Pissed off about the fake crime scene that Haru was tricked into creating for the crazy but crafty private detective, the healer spent the rest of the day at the Rune Knight gym, taking out his frustration on the equipment there. After the couple of sessions with Fenrir, he had come to appreciate the benefits of working out and put in almost all his free time doing just that. The effects started to show quite a bit, especially when he got out of his loose Haori and put his body on display.

When he was about to finish his bench presses and move on to some triceps dips, he heard a recently familiar voice call out. It was the same Rune Knight who had stopped him and Akira that morning when they were carrying the blood bag and blunt weapons. “What is it now?” Haru asked, slightly annoyed. Hearing himself, he was rather shocked as to how much his tone has changed over the year. He had become quite sceptical and thorny. “Umm… Sorry to bother. But I saw that private detective sitting at the bar rather spooked. After what happened this morning-” before he could finish the sentence, however, Haru gave him a sharp look and he stopped.

He knew what he had done and how harsh he was. There was no need to remind him of that. He was working his ass off at the gym to forget about it. “I thought… maybe, if you talked to him…” the Knight began again. “Alright! Thanks,” Haru said, after sighing softly. Picking himself up, he went to take a quick shower before leaving to meet the detective. He neither wanted to go alone, nor did he want to ask Akira. Besides, what was he going to say to the detective? Quite a few things to decide in a very short shower.

In stark contrast to her hardworking partner, Akira sat propped against a wall, her posture rather slumped and her knees folded upwards. As she idly rolled a rubber ball between her fingers the Shimada contemplated her options. Their journey from the campsite had been exhausting in itself, in addition to that, they'd spent the early half of the day running around to create a fake scene as a publicity stunt for the detective. Tsuru had really taken that quite... poorly. His prickly demeanour was coaxing even Aki's attention now, however she decided not to let it concern her too much. While she'd taken to staying out of his way, she guardedly kept an eye out as he decided to drown his disappointment in.... sweat apparently.

She tossed the ball against the wall in front of her, in a lazy attempt to work on her reflexes. But as Tsuru got rid of the piece of garment that cloaked his form, she found her gaze glued in awe. For the most part, it seemed he hadn't noticed her lingering eyes and she was grateful for that. Averting her gaze, she brushed it off as nothing except surprise at the way his figure had changed, actively choosing to ignore the heat that rose to her cheeks.  

Even when they'd run into that Kee guy at the gym, Tsuru had been struggling... And now... To prevent any accidental revelations of any kind, she abruptly decided to leave him to it and get some shut eye at the bunks. She didn't rest much, yet just enough to know she wouldn't sleep easy at night. Resigned to her nocturnal fate, she decided to take a nightly stroll around the town. It wasn't too late, perhaps she'd make it back in time to at least improve her sleep-cycle. She noticed a freshly showered Tsuru stalk off outside as well. Narrowing her eyes, she curiously followed, without bothering to catch up and keeping a wary distance.

While he couldn’t come up with anything honest to say to the detective that would probably make either party feel better, he did decide not to ask Akira to accompany him for this. After all, she did say it was a fool’s errand from the start and he was the one who coerced her into following him. It was only fair that he dealt with the consequences himself and not burden her with that too. So, there he was—unaware that he was being followed by her anyway—making his way towards the detective’s favourite bar.

Haru spotted Miller way sooner than he expected. The man was pacing near the banks of Orchidia River, looking rather pale. Seriously? I didn’t even touch him. At this point, the healer wondered if this even had anything to do with what happened in the morning. He wished he could just assume this wasn’t his fault and just walk away, but he knew he could never forgive himself if he just ran scared at the last moment. So, gulping down and taking a deep breath, he walked up to the detective and cleared his throat to indicate his presence.

Miller jumped at the noise, as though he was struck by lightning. Haru was extremely confused at this point and he decided to just apologize to get away. “Listen… I’m sorry-” he began, but Miller began rambling all of a sudden about some blue ball. “Blue… what?” Haru asked, but regretted it almost immediately as this only made him ramble more. “I should have asked Akira to come with me,” he said out loud, resigning to his fateful day.

