement at the prospect of what they had managed to bait onto their hooks, wondering if they just might have gotten very, very lucky today…

“Whatever’s on the other end… It’s definitely strong as hell!” Something certainly having a strong desire to escape them, as the wire grew taught the sapphire siren groaned as she found her task seeming to struggle against her, with no sign at all of letting up. Whatever was on the other end resolute in its desire not to be dragged onto the boat by either of them, Miss Serena couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement springing up in her heart at the potency of what they had hooked up and the potential and promise that it held, but did not dare speak of that fact. It felt like it would jinx their situation.

“We’ll have to do this together, I think!”

That strength that she felt; the ability to hold out against the hands of not one but two grown people at once seeming to hold a definite implication that it was the speedy scarlet swimmer that they sought, some form of superstition denied Sofia the right to speak out about this fact even if she was able, and instead she simply grunted and groaned before nodding at the advice of her senior.

“Yeah, doesn’t seem like something either of us could land without help.” Approving of Mr Da Costa’s suggestion quickly because of how much she could feel the beast below straining against them and how she doubted their line would last long in this struggle, as she did so the mocha marvel moved to better afford their combination and slipped her slender but strong shape in front of the restaurateur to square their stance and help them work better together. It certainly a somewhat of an intimate position to be in with an older man looking over her shoulder, in this instance the sapphire siren was too consumed by her task to really comment on this fact, and instead showed an unusual sense of innocence in her position, for her at least…

“Wait for it to show the first weakness, then drag it in with everything you’ve got!” On this occasion the mind of the mocha minx seeming to channel an influence from her uncle that wasn’t based in bawdy humour and frisky flirtation but rather experience and expertise from his time at the sea, Miss Serena spoke up as she and her boat-bound companion squeezed the fishing pole tightly and fought against the presence that pulled upon it, not giving an inch but also holding an ounce of their strength back until the right moment. Patience as much of a key to landing prey from the water as it was to finding them or at least that the case in what the sapphire siren had been taught, they had to wait until the exact right moment to show what they were made of, and for some reason as she did so the Valerican vixen couldn’t help but think of her wife.

A little longer… Come on you monster! Their situation just like when a skilled warrior would wait to find that one small hole in an enemy’s guard and then launch a coup de grace through that tiny but perfect window once they did so, the concept seemed very much in line with the little wisdoms of eastern warriors that Sofia’s wife liked to quote when they trained together, and that certainly did not hurt her determination one bit either. Almost feeling like this was a chance to show off for her wonderful woman, the water witch couldn’t help but wonder just how impressed her dark delight might be by her performance in this regard when she returned with a fine prize in hand and a story in mind to tell her how she had landed it. That almost enough to make the blue beauty want to bring home every scarlet swordfish that the sea could bear for her, while maybe it made her seem a little childish to some the foreign fox really relished the praise she received from the woman she loved, and was eager to ‘eat’ even more when she got home…

“Now!” Those seconds of patience seeming to pay dividends when all of a sudden the resistance seemed to dip by just a fraction for a moment or two, with the line that connected to them was by this stage groaning almost as loud as the duo of anglers the girl knew that it was now or never, and called out to her companion to launch their counterattack with the hope that it would a decisive one. Drawing on the rod and pulling it toward her with every bit of strength that she could muster in order to overwhelm their ocean opposition with the aid of the element known as surprise, first Sofia moved and then so did Mr Da Costa as they fought against their fishy foe with the hope of capturing it, still without knowing what they were up against but that a fact that would soon change.

“Grrrnnnnnhhhh!!!!!” Both the blue beauty and the restaurateur groaning as they strained against the rod and found that the fish at the other end of it put up plenty of fight even whilst it was being surprised by their sudden show of force, Miss Serena gritted her teeth and called upon every ounce of power she possessed in order to overwhelm it, with the training she had done the past two or so years with Alisa really paying dividends in that moment. No longer a weak mage who was wholly reliant on her magic but rather a potent and powerful huntress who could challenge the average warrior without even needing to rely upon a single spell, she had modelled herself on the wonderful woman she called a wife and in moments like this it seemed like it had been the best idea she ever had. That especially true when something scarlet shot out of the water and into the air in front of her, the sapphire siren smiled as she spied her prize, before setting about making sure it didn’t get away now that she had it in her sights.

There you are! A sword-like nose and a smooth scarlet set of scales clear in the blue gaze of the girl as the beast they had fought against broke free of the water in a wild fashion, that sapphire stare grew narrower as the sudden lack of resistance made Sofia stumble backward a little way, and did not err from her target for a second as she did so either. Luckily for the foreign fox the fella behind her a little steadier and sturdier than her and able to stop her falling over by his simple presence, this allowed the lady known as Lorelai to focus wholly on the prey that was presented before her, and she did not waste this focus at all.

You’re mine! For certain their environment a boon to their aquatic adversary but Miss Serena and the magic she possessed not particularly hampered by it either, with their prize in the air the princess took the shortest of breaths and then sought to use their watery surrounding for her own gain, and thrust her mitt through the space in front of her because of it. Almost trying to literally snatch the beast from the blue with her bare hand, as she did so the young mage used her mana to mould a wave in its image, though much larger, and snatched the strong and speedy swordfish with it immediately.

Gotcha! Perhaps it surprising for the scarlet sea creature to be seized by the substance in which it usually seemed to sail through with ease, while it might have tried to swim away through this marine medium if given the chance this was something that the spellcasting siren would not allow, and employed a little bit more of her magic to ensure this. Capable of making the liquid under her command transpose into a state that resembled a solid, suddenly it would be the fish that found itself struggling against a force it couldn’t hope to overcome as the water around it became rigid and rubbery, and prevented all escape as it provided Sofia with a victory that she had hardly expected to find, but was glad for all the same…