She spotted the Knight they'd run into earlier, strolling peacefully as though he'd just washed his hands off something unpleasant. Narrowing her eyes she placed her hand on his shoulder as she crossed him, swiftly asking if he had anything to do with Tsuru's evening excursion. His response was as quick as her question, clearly he didn't want to linger around her. She sighed, fairly certain that considering Dex went on with his operations has planned, Tsuru had had nothing to do with the alleged breakdown the Knight just told her about. Maybe something went wrong with his little gig? she speculated, trotting along to keep the measured pace with her leggy partner.

He spotted by the river and she only clearly heard him wish for her presence. The words made her stomach lurch for some reason... in a ticklish sort of way, stifling the feeling she crept up behind the duo. 'I'm here.' she said, a little disdainfully, and suddenly feeling a little awkward about her rather sneaky mannerisms. Her words caused another jumpy reaction from the detective. 'What's got his knickers in a twist?' she whispered, strictly for the healer's ears this time. She caught the word blue almost as her eye noticed the flickering, swirling and spinning blue orb. 'Sad... Very sad... Its why I did what I did.' he said, guiltily eyeing Tsuru. Aki rolled her eyes, the rambling sounded more genuine than him blaming his conniving plan on it. She wasn't in the mood to pass judgement, so she ignored the two of them and found herself drawn to the mystifying orb.

Despite the warnings over the years, to not touch things that don't belong to her, her fingers instinctively rose to make contact with what seemed to be dense, blue-tainted mist. Immediately, a hard force knocked her a considerable distance and her mind found itself buried in moments that she had long since forgotten... She wasn't even sure if they were real, she saw the face of her mother and then another man, then two boys, before reality dissolved back into existence. 'What the hell?' she groaned, rubbing her elbows and noticing they'd been scraped.

It wasn’t just Miller who jumped in surprise at Akira’s voice. “Oh! Hey… How come- Never mind,” Haru stammered at the sudden realization of his partner’s presence. He was curious as to why she followed him and how she managed to do such a good job at staying hidden, but saved those questions for later. Right then, he needed help dealing with Miller and he was glad she was there. It would seem the man was deeply disturbed by a blue orb, which Haru noticed only after Akira began walking towards it. The loco detective claimed all his antics were due to this orb and went on to ramble about how it could even be the culprit behind a major crime.

Shaking his head, Haru diverted his attention to his partner who seemed to be way too close to the blue orb. It wasn’t until he looked at her directly did he realize she wasn’t just close to it, she was in contact with it. His eyes widened in shock when he realized Akira was put in some kind of trance by the ball. Before he could move to pull her away, however, the orb expelled a mini shock wave that knocked all three of them back. While both Haru and Aki managed to escape the blast with nothing but minor bruises, Miller wasn’t so lucky. The wannabe detective was knocked out cold.

“Ah crap!”

Haru immediately attempted healing the man, but it wasn’t enough. “We have to take him to the hospital,” he announced, before casting his trusty Nimbus spell. Gently, he lifted Miller and offered to help Akira up too before climbing it himself. Only after all three are on board did Haru realize that he had no clue where the hospital was. Seeing no other option, he manoeuvred the cloud towards a crowded street where they could ask for directions. A flying cloud with three people on it was quite the attraction and people wanted to know details. Someone named Dacol was among the crowd and immediately offered assistance. Haru followed his directions to the hospital and admitted Miller for better care.

'Really?' she asked as she pulled herself off the ground and dusted her clothes. 'Is it that bad if I say it is better this way? At least we don't have to deal with him anymore.' she muttered, barely guilty for thinking this way. A cursory glance at his physical disposition was enough to arrive at the conclusion that his wounds weren't going to steal is mortality. The damage maybe psychological, so maybe it could be something that stole away at the dregs of morality that the detective may still possess. She could only hope that the hospital decided to take him enough for long enough, so the other Knights and the gullible citizens didn't have to deal with his antics, was such a wish really that bad? He'd be taken care of and he'd not be a burden or responsibility for anyone else.

Regardless, she chose not to expand on her ideas or offer any explanations for her doubt soaked wishes. She rubbed her temple before accepting Tsuru's help and stepping onto the puffy cloud. She yawned and decided to sit down beside the floppy Dex as Tsuru steered it around. Once he was admitted a nurse explained that the orb had indeed caused a little bit of alteration in his mental status, but that he'd make a full recovery soon... Aki had to work hard at keeping a straight face, to not allow a frown to etch her disappointment. She cleared her throat and they were paid off for their duty. All in all, she could use some rest. She remained silent on their way back to the quarters, wondering about the faces she saw in that mirage.
